  • Everything overcooked

Foie Gras was overcooked to the point of being hard and chewy. Did not send it back, but let waitress know it was overcooked. Ordered rib steak medium, came out badly charred which gave the whole steak a burned, bitter taste. Hash browns were overcooked to the point of being dark brown/black. Also had the same burned/bitter taste as the steak. Creamed spinach was fine. Did not tell waitress food preparation was poor a second time because we already told her once and it apparently did no good as main courses were burned as well. Manager did not once come to our table to ask about our meal, although we saw him talking to several tables directly next to ours. For the prices we paid, we expected much, much better.

we were disappointed...we were hoping for a great experience but have had better food elsewhere. it was quite expensive and not tasty enough (or wow enough) for what we paid. We were there on a Thursday night and only the bar was busy, remnants of happy hour maybe. Some tables were filled. Did love the decor and the way everything was set up but we were very disappointed with the food.

  • Don't get the porterhouse

This was my second time at S Prime, I got the 28 day aged ribeye on my first visit and it was great, but for some reason they were out of ribeyes this time so we tried the porterhouse for two. It was really fatty and chewy, and half of it ended up in our napkins before we were done. I'm baffled how an "ultra-premium steakhouse" as they call themselves could be out of ribeyes at 7PM on a Friday night, and I'm not sure I'll be back for a 3rd time. Their prices are similar to the top steakhouses in Manhattan, but the quality just isn't the same.

I have been coming to Prime since it opened mainly because I do believe the steak is the best in the city BUT when I was there in June there were several problems with the service. I since returned and the service has gothen a bit better but now the steal that I eat all the time did not seem to have that great taste. This place has so much potential but they just seem to be inconsistent. I have not given up on them yet.

This was my second time here in a few weeks . Last time everything was superb.(see previous review) This time not so good. Fresh Oysters at the bar still great and appetizers and desserts still great but entries another story. My girlfriend had the Bronzino cooked in salt. She thought the fish was salty and not up to the best. I had the 35 day aged NY Strip. It certainly didn't taste like dry aged prime meat. A far cry from the superb Porterhouse I had a few weeks ago. Additionally, The service was very slow. At one point no one eating near us had any food on their table. I will give them another chance to regain form and if nothing else the $1 happy hour oysters are a steal.

S Prime has great food and great service. My friend and I noticed that they changed their Signature Steak to another 28 day aged piece of steak. It was still very delicious, however the piece we received seemed a little on the fatty side. We mentioned something to our server, and the manager, wanting to ensure we had a great experience, gave us dessert wine and 2 desserts on the house. It was so generous, unnecessary and over the top. This is just another reason why I love S Prime. When we didn't really complain but just brought it to their attention they made sure that we were satisfied. Not only were we satisfied, but so appreciative. Thanks S Prime & Ike!

Tried S-Prime on a Groupon and it was a very pleasant surprise. Porterhouse for 2 was perfectly cooked and absolute top quality. In fact every thing we had from the house made mozzarella to the apple tart was fabulous. Put this together with the half price happy hour drinks and $1 oysters at the bar and this place is a real winner. We will be going back soon. Great service as well.

I've been to many top steakhouses all over, specifically the city. This steakhouse tries to take on that same atmosphere but just doesn't live up to it. The service was average and the food was good, but not like any top steakhouse I've been to. The bread was cold, they were out of the wine we wanted, and the music was horrendous (loud, new pop music). I have no problem paying $50 for a steak but I didn't feel that the food at this restaurant warranted that pricing. Also, the $19 crab cake was average and 8 pieces of asparagus for $10 is unacceptable. I would dine here again but not at these prices.

The restuarent was only a quarter full but service was still not good. Waiter always seem to be busy. Wines by the glass selection was not good. S Prme steak (60 day dry age Ribeye had an unusual flavor. Perhaps it's a butter they put on it before it leaves the kitchen. Then finally, the manager came over and automaticallly poured my half bottle cabernet into my friends glass in which she was drinking Malbec. He offered no apoloigies or a replacment. I would not go back to this place.

I rarely write negative reviews, but this was an extremely poor experience. I have a regular group that dines once a month at a "high end" steakhouse (Lugers, Sparks, BLT, Uncle Jack's etc). We decided to try out S-Prime on a Wednesday night. We arrived and the bar scene was great. Drinks were interesting and reasonably priced for a steakhouse. When the last member of our party arrived, we were seated immediately. That is the last good service we had all night. We were constantly waiting for drinks. Our steaks were overdone (a cardinal sin in a steakhouse), and when we commented (not complained), the manager told us that the steak was fine and it was the lighting in the place. Maybe it was an off night, but we won't be back for food.

We found S Prime because it was close to the hotel we were staying at (The Paper Factory) in Queens for my birthday weekend and we were looking to have a nice, upscale dinner to celebrate. This restaurant is literally a hidden gem in a very industrialized area of Queens. Upscale service, incredible food, kind staff only begin to describe this place. My husband took a risk and decided to order the 24oz. 28-day dry-aged rib eye ($52) and I ordered the crispy organic Scottish salmon (I'm a pescetarian, so no land animals for me). My husband said that was the best steak he had ever eaten; it was so good, he was laughing with every bite he ate. The head chef came over to personally check in with us, too! Oh, and the salmon was amazing, also :)

Service really does matter! The seamless service really did increase my dinner experience on August 19th, as I went to S Prime to celebrate my Anniversary with my husband. The steak was good, so was my creamed spinach, mashed potatoes (garlic), and dessert. The bread would've been better if it was warm. I also want to add that I go out to eat a lot and many times my great meal is interrupted by sucky service. The complete opposite was true for S Prime. Wilson was amazing! So attentive, but not over-bearing ensuring that my husband and I were given the appropriate attention, but still have privacy as we sat together in a cozy booth.

I had not heard about this place until I purchased a Groupon. I live a few stops away at 30th Avenue, a major avenue with a ton of businesses. This place is tucked away on a small street near Kaufman Astoria studios, and it actually feels a bit like an escape. The actual decor of the restaurant was lovely: LARGE (perfect for groups), well-kept, ample seating. It was a bit too dark for my tastes, though. The food... OMG THE FOOD WAS AWESOME. We started out with the tartare trio (beef, scallop, tuna). All of the tartares were awesome but the tuna was the best. I ordered the Cajun steak for my entree with a baked potato on the side. It was all so incredibly flavorful. This is now one of my favorite places, and well worth the cost.

Absolutely one of the best meals I've had in years. Steak was perfect; seafood special was outstanding! I mean... totally outstanding! Everyone is friendly and very competent. Drinks at the bar set the right tone which carried through the rest of the night. They didn't rush us and the evening was very enjoyable. Of course being a premium steakhouse, you pay premium prices; however, their happy hour (which we caught at the bar before dinner) is surprisingly economical and we will come back for bar food (which looked delicious) and happy hour drinks to try something different the next time.

Most people go to a steakhouse for a "fancy" meal and this place is fine for that, but Id like to address the hardcore aged steak fans. Ive been to a lot of the steakhouses in NYC and I always look for an aged rib steak. If this is your fav steak, you should try the 60-day aged steak at SPrime, it may or may not become your new favorite, but it is definitely different enough that it is worth trying. I liked it a lot.

I have been eating at Prime once a month for the past year. Love the food and restaurant. BUT I have to be honest. The service was poor and when I tasted my bottle of wine I was shocked that it was like vinegar. I did not say anything until after 5 minutes because I never returned a bottle of wine once it was open. When I told the waiter he brought the host over and I explained what happened he sayes to me well you had your chance to tell the waiter and since you said it was fine I have to charge you for the bottle. I was shocked and told him I am so disappointed. It ruined our meal. We even ordered another bottle for more then the first bottle of wine.

Our family went there for Fathers Day dinner - we ordered the White wine Mussel -which was not washed thoroughly, it contained sand and rocks in them - do not order them unless you want sand and ocean taste in your mouth. Nice to have found this gem by chance. Very late decision to have a bday dinner for a friend and it was 11:00pm. on a Saturday night. S Prime had dinner reservations until 11:45pm. It made me skeptical if we would receive the day's "remaining food".... But it was delighted that EVERYTHING was extremely fresh and well prepared; even my cocktail had freshly pureed raspberries. I loved the ambiance of the venue and was impressed with the wine list. 2 thumbs up for S Prime.
