RyeGreat food, small tables!!We had dinner at Rye for the first time. The food was very good. The bad part was that the tables are too small for all of the plates and other items that were on the table. It felt claustrophobic sitting at the table and had no room to spread out. The menus are cumbersome because they are on really big boards. There was not place to our them on the table after ordering drinks.
Overall a good experience but maybe more for a lunch date.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMLove it!Awesome! The shrimp and grits were fantastic! Cool interior with attentive, but laid back service. Will definitely go back soon.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMStill Outstanding! As usual, the food was excellent. Our server was particularly attentive and fun! I always schedule at least one dinner here when in town!6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMYou go to Rye for the foodYou go to Rye for the food but if you can sit out on the patio, you get a bonus; unlike most, it doesnt primarily overlook a parking lot. Very pleasant surrounding for lunch. Downside: so pleasant you may want to while away the afternoon there having a second glass of wine.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time at RyeMy wife and friends had Sunday brunch at Rye to celebrate our 22nd anniversary. Our group had an excellent experience. The ambiance, service and food were all outstanding.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMAnniversary DinnerBased upon a recommendation from a friend, we selected the Rye for our 27th Anniversary dinner. 5 Star Food and Service. Borderline noisy for a romantic dinner. We will return to try more of the interesting choices on the menu. Better for a group than dinner for two. Well done!6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMSouthern style food for foodiesWhile the menu is full of southern style favorites, they are prepared in a way that lets you enjoy the freshness of the ingredients (i.e. not smothered in thick heavy sauces). The fried chicken was so flavorful, juicy, and crispy without being greasy. It comes with fresh pickles and a side of gravy, but I chose to dip mine in the house made BBQ sauce, which was delicious. I also had the green beans as a side and the were perfectly prepared and not to overdone with unnecessary sauces - it is always nice when you can actually taste the beans! The service was just as good as the food. I sat out on the patio, which overlooks a field, the restaurants gardens, and pond. If not for the hum of 435, it would have been quite serene.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat ServiceGreat informative friendly server. Nice place for a family birthday party.6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMLOVED IT!The food was amazing! the service was great! Will definitely return & Will definitely recommend.6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat PlaceI have been to Rye about 5 times now, 2 of which were for brunch. I have had the fried chicken...delicious! The Pork Chop is to die for and brunch is amazing Eggs Benedict!! Great place to sit outdoors and the interior of the restaurant is beautiful.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMThe menu has something for everyoneEveryone at our party ordered a different meal, they were all unique dishes prepared perfectly! The brisket had so much flavor! It was tender and the homemade pick lies were a great compliment.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMMy only comment has to doMy only comment has to do with the time of my reservation. When I made it I wanted a time at 6:30, 6:45 or 7:00 but the closest available reservation time was 5:45. However, there were quite a number of empty tables during the entire time we were dining and when we were ready to leave. Could there have been that many last minute cancellations? I doubt it. What gives?6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic! We had a wonderful meal; everyone in our party was quite pleased! We shared the butcher board appetizer, which was great for the 4 of us. The salads and soup were tasty. I ordered the shrimp and grits, which was rich and flavorful. My husband ordered the strip, which was well-seasoned and cooked. Our cocktails and wine were all fantastic. I really cannot say enough about how much we enjoyed our whole experience. We will definitely return!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat they do with Trout....First of all, I've been a fan of the Garrelts dedication and passion for their craft since the inception of Bluestem. That being said, they didn't disappoint. Jeremy was brilliant in his wine suggestions, but thats a given. I had the filet and my dining companion had the trout, per the recommendation of our server. When he explained how it tasted like Dover Sole, thats all we needed.
They've got a really good thing going here and they're so humble about it, you just want to give them a hug. Which I did.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMRye is a gift to the neighborhood! The shrimp and grits are outstanding. Can't go wrong with the Salmon, no matter the occasion.
The deserts selection is always a treat. The Banana Pie and the Carrot Cake were great hits at my luncheon.
The staff and service are simply wonderful.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMFOOD + Service --First visit, ate outside on the patio and food was excellent. Service was below casual dining expectations. Will give it another try and hope for the best.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMDown Home Country PlaceKind of an upscale, down home country place. They had knife and fork BBQ and fried chicken. Everything is farm-to-table and made in house, including the ice cream.
VERY expensive.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMWe'll be backGreat lunch! We had the signature
chiicken and it was eveything I hoped
it would be. The Mousse desert was
amazing. The decor - very interesting.
We ate in the bar area, which was fun
but I would prefer the main dining area
for dinners. The patio area was a
surprise, but a must for drinks, looking
out over the pond with the duckies.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMLunchtime HitThe lunch offerings were flavorful and overall well received at the table (it was all of our first time @ Rye). We enjoyed the fried chicken (but it wasn't as awesome as everyone had made it sound), the burnt ends (but they were very fatty which made them less appealing), the pork tenderloin (not like any other - really well done) and the chicken salad (also enjoyed). Desserts are supposedly where it is at, but they were out of the strawberry rhubarb pie - the one we really wanted. We settled for the banana cream which was very good ... almost like a Heath bar - yummy & the lemon meringue - tart & sweet! Prices were very nice at lunch ($9-12) but dinner menu looks to be much better & much more pricy. We'll return for dinner next time.5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat night outExcellent service, stellar food and a rustic yet refined setting equals an unforgettable anniversary dinner! Our server was very attentive, the app and salads were timely and delicious. Rye does Midwestern fare extremely well, my wife said the burger was one of the best she has eaten. The fried chicken is by far the best I have eaten! Well done people.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food (fried chicken andThe food (fried chicken and rabbit) was very good. The only negative was the server didn't order our sides correctly. She quickly fixed the problem.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMExellent experience! We went to Rye to celebrate my wife's birthday. We found the restaurant very inviting. The setting was comfortable, open, quiet, and friendly.
We were greeted and seated quickly. Our server took care of us quickly. She was very nice and knowledgeable of the restaurant and the menus. We enjoyed a variety of items on the menu. All were great. The Rye Butcher Block was an outstanding appetizer. We also had to the deviled eggs. I also had to try the pea soup. All were very good. For dinner I had chicken, my wife had the Cool Pop burger, and our daughter had the salmon. All were prepared perfectly, the quality and value were excellent.
After dinner, our server suggested dessert. All of the desserts were great.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMOur party of 4 was happyWe started with an assortment of appetizers - whipped goat cheese, deviled eggs and butcher block board. All outstanding. One of our group order the split pea soup. Huge bowl or soup, but disappointing. Entrees for our group were fried chicken, trout and a 10 oz filet along with sides of mac & cheese and potatoes. The entrees and sides were all delicious. Wine list is nice - good variety. We finished it off sharing a piece of sugar creame pie which was also very good. Service was very good. Our second visit. We will be back.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMRye oh RyeOur experience was fantastic here. This is a great example of fine Heartland dining. We started with the domestic cheese plate, which was expertly paired. Our only gripe was the amount of cheese (3 selections) for the price ($14). We then had the fried chicken, smoked rabbit, mac and cheese, and cottage fries. All dishes were nicely done. The desserts - sugar cream pie and banana cream - were very tasty too. All in all, it was a wonderful experience that we're looking forward to trying again!5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat service and good foodMy wife and I enjoyed the lunch menu and were pleasantly surprised. The pulled pork plate was tasty and chicken salad was well received. Service was excellent and the price was right.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMRye is one of the best restaurantsRye is one of the best restaurants in KC! The only complaint I have is it's far from downtown - where I live and hard to get out-of-town guests to drive to Mission Farms. But once you're there, it's worth it! The food, the patio, the service are all top notch.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome place! Food was different,Awesome place! Food was different, interesting and delicious. Plan on going back!5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMRye - Mission Farms - Leawood KSThis was a special occasion for us our 24th anniversary - the menu was a la carte making the venue quite expensive. The food was well prepared. The gravey for the chicken (was not traditional white) was different ... the goat cheese was very good.
The lemon pie was very good and an outstanding crust. But not the traditional comp for an aniversary etc...
All in all a wonderful evening and the patio was available at walk in....
Reservations before 2030 would be nice.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMComfort FoodThe fried chicken (I got the 3pc offering) was the best fried chicken I have ever had. Pair it with the garlic mashed potatoes and a side of asparagus for a little taste of heaven.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMGirls get togetherEverything was top notch from food to drinks to service! They even accommodated my 4 year old. Can't wait to come back and try the new dishes and brunch. Thank you!5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved the eggs benedictEggs benedict were lovely - perfectly poached eggs, light creamy hollandaise sauce, very fresh greens, and a tasty helping of steak fries. The Bloody Mary had an unconventional taste (garlic?), but had a nice garnish of olive, sweet gerkin and cocktail onion.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was exceptional. we wereFood was exceptional. we were diassapointed in Ashley our server, we witnessed 3 tables come in after us that recieved beeter service, and were in and out before we got our food, had to remind her more than once to check on our order5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMSpecial diningThis is a great place to book for special occasions.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMservice was slow but good.service was slow but good. You need to get the drink orders out quicker ( if you want to max your revenue).5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMTerrific!A truly super meal! I had the buttered shrimp with grits, a bit concerned that it might be too rich to eat all of it. It was perfect and I enjoyed every bite. I was also able to taste the trout and fried chicken from my friends' plates and found them to be fabulous as well. Our server was gave wonderful descriptions about many of the entrees which we found most helpful in making our choices. Looking forward to returning soon!5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMThe service was wonderfulThe service was wonderful and the food was exceptional. We ate on the patio which has a very comfortable feel. this was our first visit to Rye and we will return.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMSuper brunch. From start to finish, service was outstanding. Friendly staff. Brunch portion sizes were perfect. I am already craving more apple fritters, blueberry muffins and of course pie. The burnt end hash I ordered was delicious & topped with 2 perfectly cooked sunny side up eggs. Yum. Cheers to the entire staff at Rye for such a great experience. Can't wait to return.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMWorth the visitGreat food, albeit smaller portions. Incredible desserts! Definately will go back.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMLove itThe food was great. Wine list impressive. Service was a little inattentive. Good energy and vibe. One of our new favorites. The goat cheese and honey appetizer is incredible.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of a kindAfter months of trying to get a reservation, my wife and I were able to get a table at Rye for our 17th Anniversary dinner. It was worth the hype and wait, best experience in KC yet. The wait staff was clearly hand picked and know their menus, gave excellent recommendations and paired the wine perfectly. The wine list is a little short but the options are not common which peaked our interests, and were extremely well priced. The food was out of this world delicious and the ambiance was simply outstanding. The mix of comfort food with a modern flair is brilliant. We will certainly be regulars here, assuming we can get a reservation, well done!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMserviceThis is the 2nd time we have been there and both times our food arrived after barely starting to eat our salad. When this happens we feel a little rushed. But overall the food is great.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMOrder What's HotThis was my second visit to Rye and I was happy but not as impressed as my first experience. This is a place where you have to order the right thing. They have great, crispy fried chicken. The salmon was delicious as was the hot shrimp and grits (pretty salty though). I ordered the flank steak (recommended by my server) and it was so tough I sent it back. I feel like flank steak can be done really well if its cooked right. They apologized repeatedly and did offer to bring me something else but ended up just comping my meal.
It's a great atmosphere ... The food is good but not amazing. If you like southern food you will be pleased.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMA Pleasure for All PalatesThe chef just won a really prestigious award and the food did not disappoint! Went with my grandfather and my mother and everyone was happy all around. I had the excellent hanger steak, my grandfather had fried chicken, and my mom had shrimp and grits. The wine list was really great and I had a wonderful dry Riesling before the meail. We definitely recommend this restaurant and I plan to return in the not too distant future.
It was a little noisy which made conversation a little difficult. But a crowd hopefully indicates that the restaurant will succeed and be around for a long time.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMMenu featured items you don'tMenu featured items you don't always see (e.g. rabbit legs) and there was a separate menu listing side dishes. Not an extensive wine list but very adequate and it contained some wonderful selections again many of which are not often seen. Our waitress was extremely well versed and pleasant and the service was efficient. I'll be back.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMRye - Give it a 2nd ChanceWe had an 8PM reservation for four people - seemed we might have hit them on a slightly off night as all our food we felt were just not quite the way it seemed it should be seasoned. We all agreed because of what many of our friends stated about their expereince - we need to try it again.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMThe best things about RyeThe best things about Rye are that the food is delicious, the service perfectly suited to the feel of the restaurant, and that reservations are accepted. Although it's menu doesn't cater directly to vegetarians, it's easy to create a yummy lunch for one's self and be more than satisfied. There's also excellent fish, so those of us who don't eat pork or red meat are happy as can be. I love that Rye's focus is local and that many of its vendor sources are nearby as well. I think the chefs have beautifully accomplished their goal of basing a modern cuisine on that of their grandmothers.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMVery nice eveningWe had a great evening. The food was terrific and the service was very good. If I had a suggestion it would be carpet, to help dampen the noise level a bit. But we will return, to be sure! And recommend to others.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat chicken! (Best everGreat chicken! (Best ever per my wife who is the real foodie of the pair.) All the food was wonderful and with the focus on seasonal ingredients it all tastes so fresh and vibrant. The worst thing I can say is that it's not a cheap date place, but if your looking for an excellent hardy meal, Rye needs to be in consideration!4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat experienceFood was excellent and service was great as well. Living in the neighborhood, I've seen many restaurants come and go in this space. After re-configuring the space and developing a new fresh concept, Rye should be there for the long haul. Best Fried Chicken I have had in years....4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGood overall...Our food and service were good, although my husband's fried chicken plate contained one breast and one back (which seems a bit strange...). The food was well-prepared and very nicely presented.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
