Rye has become our go-to location
for celebrating special occasions. The ever changing menu and the fresh, locally sourced ingredients are a great baseline for the kitchen, whose true love for the essence of the food shines thru, to build upon. In the rare-air that is the highly competitive and innovative Louisville restaurant scene, Rye is at the top of our list."

You will want to make a
reservation, for Rye, soon, because it is small and so very good. Service was great; friendly, not rushed, timed perfectly. We shared everything, on the 502 Restaurant Week menu, and everything was incredible. The Beet Entree may have been my favorite. I wish I could include a picture, because it was beautiful, as well as delicious. But everything was so good, it is hard to pick a favorite. I can't wait to go back and try as many of their menu items, as I can. The bar was very nice, too, so get there early and have a cocktail, before dinner."

My wife ordered the salmon...which
came out seared to perfection. On the outside. The inside medium rare. It looked like sushi grade. She stopped eating it at that point, less than half eaten. When we flagged the floor manager down, he said ok and took it away. It was the last time we saw him. Nothing was ever brought back out. We had to flag our server down several minutes later. She said, "it was my fault, I should have told you that's how we cook it!" No I'm sorry, no replacement fish! Nothing! She then asked if we wanted dessert. We said no, and got a bill. A full bill for a dish she did not eat due to being undercooked. Like I said we never saw the manager again. I wouldn't recommend. It's too bad. We had heard such good things."

Appetizers: oysters: B-, Cheese
Plate A+++ Main Course: My sweety had the Bone-In Berkshire Pork: little fatty for her tastes, I had the scallops: gritty but cooked perfectly and very creamy texture . Side Dishes: good-great I thought the Scallop dish should have been discounted being priced at $30 but whatever. Total cost of a meal for 2, 1-cocktail, 2 appetizers, 2-main dishes, 3-side dishes was $145. Should have been around a $95 dollar meal. Also the servers were wearing simple street clothes and should have been a little more professional looking at the price of the food and the lack of elegant decorations. I thought it was a tad over priced for the quality of food and experience. Camdon Scott American Idol Semi-Finalist"

We had a great time and the food
was great! It was a little expensive for us to have on a regular basis, but we'll defiantly be back at the bar for a casual drink."
Dined on 2/14/2014
The service was great. The food
looked great on the menu. In reality, however, the food was overwhelmingly bland and couldn't quite come together. Manhattans are good, but on the sweeter than I like side. Overall, I was slightly disappointed after having read all the positive reviews."

My husband and I recently went to
Rye for our anniversary dinner. The food was superb and the service was great as well! We started with the cheese board, which was really fun and delicious. 4 different cheeses, paired with crostini, grapes, homemade chutney, etc. Wonderful! We also both thoroughly enjoyed our entrees--butternut squash agnolotti and thai shrimp and grits. We appreciated their seasonal offerings. The only negative aspect of the evening was that the atmosphere was a bit loud, mostly because the tables are situated so close together. At some points, we had to shout to hear each other. But that would not stop us from going back to Rye in the future!"
Dined on 2/13/2014
The food was great. The menu was
limited, but that's ok. I like not having to flip through pages on a menu. It took quite awhile for our food to arrive. It was about an hour from order to table. They apologized and offered a free dessert. That made up for it. I appreciated that."

Rye has firmly established itself
as one of Louisville's best. It's menu is new every day so everything is a "special" and each dish is treated as one. Our server was knowledgeable on how each item was prepared and made or dining experience sooo enjoyable. We were a party of two but shared each dish we ordered. The ambiance is perfect for about any occasion, be it a romantic dinner or a business gathering. With the kitchen part of the dining room, the decor responds perfectly to its historic setting but does so on contemporary terms. It is just so very cool."

High food and beverage quality,
along with casual, knowledgeable staff. Very creative ingredients, new menu daily. So good I can't complete a sentence."
Dined on 2/9/2014
I had a great meal bisque and fish
were delish. My husband enjoyed oysters but steak was over cooked for him. He likes rare but said flavor good. Wine list was limited for reds but they have great cocktail menu. Service was great except hipster waiter had a duck dynasty beard . I prefer a clean cut server. Overall very pleased and will return."

Spent New Year's Eve here with
another couple and made a reservation for a couple of hours to ring in the new year right. We have been here a couple times before and everything has been great. As time came to ring in the new year, our table was the only one left in the dining room. The collective thought was, " where is everyone?". Other than the echoey atmosphere, food was great, as always."

Made a reservation for 7:45pm on a
Saturday evening but was not seated until around 8:35. The restaurant more than made up for it with drinks, delicious dessert and great food & service in between. Our dining experience was great and turned out to be worth the wait. I would definitely eat here again."
Dined on 2/1/2014
You get it all here...great food,
drinks, and service. The menu is short and sweet. Perfect a few menu items, instead of doing many things adequately. I will be back soon."

My husband I went to Rye for date
night. The atmosphere was energetic, yet elegant and the food was extremely fresh. Our server was outstanding and very knowledgeable about the menu. We will returning to Rye on many more date nights."
Dined on 1/24/2014
Was very impressed with my
experience at Rye on Market. The menu was unique, creative and cutting edge. My guest ordered octopus, which I wouldn't have had the courage to do. It was amazing and something we had fun telling our friends about. Great place for special occasions and impressing that special someone. The wine list was short but that was fine with me. We tried a couple of new vintages and liked them both. The atmosphere was trendy and cozy, but a little on the loud side as a couple of larger groups got pretty jovial. But, overall I would highly recommend Rye."
Dined on 1/17/2014
Ambiance and staff were
great--it's like fine dining for hipsters. Drink menu was fantastic. Good was very good, but not outstanding. Overall it's a great date spot, and I'll def be giving it another chance very soon."

We will drive almost an hour to
eat at Ryes. The menu, the drinks, the waiters, the food, etc. all are great!"
Dined on 1/11/2014
The food and drinks were great.
The service was excellent. The portions were a bit small for some people in our group so next time we will order some extra side dishes. We will go back for sure."
Dined on 1/11/2014
I want to start by saying I am
normally a big fan of Rye. Previous meals have been incredibly but this last Friday night they completely missed the mark. Appetizers were just okay, meals came out cold and the sides (which are usually my favorite) lacked flavor, texture and imagination. Suggestion, bring back the brussel sprouts and REALLY roast the cauliflower. I will give it another chance and am hoping this was just an off night for them"
Dined on 1/10/2014
Our food was wonderful, the
service excellent. We will definitely be back!"
Dined on 1/8/2014
All four of us had excellent
dishes. The steak was cooked perfectly as well as the salmon. Most salads are ordinary but their Red Quinoa salad was delicious."
Dined on 1/3/2014
If you enjoy great cocktails and
an ever changing menu based on the availability of locally grown food, you must try Rye! It is a gem in the NULU district!"
Dined on 12/27/2013
Recently we stopped into rye for a
dinner. The ambience was great. The food was fantastic. The brussels sprouts were to die for!!! Overall, definitely worth a try!"
Dined on 12/22/2013
I went out to Rye with a friend of
mine that likes to try new places. We were so happy we chose Rye! We ordered some appetizers, small plates, and some sides and were pleasantly surprised with how much food we were served. It was a great experience and the food was to die for. We will definitely be going back."
Dined on 12/17/2013
This place is a gem! Not knowing a
ton about bourbon we told the bartenders to just make us drinks and they were deliscious! The open kitchen is fun to watch, but the food was fantastic. Server was knowledgable & friendly, I liked how they got to wear their own clothes instead of a uniform, makes the place feel more down to earth. We will definetly be going back, especially after the patio opens again!"
Dined on 12/14/2013
Delicious dishes with a cornucopia
of explosive flavors...and always mutating, with varied selections that always seem to differ from the previous visit! For some of the best food in the city, this place delivers, but service-oriented patrons beware! The staff seems more concerned with their latest Facebook postings than on delivering a customer-centric experience (think flannel-wearing-twenty-something with an indifferent attitude). Worth the trade-off, in my opinion!"
Dined on 12/8/2013
The food was great. The beer list
is craft in cans, which is fine, but the prices were more than I wanted to pay for what I'd get, so I opted to try one of their signature mixed drinks for a couple dollars more. I forget the name, but it had Bulleit and was garnished with orange peel and candied ginger. Mixed drinks are usually not my thing, but it was good if a little bitter (orange peel I think). The Brussels sprouts were amazing. The salmon dish was cooked perfectly and was a decent portion. Wish I'd had enough room for dessert. With one drink each, an appetizer, a couple shared sides and two entrees, a meal for two came to a little over $100 +tip. A little pricy for me but worth it. Service was exceptional."

If you want a white-tablecloth
experience, this isn't the restaurant for you. But if you want good food, and think it's fine that the servers wear jeans, then try Rye. Hubby had salmon, which was cooked perfectly. I had the duck leg confit. I'm a sucker for a good duck and it's hard to come by. This was yummy and I especially liked the heirloom carrots and baby turnips with it. Dessert was the "Fat Elvis" which the hubby likened to a de-constructed Butterfinger bar. Add some salted caramel powder and macerated bananas, and that's probably accurate. I don't think I'd choose Rye for an occasion where ambiance is important. A great choice for a fine dining/casual atmosphere evening, though."

My wife and I had been wanting to
try Rye for a while. First let me say the food was outstanding. I guess we just aren't the "hipster foodies" we thought we were. First, the menu is limited with fewer than 10 entree's to select from and they are all quite unusual, especially with the listed ingredients. We didn't know exactly what some things were. This can be a good thing if you are into trying new things, but made ordering a little difficult. Second, the prices seemed a bit high, compared to other Louisville restaurants that we have really enjoyed and we think are of comparable "foodie" quality. I thought the cocktail prices were particularly high. I am sure we will try Rye again, after we have tried a few other places first."

First off - Pork belly small plate
- it was fantastic. My wife and I went for dinner on a Saturday night. Place seemed steady but we had reservations so we didn't have to wait for a table. Drink menu was good. Food menu was equally good. It is not an extensive menu filled with a lot of puff and fancy food lingo. The menu hits the basics, it has some small plates, entrees that hit various proteins and some nice vegetable sides. I had salmon and it was delicious. My wife had the beef and thought it equally good. We didn't have room for dessert so we bought beers for the beards. You'll know what it means when you go enjoy your next dinner."

Louisville, a top ten foodie town
(Ville?!) has so many great restaurants it is hard to do them all. Especially when you become enamored with one, as we have with Rye. Always exceptional, even in da 'Ville. Try it....."

Rye keeps the NuLu theme of
locovorism. However, it has the same limitation due to this theme. The menus are short and ever changing. The menus are tied to the vegetables that are in season. At first this may discourage some restaurant goers, but here is where Rye meets the challenge. Rye will make you eat your Brussels sprouts they are full of flavor. They also have an incredible talent of putting together items, which individually may not appear to appease, to create a great experience. At the moment, my favorites are the Sweet Potato Toast, the fresh bread, and the red wine braise meat. The price tag prevents it from becoming a frequent place, but definitely worth going for the experience."
Dined on 11/7/2013
The food was fantastic, but the
service was lacking. We didn't really feel welcome and like our presence was a burden."
Dined on 11/3/2013
Four of us went to dinner here on
Friday night. We were seated right away. Menu was limited and server was quick to advise there were no specials that evening. The restaurant was beautifully decorated with a more minimalist approach. We ordered mussels and oysters on half shell as an app, both of which were wonderful. The salmon was delicious and the Brussel sprouts were the best!"
Dined on 11/2/2013
Great staff, amazing food,
to-die-for dessert. Overall great experience, definitely coming back again."
Dined on 10/30/2013
Dinner was very nice and intimate
but one huge recommendation is to order "Fat Elvis" for dessert. Just amazing!!"
Dined on 10/26/2013
Had the salmon on menu and it was
absolutely cooked perfectly and fresh. Everyone at the table commented on how good their entree was and wish we would have had room for desert, but maybe next time."
Dined on 10/26/2013
Started w/the Santa Anita. A
margarita w/ jalapeño telquila & hellfire bitters. Loved the kick that grew as you drank, but it was not the best choice of drink for my entree. I got the Arctic char and it was amazing! Light and flaky w/ an amazing buttery citrus sauce! The heat in my drink was a little too much for this dish. My friend got the braised beef and it was melt in your mouth delicious! We ended w/ the pressed coffee & two desserts . Fat Elvis was a deconstructed chocolate, banana, peanut butter, salted caramel plate of heaven! And we got the Build me up Buttercup with butterscotch anglaise, shortcake, huckleberry sauce and pecan toffee. The crunchy, buttery toffee really made the dish. Another amazing dinner at Rye! Thanks!"
