  • "Service and ambiance were as good as anyone could possibly expect. My wife and I went there for our anniversary. I had the large porterhouse and it was just ok. It was actually disappointing for the price. I've had much better tasting steaks at a variety of Chicago steak houses. I wouldn't have the steak there again but I absolutely love the place. They paid great attention to detail and the server and entire service team were wonderful. Unfortunately, the main reason we went there was for a great steak. Irrespective of what you order you will enjoy your overall experience."

  • "Not our first visit to one of Ruth's Chris Steak House's so we were expected the same level of service as we've experienced at other locations (San Dieogo was perfection!). Unfortunately our evening was tarnished by very slow service that was mind boggling. It took 20 min. for water served and orders, another 20 for salad/bread to be served, and a 45 min. wait before our main entrees. What could have easily been a wonderful night of dinning turned very frustrating given the level of expectations set forth by Ruth's Chris. I asked repeatedly if there was an issue in the kitchen and although apologetic was given no explanation. To finish the host only provided our last glasses of whine on the house which seemed less than sufficient."

  • "Went there for my wife's birthday with my son and his fiancee. As usual the staff and servers were friendly, prompt and attentive. My wife is gluten free and they had a menu for gluten free and was able to modify a standard entree to be gluten free to accommodate her food concern. The only glitch was my rib eye being slightly overcooked, but they took care of it immediately and prepared another one immediately without any trouble. I really appreciated that. Will definitely return."

  • "Service was outstanding however, both my husband and I had to send back our steaks again! We requested medium and they were rare. The last time we dined at Ruth Chris I had to send my steak back twice and ate alone since my husband had his meal while I was waiting for my steak. This time since we both had to send the steaks back, so we ate together. When spending this much money at a steak house, I expect the steak to be cooked as ordered the first time."

  • "When I made my reservation I specified it was my wife's birthday so I wanted it to be special for her so I called and let them know it was her birthday and thy said they would put happy birthday on her dessert plate and they didn't. It would have been a nice little surprise also when I went to the bathroom I specified to the hostess that they remember the birthday and they said yes! They still forgot. I've been to Ruth Chris many times the one in Barrington and the one in Chicago they have always had great service I was disappointed. I might return"

  • "I would have given Ruth's Chris 5 stars for an Overall rating, except for the fact that we were seated next to a large party and at times, it was hard to hear people at our table. Also, although the service was friendly, it was slow. It took 3 or 4 requests before the bread showed up. However, when the food finally arrived, it was awesome. Our steaks were seasoned and cooked to perfection, and the potato side dishes could not have been tastier. This is still our "go to" restaurant for any special occasion."

They even offered a really affordable fixed menu with a salad, main entree, and dessert. So good! I highly recommend Ruth Chris. I love this place!"

  • "This was our second visit to this restaurant. The experience was very disappointing compared to the wonderful dinner we had on Thanksgiving Day. We both had the prix fixe surf & turf dinner. The lobster tails were good, but my wife's filet was grizzly and inedible. The rest of the meal was nothing special. The service was slow and impersonal. . The restaurant did replace the steak promptly with a very nice one, but the experience is not what you expect from a high-end steak house. Our bill (meals plus deserts) was over $150, without beverages. We will probably not be back again."

  • "This is a place that stands out...Food, service, desserts, salads...each wonderful, but it is pricey. Be prepared. We were there with another couple, did not order a bottle of wine, but we each had one glass of wine, shared one dessert among the four of us, and had four salads and entrees among the four of us. Total with tip was well north of $400. We expected it to be that high, but it still surprising since we did pass on the many $70-150 bottles of wine (very few less expensive). Quality of steaks was great. The garlic shrimp was not impressive-- too soupy. Skip it. Portions are large. Ambiance is classy & quiet--woody and leather. Service is excellent. Do not miss having a dessert- you deserve it."

  • "A group of 7 carnivorous men were looking for a great meal. Ruth's Chris provided. With such a large group, we ordered almost every appetizer and side available and weren't disappointed with a single one. My favorite appetizer was either the spicy lobster or fried calamari. As for sides, I was pleasantly surprised with the brussel sprouts with bacon garnish. For my entree, I usually order the filet but listened to a friend who suggested the cowboy ribeye. I don't like to fight with my meat, so I wouldn't choose it again in the future. Nonetheless, the butter topping on each steak is awesome. Most noteable was the creme brulee dessert, simply some of the best I've ever had."

  • "The food was great, very tasty, a little high on the salt content. While the food did not taste oversalted, the next day I could tell I injested too much sodium. Wait staff were friendly and knowledgable, the bus boy a little green, he burned his fingers picking up a hot dish. Some of the wait staff, not our server were a little loud with customers 2 tables away which was a distraction from our dining, and the time we were there there was a customer who was having difficulties with the way her steak kept coming out, and the fact that there were numerous staff around their table, meant others were not being serviced. We have dined at Ruth's Chris at the Northbrook location which was by far superior to this location."

  • "I'm always a fan of Ruth Chris, but I have to say that I will never go around Valentines day again. First of all I was seated in the banquet area because of the out pouring of reservations. I paid a lot of money and I love the atmosphere in the main dining room and that's where I wanted to sit. The food was good but not like when I go there on a regular Saturday night . I felt like it was more like banquet food. So these are the reasons I am disappointed . But in the past it's always been excellent !"

  • "we were disappointed by Ruth's Chris that night and don't plan on returning. Made the mistake of ordering something other than a steak, in this case the rack of lamb, and found out that they don't know how to cook lamb. Ordered the lamb "medium" and it was raw on the inside. The manager saw that it was raw and had it taken back to the kitchen. As I feared, it came back "well done" and was almost uneatable. I expected a place like Ruth's Chris to offer to comp the entrée since they totally messed it up. But no offer came. We're now looking for a new favorite "special occasion go to" restaurant."

  • "As always the food was excellent. Very accommodating, pleasant and professional staff. I do like the fact they offer you a black napkin in place of the white napkin if you are wearing black. This way no white lint is left on your clothing. They think of everything to please the dining guest. Will be back!"

  • "Everyone's steak at the table was not cooked to what they had ordered. The steaks were undercooked - every single one. Medium well should not have any red in it. Medium shouldn't have it either. Even after sending one of the steaks back it was not cooked to temperature. You would think someone would say is there still something not right when except for one bite the steak was wrapped to go. The waiter had too many tables seated at once so he could not spend the time with his tables. Rest of the food was good. Would not go to this steak place and order a steak - what does that say?"

  • "Everything from the pre-dinner drink at the bar to the last bite of dessert was wonderful. We went for Restaurant Week, which provided a 3-course meal for $44. It would be easy to spend $100 per person on a normal night, which I don't consider out of line with the other Chicago area steakhouses. I would even like to go back to enjoy a few more martinis and the bar menu."

  • "The food was outstanding. And, for the restaurant week pricing it was a great deal. However, it took a tremendously long time between courses. We were one couple and noticed that tables that came in after us were getting their food before. I don't know what the deal was. I didn't mind that the server wasn't hovering over us the whole time, but at times wondered if he forgot about us. Only after the meal was over and we left did my wife tell me that her steak was overdone (she ordered medium and got well/medium well). My food was cooked perfectly and had great flavor. The long delay was between every course too. Not just one."

You can ask that the butter in the preparation is removed, light, or on the side, as my fiance did, but I think it adds a special characteristic to the steak that makes it unique. My filet was cooked perfectly. I couldn't have asked for more."
