Diner Reviews
  • "My Family went here for a special occasion, and it did not let us down one bit. We rarely go downtown to dinner as a family, so this was really special to us. Every single part of the dinner was absolutely perfect. The drinks, the appetizers, the main course, the dessert. Our server was an absolute sweetheart, our water glasses were filled constantly, and the overall theme that everyone was genuinely pleased to have us there. I say go!!! :)"

  • "We had the Portland Dine Out $29 3-course special and considered it quite a bargain. The 6-oz. filets, done medium rare at our server's suggestion, were perfect. The wine at $17 a glass was a little expensive; but was exquisite with the steaks. Can't go wrong here. We'll be back."

  • "The staff went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our celebration dinner, complete with rose petals on the table. The food was all cooked to perfection, especially our steaks. Honestly, no complaints. We had a great night. We can't wait to go back."

  • "The steaks were so good we are still talking about them FIlet Mignon"

  • "First time at Ruth's Chris. I really enjoyed the ambiance. Our servers (Scott I think) was great as we were on a romantic date and he was very non-intrusive. Food was very good."

  • "Until I saw the listing in PDX Dining Month, I had no idea RC had moved so close to the Oregon Symphony's concert hall. Very nice! Craig, our server, was most excellent. My only complaint - and I use that term hesitantly because the meal was incredible - was that the PDM menu listed cheesecake with fresh berries, as the dessert. When Craig brought our dessert, it was a pineapple/coconut bread pudding with dark chocolate. Super tasty, but the I'm very health conscious and almost never treat myself to dessert, so I was anticipating the cheesecake and berries and it was a factor in my decision to dine at RC. I was disappointed in the substitution and that's the reason for only 4 stars. The PDM menu as offered would have been an certain 5."

  • "MY HUSBAND AND I TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THE PORTLAND DINING SPECIAL 3 FOR $29. HE UPGRADED TO THE RIBEYE FOR $10 MORE. MY STEAK WAS EXCELLENT BUT HIS RIBEYE WAS A DISAPPOINTMENT. HE WAS AWARE THAT RIBEYE STEAKS HAVE SOME MARBLING BUT HIS HAD A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF FAT. ACCORDING TO THE POSTING ON THE INTERNET, THE DESSERT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE CHEESECAKE WITH FRESH FRUIT. THIS WAS NOT OFFERED TO US. THE ONLY CHOICE WAS A BREAD PUDDING WHICH WAS NOT TOO IMPRESSIVE. THE RESTAURANT DID NOT LIVE UP TO IT'S REPUTATION."

  • "We arrived a few minutes early for our reservation, and were guided to the bar, Great service and cocktails. We then were escorted to our table upstairs. Although back in the corner, we could see clearly out the big window. Our server was Lauren and was assisted by John. Both were very attentive, but not pushy or loud. Just the right attitude. Laruen was very helpful and knowledgable about the right choice of wine for our dinner. We each had steak and lobster. We enjoyed every bite and were so full that we took our dessert home for later. This is just our second visit, but we will be back."

  • "We arrived early to find the bar very crowded, but we had a seat after waiting a few minutes. Great service and very good drink and ahi tuna plate. Dinner special using the March Portland Dining Month option was excellent with plenty to eat for us. We enjoyed everything about this dining experience."

  • "We had never been to this restaurant before, and decided to try it out because of Portland Dining Month. It's a beautiful restaurant, friendly staff checking in, wonderful busgirl, really good food. And because of all of this we would want to come back. We will however ask to get a different waiter than we had. If a restaurant decides to be part of Portland Dining Month, then get behind it a 100%. Make the experience so wonderful that we want to come back. The waiter made us feel like second class citizens because we ordered from that menu. And made a point of telling us that, that food was not at the same level as their other food. Once it was clear that we were staying with our choice we hardly saw him again, our busgirl made up for it."

  • "Had dinner with five close friends and had a great time. The steak is out of this world. Several people had the creamed spinach and raved about it. One had the chicken and said it was exceptional. An all around great experience."

  • "Food was good, however the service was either not present, or they were in a hurry to rush you out. A waiter rudely interrupted our table and basically dropped our plates on the table. In addition, we found paper shavings in one of our desserts. Not recommend this place to anyone, not for the price."

  • "After enjoying dining experiences at other RCs, we wanted to try out this particular location, but are not inclined to return. The main server seemed uninterested in doing anything but chatting up the next table over about their wine. Perhaps it was because we ordered from the Portland Dining Month menu, but isn't the point of participating in PDM to entice diners to return? The food was excellent, steaks seared to perfection. However, our waiter went from cheery at the next table to annoyed at our table, making us feel burdensome. His visits were infrequent and brusque. Beverage refills never came. His support staff were prompt and pleasant though. The tip we chose to leave was because of the support staff, not the main waiter."

  • "I have eaten in Ruth Chris steakhouses all over the country and have always had very good meals. Unfortunately the Portland version won't be on my go to list again. My steak was of poor quality and the appetizers and potatoes were severely under cooked. If you want Steak in Portland I would recommend you try somewhere else. Very disappointing."

  • "good friends went for a nice Sunday evening out. Wait staff was friendly if a bit slow, steak was overcooked but still tasty. Would be nice to have a more rounded out side/veg selection. Expectations were high due to other Ruth Chris location visits. Won't be rushing to go back."

  • "This was a good deal on dining month, but I wouldn't bother to return. They think a lot of themselves and the servers make sure you know that. Steak was tasty, but mine was over cooked compared to my medium rare order. I'm sure I could have sent back, but I didn't bother. You can certainly get as good or better or a steak elsewhere in Portland for less money and from servers who are less pretencious."

  • "For years, I have heard about this chain and always wanted to go but was put off by the expense. I went with 2 friends and we all had the Portland Dining Month special and each had something different. All 3 meals were definitely at the top of the star list. The steak melted in my mouth and I could almost cut it with a fork. The service was fabulous with the wait staff attentive but not too much over the top as one sometimes finds in these high end restaurants. The wine list was a bit spendy but there was not a bad one on the entire list so you knew you would be satisfied with your choice. We had such a wonderful time and will be back now that we know there are many options to enjoy that are affordable. Definitely recommend to all."

  • "Our dining experience was excellent. Our reserved table was by a window (which I had not requested but greatly appreciated). The bread was warm when served. The wine list had interesting selections across all price ranges. The salads came dressed, but the greens were not over laden with dressing. The steaks were done to perfection as was the creamed spinach that I selected as a side dish. Despite being fairly busy, the noise level allowed for easy conversation without having to raise our voices. The server was attentive without being intrusive."

  • "Preparation of steak was great. Love the use of high heat to seal in the flavor. It is A LOT of butter involved."

  • "It was a great birthday celebration for my husband. His cowboy ribeye was tender and very flavorful. I had two side veggies which were delicious. The only "complaint" was the volume. We had quite a "doggie" bag to take home. Adam was our server and he had to be one of the best we've ever encountered. Very good tip for him."

  • "Thanks to Portland Dining Month, we were able to experience this "fancy" yet not ostentatious restaurant. The meal was fabulous. When my steak arrived slightly overdone, the waiter insisted on taking it back, and the chef sent me a small bowl of his seafood bisque and the poivre (a peppery roux) sauce to go with my steak when it arrived. We ordered an appetizer and I had a nice glass of chardonnay. Dessert was an interesting bread pudding with pineapple and coconut-- tasty, but probably not something I would order again. To top it off, the Grimm crew was setting up to film across the street, which kept us entertained. I was very grateful for the attentive staff. Overall, it was a lovely dinner, one which I enjoyed immensely."

  • "I selected Ruth's Chris Steak House to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday. The hostess acertained through gentle questioning that we had come to celebrate a birthday, as she seated us and gave us the names of our server and his assistant. She returned and adorned our white table cloth with colorful "birthday confetti". We ordered from the Portland Dining Month 3 courses for $29.00 menu and were treated no different than if we had ordered from Ruth's Chris regular menu. Adam was attentive to our every need and our steaks were cooked to exactly to our individual liking. The dessert chef placed a birthday candle in my husband's bread pudding dessert and wrote "Happy Birthday David" in chocolate syrup on his plate. We were treated as royalty."

  • "Ruth's Chris Steak House, Portland offers excellence in every aspect of the dining experience, but at a price, a high price. However, Portland Dining Month offers an opportunity to have a special meal at a reasonable price."

  • "We went here for an anniversary. We had a good time. The restaurant is always noisy. It's not the most romantic setting, but the food is good and the service is good and they were very prompt with our table when our reservation time came."

  • "While we had planned on having a quiet dinner at RCSH, we found that the new location now has a wonderful bar and happy hour. We were able to get dinner seating in the perimeter of the lounge and enjoyed a nice selection of moderately priced items from the bar menu. The vibe was much more "after-dinner executive" than the typically "old-school" dining room. Very enjoyable and a great way to sample many of their dishes without dropping too much dough. Will definitely go again."

  • "This was our first time to Ruth Chris and were not disappointed by the steak. We had the rib eye and the bone-in filet with scalloped potatoes and sautéed mushrooms. The rib eye was the favorite, the filet was ok, but just doesn't have the flavor of the rib eye. The sides were just ok, not too much flavor to the mushrooms. We shared the shrimp cocktail with remoulade sauce, which was very good. Overall, this is a restaurant to curb the craving for a perfectly seared steak- once in a while! Price is high, portions huge. Next time we would share a steak and order caesar salad perhaps. Bottom line, the rib eye was mouth watering."

  • "Was over done and tough. It was the night before Valentines Day, so I was a little disappointed. If it had been VD Day, I would have understood a bit more because they would have been much more busy than on a Thursday night."

  • "Yes, it's Ruth's, yes, it's corporate and a chain, but . . . The food and the service continue to be outstanding at this great Broadway location. Even with dining room reservations, we often opt for a window table in the bar to catch the street action entertainment(?). The wide-ranging menu always offers us something right for the moment, and the service is outstanding and very friendly without being obtrusive. A regular spot on our dining rotation."
