A word from Rustico
Rustico is the quintessential neighborhood pub on the edge of Old Town Alexandria. The menu features seasonal, hearty American fare from a wood-fired oven and grill, including pizzas and rotisserie meats, along with other rustic cuisine using the freshest local ingredients available. There’s also no mistaking Rustico’s love for barley & hops! The bar’s focal point is a custom galvanized inverted T bar with 30 brilliant taps book-ended by two massive coolers holding more than 250 different types of ales, lagers, ciders and stouts.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Had a delicious brunch but the highlight was the cinnamon sugar donuts with caramel sauce. Can't say enough good things about them."

  • "The only bad thing about this place? It gets pretty darned noisy. If you are prepared for that in advance, you'll have no issues because everything else about Rustico is outstanding. Rustico has an amazing beer list - they need a notebook to capture all of your options. My White Alagash was perfect for a very warm April night. Our dinners were also outstanding (we had pizza, pasta, and fish - all were amazing but the fish was soooo flavorful and moist that I would get it next time). Best of all was the service. From the huge smiles when we were greeted to our friendly and knowledgable waiter. I only wished Rustico was near our home in upper NW so we could come here more regularly!"

  • "WE went on a busy Saturday night. A group of 6 and they had our reservation ready when we arrived. Good food, everyone liked the beer and service was excellent.."

  • "You can tell these guys really love food. Especially pizza. The white pie was amazing."

  • "Rustico was a good place to grab a bite late at night. I had the kale salad. It wasn't bad! The risotto bites tasted like something that had been frozen then fried. I wouldn't get them again. I had a lovely sour beer. I'm curious about their beer selection. Will probably be back!"

  • "I have a dietary restriction to gluten and cow's milk so I ordered the winter squash pizza with gluten free crust and the salt roasted beet salad. I made our waiter aware of my restrictions but my salad had butter in the goat cheese fondu. My pizza had mozzarella on it. The corrected pizza came out just as the rest of my friends finished their meals. I was disappointed no manager ever came to the table to apologize. Restaurants offering gluten free items will attract customers with other food sensitivities. Rustico did not take my cow allergy serious. Otherwise the atmosphere and my friends meals were good. We were a party of 6 and still had a good time and spent time in the bar after dinner."

  • "We were a high maintenance group that night, and they went out of their way to take great care of us. I was entertaining out of town clients, and Rustico got their visit of to a fantastic start."

  • "Pizza is really excellent! And the extensive beer list is incomparable."

  • "They went above and beyond to make our 2nd anniversary dinner wonderful! We were with our 15 month old and they took great care to make sure that he was given his food before ours so we could start feeding him early. When we wanted photos taken of our family the waitstaff and management offered to assist with enthusiasm. The food was outstanding and the complimentary Prosecco was a wonderful treat. Thank you Rustico for a wonderful anniversary dinner!"

  • "I enjoy everything about Rustico. Great friendly servers. Our food choices were very good. The sausage and cheese biscuits. The chicken dip. The bbq pork pizza. And the warm donuts with dipping sauce. Will definitely return to RRRRustico. Yes!"

  • "Food was okay - nothing special. This is a beer joint and if you like beer you would probably rate it higher. My husband and I prefer wine and the wines by the glass at Rustico are pretty bad. There are only a few offered by the glass, and they are pricey for the quality. Additionally, the glass we ordered had clearly come from a bottle that had been open for a while. It's too bad because the kid menu is great and my kids really like this place. It does get pretty busy in the bar area, which made it a bit hard to hear at our table. I would go to Carlyle Grand in Shirlington next time for a more well-rounded experience."

  • "I had never been to Rustico on a Tuesday night and probably never will again. The service was really slow compared to a Saturday night where they are normally busy. I hadn't been there in a few months but it seems as if they were having a rough night. I ordered a half salad and my partner ordered a "big plate" of sea scallops. My half salad was bigger than the "big plate" which was also twice as expensive. Really, the scallops were more of an appetizer size. The half salad wasn't that great either. There was barely any cheese and it wasn't dressed properly. I doubt I'll return for anything but appetizers and pizza, which I know is good."

  • "Beautiful restaurant. Casual but excellent food. Try the risotto tots (A neat take on arancini) and carrot hummus. The pizzas are pretty good too. Mushroom has been my favorite so far. Great beer list, and the staff are helpful at narrowing down the choices. In general really excellent service, attentive without hovering. Go next door to Buzz Bakery for dessert. It's owned by the same group and has amazing selection."

  • "Unique and tasty menu options. Loved the beet salad. Burger was on the rare side of medium. Mushroom pizza has a special sauce - tasty. Outstanding beer selection. Families are comfortable bringing children along for a meal."

  • "My husband and I ordered wine & beer and a couple of appetizers prior to ordering our entrees. It was a Saturday evening and, while we were not planning to linger overly long over our meal, we were hoping for a relaxed experience. We were only half way through our appetizers when the entrees were brought to the table. Dilemma: finish appetizer and let entree cool, or eat the entree while hot and forget about the rest of the appetizers. When our server finally checked in with us (she did not deliver any part of the meal to us), we told her that we were unhappy that the entrees were rushed, and she quickly apologized and left. The meal itself was delicious, but service needs to be tweaked."

  • "This was our first time at Rustico and it was delicious. The menu while not large had many interesting choices. The beer list was extensive and we had excellent service. We will definitely go again."

  • "Fare for the table was generally good with exception to the sweet potato/goat cheese pizza, which appeared hours old and freshened up by dumping spinach on top. If it hadn't been endorsed by the waiter we never would have gone for it. My beer was warm and flat from the tap. Th waiter replaced it when we commented. Ambiance is nice, warehouse space with nice finishing touches. The fired brussel sprouts were delicious!"

  • "Incredible beer selection. I had the winter squash pizza, my date had the spicy chicken pizza. Both great (mine was outstanding!). Definitely a great little casual place in Alexandria."

  • "The food at Rustico was good, I didn't love the pizza I ordered, but the other people in my party did enjoy what they ordered. We didn't have great service, but overall had an enjoyable time."

  • "Great food, great service --- every time. Menu changes, and although something you love may be gone --- something better is there to take it's place. I absolutely love Rustico, and recommend it to anyone who hasn't tried it yet."

  • "Went here for my brothers birthday. It was great! The grilled pizza Is a must. The beer list is awesome!"

  • "I ordered the Bolognese. The noodles were cooked completely wrong. They were all stuck together like a hockey puck in the bowl. I had to cut pieces off to eat. On the inside of the clump the noodles were raw. You would think they would know how to cook pasta. And the chef shouldn't have let the dish out of the kitchen. It was there first week with a new menu, but the dish was inexcusably bad. The pizza my wife ordered was fine. The servers were good, but seemed a little bored since the place wasn't that crowded. We've eaten at other Neighborhood Restaurant Group venues and really had good meals, which makes this disaster of a meal surprising. Hopefully they get it together, but I'm not heading back there any time soon."

  • "Every time we come here, we have to order the deep fried deviled eggs, they're irresistible! The pizzas are also outstanding. Lastly, the beer list is quite robust and the option to order sample sizes of any draft is great for those who want diversity without the tipsiness."

  • "I've eaten here off and on for four years and it's often a mixed bag. The menu is a little funky. It's a great place if you like micro brew. It was a convenient spot to have a dinner meeting, and my guests enjoyed themselves. I'd give our pizza a solid C+, but our waiter Jay gets an A for outstanding service. Nice guy - ask to be seated in his section."

  • "Tempting dishes that hit the sweet spot between palate-teaser and comfort food. Generous portions, cheerful service and affordable wine choices!"
    Dined on 12/12/2013
  • "A very extensive beer list leaves a diner with many choices (perhaps too many choices). The food was good, but not necessarily anything to write home about. If I lived in the immediate area, I might go there occasionally but I don't know if it is worth the trip when there are so many other good restaurants in Alexandria."

  • "If you enjoy good food, done well and a friendly neighborhood lively vibe, this should be your new place. We were looking for something simple, not all of the courses, but a glass of wine a bowl of pasta with great sauce for one, a well done pizza for the other with some nice wine - score. If you have not tried it you should."

  • "We decided last minute to eat out, used Open Table, After being disappointed the chicken special was no longer available, ordered eggplant and pizza along with a meatball starter. Everything came out fast, hot, and delicious. While we were not in any hurry and not rushed at all, when we left we noticed we were in and out in well less than an hour."

  • "Stopped in for a quick bite and was pleased as usual. Attentive servers, good drink, and tasty food. This is our solid standby for Alexandria."

  • "Pros: First time at this place. I'd heard it was good and it was. I was very tempted to get something other than the pizza, but I'm glad I didn't. The pizza crust was great. I'd been to a similar place in Brooklyn, NY in Dec that had gotten rave reviews from the locals there. I think Rustico's pizza was even better. Service was very good as well. I'm looking forward to a return visit. Cons: The noise level was too loud for a comfortable conversation even on the dining room side away from the bar."

  • "Great food, considerable energy at the bar, good service from friendly staff, able to explain the brew list. The appetizers, salads, and pizza are always good-excellent. The special this night was superb. Recommend Rustico highly."

  • "I really enjoyed Rustico. We went there for New Year's Eve with another couple and had a wonderful time. The food is a little different... and I say this only because its not your usual dishes some combinations I would never think of, but everything had a great taste and we thoroughly enjoyed our night. The service was outstanding and our waitress was very knowledgeable and friendly. I would definitely recommend it and we will go back!"

  • "Rustico in Alexandria tends to be hit or miss, for us. Tonight was a miss. It doesn't matter what time of year it is; this restaurant is always freezing inside. During winter, my wife never removes her coat, and during summer, she brings along a sweatshirt. We tried the 'spicy' chicken pizza, which, to our disappointment, was not at all spicy. The chicken was dry, and neither the cherry peppers nor chipotle tomato sauce provided any of the advertised heat. Our server was friendly, but insincere. Nearing the end of our meal, he routinely asked "May I bring you anything else this evening?" I responded "May we see a dessert menu, please?" "Actually, the kitchen just closed." Fail."

  • "Even if you don't think you like beer you'll find one you like here! There are great descriptions of each beer, expert servers to guide you and tasting sizes so you don't have to make a big commitment if you're not sure you're gonna like it. The food list isn't huge but interesting and well made. To start, we had the chicken dip, yes, chicken dip. Warm, creamy, a good beer foil. Burger was juicy and cooked to the doneness ordered and the fries were more-ish. I've often been disappointed by mussels but these here were terrifically cooked with a delightful broth into which you'll be dunking the bread over and over. The app size is plenty for a main meal."

  • "Brunch was delicious. One member of our group was a half hour late and the wait staff was patient and continued to provide great service. The ambiance is open and energetic. The food was fantastic. I got the the pulled pork hash which was delicious. Others got the breakfast panini which came on a puffy bread that seemed a cross between a fresh tortilla and naan (meal got rave reviews) and the burger, which also got good marks."
