Diner Reviews
  • "From the moment you walk in and are greeted by the lovely hostess and owner, you will feel at home. Rustica serves up consistent, delectable Italian specialties. The food is scrumptious, the wine list is enviable- lots of reasonably priced and eclectic choices but most of all, the warmth you feel from the staff is the best. Notable menu picks: grilled calamari appetizer with balsamic drizzle, a fresh Caesar salad, the risotto de mare and the Branzino. Delish! And, don't leave without a slice of Juliana's homemade flourless chocolate torte with a side of gelato. Bon Appetit!"

  • "Food was really good. Very authentic Italian. Only complaint was that table was too small for 4 people."

  • "This was our first visit. We found that the staff was very attentive and personable. The food was very good, we especially liked the grilled calamari appetizer and Shrimp Diavolo entree. We are looking forward to returning with friends."

  • "Great experience. The food is grand, the wine was very good. Service is spot on, with the owners interacting with everybody. The deserts are sinful, but the cheese cake is to die for. We had dinner with friends who we hadn't seen in awhile. We all had a most enjoyable evening."

  • "Besides the food and ever changing menu being a plus, I had to change my reservation time twice thru open table. There was no problem with the changes at the restaurant and All communication was confirmed and correct. Very easy and helpful! Bravo, Juliana and Nino."

  • "It was our first visit and we were extremely happy. The diver scallops with saffron were lovely and the veal scallopini was delicious. We are very happy to find an Italian restaurant in the area that we like. We will go again soon."

  • "My friend and I had heard wonderful things about Rustica so were anxious to try it. We were graciously greeted by the owner and bartender and seated at a cozy table in the bar area. We enjoyed a bottle of Damilano barbera d'asti and ordered from the prix fix menu. Each course was prepared to perfection. we can't wait to return."

  • "After having them cater a few company events for us I had to go check them out in person. If your like fine Italian food you will not be disappointed. I highly recommend either the Carbonara or the Bolognese, they are excellent. They have a wide selection of wines as well. Reservations are a must as they have a small dining area and it gets busy quick. I will definitely go back soon."

  • "Very busy, but excellent service. Portion sizes were a little smaller than I'm used to having, but the quality of the food was outstanding."

  • "We have been to Rustica twice for dinner. The food is wonderful...fresh ingredients - they make all their own pasta & sauces. The desserts are also made here and are delicious and beautifully presented. The owners and staff are friendly and knowledgeable about the wines and menu and make you feel comfortable and welcome. This place is a little gem!"

  • "In the Lower CT River Valley and the Shoreline you'll not find a more authentic Italian food experience than here. There's the tired old normal Italian restaurant food, fair, and such and then there's Rustica which is more like flying to the Island of Capri and eating a food prepared with such care and expertise it's unforgettable."

  • "Love the owners, love the atmosphere and enjoy the menu! The butternut squash ravioli and the crostata are amazing!!! Great night out in Chester."

  • "We simply love the Rustica! From the very beginning, you are made to feel special, like family. The food is superb. The seafood risotto--absolutely amazing! The menu changes often enough to make your dining experience varied. There was no rush to move the table either and we were left to enjoy our meal and our company. The pricing is right on. Overall the dining experience was wonderful and we will be back often."

  • "The restaurant was recommended by a friend so my wife any I decided to give it a try. The restaurant was busy when we arrived which we hoped was a good indication of the food to come. She had the pollenta for a start which she enjoyed and as an entree the veal pizziola which was very tough and the vegetables undercooked. I had the ceasar salad which was a half of romaine lettuce with a little dressing. Forgetable. I had the oso boco which however was excellent. We Will not return."

  • "All dishes seem to be prepared very well, and delicious even for discriminating diners. The owners are very attentive and try hard to do it right. I hope they succeed and stay in this revolving door location. My pet peeve was the waitstaff. Some seem to have language problems (i.e., English comprehension), but the young, native-English speaker woman was rather rude. She brought me a cup of coffee, without a little thing of cream. I finally caught her attention and asked for cream. She said "whoa?" like a teenage kid. Needless to say, coffee was lukewarm by then. For a $50.00 meal per person, I did not appreciate that. For beer drinkers, it is a very meager choice. But I do think the food is very good."

  • "Italian restaurants are ubiquitous. Most are unremarkable. This one is certainly the best you'll encounter along the Route 9 corridor and on the shoreline. While not the best Caesar salad in my book certainly better than most provide but that's the only marginal statement I can make. The New Years menu was special and everything was deliscious and prepared perfectly. The veal oossobuco was packed with flavor & tender atop wonderful risotto. The triangle ravioli of cheese and butternut squash was wrapped in handmade delicate pasta with a brown butter sauce that made me regret ordering a 1/2 portion as an appetizer. The service impeccable & Brenna the bartender made the best Kamakaze this side of Tokyo. It's my second visit and not my last."

  • "We have dined at Rustica Ristorante three times and selected it for our New Year's Eve dinner. It is simply outstanding. The owners and staff create a very welcoming atmosphere in a warm inviting spot. The menu changes frequently featuring the best of what the market has to offer. Each dish we have tried has been outstanding--well prepared, flavorful, and balanced. Prices for a restaurant of this quality are quite reasonable. It is very popular so we suggest making a reservation, particularly for a weekend night. We highly recommend Rustica to everyone."

  • "The food and wine were outstanding as was the service. The owner is engaged and helpful. We had a wonderful time and will go back soon. Only one negative...the dining room was cramped. They need to take out two tables."

  • "This little restaurant is a hidden gem in Chester. The decor is simple yet sophisticated. The bar is cozy and a great option if the dining room is full (which it often is on the weekends). The food is superb. They have a great selection of appetizers as well as pasta and meat entrees. The serving size is moderate but with an appetizer and/or dessert you will be full. The service is attentive and the owners make a point to visit every table! Prices are slightly high but you get what you pay for. The food is well worth it. If you live in this area, you know we have plenty of restaurants, but truly good restaurants (that don't break the bank) are few and far between. Rustica is a hidden gem that I will return to again and again. Bon Appetit!"

  • "The initial welcome from the Maître de was exceptional - I felt as though he knew us personally (which he didn't), and we were welcomed warmly and escorted to our table. Our server was either new, or too busy to mention any extras/specials that evening - and when another server introduced herself to the table to our left and explained that we could have had a 'smaller dish' - we had wished we had known that, and would have ordered more. The food was delicious however - presented well, and the squash ravioli I had was out of this world. We will be returning -"

  • "A family owned and operated restaurant. Mom is in the kitchen, dad runs the front. Service was friendly and efficient without being overwhelming. The food was high quality, tastefully served, and well priced. Rustica is a must for folks seeking a pleasant, delicious dining experience. Put this one on your get-to list. msr, Old Lyme, CT"

  • "This is a wonderful new addition to the Chester area dining scene. The owner is very much present and makes each dining experience special. The menu changes as fresh items are available. All entrees we have tried have been excellent. We have eaten here a number of times since we discovered it and our only fear is that it may become so popular that we will have a hard time getting a reservation since we are very much last minute diners!"

  • "Calimari was too rubbery (not breaded style). Service was slow, despite the owner yelling "subito" to the waiters whenever we asked for something. We did not get bread until we asked. Food in general was good, though. Dessert was excellent."

  • "We ate at Rustico on a Sunday evening after seeing the matinee performance of "Most Happy Fella" at Goodspeed Opera House. It was a perfect way to continue to enjoy the play, which is about an Italian immigrant to the Napa Valley. The food was authentic Italian (starting with terrific Italian bread), and thn owner, his wife and the rest of the staff are helpful and attentive. The restaurant has been open for only a few months. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and will return whenever we are in the area."

  • "Our table was ready when we arrived. The restaurant was crowded and noisy. We were rushed through our dinner, there was no time to enjoy between courses. When the bill arrived, we were charged for an extra wine. Won't be back."

  • "This new restaurant is one I would return to frequently mostly due to the fresh made pasta, focus on quality rather than quantity, and the friendly owners. The owner and his wife run the place and are very present in the dining room all night. They are friendly and clearly care about the customer's experience. Wine list is extensive. I applaud the owners and hope they have great success so that this restaurant continues (this is the third restaurant in this space in about 4 years). The location is a bit challenging with respect to visibility (in a small strip mall on Route 154 just north of the Chester fairground) - so the owner needs to advertise well. Help him out and spread the word! The food is great and the prices are moderate."

  • "Wonderful homemade pastas perfectly prepared. Monkfish was also delightful. Nice wine list. Owners extremely attentive to every table. This was our second visit and will be followed by more. Don't miss the desserts; fruit crostata and best crème brulee ever!"
