  • "Good food and pleasant surroundings. Quieter than most local restaurants."

  • "A wonderful local dining spot with great food and service"

  • "Suprisingly good--first visit success for Father's Day brunch. Desserts are minute bites to savour."

  • "Went for Father's Day brunch. Had a nice menu selection for the occasion. Staff was friendly if a bit over worked. The bar made a fabulous fresh Bloody Mary. The kids enjoyed their dishes. Has a rustic smokehouse atmosphere. The price was within range of the $$ rating. Food was original and good. We would go back again even if not for a special occasion."

  • "Friendly and knowledgeable staff, vibrant ambiance, and food that never disappoints. This is our new "go to" spot."

  • "I've already recommended Rustic Tavern to several people. The service was good but the food was divine. Wonderful flavors and fresh. The owner seated us and was welcoming, warm and interested in our dining experience. Loved it."

  • "We enjoy this neighborhood restaurant located on the main street of lovely Lafayette. The cuisine is delicious, with very fresh produce, excellent salads, and tender, high-quality meats from the smoker/grill. The preparations are unique but not pretentious and portions are generous.Very friendly, attentive wait staff. It's lovely dining on the patio in summertime. It's low key, so jeans and sandals are fine."

  • "The Rustic Tavern recently celebrated its 1st birthday and, although it was was quite good from the very start, it has, over that year, refined and polished it's menu, wine list, service and, most importantly, its understanding of what their clientele wants in an memorable dining experience, from the friendly greeting at the door to the to the smiles and "thank you"s at the end of the day. The menu selections are not all-too-many but are diverse, well thought out and prepared perfectly in concert with the season's best and freshest offerings. Being so popular, it is often filled to capacity and it was quite noisy initially, but they recognized that and have abated the noise level with a new ceiling. The experience is better than ever."

  • "Perhaps we ordered the wrong things. I had the kale salad, which was nice, and my friend had the Caesar salad and enjoyed it. But the risotto version of paella was average, at best. Some of the shellfish was not very warm, some of the fish was in small pieces that kind of disintegrated, there was too much chicken spread across the top, and the saffron sauce was runny and not very delicate...in short, it just didn't come together in the balanced, delicious, intermingled way that should characterize paella (or a good risotto, for that matter). The chocolate creme brûlée was one dimensional...just an ordinary sweet dish, nothing special. The wine list was a bit limited, but offered some nice choices, and we enjoyed the glasses we ordered. "

  • "Rustic tavern has now become one of our favorite local restaurants. We had wild salmon grilled just right with a flavorful selection of vegetables and spices. We find the service to be very good with knowledgable friendly servers. Salads are large and creative. Kale was very fresh and uniquely flavored. Very good value with adequate pours for wines by the glass. Not stingy with any preparation but not overdone. Just go and enjoy. "

  • "I love this place. The food is excellent, creative and perfectly prepared. The kale salad is the best anywhere, but everything is excellent. The artichoke is excellent. The pasta (daily house-made fettucine) is the best I have ever had. The mussels are also excellent, and I have had some excellent specials here as well. The service has always been warm, friendly, attentive and extremely competent. Everyone from the head of the house, bartenders, wait staff/servers, always make one feel welcome and wanting to make sure you have an excellent dining experience. I have been here many times, including special occasions (e.g. valentine's) as well as more typical night out meals. Always a great meal and experience, try it, you'll like it!"

  • "The noise was so loud that it was impossible to carry on a normal conversation. It did not help that the foursome behind us were obnoxiously loud. The noise level was not "energetic" it ruined our evening. Too bad because the food was delicious and the server was as pleasant as could be. I would not recommend this place for dinner on a weekend."

  • "This was my second time dining at Rustic Tavern. The good, service and atmosphere were great!"

  • "The ambiance at the Rustic Tavern is very welcoming; it is kid friendly but not dominated by kids. It has a sophisticated feel without being pretension. The service staff have a wonderful blend of friendly and efficient. They have a server who is witty and very knowledgeable about the food; he definitely enhances the experience. But, of course, the food is the most important consideration and it is very good. Not Michelin 3 star but excellent for a nice dinner or lunch. Their soups are always excellent. They have healthy dishes as well as some comfort food. The chicken dish is great and the kale salad is very tasty. The artichoke was cooked perfectly and had a nice sauce. They have a nice wine list. Definitely worth a try."

  • "Long time residents of the Lamorinda area, we found ourselves in a dining rut, always going to the same places but wanted something local, fun, relaxed, reasonably priced and with a full bar. A web search came up with the Rustic Tavern so we tried it on Friday night and loved it. We will definitely be back and recommend it."

  • "We love this restaurant for lunch. The menu and food are perfect. We had lunch several times here before we decided to go for dinner. Dinner was disappointing. The choices are limited - had hard time selecting something to eat and the food was okay to good but not as excellent as our lunch choices. We will return time and time again but just for lunch. "

  • "I was really happy with my dinner experience - friendly, engaging people and classy style. The food was wonderful, from a loaded paella special to a cheesecake parfait. It has quickly become a wonderful bright light in the Lafayette dining landscape! I would gladly return to try lunch. "

  • "This was our first time at the Rustic Tavern. The food was excellent and the service was outstanding. We had a reservation for outside but were told it wasn't available when we arrived. Disappointed but we did get a nice table for two in the corner. Very noisy inside and noticeable. But again, we went there for the food and we were NOT disappointed. This is a very, very good restaurant."

  • "Looking for a delicious meal? Then Rustic Tavern won't disappoint ... if you don't mind waiting a longer than customary amount of time to be served. This was my third visit at this restaurant and during each visit, the service was lacking. Apologies aside, how many times does one have to hear "I'm sorry for the wait", before one wonders are they properly staffed. And this last visit, our server seemed to have an attitude because we had to ask for bread, when is the drink we ordered coming, etc. They seem to be trying to overcome this by having a kindly old gentleman who says he's there only 10 hours a week walk around asking "is everything okay", really? At any rate, probably my last visit to this venue for a while, despite the tasty food."

  • "It was crowded on a Saturday night and deservedly so. We liked all the dishes we had which included mussels, caesar salad, sole special, fettucine, etc. Server was very attentive and the food arrived promptly as ordered. All in all, a very satisfying experience. "

  • "This is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. Enjoy the outdoor seating in good weather -- watch downtown Lafayette. We went on a quiet mid week warm night -- chef was flexible and made a wonderful accommodation for allergies -- made a special salad dressing just for me. Second time, for dinner - food both times was delicious. Friendly, attentive wait staff. Also good for lunch - the sandwiches are so fresh. "

  • "Upscale with a casual, comfortable & friendly atmosphere. Small menu with locally sourced, in season food. Nice patio on a warm night. Love the open kitchen. "

  • "What a great find! The ambiance is a perfect blend of relaxed, beautiful, and friendly. The chef/owner Gary makes sure that every dish he sends out is amazing. My husband is vegan and I'm vegetarian. Needless to say, dining out can be a challenge in the Lafayette area. Gary went out of his way to make dinner amazing. His take on a veggie pasta is wonderful. Go with the manager's tip of adding kale and you will lap it all up with their wonderful bread. Gary's Brussell sprouts, in an apple cider, beer, (and for meat lovers, bacon) reduction, are amazing. They also have sidewalk tables as an added incentive for a fun summer's night out. Needless to say, wen will bring our friends back here for more amazing food and fun."

  • "food was good, but the service was appalling. we were overlooked for 12 minutes after seated. eveything was so slow. had to ask for everything except water. we went for a quick lunch that took 2 hours."

  • "Read the title... The French toast is delicious!!!!"

  • "I love pork chops so when I encounter a restaurant that has it on the menu I try it. Often times I get disapointed because the pork chop is either dry or tough or both! The Rustic Tavern's pork chop was delicious! Super juicy and tender! the sides: roasted sprouts and red cabbage were an execellent paring. Also, the Bread Pudding deserves a mention - the lightest bread pudding I ever had! Give this restaurant a try I promise you won't be disapointed. "

  • "These are very friendly people who are willing to give opinions if asked. When I ordered a very rare steak ("blue") and it came more "medium," the server and manager both apologized, had a new one ordered and delivered as soon as possible and later made sure it was what I wanted. "

  • "Welcoming, good food, good wine, people of all ages, a lively place, but in this case it's a good thing because it's spirited and not too much. "

  • "This is our fourth time to eat at the Rustic Tavern and we enjoyed it this time, too. The staff is friendly and helpful and the food is excellent. We're becoming regulars - especially for the roasted vegetable sandwich - a true treasure!"

  • "Our first time here for a birthday celebration. Our server Sandy was attentive. There was no problem splitting dishes. Excellent arugala salad and tasty brussels sprouts with bacon. The pumpkin fries are battered and fried and were quite greasy. This didn't stop us from polishing them off. Also tried the chocolate creme brulee. The chocolate was smooth and delicious, the brulee was a little thick and a little more bruleed than we'd have liked - also finished off. Excellent red wine suggestion and that was dinner."

  • "We were pleasantly surprised by our dinner here. The fried pumpkin sticks were something I had not seen on any other menu, and they were delicious. Both of our salads (beet and caesar) were very good, pairing a bacon viniagrette with beets works really well. Our short rib entree and side of brussel sprouts were also delicious. Highly recommend the chocolate creme brulee for dessert, it was dreamy. The presence of two large televisions over the bar was a bit distracting, but I guess if it's called a "tavern," then tvs are allowed. The service was friendly and attentive. It made for a very nice date night out."

  • "Charming personable environment. Well hosted by the genial owner/chef and his wife. Excellent organic choices. Butternut squash soup , cream -free, was the soup of the day justifiably extolled by all. Good food choices for thoughtful dining. Friendly staff and good service. Apparently my car was blocking another vehicle in the parking lot. The waiter came to me , requested my keys and moved my car. Prices reasonable."

  • "My two siblings and their spouses had a great dinner at Rustic last Friday. We started with the mussels and salmon apps which were outstanding. My wife and I each had the grass fed steak which was really flavorful. We had the Sangiovese (sp?) wine that was on the list and found it to be a great value. The service was great. We live in the neighborhood and have lots of choices in Lafayette and this restaurant keeps getting better. Thanx for a nice evening"
