Russian Tea Room - NYCBeautiful atmosphereI was impressed with an excelent service and how they slide out the table for you ,so when you seat in the booth, you don't need slide all over the sofa to get to the middle of it. Very beautiful interior. I agree with another customer, who left a review previously, that portions are very tiny and Olivie salad not exactly as regular Russian Olivie. As I found out ,owners are not Russians, but a guy ,who opened the restaurant(then tea room) was Russian.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for brunch!I happened to be in NYC and wanted to catch up with a friend. However some of the prices were unsubstitiantiated, i.e. $18 for a tiny piece of tiramisu (though delicious).
The Beef Stroganoff was amazing, the Chicken Kiev, less so.
Beautiful interior, especially the second floor with the bear fishtank.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMNice Brunch SpotSmoked salmon, onion soup and blintz (cheese and cherry) were as good as any in the city. Service was attentive and well paced. And the caviar was breathtaking in both price and quality!3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMOld and still goodAs with most legendary historic restaurants, they may not hold up. Well I have never been to the Russian Tea Room before, but this was an excellant dinner. We had the Pre Fix Pre Theater dinner. Service was wonderful, we had a very pleasant waitress, the food was promt, hot and good. The ambiance is classic, be sure to either see the other room or the photos on the lower level.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was my first visit to theIt was my first visit to the Russian Tea Room and it was a wonderful experience.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMJust a beautiful New YorkJust a beautiful New York icon. Highly recommended.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Russian Food and VodkaI had heard many good things over the years about the Russian Tea Room. Finally, my wife Cindy and I went there for our first anniversary. It made the occasion that much more memorable.
First, there was the atmosphere. About the only thing disappointing about it was that I expected to hear Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov, not Ravel and Beethoven (as much as I enjoy their compositions).
Then there was the food. We shared the borshch and a salad. Cindy had the beef stroganoff, while I had a daily special, which I guess was the Sakhalin Island version of sashimi. For dessert Cindy had the cheesecake, and I had a chocolate concoction. Both were superb.
And last but certainly not least, there was the vodka. It's strong; don't overindulge!3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGood food, very nice atmosphere,Good food, very nice atmosphere, extremely pleasant staff and excellent service. Wouldn't change a thing about this fine and very well established NY classic restaurant.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a special place. TheyAlways a special place. They now serve breakfast and have a $40 Business Luch with nice selections (some items have an upcharge.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMI went here on it's reputation,I went here on it's reputation, and some recommendations by friends. I agree with some other reviews I've seen making remarks about how it's not loose leaf tea, which while not a show-stopper, is a bit confusing.
All that being said, the tea was actually good, and the experience itself was worth the expense. At this point, I would advise against thinking you're going to a one-star place, but like having a drink in the oak room, or skating in central park...etc.. you should probably go here at some point, it's old school, which has value for that reason alone.2/24/2013 12:00:00 AMA great Russian NY fun experienceGreat to see The Russian Tearoom back refurbished but not substantially changed. Still the setting we saw and enjoyed in "Tootsie". Food excellent. Service was impeccable. Setting a delight.
