A word from Russia House
Nestled on the corner of Connecticut and Florida Avenues, this inspired Russian restaurant and lounge is evocatively reminiscent of the era of the Tsars. The Russian-European elegance of the Russia House offers a uniquely warm and comfortable meeting place for anyone appreciative of its friendly and intimate coziness. It is the perfect meeting place for the true Washington socialite. The Russian-infused intercontinental cuisine pleases the most refined palate with such nouveau-traditional entrees as the Beef Stroganoff and the Chicken Kiev. Further true to tradition, the Russia House features an impressive selection of caviars and one of the largest vodka collections in Washington, D.C.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "After talking about going to Russia House for awhile, my friend and I finally went. The food was excellent, the service was great, and the drinks were delicious! Too often you go to restaurants that are too expensive for what you get and the service is so-so. Russia House delivers on all fronts and I would definitely go here again."

  • "The food is worth every bit of its steep price tag when you go to Russia House. The Pelmini appitizer is divine. We have been here twice now and both entrees I ordered, beef stroganof and their duck, were both wonderfully done. The wine and beer are all selected to be among the best that eastern Europe has to offer and can provide some different flavors and experiences to that which you can get here. If you are in the mood for something stronger, there is a MASSIVE list of Vodkas available from around the world. The martinis are expensive, but very well made. Expect to come out lighter in the wallet but full of the experience and great food."

  • "My friend and I had an evening reservation for Russia house -- we ended up being seated around 9:45. Upstairs the mood is very loud and vibrant, but we were seated in a smaller room downstairs. The decor was pleasing, and though a bit noisy, was not too loud to hold a conversation and soon quieted down considerably. I had a glass of wine and my friend had a hot tea which were both to our liking. We shared the short rib stuffed peppers and the Colorado pierogies, both of which were delicious, though I think I preferred the stuffed peppers -- the hollandaise was great. I had the Zapechionaya Baranina -- roasted lamb with savory bread pudding and Swiss chard -- excellent. Can't speak to my friend's meal, but the creme brulee -- amazing"

  • "Another great dinner at the Russia House. We were there for the second time, this time for a (Russia-related) special occasion. The food is very good to great, service perfect, ambiance very nice. We receveid a nice surprise for dessert, given our special occasion."

  • "The Russia House has an excellent bar, with an impressive vodka selection, but it's nice for a romantic date too."

  • "This is my favorite restaurant in DC, hands down. While I'm not much into the bar scene anymore, and the downstairs is a bit cramped, it's worth it. My wife and I thoroughly enjoy this place. The service here is the most attentive of any of the DuPont Circle restaurants. The rabbit and dumplings, with the radish sauce were a huge surprise, excellent, and the cocotte is still probably my favorite thing on the menu."

  • "We had the beef stroganoff and all the classics. While the stroganoff was a bit chewy for my taste, everything else was excellent. Our waitress was very helpful and quick. We will be returning sometime soon."

  • "Food was unimpressive. If you like vodka, go drink there but thats about it."

  • "We made a meal of caviar, vodka and small plates - pretty much ordered all of the appetizers on the menu between the four of us. Totally fun, totally great. Would do it again any time. Nice service, nice atmosphere."

  • "Husband and I went there Saturday night for date night. The service was great. Our waiter was very attentive and had great knowledge of the menu. We ordered martinis, they were very delicious, but was rather weak. The the price, I guess I was expecting something with more of a kick. We ordered a few appetizers. The salmon and caviar as well as the meat platter was excellent. I wasn't too crazy about the Sevruga black caviar. I think the sour cream is too strong for that particular caviar. For dinner, my husband ordered the rabbit and I ordered the duck breast. I didn't try the rabbit, but my husband said it was excellent. And I thought the duck breast was pretty decent, but I have definitely had better."

  • "The food was very good, but the service was slow. It took at least 30 minutes since the time we ordered to get our food. Then when we were done eating, the server took our plates and did not come back to the table for about 20 minutes. We had a groupon, I'm not sure it would have been worth it without the groupon. We are looking forward to coming back and trying out their happy hour deals (1/2 price appetizers, and $7 martinis) - their appetizers looked really good, although we didn't trying any this visit (we only got entrees)."

  • "The food was good "authentic" Russian. The staff was Russian so the experience was authentic as well. It was not spacious but the atmosphere made it cozy. Would go again and take advantage of the bar upstairs because everyone looked like they were having a blast."

  • "Food was extremely disappointing. Dry chicken, frozen oysters, flavorless fish. The service was good but it seems like between the first course & main course they completely forgot about us. The redeeming component of the meal was the caviar and honestly that comes out of a jar so takes no talent."

  • "We made reservations for Valentine's Day. The food was great, service was even better. Cocktails were very good as well. Not a place for frequent visits, as it is not cheap. But great for special occasions. Even better for date night. Definitely going back, but taking a cab so we can have a round or two of the vodka sampler:)"

  • "Having read uneven reviews, I was not sure what to expect. I surprised my wife with this Restaurant on Valentine's as she was born and raised in Moscow. From the moment we entered until the moment we left, the people were absolutely awesome. The food was perfect and the serving sizes for a tasting menu were huge. We will become regulars as we both loved the place and we highly recommend Russia House!"

  • "I went here expecting the food to be very typical Eastern European (fresh and flavorful), especially because of the price point. However, it did not meet my expectations at all. I ordered a rabbit stew with duck confeit. The rabbit turned out to be in the form of a sausage, and the duck confit looked like a prepacked sliced wrap for h'orsdeouvres. On a positive note our waitress was very nice, and the ambience was nice as well."

  • "This was a great restaurant! I took my boyfriend for his birthday dinner and the place was amazing. The food was so good, the service was even better. He loved their extensive and notable vodka list and I died for their dessert! I would recommend The Russia House to anyone and will be going back :)"

  • "The Vodka list is nothing if not extensive and I suggest building your meal around multiple shots. Get it delivered neat with a side of ice so you can fully appreciate the differences. The caviar service although basic is super fun and good for 2 or 4 . All of the appetizers are very solid but the main courses are on the weak side. Service is fast and efficient with a smile."

  • "I was very impressed with this place! The food was quite nice but the selection of vodka was EXCEPTIONAL!!! WOW! I believe I found the best vodka I've ever had."

  • "We celebrated our wedding anniversary at Russia House recently. It was a delightful evening in all respects. The room was charming with appointments worthy of a Czarist-era dinning room. The wine list has some interesting wines from Eastern Europe and former Soviet Republics. We had a very nice and quite reasonably priced Georgian red. The appetizers were the stars, including the blini with sevruga caviar and the pierozhki. The service was attentive without being intrusive."

  • "Love the vodka tasting and the pierogies. We didn't get to have a full meal there this year, but seriously love the warm and cozy space."

  • "We had such an amazing time here. Our fantastic waiter helped us pick out a vodka flight, told us about all the food, and kept us well stocked. The food was delicious, and it was a wonderful place for a date night."
    Dined on 1/24/2014
  • "I think everything was nice, but the most memorable part was the unfavorable mismatch between the quality of the food and the price; the food was fine, as far as food goes, but left rather a lot to be desired as far as very expensive food goes."

  • "Food is very hit or miss baised off a persons personal pallet. A little pricy but good, filling, home style food. Amazing staff! I've been here three times so far and plan to go back many more times."

  • "Made a reservation for late in the night. I was surprised that they were open so late because of the weather. However me and my girlfriend walked from our house and made it 5 mins before our reservation. Waited at the hostess for 5 mins only to be told that the kitchen had closed at 7. Wish you had not taken my reservation I would gladly gone somewhere else. Poor management"

  • "Russia House was great! I went with my husband and another couple and we all had a great time. None of us were really vodka drinkers, but since thus place is known for their vodka we shared a flight. It was amazing! We might all be vodka snobs now. :) the service was also fantastic and we had a great time."

  • "Delicious food, great service. Great place for dinner."

  • "The only reason I gave the food such a low rating was because I didn't enjoy my main entree. I ordered the Salmon thinking it would be breaded, but it was more wrapped in pastry dough. Personally I wasn't a fan, but the sauce accompanying it and the first course were wonderful!"

  • "The food was quite tasty but the service put the experience over the top. Our server was very nice and polite. She was helpful without being intrusive. Our courses were timed perfectly. Never had Russian cuisine before but definitey looking forward to a do-over."

  • "Outstanding service and the the food was great. If you don't like Vodka, you may be less entheusiastic. Chose if for "something different" and were not disappointed. Our waitress was very knowledgable about both food and drink. We were not rushed, and very pleased with the level of service and her knowledge of both food and drink. Plan to go upstairs to one of the bars for an after dinner drink."

  • "This was my first time eating at this restaraunt and I must say the meal I had places in the top 5 best meals I've ever had. Everything was just so flavorful. The wine list and vodka selection was vast. The sevice was great. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the entrees and very helpful in helping us with our selection. I will most likely return to this place in the near future"

  • "The food and the setting is similar to that in an upscale restaurant in Moscow or Kiev---some years back. There have been some concessions in the menu to American tastes, like the greater use of fresh vegetables, even salad. But the blini starter small plate, with sour cream and caviar is accompanied by home-made pickles that are exactly what you would have had in those upscale restaurants years ago. To me, those pickles take the place of Proust's Madeleine for the crumbling and newly crumbled Soviet Union. The much longer-term French influence on high style Russian cooking was represented by a perfectly acceptable creme brulee for dessert. The Ukrainian vodkas were excellent, and not easily found here. Service attentive, not intrusive."

  • "Service was great even on a Sunday night after a holiday! A must try is the vodka sampler...let your server choose for you! Sharing a few appetizers for the table is the best way to get a little taste of everything before heading into the main courses. Overall a very pleasing experience. We will definitely go back!"

  • "Food was excellent only drawback is the front stairs to enter the restaurant and then the stairs down to ground level to be seated. Restaurant did open a ground level door to level, it was most appreciated. restaurant is not easily handicap accessable. I guess one with good legs would have different opinion. Food, service and wait staff were excellent."
