RussetGreat food!!!Went for brunch on Mothers Day and the food was outstanding. Unique combinations with great seasonal veggies. The Lobster Frittata was outstanding. Took our 3 year old and the restaurant was very accommodating and there were plenty of items in the brunch menu that, while not intended for kids, were perfect for him.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFewer options = all are greatThe menu is sparse, but makes it easier to decide! As a group of 4 we were all pleased with our appetizers and entrees. We had duck and 2 different types of fish, all with generous portions. The halibut was fresh and tasty. I think the philosophy of less is more definitely applies here with regards to the menu, as you know what you get will be delicious and fresh. The atmosphere was relaxed and casual, the service was helpful without being harping.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Service & Delicious FoodAnother great BYO in Philly. The food is quite delicious and culinarily unique. Our server Oscar was excellent. I was hesitant to order the whole fish branzino and he took the time to carefully describe it to me. I'm glad he sold me on it because it was wonderful.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMFresh food equals good foodThe food was outstanding, and there certainly was enough of a selection for variety. Our waitress was exceptionally helpful and knowledgeable. Because everything is made to order, it does take a while to get the food. But worth the wait. The only reason service does not get five stars is the delay. The server was terrific. Bring a bottle of wine and a good conversationalist, and relax and enjoy the excellent food. Allow at least an hour and a half.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMRusset RavesI dined at Russet with a girlfriend before a concert on May 8th. The experience was memorable in all of the best ways - a wonderful, fresh farm-to-table menu, quiet and attentive wait staff, quiet ambiance for conversation, no distracting music, timely receipt of food items gave time for savoring!!! Thank you for opening this wonderful restaurant. I look forward to many future opportunities to eat at Russet!!5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding foodThis was one of the best meals I had in Philly, period. And head and shoulders above many many places elsewhere! So, it is not cheap. But sure it is worth the price!5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat Fork has lost. The meal I enjoyed at Russett had all the hallmarks of the wonderful food I used to enjoy at Fork-fresh, well made and presented, flavorful, ample and thoughtfully sourced. The cheerful, attitude free staff was a major factor in my enjoyment. Thank you Russett for some of the best food in Philadelphia today.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMRusset's attention to detailRusset's attention to detail in their plates and service is exceptional! Everything from the warm ambiance to the bread baskets make you feel like you're in someone's living room. Amazing meal!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMa repeat placeWe dined with friends who had eaten there in earlier days and was not pleased. We knew they lived across the street from Russets and convinced them to try it again. They and we were extremely surprised with our experience. My friend and I had Halibut and it was probably the best piece of fish I have eaten in some time. The service was attentive but not overly so. The bread was especially good. Our friend was celebrating her birthday and a candle was put on our jointly shared dessert! We are going again.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGrazi. We tried Russet after being given a recommendation from Open Table for a restaurant near The Academy of Music and we have been raving ever since. We liked everything about this restaurant. The food is simply outstanding. The limited menu is no problem. In fact it is a plus, plus because everything is fresh and fabulous. Our servers were pleasant and eager to please. Even to the point of asking the chef how he made the sauce for my perfectly baked halibut. We will definitely return. the sooner the better.
Teri Smith4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMBYOB you must tryTwo ate early in a Saturday before a concert. When we arrived there was only two other people in the room. This is a BYOB restaurant, rare at this level in PHL. Menu was short but interesting. For appetizers, we had ramps ravioli, a fantastic dish, and local prosciutto, good but not as good and the best Italian or Spanish dry cured ham. For dinner we had halibut, very good and perfectly cooked and a Tuscan Style Pork Sausage, with polenta just delicious and not over cooked, as is frequently the case. Dessert and coffee were a chocolate cake and cheese. Coffee was good. Service was informal, attentive, prompt. We were given separate glasses for our red and white at no charge! Not cheap but we will be back.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother nice Philly BYOB.Another nice Philly BYOB. The food was very strong, but not amazing. However, it's very seasonal (changing virtually daily), which is generally a plus to me, and leads to natural variation in quality; could be better or worse on a second visit... but definitely worth one.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWill return...ASAPI am a relatively new resident of PA and have only been to Philly a few times. But for dining in Philadelphia, I need look no further than Russet. Beautifully designed website. Warm welcome. High ceilings and arches dating back to the 1800's. Staff, each and every one of them, without a fault. Friendliness abounds. Exemplary dining experience. A visit with the chef afterwards a high point as well.
We will be back on our next visit to Philly...and the next...4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMI absolutely loved Russet.I absolutely loved Russet. The meal was thoroughly enjoyable. And our wait staff was outstanding.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMThe menu is small but veryThe menu is small but very interesting. Everything we ate was delicious. Excellent waitress.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMi find Russet to be very welcomingi find Russet to be very welcoming and comfortable with superior service and food. at brunch we had a blueberry pancake prepared uniquely and without syrup, as well as, diver scallops on toast points with broccoli rabe. Both were interesting, different and good. Also, the coffee is good and robust.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Sunday Brunch!Brought Mom for a birthday brunch. Delicious food, great service, and unhurried, welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommended!4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a wonderful diningWe had a wonderful dining experience. We definitely will be back.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, knowledgeableGreat food, knowledgeable and friendly staff - a new favorite Philly restaurant!4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMThis restaurant was awesome! This restaurant was awesome! We called ahead to see what fish was on the menu as we do not eat many fish and the other entrees were limiting to our tastes. They had branzino and were happy to hold it for us! When we arrived, branzino was no longer on the menu. We were a bit worried and asked about it and said they saved it for us and took it off the menu for the public since they sold out! This was extra nice and impressed us! The food was excellent. branzino was best I have had in city, and 3 pasta dishes were excellent as well. Would definitely come back!4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat. Meal. Menu changesGreat. Meal. Menu changes daily. Can't wai t to come back4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is a tale of two dinners. This is a tale of two dinners. I loved mine; my husband was extremely disappointed. The service was top notch: each server was pleasant, helpful and knowledgeable, and eager to make our evening perfect. The small selection of appetizers and entrees were each well chosen and seemed well prepared. My husband ordered the duck as an entree; it was promised to be very tender and delicious. It was tough and cold (very rare, so much so that it wasn't even warm). The servers quickly replaced it with a menu, and he ordered a more acceptable dish, but by the time it arrived, I had eaten every morsel of my delicious lamb.
I loved this restaurant, even though it was so noisy! But my husband refuses to return.
Go and see for yourself. Worth a t4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMThe full experiencePerfectly prepared dishes and very nice servers. They didn't bat an eye when I accidentally set a napkin on fire; even threw out a few cool one liners. Go for a romantic walk after dinner in one of the most exciting Philly neighborhoods. One of our new favorite spots.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMSmall menu selection in generalSmall menu selection in general and very limited for vegetarians. While nice we will not be going back.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMAll courses - beets and stingingAll courses - beets and stinging nettle/tomato pudding - goat/bean ragu and scallops - chocolate budino were very fine.
Good service - comfortable dining room.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMI can't say enough about theI can't say enough about the total experience. I will be going back many more times.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat center city byob very, great center city byob
very, very convenient for Kimmel center and Ave. of the Arts3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely, cozy redone row houseLovely, cozy redone row house with a larger group room, apparently, in the back. While the prices are a step up from most good restaurants, the ingredients and quality of the offerings is outstanding. The menu changes daily, depending on market availability, which is also good. I give Russet high grades.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMMust try!Must try! All dishes were an intriguing and out-of-the ordinary concert of ingredients and flavors. Portions are modest, but the payoff in savory mouthfuls trumps all. This is the kind of place that people who treasure loving prepared locally grown food seek and support.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMgormet row home cookingVery charming, Will be returning in near future with my husband. so many great dishes.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing food AND BYOBHave gone here for dinner and brunch and they have both been outstanding. As the chef is famous for his charcuterie, they even make their own bacon! Definitely a wonderful byob find.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding serviceWonder changing w/the seasons menu. Limited menu but should satisfy all tastes/needs. Like the fact that menu is updated daily. Crisp service that is attentive without hovering. Overall outstanding service that is some of the best in the city. Think that appetizers and entrees may be a couple dollars overpriced. Nice atmosphere, rather upscale.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was delicious. AppetizersThe food was delicious. Appetizers were a bit on the small side.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a really wonderfulWe had a really wonderful meal. Everything was fresh, interesting and well prepared.
The front room is small but there is a very nice back room that is great for larger parties.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMA great farm-to-table find.A great farm-to-table find. They really take the concept seriously. The food was excellent and they seem to really "get" what the whole farm-to-fork local movement. I would definitely go back.3/5/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely neighborhood BYOB.Lovely neighborhood BYOB. A nice touch with seafood and mushrooms.3/2/2013 12:00:00 AMOur first visit to RussetOur first visit to Russet just prior to their first anniversary was memorable! What beautiful space and so perfectly decorated. Our server, Oscar, was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and the local sourcing that is a large part of what Russet offers. Although the menu is not lengthy, the care that appears to go into each dish is noticeable. The branzino was perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. The duck breast was also outstanding and in praise of the most amazing side dish ever, the braised wedge of cabbage is something we would love to recreate at home. We broke our own rule of sharing a dessert and shared two... The pumpkin ice cream was awesome as was the chestnut cake. A return visit is on our list!2/3/2013 12:00:00 AMReasonable, creative BYOB.Reasonable, creative BYOB.
