A word from Rural Society
Rural Society is a contemporary Argentine steakhouse from nationally renowned master of Latin cuisine Chef Jose Garces. Inspired by his travels to South America, Rural Society is at once rustic and luxurious, bringing the energy and sophistication of Buenos Aires to Washington. Our menu and primarily South American wine list, combined with our warm hospitality and welcoming décor, transport you far from the bustle of the District to the sweeping cattle ranches and grill-fired kitchens of Argentina.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Had amazing cuts of Uruguayan and Argentine steak. Ribeye and Skirt Steak. Seriously amazing. The service was bad. We waited for 5 minutes without water or anything before anyone ever came to the table to say hello. Our waters were left unfilled throughout the meal and I had to ask the passing host for a dessert menu because the waiter forgot about us at the end. The espresso wasn't good AT ALL, but the one thing that came quickly and left quickly was the check. He took it away even before we finished our coffee. Come for the steak, leave at the service."

  • "The remodel from the Federalist is the only good thing about this place. The service was terrible - dropping parts of the asado mixto on the floor and then never doing anything about it, bringing food to the wrong tables multiple times, cold entrees after we had to ask the waiter about the 30 min delay, serving utensils mysteriously brought to the table then removed 20 min later for no reason. The food itself was mediocre at best. The meats were grainy, especially the sausages. Blood sausage basically inedible. Provolone salad was actually queso fundido... Ribeye was hugely over salted. Chimichurri flavorless. Save yourself the disappointment and just get some jerky at CVS."

  • "Great Chorizo sandwich with grilled fresh tomato and roll. The sausage was not greasy and had just the right amount of spice. The desserts where to die for!"

  • "Menu needs more non-meat items. Argentines eat a lot of meat but they need to diversify here. Went 2 nights in a row. Hope they make it. We have lots of steakhouses in our country."

  • "The food was great and the prices were great for what you get. We even got 2 free dishes because our food too a little bit longer than they said. I truly enjoyed my night there and so did my date."

  • "It takes all of 5 seconds to forget that you're in a hotel, although a quick look at the menu will remind you briefly when you see the required burger. Not that that's a bad thing, but I doubt it would show up if the restaurant were to be a stand alone. Check out the rest of the menu and you're transported to "I want to try it all" land. And you should, although not all at once. My dining companion and I ordered too many plates and were only sad that we couldn't finish every bite. Explore, try something new. It was all worth it."

  • "Rural Society is a welcome addition to the DC dining scene. Food is excellent, love the beef belly pastries, and the happy hour is lively. Looking forward to many return trips, particularly good for lunch meetings for those in the neighborhood."

  • "A great spot for drinks and for dinner. Beautiful dining room and very attentive staff. The Parrilla is a work of art. Be sure to order from the grilled items section. Short ribs and asado mixto were delicious. The carpaccio de pulpo appetizer is a must order - paper thin slices of octopus with malbec chips. Also, best flan in the city. So good we ordered it twice!"

  • "I took my parents here as a thank you for helping me move, and we decided to go crazy and try a variety of things. We were in a little section that had a table off from the rest of the main area and loved the privacy. The food was absolutely amazing and I think the worst thing we said about a dish was that it was just "good." But there were several dishes that could be listed among some of the greatest dishes we've ever tried. The carrots were out of this world, and the pizza we got was was absolutely divine. A little expensive to make it a frequent stop, but this is going onto the top of my list for special occasions!"

  • "Maybe our best DC dining experience this year! A needed Philly import. Quiet summer Sunday night. Nicely designed, multiple seating options; bar, porch, main dining room, and very special private niche tables. Service professional, appropriately friendly, on the spot. A pleasure! Waiter explained dishes, drinks as needed and briefly. Cocktail/wine list were fab. Nice pacing to the meal; 4 people shared 3 starters, very good bread/spreads, 2 pasta small plates (actually VERY large), 3 sides, 2 orders excellent rib eye and 2 desserts. LOTS of food, fine doggie bag next day. All great; standouts of steak, roasted peppers, roasted mushrooms. Cannot go wrong with food off that magnificent grill. Go now when you can still get a reservation!"

  • "This is the best steak I've had in dc. All of the other tapas: chorizo, empanadas etc were also wonderful! Will definitely go back."

  • "Great food, great ambiance, but the service has a long ways to go. Took extremely long to get our food, appetizers were staggered, and the table side meat carving, while a nice gimmick, proved clunky and inefficient."

  • "First time having dinner here, and it was excellent. The sausage platter appetizer was excellent, and the picanha was melt in your mouth perfection. The flan is absolutely worth getting for dessert - smoky and flavorful."

  • "We ate here a little over a week after the restaurant opened. It's a lovely restaurant, although as a short person, I found the chairs pretty uncomfortable -- too high off the ground. We got our cocktails and appetizers in pretty short order, but then waited about 45 minutes to an hour for our other dishes. The waiter was apologetic but seemed unable to move things along. We spoke to the manager, who was very apologetic and accommodating, and ended up comping most of our meal, which was really the only right thing to do. We asked what had happened, he said our ticket got buried among a slew of new tickets. Which of course is not acceptable kitchen management. The comping was appropriate, though."

  • " This Argentinian gem was just the place. Everytime we try someplace new it is a disaster at first, then after time works the kinks out and is pretty decent. This place is spot on in every way. Looks good, service fantastic, food fabulous, better than we ever expected, attention to detail all evening. We were there three and one half hours and eating all that time. We had charcuterie, empanada tucamana, bresaola, picana, pomplona, sorrentino, setas, one order of nury that was sooooo good we ordered another right away, chocotorta, 2 bottles of B. Vincent Delapo,Sancerre Wine, assorted cocktails. We had a great time, and our server Alex was the best- no glitches, no delays, no sending back food. We can not wait to go again."

  • "Great attention to detail in all the foods. Seasonings in individual dishes are complimentary when eaten together. Very attentive, informed waiter and staff. Will definitely return."

  • "Anyone from Philly will tell you that Garces has filled the city with numerous places to have fun, amazing meals with friends and family. I could not be happier that he chose DC to open a new restaurant. The place is unlike any other in the city and has an awesome hearty vibe that resonates throughout the place and menu. Everything we tried was delicious with the homemade chorizo being at the top of our list. Perfect place for a full meal or a drink/app after work. Cant wait to go back again!"
