I always like Rumba. I had the carribean nachos, which were really good, but I think they overdid it on the salt. A couple hours after I went to bed, I woke up completely parched, and had to drink a big glass of water. Otherwise, drinks and service were great.

Rumba is consistently good, but apparently they will have to close as they have lost their lease. The West End area can demand high rent and the big chains are about the only ones able to pay that amount. It is too bad as Rumba has been there over 10 years, is well run, good food at reasonable prices. I hope they can find another location and continue to operate. I encourage everyone to support local small business owners.

Rumba was a nice experience but overall, felt it was a bit pricey for the food and the mojitos (claim to fame) were average. Fun for a change of pace but likely won't be going back.

Ryan, our server was well versed on the menu choices as well as being enthusiastic in her descriptions. We did several small plates. The mussels were among the best I've ever had. The scallops were delicious. We tried the Pork and Peas on Ryan's recommendation and she was absolutely correct in the presentation and combination of flavors and textures. It was not a dish we would have ordered but we're really glad we had it. The "Flower Pot" was unremarkable after all the other wonderful plates. We splurged on the Tres Lache cake and were glad we did. Great food, amazing service, a little loud but nice ambiance.

  • My wife and I love small plate
    OpenTable Diner Since 2012
    Dined on 7/19/2012
My wife and I love small plate dining, so while in Nashville (we're from Wisconsin) we looked for a nice small plate restaurant for our anniversary dinner. Rumba's menu and drink list looked pretty solid, so we made the reservation. Overall, we found the place to be very average. Some of the plates seemed to be priced appropriately for their portion size, while others were a bit pricey. The food itself was also average. Nothing was bad about it, but every dish seemed to be missing something. I never got that "I can't believe I'm eating this!" feeling that I look for in small plate dining. So, Rumba was fine, but not really appropriate for our anniversary. It was loud and the waitress, though very nice, was too busy.

  • Rumba was not exactly what
    OpenTable Diner Since 2009
    Dined on 5/1/2012
Rumba was not exactly what we expected. We heard rave reviews about how "hip" it was and our experience wasn't in-line with that. The food was DELISH! We had some scrumptious appetizers, notably the flat bread with honey and bacon. They offer a funky drink list and the service was mellow but attentive. The vibe was dull the night we went, in fact, at 7:30 p.m. on a Thursday we were 2 of maybe 10 people at the whole establishment. I think it's a great place for drinks and apps and to kick the night off.

The food was nothing to write home about and the seating, decor and ambiance was terrible. The seating seriously left me hurting. I could barely see anything because the lack of lighting and it was sooo loud I couldn't hear my husband. We try new places all the time and this was for our wedding anniversary. We will not be returning.

The food fit the bill for what one would expect for Latin food. I thought the appetizers were okay, but was disappointed that the special oven that they cooked the flat bread in was down the night we tried this place out for the first time. The service was decent, but thought is was ridiculous that when we ordered the drink at 6:03, they wouldn't let our drink fall under "Happy Hour", which ran from 4-6. Everyone at the table tried a bite of the different entrees' and thought those were exceptional. The catch of the day as well as the Shrimp Marsala were cooked to perfection!

Sunday is half-price bottle of wine night, so that was a good start... But the server took what seemed like forever between visits to our table. A long wait between water and wine, between wine and food, and ESPECIALLY when trying to get the check. But, she was very friendly. The food was just OK- interesting, exciting menu w/ some cool sounding drinks. The Chorizo Burger was quite good, the Spring Roll Quesadillas- not very good- just tasted like undercooked breading. The nachos were OK, too much cheese but would have been much better w/ less cheese.

See review from the previous night. The Fried Artichoke was as great a dish on the 2nd night as it was on the 1st visit. Things were more uneven on our second visit, on a Monday night: the different courses came out all at once, and the black bean soup was disappointing (more of a garnish of black beans in a cilantro soup base; not bad, but should be re-named and described better).

Our first visit Sunday night, was so excellent we came back Monday. My husband had an excellent pork loin, and a deliciously-rich Madagascar Vanilla ice cream. My vegetarian selections would satisfy any veggie-loving omnivore: the Fried Artichoke is mind-blowing (I had it both nights!), with excellent sides of corn-edamame salad and kale. Unfortunately on Monday, the Black Bean Soup was VERY disappointing (more cilantro soup with some black beans in it) and barely warm. We ordered our food as two courses, but it came out all at once (awkward). We did object, sent two things back to stay warm, and they came back just fine. Satays and mussels excellent, but $2 for extra flatbread to soak up sauces. The Dexter Morgan cocktail is to die for!

This place was so horribly noisy we couldn't talk without yelling. And our server "doesn't make change" so we were shorted $.78 on the change we were due. Hey business owner - if you're not going to make change, you should err in favor of the CUSTOMER, not the wait staff. Bad experience.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2012
    Dined on 2/24/2012
The initial feel of the restaurant was very impressive. It had a nice relaxed but elegant feel. However, the food was a bit lacking and didn't live up to the potential of the restaurant. We ordered a few small plates to split, and let's just say they weren't kidding when they said small. A bit overpriced for what you get even though the food was presented well. Overall I'm glad that we tried the restaurant for the experience but I don't think I will be back.

My wife & I are really happy to have discovered Rumba. The unique food pairings & seasonings are just fantastic. They really did an outstanding job pushing the culinary edge, while still serving solid dishes. The only negative, is that they could use a little better quality meats-the scallops were a bit 'fishier', and the pork a bit 'fattier' than we would have liked. However, with the vibrant flavors, these shortcomings were hard to notice. The atmosphere was a little on the trendy side, but still pleasant. The server was extremely knowledgeable (I questioned her extensively about the food). My wife enjoyed the cocktails she ordered, but they are all have at least some sweetness to them (I don't like sweet-but I'm more a scotch guy).

It was very dark inside, but the food was decent. Everything came out of the kitchen extremely fast which actually made it hard to eat a bunch of small plates fast enough to keep them hot. If the server asks, have them brought out in succession. Otherwise no complaints. Very tasty!

I'm probably the worst person to give a review. I'm known as a picky eater, but this place was really good. My fiance and some of her family ordered a bunch of small plates and turned out to be great! The ambiance is great and appeared to be a good place for the younger adults to hang out. Our waiter was MIA for the majority of the night, but the quality of food neutralized our concerns. I would definetly recommend buying a few small plates if you have a group and that way you get a variety to choose from.

The drinks, above all else, were the standout part of the Rumba experience. Well crafted, unique, and strong! We got a number of interesting and diverse small plates to share--I would definitely recommend the tempura haricots verts, the hot pot, and the mussels! The food is a fusion of ethnic and American tastes, allowing for a great variety of options that are exciting for an adventurous eater without being overwhelming for someone more conservative. Rumba is an excellent choice for catching up with an old friend over drinks, or getting a little bit of food before or after a show. The late night hours are great! Highly recommended.

Great experience! My friends and I went early because we were attending the symphony later in the evening. Service was excellent; we did not have to rush through our meals. We had the two different naans as an appetizer, and they were really wonderful, but quite different from a traditional Indian naan. I tried the smoky tommato grits (you have to like smoke) and the chicken satay. Both were done really well. My other two friends had the shrimp curry and rated them as excellent.
