It was my first time at the Rue
and it won't be my last. Food was excellent, the service was outstanding and the ambience was perfect. It's a great place to try different things that you normally wouldn't. I can't imagine anything on the menu that wouldn't come out tasting wonderful. And don't hesitate to ask for assistance in understanding the items on the menu. The maitre de was very kind and explained every appetizer and dinner item on the menu. Can't wait to go back and experience the Spring/Summer menu."

The Rue Franklin has been in
existence for many years. Change of ownership has maintained the high quality of food, service & ambience. Not many restaurants left that are like this. Would rate this the #1 fine dinning establishment in the Buffalo region & not that pricey for the quality of food as compared to others in the area. Also, during the warmer months, you can experience their beautiful patio which also may rank#1."

The food this time was just
average. The service was off-- my waiter brought my glass of wine about 5 minutes AFTER my entree arrived. The wine list offers a reasonably good selection, but they have very few wines by the glass (my waiter offered me a choice of a syrah and a pinot noir as their reds by the glass-- pathetic by any good French restaurant standards). It's pricey by Buffalo standards, and the food portions are modest, but for the most part adequate (salads are a bit skimpy, however-- especially when you're paying $10 for 50 cents' worth of veggies). The ambiance, however, is very elegant/romantic. This place has lost some of its charm for us compared to prior years."

New to Buffalo, this was a perfect
choice for ou Valentine's Day dinner! Food was great, in the traditional French style. My wife can't wait until Spring and Summer to see the beautiful garden side dining area."

What a lovely dinner we had at the
Rue Franklin, a restaurant I've been going to for 30 years. The bartender mixed a great drink, the waiter was friendly and funny, the service was good, and the food was delicious. The ambiance is romantic which is one of the best things about the Rue. I tried the tasting menu which was very good. The seviche was outstanding as well as the lamb chops. I also had the wine to accompany the tasting which I thought was spot on. Dessert was ok. It reminded me of a breakfast dish, not dessert, and the spinach souffle was very salty but those small details did not change the great meal. Overall we had a lovely time in a beautiful and very busy restaurant."

An absolutely wonderful dining
experience always !!!"

The service, ambiance and food
quality were superb. The entrees were portioned as appetizers. We are not "volume" diners but the amount of food we were served left us hungry. We continued to order a number of sides and appetizers until we were comfortable. One side was a cheese plate that was priced at $15.00. It contained five pieces of cheese that were each less than a square inch in size. Beverage costs were standard for this type of establishment except the venifera port which was $10.00 for 1 inch of wine in the glass. Two mixed drinks, 3 glasses of wine, 4 appetizers, 2 entrees, 2 desserts and 1 herbal tea came to over $230.00. With the tip, over $270.00. A memorable dining experience relative to the fare and also to the wallet."

My boyfriend and I went out for
his birthday. He had been told that the Rue Franklin would be a great fit to our tastes. We decided to give it a try. It was very quiet, the service was great. We wanted for nothing. The waitress was knowledgeable about the menu (that had only started the previous day) and helped me make a scrumptious choice. We sat in the terrace right at a window where we could look at the courtyard covered in snow and holiday lights. The meal pairings were spot on and had my boyfriend stealing my brussel sprouts (which he doesn't normally like). We would go back no questions asked."

My wife & I are foodies....the
food here is outstanding, similar or better than France. Don't expect massive portions of good food. The food here is perfectly proportioned and exquisite. A must for serious diners ."

This was my second time here in a
few years. Everything about Rue Franklin pleases. The space, the service (from the maitr'd down to the bread/water service) and ambience are quite pleasing. The food is really off the chart excellent, including dessert."

At my wife's suggestion, I booked
a table at the Rue Franklin for dinner before a concert at Shea's. We thoroughly enjoyed our Prix Fixe meal at a comfortable leisurely pace; having apprised the server of our plans, we were able to relax and enjoy dinner without thinking about the time, as she took care of that perfectly. We hadn't been to the restaurant in some time, and were delighted to find that everything is still of top quality, and even more reasonably priced than we had remembered. It won't be long before we're back."

Always a special occasion eating
at the Rue even if it's a prix fixe Tuesday for no special occasion. Everything is delicious and not only prepared with great care but plated and served beautifully without pretension. Have loved this place for 36 years of consistent perfection. And good to see a younger vibe here as well."

Wallet friendly wine list pairs
with excellent french fare. Service is most professional in the city of Buffalo. Wonderful special occasion, reminds me of a country restaurant in Loire."

had a most pleasurable evening in envy aspect."

We have been fans of Rue Franklin
for over 10 years. With every dining experience we seems to be always more than satisfied and never once have we been disappointed. Definitely would recommend."
Dined on 11/8/2013
We hadn't been here in a couple
years, and wondered what took us so long. It's always been a favorite for a special occasion. This was our first visit since it changed ownership, and we were pleased to see that the tradition continues - excellent food and service. Definitely on the pricey side for our usual dining out, but worth it!"

I dined with my daughter and it
was love at first bite. The food was remarkable in terms of seasonings and preparation and left us wanting more. Unfortunately we are from Phoenix, so there won't be any more. It was a memorable evening we will talk about for years to come, and we are privileged to have had such a delightful experience."

My husband and I decided to try
Rue Franklin when we were unable to get a reservation at any of our other favorites (Tempo, Leftbank, Hutch's). When we arrived we were told the garden was open for seating therefore more table available otherwise we would have not gotten a table here either! We are so glad we did... We sat in the garden room and have an amazing meal. We had simply delicious food, great service, and a great experience overall. Portions are very reasonable making it easy to save room for dessert. You will not be disappointed! It would be a special occasion place for us but definitely worth it. Dinner for 2 including wine, entrees, dessert, and coffee was about $200 with tax and tip."

The Rue Franklin has been one of
the outstanding restaurants in the area for decades. I'ts great to know that the new owners are keeping up the food quality and traditional great service. The seasonal menus present a a dining expeience like no other. The innovative dishes will keep you coming back. Although this visit was celebrating a special occasion, we come here throughout the year and are always delighted with the variations in the menu. It is a special place!!"

We celebrated our 10th anniversary
at the 'Rue' and while it Isn't the same owner, the food was just as good. The staff is professional, knowledgable and friendly Without being overbearing. Wonderful wine list. The big misconception is that the 'Rue' has an uptight Tie wearing, clientele . Couldn't be farther from the truth. There many different styles of dress, but most importantly People were having a good time. Like all good restaurants it isn't cheap but YOU make it As expensive as it can be."

Filet was cooked perfectly. My
wife had lobster and scallops, they were perfect and tasted outstanding. Great place to celebrate an anniversary or birthday or just enjoy an evening out. We will be back!"

Had a wonderful meal with my wife.
We are from out of town and were in search of a nice restaurant in Buffalo to celebrate my wife's birthday. Great menu - difficult to decide what to order as everything looked interesting. All elements of our dining experience were amazing and I highly recommend this restaurant. We have been to Paris several times and this restaurant made us feel like we were there again."
Dined on 9/25/2013
Very tasty food, but portions were
a bit small. Service and ambience were very good."

Had a wonderful dining experience.
Although always very good this was the best meal I've had at the Rue."
Dined on 9/21/2013
went there for a special birthday,
told that to the man who seated us, as he asked. Nothing special was done at all. Food had little to no taste, however the best part of the meal was the dessert, that was outstanding. Wouldn't recommend it, and sure wouldn't pay these prices again!"

This is an elegant little French
restaurant without an attitude. We sat in the back garden, which was perfect (except for a rather loud, pompous man at the next table). I had the octopus, which was good but a little tough, and the halibut with smoked shrimp, unique and very tasty. My friend had the crab and avocado timbale and the salmon, both of which he said were too good to share a taste. The wine list is impressive, well edited, and well priced. Our waiter was fabulous and knew the menu inside and out. (He saved me, a duck lover, from the magret de canard. I didn't realize magret was from a duck raised for fois gras and I take issue with the cruelty associated with producing it.) We had a very enjoyable evening here."

It was highly recommended by
several buffalo natives to me as the best in town. I found it average almost sub par. Except for the service that was fair to good."

Already one of the best
restaurants (if not THE best) in Buffalo, the new ownership (Cory and Cheryl Kley) has made a good thing even better. Departing from the very traditional French-American and, sometimes, Moroccan cuisine, Classically trained chef-owner Cory Kley has begun to experiment with dishes of his own creation. New and exciting combinations of flavors and textures have started to appear on the seasonal menus and on the prix-fixe offerings. All Rue Franklin dishes are carefully prepared, beautifully plated and absolutely delicious. From the warm welcome to the cozy bar to the dining room, Rue Franklin rates with the fine restaurants of new York and Paris."

hospitality was terrific, the garden beautiful , the wine selection fantastic and the food perfect"

I was in Buffalo for meetings and
several of us went to Rue Franklin. It was a very nice experience. I had a correctly dressed salad, with grilled swordfish, and a lemon dessert. The wine was excellent. I would highly recommend this to anybody visiting Buffalo. I will return if I am in Buffalo again."

The change in ownership has made
it even better. He recently purchased new Riedel glassware for wine service. The ambiance is romantic and the service is excellent. The chef has traveled to Europe to keep the cuisine up to date. One of Buffalo's best restaurants."
Dined on 7/12/2013
We just returned from Paris,
Germany, and Lake Como in Italy. We have been to Europe about 40 times and travelled elsewhere extensively. The dinner at Rue Franklin on their garden patio was the best dining experience that we have had in years - and I mean years, any where in the world. This was one outstanding experience and I mean experience. It was a perfect evening. Everything was perfect. We have been to Paris many times and we never had a dining experience like this. You have to be crazy to not take advantage of their prix fixe menu during the week."
Dined on 7/10/2013
One of the best places to eat in
western New York. Good for occasions or just for a consistantly wonderful meal. The chef bought it from the original owners about a year ago. Been going there for 36 years and it stays new and fresh."

Reservation at 6:00, needed to go
to the theater by 7:30. Finally received main course at 7:07 Other patrons who arrived after us we already leaving as we received our entrees. Asked for an explanation but none was given."

We had been to several of the top
recommended restaurants in Buffalo as part of a long weekend celebration of my wife's birthday. We saved Rue Franklin for last since it was recommended by a friend who really knows good food. It was spectacular! Everything about the restaurant invited you to relax and enjoy your evening. No rushing, no kids, a tranquil garden terrace and food that surprised with every mouthful. Our waiter was experienced, took time to make sure we understood all that was available and made lovely recommendations once he knew what we liked. The wine list was impressive and reasonable. A lovely way to end a gastronomic tour of Buffalo."
Dined on 6/5/2013
We went to Rue Franklin for our
anniversary, as we often do. We sat in the beautiful garden on what turned out to be a perfect night. I had smoked duck breast salad for an appetizer and soft-shell crab in a lemon sauce with vegetables for a main course, with a molten chocolate cake with mint ice cream for dessert. All were lovely, as was the bread that accompanied the meal. The portions were the perfect size to allow me to have all three courses plus the bread without feeling overwhelmed. (I'm so grateful to get a meal where the food isn't heaped up in gigantic piles that seem calculated to keep the average weight of Buffalonians well over 250 lb. More is NOT better!)"
Dined on 5/31/2013
Overall underwhelming. I'm not
sure if they are resting on their previously earned laurels or have just re-positioned with no intent to be a fine dining destination. Everything was okay, but not in line with previous experience (before the ownership change) or their reputation. Server seemed unsure and lacking knowledge and experience. Wine list was surprisingly short. Food was okay but unmemorable."
Dined on 5/11/2013
My husband and I had an excellent
dinner at the Rue Franklin. The service was prompt, friendly and professional. From appetizers to dessert, everything was outstanding. My dish (sole with scallops) was light and flavorful. Husband's filet mignon was perfectly prepared and in his words "seemed to get better with each bite". I have wanted to try this restaurant for years and was not disappointed. We will be back."
Dined on 5/11/2013
Portion size was smaller than area
fine dining restaurants. Our waiter was not friendly and never asked how our meal was. After being there over an hour, yes we had reservations, we only had an appetizer. The Matre de and the coat check were very friendly and welcoming. We were disappointed overall. I oordered the fillet and it was cooked perfectly but only came with a very small portion of potatoes that had no flavor and seemed boiled. Although our reservation was at 6pm we had no time for dessert because we never finished our entrees until 7:45 and had a show to see at 8pm. I told them of the show when we arrived."
