A word from Rue Dumaine
Chef Anne Kearney and Tom Sand Jr., co-proprietors, welcome you to their home! We have created a unique atmosphere where you can celebrate the good things in life, and put your cares on hold for a few hours. The décor has been created with many French bistro elements. Rue Dumaine specializes in an Americanized version of classic French flavors. Come savor duck rillette crepes, or indulge in crispy Herb de Provence frog legs, or a robust serving of Cabernet braised short ribs. Chef Anne is passionate about local ingredients such as honey, organic eggs, and all-natural chicken from Ed Hill’s farm in Xenia. Only the best artisan cheeses, gelato, vegetables and breads are brought in; everything else is prepared in-house. Menus change seasonally to accommodate fresh produce and seasonal specialties from local suppliers. The wine room is stocked with “wines from around the world” chosen from boutique wineries that exhibit “attention to detail” in all aspects of their winemaking process.Continued

Desserts of blueberry buckle (cobbler-ish) and tapioca pudding were a real treat. They were out of the wine we selected and offered to upsell with a mark down of about 20% from the menu price, which was more than fair and delicious."

  • "Despite all the positive review we read we were disappointed with the food preparation. Service however was very good. My wife ordered a "hanging" steak that was overcooked (burnt) and had a peculiar "fishy" taste to it - as if it was cooked in some fish oil. The fries were also too greasy. Finally, the dessert was something akin to a Sara Lee cake, and overpriced. We had anticipated a great evening dining out, and it was anything but. Hopefully our experience is the one regrettable exception to what everyone else has reported. We didn't complain to the staff - we just wanted to leave."

Chef Anne Kearney delights in using locally grown vegetables, meats and poultry when ever possible and then adds her own inventive twist to both prep and presentation. This trip was no exception. My husband and I shared a small plate of flash fried blue point oysters garnished with parsley and a house-made remoulade - absolutely DIVINE! This could be a large plate as far as we're concerned…. I had the day's special of chicken quarters with polenta and garlic spinach, while my husband enjoyed his hanger steak with twice fried pomme frite. Both were perfectly prepared and delicious. We were certainly tempted by other offerings - short ribs, lamb loin- next time!"

  • "Don't be put off by the strip mall location. This is exquisite food beautifully presented by attentive yet unobtrusive wait staff. The lamb and creme brulee were the best we have ever had. I can hardly believe such a fine restaurant exists right here in the Miami Valley. Check out their website for daily specials based on fresh, locally sourced produce and meat and you will wish you could eat there every day. Reasonably priced too for such quality. Dinner for two, including one of their fabulous cocktails, 2 glasses of wine and a shared dessert totaled $100."

We lived in Southern France a few years ago, and happy to find a restaurant in the area that caters to Provencal food in Dayton. The owner came out and talked to us a bit, which was nice. The mussels and french fries was more than enough food for my meal. My husband enjoyed his chicken livers. I loved the lemon almond cake too! We will definitely be returning to this restaurant in the near future."

  • "My wife and I went to Rue Dumaine for our anniversary dinner. She was not familiar with the restaurant, so I knew that it would be a nice place for us to experience something new. She had the boar sausage and I had the grouper. Both meals were very tasty. Service was top-notch; staff was extremely pleasant and friendly. The restaurant was quiet when we arrived. Through the course of our dinner many more people arrived, but the ambiance was comfortable and relaxing. It was a very nice dining experience."

Found this place near our hotel, on OpenTable, and made a reservation weeks in advance. Wow, I could not have done better. This French restaurant is awesome, even though located in a shopping center. We had appetizer, entrees and dessert, and everything was exquisite. Service was excellent also, and the hostess helped me find the place when my GPS was trying to take me the wrong way...Go here for your next special night out, Dayton!"
