A word from Rue Dumaine
Chef Anne Kearney and Tom Sand Jr., co-proprietors, welcome you to their home! We have created a unique atmosphere where you can celebrate the good things in life, and put your cares on hold for a few hours. The décor has been created with many French bistro elements. Rue Dumaine specializes in an Americanized version of classic French flavors. Come savor duck rillette crepes, or indulge in crispy Herb de Provence frog legs, or a robust serving of Cabernet braised short ribs. Chef Anne is passionate about local ingredients such as honey, organic eggs, and all-natural chicken from Ed Hill’s farm in Xenia. Only the best artisan cheeses, gelato, vegetables and breads are brought in; everything else is prepared in-house. Menus change seasonally to accommodate fresh produce and seasonal specialties from local suppliers. The wine room is stocked with “wines from around the world” chosen from boutique wineries that exhibit “attention to detail” in all aspects of their winemaking process.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "This is my absolute favorite restaurant in the Dayton region. If you're ever in the area, this one is not to be missed! Great for foodies with a very pleasant staff throughout."

  • "The food was excellent. The service was tremendous. We will go back again in the future."

  • "Sumptuous food served by customer focused staff at 2/3s of what you would expect to pay. In addition to an authentic mixologist behind the bar."

  • "From the moment you get sitted till you leave is a remarkable dining experience. Not just a meal but a culinary delight. Every dish was amazing and the service from our waitress Candice was outstanding. I love the fact they have an open kitchen and can watch the chefs at work. A major bonus is that they serve local produce and meats. We loved it so much we went again that week. Now one of my favorite restaurants."

  • "Despite all the positive review we read we were disappointed with the food preparation. Service however was very good. My wife ordered a "hanging" steak that was overcooked (burnt) and had a peculiar "fishy" taste to it - as if it was cooked in some fish oil. The fries were also too greasy. Finally, the dessert was something akin to a Sara Lee cake, and overpriced. We had anticipated a great evening dining out, and it was anything but. Hopefully our experience is the one regrettable exception to what everyone else has reported. We didn't complain to the staff - we just wanted to leave."

  • "For those who like to savor textures, aromas, flavors, and plating, I would recommend no other restaurant I'm Dayton before Rue Dumaine. Everything from the complementary taster starter to the coffee was impeccable. I would love to dine here every week if cost was no concern."

  • "We celebrated our anniversary at Rue Dumaine. Food was very good and service terrific. Not anything special in ambience...I mean how can you be located in a strip center? All that being said...enjoyed the experience and will return."

  • "Best dining in southwest Ohio, Chef Anne makes it personal with visits to her guests tables, Evan is amazing bartender ( try and stump him). Great attention to detail from fresh and local ingredients to preparation and sauces to picturesque plating. A culinary MUST when visiting Dayton."

  • "We eat at Rue Dumaine since this is a wonderful place to eat! This is the BEST place in the Dayton area."

  • "We have been to this restaurant many times and keep going back! Chef Anne Kearney delights in using locally grown vegetables, meats and poultry when ever possible and then adds her own inventive twist to both prep and presentation. This trip was no exception. My husband and I shared a small plate of flash fried blue point oysters garnished with parsley and a house-made remoulade - absolutely DIVINE! This could be a large plate as far as we're concerned…. I had the day's special of chicken quarters with polenta and garlic spinach, while my husband enjoyed his hanger steak with twice fried pomme frite. Both were perfectly prepared and delicious. We were certainly tempted by other offerings - short ribs, lamb loin- next time!"

  • "We have been visiting Rue Dumaine since they opened. The food is wonderful. Chef Anne Kearny always has creative (and delicious) specials. The lemon cake is a wonderful way to end, although the ice creams and sorbets are amazing as well. We highly recommend Rue Dumaine."

  • "We celebrated our wedding anniversary here. The food was absolutely fabulous. The staff was friendly and professional and the restaurant was full and vibrant. At one point I turned and told my wife, 'this place could be in New Orleans.' Then I went to the restroom and found on the wall that the chef/owner was mentored by Emeril and owned a restaurant in New Orleans. Well ..."

  • "I was born in Dayton, but hadn't returned there for decades until we went for a niece's graduation from UD. Found this place near our hotel, on OpenTable, and made a reservation weeks in advance. Wow, I could not have done better. This French restaurant is awesome, even though located in a shopping center. We had appetizer, entrees and dessert, and everything was exquisite. Service was excellent also, and the hostess helped me find the place when my GPS was trying to take me the wrong way...Go here for your next special night out, Dayton!"

  • "Phenomenal as always. Have never had a bad anything there. Best restaurant in Dayton in my opinion!!"

  • "I love Anne and her cooking. The food was spot on. Delicious foie gras, salmon, sweetbreads and tuna. The problem this Saturday night was service. Long waits between courses and had to beg for the check. Also, where's Tom?"

  • "Rue Dumaine is always a good place to eat. We're always impressed with the food and the service. Chef Anne rocks!"

  • "We have had some wonderful meals here, but this wasn't one of the best. I had the trout--this time it was way too rich for me (generous portion of pecans and lots of butter!). It just didn't seem as fresh as in the past. The house salad was good, and a generous portion. The best thing, though, was the personal service we received--it was terrific, and we will go back."

  • "I went for a special menu item; it was as good as expected. And Evan had a couple bottles of a very good Chablis."
    Dined on 5/23/2014
  • "I had the scallop appetizer which I have had on other occasions and this time the scallops were stringy and over seasoned with pepper. I was really disappointed. The person with me had the hanger steak which was very tender but undercooked, she requested medium and it was rare."

  • "This restaurant will not disappoint you, ever! The staff is consistent so they know you by name when you walk in. The owners are a wonderful husband and wife team and very involved with the community, a much loved couple! The menu is definitely fit for foodies, with new additions along side the favorites. You will not grow tired of your choices. In fact, you will not grow tired of this restaurant...you want to come back, often. Always a pleasure!"

  • "Don't be put off by the strip mall location. This is exquisite food beautifully presented by attentive yet unobtrusive wait staff. The lamb and creme brulee were the best we have ever had. I can hardly believe such a fine restaurant exists right here in the Miami Valley. Check out their website for daily specials based on fresh, locally sourced produce and meat and you will wish you could eat there every day. Reasonably priced too for such quality. Dinner for two, including one of their fabulous cocktails, 2 glasses of wine and a shared dessert totaled $100."

  • "Excellent meal for a special occasion. Brittania was an exceptional waitress and the owner should be complemented for recognizing our special event !"

  • "We celebrated my husband's birthday here the other night. The food was WONDERFUL! We lived in Southern France a few years ago, and happy to find a restaurant in the area that caters to Provencal food in Dayton. The owner came out and talked to us a bit, which was nice. The mussels and french fries was more than enough food for my meal. My husband enjoyed his chicken livers. I loved the lemon almond cake too! We will definitely be returning to this restaurant in the near future."

  • "My wife and I went to Rue Dumaine for our anniversary dinner. She was not familiar with the restaurant, so I knew that it would be a nice place for us to experience something new. She had the boar sausage and I had the grouper. Both meals were very tasty. Service was top-notch; staff was extremely pleasant and friendly. The restaurant was quiet when we arrived. Through the course of our dinner many more people arrived, but the ambiance was comfortable and relaxing. It was a very nice dining experience."

  • "We dine at Rue Dumaine at least once a month. We always have exceptional service and food! They have a wonderful regular menu that is seasonal. However, they also have awesome specials. Saturday, I enjoyed the grilled smoked duck - FANTASTIC. They always serve the best food in the area!"

  • "This restaurant has long been a favorite, but I rarely get to make it for lunch on Fridays (the only day they offer lunch service). What a tremendous value! I'll have to make a point of it more often."

  • "Food, service, wine all top notch. A fine place for a special occasion. I chose Rue Dumaine as a surprise dinner date and everything worked to perfection. "

  • "Rue Dumaine is one of Dayton's best restaurants. Anne Kearney does wonderful things in the kitchen, and her attention to detail is evident throughout the restaurant. "

  • "We arrived on a weeknight about 8:10 for our 8:00 reservations and, within a few minutes of being seated, more than half the tables had left. It was quiet. There was enough activity at the bar and were enough diners to avoid that lonely feeling of an empty restaurant. Best of all, there was no feeling that someone was waiting for the table. We were pampered with great food and drink that we enjoyed at a leisurely pace."

  • "Overall enjoyed the evening. House salad was quite enjoyable. Salmon was very good. Nice selective wine list."

  • "Our family went to Rue Dumaine to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary. We can't find enough superlatives to describe the entire experience. Service was very attentive and not intrusive. The menu offered great variety and everything we tried was 5 star delicious. Presentation was very appealing. Portion size was spot on. Salads were fresh flavorful and light. The salmon carpaccio was flavorful and tender. The wild mushrooms and waffle were a savory treat. My wife tried the hanger steak, my son the pheasant and I had the salmon. All were perfectly prepared. The brussel sprouts are a family favorite! We tried the mango sorbet and chocolate gelato for dessert. Both were spectacular. (Jenni's move over!!!) RD is a gem for South West Ohio."

  • "I always enjoy dining at Rue Dumaine. The food is excellent and prepared from local ingredients. The majority of the menu items are gluten free, and since most are made to order the chef is willing to modify items to meet dietary considerations."

  • "Best food in Ohio, creative and imaginative menu with amazing specials every night. Chef Anne uses local produce and makes it a delight to dine there."

  • "I think this restaurants is one of the better ones in the area. They chef comes to look over your food and see how you are doing. Water glasses are always filled. Decent wine list. My waiter wasn't great, unfortunately and ended up spending more time with other certain guests."

  • "I know this has been around for a handful of years now, but I just now made it to Rue Dumaine -- and wow, what a gem! I lived in DC for several years and believe RD is on par with many of the treats there. I will definitely recommend this to friends, family and business acquaintances."
