Diner Reviews
  • "Rue 57 was recommended to us and it was right on the money. Walking distance from our Central Park hotel. The food was excellent and the kitchen despite being a full house took the time to split both the kids and our meals which we were all sharing. Not a traditional fine dining location but a great "must repeat" Appropriate for all ages and tastes."

  • "I planned to come here because the weather was nice and outdoor seating was essential for me. I had the lobster hash and my darling ordered the breakfast burrito. Both plates were delicious. about $20 each but the portions were generous... neither of us finished our food. It was so tasty but we were full."

  • "Great food, amazing service and an atmosphere that is both romantic and confortable. Great for romantic occasions, important moments or casual eating. I proposed there and could not have asked for a better place to do it. One of the best places on New York!"

  • "Despiste we made a reservation we have to wait 25 minutes to be seated. Of course you can wait at the bar and pay a drink."

  • "The restaurant location is prime. The restaurant itself is beautiful. The menu has great variety. Every choice is delicious."

  • "Excellent choice when going to the Paris theater. Go early to avoid the noise and crowd. The special duck was great."

  • "We have eaten here twice and enjoyed birth times but this time there was a large and noisy party that could be heard all over the restaurant and management did nothing to address the situation. The noise was aggravated by the Lord and energetic music."

  • "Had a wonderful brunch with some college friends when visiting the city. The food was fabulous, loved the cherry blossoms in the vases...what a touch of spring!"

  • "Convenient to Carnegie Hall, City Center. The decor is lovely. The first floor is quite noisy, the lower floor less so. The service was superb. The waiter was charming, but not intrusive. Everything came quickly. The teabag was already in the teapot (a big plus). The food was fresh, but the cooking pedestrian. Not at all French, despite the name. Menu is somewhat limited. Also the $$ rating in Open Table is misleading; our bill for 2 was $90 before tip for: 1 glass of wine, 1 tea, 2 average entrees, 1 shared dessert. No bread was offered (!) There are so many other places in the neighborhood, I probably would not go back, but if I heard they'd improved the menu, I might."

  • "It's hard to find a reservation at restaurants in Manhattan for more than 5 people without going to a "monster" restaurant or a chain. Rue 57 not only accommodated our party of 6 but they gave us personal service that was amazing and the food and ambiance was nice and didn't feel like we were at a buffet in Las Vegas. I love it!"

  • "Service at this business class French hybrid spot on 6th & 57th is good. Sound level is loud so if you're trying to conduct business beware. Food is pricey. i ordered 'Chicken Piccatta" which was a few strips of flattened chicken breast with some kind of dark sauce , capers, mushrooms and roasted brussel sprouts...decent enough albeit salty. But the thing that ticked me off the most was the $7 'Pommes Frites'. For your $7 you get a cup full of limp, greasy fries. I don't know what part of France the cook is from but calling these Pommes Frites is like calling a McDonalds hamburger a real hamburger. Come to think of it McDonalds 'Pommes Frites' beat Rue 57's anyday!"

  • "We were able to have a delicious meal in an hour before going to a show at Carnegie Hall. The waitress was formal and asked us a little too much about bottled vs. tap water, but the overall experience was wonderful. They took us immediately with our reservation and we were able to have two courses in the limited time before our show (that was my fault - the show started earlier than I had anticipated). I had the french onion soup and the beet salad. The salad was intended as an appetizer, but was perfect for dinner after the copious portion of soup. My husband had the short rib sliders. He said they were wonderful. I can vouch for the fries they can with. Yummy! Upscale, but not over the top. We would come back."

  • "We used Rue 57 as a last minute lunch option and were very pleased. The food was amazing and I was especially pleased with the service (Jamie was the best!). We had appetizers, lunch, dessert and coffee and could not have left more satisfied."

  • "Went to dinner here a couple of times and each time the food has been excellent and this last time the server was exceptional! It was a Saturday night and it has a very active bar scene and there was a bit of noise. We were also seated close to the bar area but, I'm sure if you were seated in a different area it would be tolerable. Has a very good menu and the service was great. Would not recommend for very young tots in high chairs. Not enough room . Older children would be fine. They could share the overly generous sized sliders for sure! Overall, it is a great restaurant with great food and reasonable priced for NYC."

  • "I always order the Chilean Sea Bass. The dish is delicious. Its a healthy piece of glazed sea bass that sits on top of a bed of spinach and is surrounded by glazed carrots. Best dish here."

  • "We always enjoy our food and service is generally good, but this time my son ordered the pasta special, which was ice cold. We told our waitress, who told us to just leave it on the table and order something else. We assumed this meant she would not charge us for it. When the bill came however, the pasta (which we didn't finish) was on there. When we asked her about it, she feigned ignorance and did not offer to remove it. This put a damper on an otherwise great experience"

  • "Restaurant is 2 blocks from Carnegie, large space with average American type fare. Sound level is extreme by early evening and makes conversation very difficult. Service is uneven and food average with price tag for location. Go early as by 6 p.m. the place is packed with locals, business folks and tourists alike."

  • "We had steak and fish dishes and they were excellent. The service was outstanding. We were lucky our reservations put us downstairs because the noise level upstairs is high."

  • "I come here for business breakfasts or lunches. It's got a menu with something for everyone and has a slightly impressive feel to it. It's spendy, but not insane. And the waters are attentive w/out being overbearing at all."

  • "LOVED the meal..so tired of fussy, precious, pretentious dishes with incomprehensible ingredient combos..Rue is straightforward and delicious with generous portions. I have fantasies about the bread pudding, which we have dubbed "world class." I have been a regular at Rue for many years and love it every time. We had a friendly, funny excellent waiter. One disappointment : we were there on a Tuesday so no short ribs. The short ribs brought me and my friend to our knees a couple of weeks ago!"

  • "The food was really good and we did not have to wait very long for it. The server was good but I had to wait a while for a coffee refill and toward the end we felt that they were trying to rush us out. Overall though it was a good experience and I will try it again."

  • "Simply put, relatives were in town and needed a reservation for 11…where in NYC is this possible? Rue 57 didn't blink, it was great to have a downstairs table set up and we didn't need everyone there to start sitting down. Truly a great experience given the size of our reservation."

  • "The scallops came in a very rich, dark glazed sauce that was too salty and overpowered the delicate flavor of the scallops. The burgers were tasty, large and most people would probably like them, but even my husband who's an avid meat eater said they "sat" in his stomach. Along with the "frites" the meal was simply too rich. My mussels came in a Dijonnaise sauce that I too found to be a poor choice as the creaminess was too heavy and overpowered the flavor of the mussels. Although, most of the mussels were tiny, as tiny as 1/2 inch. In Brussels, where I am from, a chef wouldn't dream of putting mussels on the menu! Very nice ambience and the service very good."

  • "This has been a favorite place in the past…..this time waiter was overbearing - although service was fast; food was ok but not as good as expected. Had sliders, salad, pomme frites and chicken, sliders barely warm, chicken under seasoned."

  • "A block from Carnegie Hall, Rue 57 is a good place to go before or after a performance. Rue 57 is a solid, medium-priced French bistro, nicely appointed, and very popular. It's also a dependable midtown lunch choice. While a bit on the pricy side, the salads are plentiful and the burgers and crisp French Fries are really fantastic."

  • "I have had to go to NY several times over the last couple of weeks and I have been to Rue57 for lunch on a weekday and Brunch on Sunday and both times my guest (different each time) & I have had a great meal with great service. Both times I had reservation and when we arrived our tables were ready and we never had to wait."

  • "Very convenient to Carnegie Hall so we go there fairly regularly The last time it was late and we wanted something light. I had the onion soup and the beet salad. The soup was outstanding and the salad one of the best I've had My husband had the tomato and onion salad and the sliders. He loved both. Planning to go for brunch with a crowd since they have such a large and diverse menu!!! A perfect place any time of the day or night"

  • "It was cold outside. Very 2013-14 winter cold. My out-of-town friend and I met for breakfast at 9 am. We were given an excellent corner table. Quiet and warm! We had so much to talk about that we stayed for lunch. The restaurant was so gracious about our extreme usurping of their valuable real estate (and continued to ply us with coffee) that I hesitate to say anything negative. But, the sunny side eggs were a bit runny. Lunch--an excellent salad with grilled shrimp and a pepper jelly--more than made up for the eggs. As the restaurant filled up for lunch we had a harder time talking over the din, but we WERE able to hear each other. Overall, this is a classy place that knows how to treat its patrons well."

  • "One of the main reasons I liked this restaurant was its plentiful list of reasonably priced small plates or appetizers, which have recently gotten very pricey and there are fewer of them, I especially miss the wedge salad. Worse yet, as a French brasserie, for years it had a wonderful selection of wine by the glass, with half of the selections French wine of high quality for $10 or $11 per glass. Those are gone now and selections from places like Australia and Chile are $14 or more. I had to order a bottle, which used to be $40 or $42, and are now $55. I will not go as often in the future, but it's sad, I really liked this place."

  • "I love the open space here - great for a business lunch or a group of people because you don't feel packed in. The food is excellent and very fresh - there menu has plenty of options so anyone can find something here to eat. My only complaint was our service was a bit slow - but it was prime lunch hour, so it's understandable."

  • "Arrived early but were seated anyway. Server came right over & water was served. Waited a few minutes for drinks. I ordered chIcken Milanese and my husband had sushi. My chicken, good at best, was served approx 12 minutes before the sushi which made my hot meal room temp. Bad timing. I did comment that to the server who answered yeh well. We always have breakfast at Rue 57 and it's always wonderful. Found dinner to be a bit confusing. I would recommend for any meal but dinner."

  • "Dinner with friends, friendly greeting at the door from staff. Sat in the bar first for a drink - very surprised the bar tab couldn't be added to the meal total, pretty silly arrangement having clients pay twice under the same roof. Restaurant was crowded and seating space not generous, expect better at these prices. Best thing about the experience was the wine list, comprehensive but overpriced. Food was OK, really nothing special at all. General impression was one of being rushed, not a relaxing place to dine and the only thing French about the place is the name. The food was adequate only. $300 dollars plus tip was alot for 3 people plus earlier drinks but I suppose people will pay for the location which is quite good."
