A word from Rue 127
Located at 127 N. Carrollton Avenue on the Canal St. streetcar line, Rue 127 sits in the heart of historic Mid-City. We entertain from a renovated 19th century New Orleans style shotgun home.

Chef Ray Gruezke was born and raised in New Orleans. A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, Ray has worked in New York, Florida, and Baton Rouge. He recently returned to his hometown to work at Commanders Palace and as a sous chef at Le Foret working with Certified Master Chef James Corwell.

Desserts are created by Chef Joanna Palmer. Also a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, Joanna has served as a pastry chef for Commander's Palace and also worked at Cochon.

Rue 127 is a convenient stop centrally located between Downtown, the French Quarter, and City Park.

Diner Reviews
  • "The tables were really close together. I know this is very common throughout the city -- but when there are only 3 tables of people in the whole place -- maybe you shouldnt sit them all right next to each other. Wasnt really impressed with the food and the wait staff felt like they were moving in slow motion."

  • "Have dined there many times. The food is always wonderful!!"

  • "The food was wonderful, and all courses were equally well-received. Staff was friendly, and helpful. The Bill was incorrect, and then when resubmitted, was wrong again. Once we straightened that out, the night ended well. The place was clean, the place was cheerful. At the table next to us, some family had a kid who was out of control (read: Loud) and that kid should have been harnessed. Other than that - Bliss."

  • "Rue 127 is easy to pass up on busy Carrollton Ave. The little shotgun restaurant always hits above its weight. Small, yet open the actual floor plan is tiny. If tables are tight try the two outside. They will do in a pinch. The bar as you enter has very few stools, but is welcoming and creative. Wine list is well chosen but small. Servers know wines here. The food is imaginative, very high quality, and well served. I can truly say that I have not had a bad meal here. Don't pass up the gumbo, double cut pork chop, or the scallops. All three are destination dishes. Margarete is a good choice for servder if she is available."

  • "This is a wonderful restaurant. It is small and intimate. The staff is very welcoming and the food is fabulous. I had the duck gumbo and totally loved it. I also had the seared scallops which were cooked perfectly and melted in my mouth."

  • "After not dining at Rue 127 for a while I was delighted to find it better than ever. I introduced the restaurant to a friend and we spent a couple of hours over lunch enjoying the oyster starter and fish of the day, not to mention excellent wine. We were not hurried and got great service and suggestions from our wait staffer. My friend looks forward to returning, as do I. "

  • "As the cab approached Rue 127, I was nursing serious doubts about my choice. There's a tattoo parlor across the street, and nothing about the area says, "This is some great New Orleans eatin'." But stepping through the gate into the secluded courtyard, peeking into the well-appointed cafe, chatting with the excellent staff... Oh, and seeing the menu! Everything turned around. You'd never know it walking past, but Rue offered excellent food, excellent service, and a beautiful spot for relaxing far from the crowds of the French Quarter. A+."

  • "Very nice restaurant, nice interior decor, Food was excellent. Service was fair to good, could have used a little quicker service such as removing empty plates from appetizers , etc. sooner. Staff nice. "

  • "We were staying just outside the French Quarter and were picking restaurants within a walking distance. I heard about Rue 127 and at first did not want to get involved with cab rides. I am so GLAD I did. My husband and I were blown away with the menu selections, drink selections and restaurant decor. Everything was wonderful. You must go!!"

  • "This beautiful gem offers wonderful food in a charming, intimate setting. The offerings are varied and combine French and New Orleans cuisine in a style that is spot on. The wine list is also eclectic with representations that cover the globe. This was my 2nd time dining here and will return, especially if I want to avoid the chaos of a larger restaurant. "

  • "Best restaurant dining experience this year. If the roasted bone marrow appetizer is on the menu, you MUST order it! The taste is proof that vegetarianism is wrong! "

  • "We had one of our best food nights here while on honeymoon in New Orleans, but the service was lacking big time. The only person who was friendly was the hostess. Our waitress barely came to the table at all and when we asked for her opinion she came off standoffish. We saw her with other tables talking and helping but for some reason she gave us the cold shoulder."

  • "We changed our reservation several times and the hostess was very accommodating when we finally ended up with a group of 11. The food was fabulous. I had the bone marrow, the poached fish, and the Brussels's sprouts. All delicious. I think the favorite of the table ended up being the roasted chicken. There were smaller rooms for more private dining experience and a few outdoor tables as well. The overall experience was fabulous! I ended buying one of the paintings off the wall. "

  • "We had friends in town for JazzFest and decided a small, quiet spot (with awesome food) would be a nice change of pace from the crowds. Rue 127 delivered. Every dish at our table was a hit. And the restaurant was perfectly lively without being loud."

  • "Love the menu-mussels and pomfrites Delicious chicken and pork chop. The Waiters know the wine list and made a Super recommendation the Mettler petite Syrah. The olives were salty which is not the usual, they are normally perfect "

  • "Have only been here twice, but will definitely go again. Tiny little house nestled among big commercial buildings -- easy to drive right by and not notice it, but it's worth stopping. They don't do specials, but have a creative menu that rotates weekly (monthly?) with lots of good New Orleans staples (e.g. fried oyster salad) plus creative stuff from their excellent chef. Staff is a little solicitous (lots of "honeys" and "sweeties"), but not overly so. Great wine list too."

  • "If you don't already know about Rue 127 you would never find it, but it was so worth the search! It's in an old row house and the atmosphere is eclectic and vibrant. Not many tables, so make a reservation. Wait staff was friendly and attentive, food was amazing and prices were reasonable. Some of our favorites were the squash salad, Olive oil poached mahi mahi and the deep fried cupcakes. All were divine! They also had unique cocktails and an above average wine list. If I'm ever in New Orleans again, Rue 127 will definitely be on my list."

  • "We set out to try somewhere new and took some out of towners here at the same time hoping for the best and Rue 127 stepped up to the challenge. Everything was very good and we all enjoyed the excellent food. Service was very good, and standard/expected for this type of place. It is a bit on the pricey side, and that's why I knocked off a star on the overall."

  • "As soon as you walk into the converted shotgun house that contains Rue 127, you see that it's a special place. The restaurant has a cozy and colorful ambiance, with a wonderful touch in the paintings of New Orleans houses that bedeck the walls. The food is very, very good as well - a friend of ours from New England commented that the spaghetti vongole was one of the best she'd ever had, despite that being a very traditional New England dish! We also greatly enjoyed the gumbo and the Atlantic cod. We're looking forward to returning as the menu changes and trying more. The cocktail menu is also highly innovative, employing multiple house-made liqueurs."

  • "This tiny shot gun has a great chef, that has surrounded himself with a great kitchen and service staff. We shared the generous mussel appetizer. For entrees we had pork chop and roasted chicken. Both were excellent with top notch sides including the best brussell spouts I have ever eaten. We did not finish our entrees to leave room for the apple crisp dessert. We left with enough carry out for another full meal. We sat in front of the kitchen widow and had a great view of the food magic. Our waitperson, Katie, was great. She was very knowledgeable about wine and food. What a great place and you don't have to go to the French Quarters or Garden District to enjoy the best of NOLA. This place is a must try for foodies."
