Diner Reviews
  • "Went with a family group to celebrate a sister's birthday. Ribs are still fantastic - have eaten at Rudolph's since the 70's. And the coleslaw...!"

  • "We are from out if town and live KC BBQ. Rudolph's had wonderful STL and baby back ribs. Their corn bread was fantastic. Definitely recommend. Went with group of 7. Fast service. Friendly waiter. Great kids meal options and very affordable."

  • "Food was as good as it always is. For a Friday evening, the crowd was light. Too bad because it is indeed a neighborhood gem."

  • "We always have a great time here. The ribs, chicken wings and chicken were perfect, service attentive and parking was a breeze."

  • "Plus side: the food and drinks were good. Negative side: Service was bad!! We went to celebrate a birthday and were seated right away (bonus) next to two groups each consisting of 12 loud high school girls and their moms (negative). Some of our food was dropped on the floor by the waitstaff without any apology; when asked which bourbon the bartenders suggested the waitress didn't tell us until we asked again; the flight of beers were good - just remember what you order because the waitress won't tell you; the birthday we were celebrating wasn't recognized what-so-ever; the waitress boxed everyone's dinner but one person before clearing the table; if using a coupon read the fine print THAT ISN'T THERE - only one coupon per table."

  • "While our wait person was very pleasant, the service was terrible. It was not her fault. It was Father's Day and the kitchen should have been prepared for the number of dinners. We waited at least 45 minutes for our food. It would have been nice if a manager had at least come over to apologize but no one did. We had two young boys with us and it made the wait that much worse. I would certainly not go there again on a holiday""

  • "This is the second time that we've ate at Rudolph's and both times the BBQ that we ordered was lukewarm or even cold. The food is good, but would be even better served HOT!"

  • "We brought our grandson there from WI as he loves ribs. Boy were we disappointed! The full rack came and the first two bones on either end were inedible as they were hard as a rock from burning. We also ordered corn bread and the bought it with no honey butter and we did not receive any until it was cold about 10 minutes. The rest of the ribs were okay but very skimpy and dried out only the sauce saved them but we prefer very little sauce. We have been coming to this place since it was first established and have just had our first bad meal."

  • "1st time here and it was good. No problem parking and got seated right away. I had buffalo wings as an appetizer and they were VERY good.....I then had the brisket platter for dinner. The brisket was very tender and the sauces on the table (there are 3) are all very tasty, so I had to use them all. Overall the food was good and I would definitely go back."

  • "Rudolph's was once one of "THE" places in Mpls to go for good BBQ. After our visit Sat night... it will be a long time before we come back to give it another shot (if its still around). For a Saturday night the place was EMPTY... shouldve been the first sign. This place used to be packed on the weekends! Our service was fine, but the food was horrible. My favorite part of the meal-- my starter salad with ranch dressing! My husbands rib tips were thin, dry and fatty-- where mine were actually okay. My pulled pork was dry and luke warm, as were the BBQ wings. Such a shame that one of the last few legendary BBQ places is also having a slow death. "

  • "We went for an early dinner, so the restaurant was almost empty. Can't understand how both dinners came cold as the kitchen clearly was not busy. Flagged down the waiter, and he took the dinners back to the kitchen. Came back hot, but totally dried out. YUCK!!!"

  • "Food was all cold... :-( The flavor was good, but when it's supposed to be hot, it takes a lot away from the experience. "

  • "From the head cashier to the waitress, this was the best restaurant experience ever with my entire Minnesota family present. The buffet was fantastic!!! My Barbeque-Rib-Loving sons and grandsons couldn't stop eating them. I had a few more than I should have myself. The salads were fresh, the Gumbo was delicious as was everything on the food bar. Then there were the deserts! Devine Chocolate Cake, Carrot Cake, Fresh Fruit, and a wide variety of Tarts. For a short time, I was in what seemed like heaven! Everyone smiled (workers and guests alike). Just being there seemed to make all of the cares and worries of the day disappear. It was wonderful and I sincerely recommend this to everyone I meat. It was truly the BEST!"

  • "Rudolph's baby back ribs are the best I've ever tasted! We always enjoy dining here - it's one of our family's favorite spots for celebrations. This time we were able to take advantage of an email offer - BOGO entrees for those with a March birthday. During the meal, a staff member stopped by to ask about our satisfaction with the meal and he said: "I see that you have made several reservations here through Open Table so I gave you a table in a quiet spot ." I was very impressed with this personal touch!"

  • "Planning to find Rudolph's for quite some time and finally took the time. It was well worth it. Did the Ultimate for 2 and it was great. Loved the sweet potato fries as an appetizer and drink list was substantial. Fun evening out in a great atmosphere."

  • "After reading previous reviews we thought we would give Rudolph's a try. A couple of highlights were the prompt and friendly service the appetizers (wings and cornbread) and the baked beans. The main course though was a let down. My standards for BBQ are high having competed professionally and their ribs, brisket, and chicken were all average at best. The brisket tasted like roast beef with a very thin smoke ring and so no smoky flavor. The ribs were to greasy and again very flavorless. Sorry but we won't be going back."

  • "Restaurant is showing its age and the atmosphere was not that great. Seemed run down even though the food was good and our server was very helpful. I will probably not go back. "

  • "While the food was very tasty, served promptly, as ordered, and hot, the real kudos goes to the fact that I was entertaining 6 people from China who wanted the "American experience". Despite the language gap, our waitress was very helpful, attentive, and patient. Her efforts were the key to a fun and enjoyable lunch."

  • "My Wife and I enjoyed our Valentine's Dinner at Rudolph's. We had the Valentine's Day Special, which was 2 entrees, plus appetizer, soup or salad, dessert, and a bottle of wine for $70.00. We asked if we could pass on the wine, and the charge was dropped b $20.00. The food was excellent, the atmosphere was nice, and we had an enjoyable dinner."

  • "First of all I would like to note that the service I received from James or whatever his name was not professional at all. He was very rude to me and my guests. I was ok with waiting for my party to arrive before being seated but when I would ask him questions about my table he was very rude and dry with his answers. As my party arrived a guest asked him about some high top tables and he once again was dry and rude not even taking the time to stop and talk with us about what the situation was. After being seated by the hostess I approached him again with the question of whether I would get my table for 10 when my party arrived his response 'your at a table arent u'....My guest informed him that he was being very RUDE...."

  • "When I have a hankering for ribs, Rudolph's is it for me. The Bogie (St. Louis style full slab) is always worth the drive from Minnetonka. Best slaw in town."

  • "serving size on the ribs for 2 was rather skimpy. However, overall the food was delicious. We brought two guests from OUS, who enjoyed their first BBQ experience at Rudy's. They especially liked the ribs and the sweet potato fries."

  • "My boyfriend has had several great meals at Rudolph's and he was eager to show it off to me. Making our reservation via Open Table was super simple. Our server gave us what seemed to be honest opinions when we had questions about the food. The beer list was great, and although my boyfriend and I both dislike "hoppy" beers, we were both able to find beers we liked thanks to the IBU (International Bittering Units) included on the beer list. The manager came over to chat after we'd selected our beers. He made a friendly recommendation of what other food to try with one of the beers, if we ever get a chance. Based on what we ordered, I recommend the baby back ribs and the sweet potato fries, which were the best I've ever had."

  • "This was our first visit in a year. During that time Rudolph's changed the menu and the way they prepare some of the items. The Buffalo Wings which were fried, crispy and had spicy sauce, are now grilled with a mild sauce and the rib tips which were boneless are now baby back ribs chopped into bite-size pieces. Both were not good. The other mediocre item two (in our party of 6 ordered) was the pulled pork sandwich which is something I would expect a BBQ restaurant to be able to handle. It was dry and served on a ciabatta bun which does not really go with that type of sandwich. Bottom line, we will not be going to Rudolph's anymore."

  • "We have been going to Rudolph's every New Years Day since 1978. That's thirty seven straight years. Each year Jimmy Theros out does himself. in 1978 it was the hottest spot in town and it remains a classic. It is hard to find a restaurant that can even remain anywhere for thirty seven years. There is a reason it has stayed fibrant. Try it and you will never be disappointed. Tell him New Years Day guys sent you! They will treat you right!"
