A word from Ruby's Oyster Bar and Bistro
Ruby's is a brilliant gem in downtown Rye. It is chic, casual and comfortable. It charms guests with its varied menu, friendly and professional service, and its lively ambience. Ruby's stylish décor showcases an authentic zinc bar from Paris, beaded chandeliers and ruby red drapes. From its coffered ceiling and tasseled sconces down to its marble mosaic floor, no precious stone has been left unturned.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "I liked the relaxed and casual atmosphere of this restaurant. The food was fresh and prepared well and their was a good selection of seafood choices. I was celebrating a 9th anniversary and enjoyed dining here very much. The food was delivered to our table in a timely fashion by a very capable wait staff. Would like to return again to try additional menu items"

  • "Great & now they have hand towels in bathroom instead of those awful hand driers !"

  • "We were 45 late being seated. Room temperature was uncomfortably cold. Steak ordered medium well was medium rare. Hope this was just a bump in the road as we have always enjoyed RUBY'S in the past!?!?"

  • "I always love ruby's; great seafood, love the unusual chandeliers and nice decor that can be good for casual or special occasions. Have had casual dinners there as well as New Year's Eve. It can be a little on the noisy side, but we were able to talk. Always love the food and they are very flexible about substitutions which is great. Its not cheap, but not unusual for a NY restaurant."

  • "Hand towels finally in the bathroom which is great! The driers were very inconvenient."

  • "Usually this is a great spot but all of our meals were overdone .. It was a busy day , graduation , so I guess the kitchen was overwhelmed . Disappointing though."
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "Love this place! Food & service is wonderful...they have now addressed the hand towels in bathroom (thanks) instead of expecting patrons to use the 'fast food style' hand dryers."

  • "It is one of my favorite restaurants! It is great for lunch, brunch or dinner. The food is great!. The menu has always something for every one, vegetarian, fish or meat. I love the specials, it is the surprise with the seasonal produce. I highly recommend it."

  • "Rubys needs to get paper towels for the bathroom. There is a hand drier--similar to McDonalds--this level of restaurant should have paper towels to dry hands. People are using toilet paper for lack of anything else."
    Dined on 6/14/2014
  • "In a restaurant of this caliber there should be paper towels not hand driers like you see in fast food restaurants. People are using toilet paper to dry their hands."

  • "Hard to beat half-price bottles of wine & a nice brunch selection on a beautiful spring day!"
    Dined on 6/1/2014
  • "The bathroom has no paper towels to try your hands (only a blow drier like a McDonalds restaurant)--you have to use toilet paper to dry your hands. This needs to be corrected with paper towels in the bathrooms."

  • "We enjoyed the food, wine & service. A good find! Noise level was fine with moderate dinner traffic. Waiter was friendly & pleasant. We shared several fish dishes, salad & dessert. Were able to take all the time we wanted - to enjoy the food & the conversation which was the point. We meet several times a year & would definitely return."

  • "The meal started well with a selection of oysters & clams on the half shell. They were fresh & delicious. It all went downhill from there. My wife's appetizer was forgotten, & the 2 entrees were mediocre at best."

  • "Rubys needs to get hand towels for the bathroom. It is rather cheap to have a nice restaurant like Rubys & then use the bathroom & only have hand driers."

  • "Have been there before for dinner and always enjoyed it. The brunch was excellent. Nice menu and very good service."

  • "The ambiance of the place has a European feel. The menu is impressive and diverse, but leans toward seafood. There is still something for everyone. My wife and I enjoyed an anniversary meal here. The wine list is notable and well selected. Definitely recommend to folks that find themselves in Westchester and needing a good meal."

  • "We had our Mother's Day brunch in Ruby's. Really enjoyed it. However I do think their pricing is a bit high for the brunch menu they serve. And $18 for a kids main course is definitely too much. Although our kids are their lunch. I think the pricing puts Ruby's out of our range for regular Sunday brunches. Special occasion only. "

  • "Love this restaurant but we have been telling them to replace their bathroom hand dryer with paper towels. For a restaurant of this level it is very cheap to have hand dryers like a McDonalds. "

  • "Reliable, fun, with well-prepared, fresh food. A bit crowded for brunch with lots of kids. Dinner is usually less frenetic."

  • "Nice ambiance and service, the restaurant was pretty crowded for a Monday night. All the food was good except for the bouillabaisse, the broth was too thin (it should be a thick almost creamy stock) and they didnt provide any rouille (garlicky mayonnaise) which I like to mix in with the broth. It had a decent amount of fish and shellfish which was nice. Wife liked the lobster mushroom gnocchi, they didn't skimp on the lobster chunks. Overall, it was good but not great. Maybe would have been better if I didn't order the bouillabaisse."

  • "We always go to Ruby's when we are in Rye. The food is always so good. We started with the oysters which were so fresh. Our friends had the chowder and that was equally delicious. All of us had the pistachio crusted snapper with the autumn mashed potatoes and kale and brussels sprouts as our sides. We all enjoyed it. This is our favorite restaurant in Rye."

  • "Consistently good with the menu and specials changed just often enough to keep it interesting. Don't ever get rid of the tuna tartar pizza or Scott the bartender!"

  • "Thursday night 8pm.. Waiter clearly overwhelmed. Took appetizer order..it took nearly 20 minutes to get appetizer...had to chase buss boy down least 5 times to find our waiter for everything from simple drink refills, to where is out meal to check. Observed Table next to us equally frustrated. Waiter was please enough when he did come by and thanked us for our patience but this was a terrible service miss. "

  • "Ruby's always has a nice selection of seafood dishes and oysters to choose from. I really love the seared tuna blt sandwich with wasabi mayo and avocado which I order quite a few times. However, this time, the slices of tuna have gotten a lot thinner than in the past. It was so thin you could hardly taste the tuna with all the other condiments on the bread. It seemed there was more bacon that tuna, as that was the predominant flavor. I hope the thin tuna was not due to cutting back expenses. My husband's halibut was prepared nice and moist. The wine selection is nice and wait staff is very attentive."

  • "Tuna tartar pizza was very salty. Maybe they were trying to cover up bad fish."

  • "We stopped here on our way from NYC and loved the pub feel but the large menu varieties. Waiter was very good, friendly, and offered to,open the window we were sitting next to and let in the fresh air. I had the tuna tartar pizza and it was excellent."

  • "It was such a noisy experience that it was difficult to hear one another--and there were just two of us!"

  • "It was our 1st time eating at Ruby's Oyster Bar; it won't be our last! Our server Andy was knowledgeable, friendly & attentive. His suggestions with picking fresh oysters was exactly on target. Next we had the escargot the sauce was so tasty we needed more bread for dipping! My husband had the bouillabaisse which was filled with flavorful broth & a variety of different fish/shellfish. I had the special which was seared sea scallops (yummy) & short ribs (tender and oh sooo good). For dessert with shared the apple crisp with Langford's vanilla ice cream. We sat upstairs which is charming small & quiet. Downstairs is vibrant and bustling. We are looking forward to enjoying another lovely dining experience at Ruby's Oyster Bar & Bistro!"

  • "The noise level is very high and the tables for 2 are extremely small but the food is very good."

  • "I have to spend some time in the area on weekends for a bit, and this place has worked out for me. This is a large menu with lots of options. There are well-executed French standards as well as some lighter and more modern dishes. They can modify dishes for health related requests and do so without issues and accurately. Proteins are cooked to order and precisely. The wines by the bottle are priced better than in my home state. The list by the glass could use a few higher end options but the Sancerre is quite good. Brunch also did not disappoint. The service is good. The downstairs is loud and lovely while upstairs is more intimate, so you could request tables accordingly."

  • "Lunch on a Friday was such a delight, that we returned on Monday while still in Rye. The salmon Cobb salad is a keeper!"
    Dined on 3/14/2014
  • "With a reservation, we still waited 30 minutes to be seated. The tables are much too close. It was like being on the subway. People were constantly bunking into the table while we were eating. The food was good but not worth returning."

  • "We went to dinner on a Saturday night; while our table was ready for our reservation, the table closest to us was overcrowded and too close to our table, making it impossible for waitstaff to walk by. The overcrowding and lack of table service diminished what would have otherwise been a great meal."
