A word from Ruby's Oyster Bar and Bistro
Ruby's is a brilliant gem in downtown Rye. It is chic, casual and comfortable. It charms guests with its varied menu, friendly and professional service, and its lively ambience. Ruby's stylish décor showcases an authentic zinc bar from Paris, beaded chandeliers and ruby red drapes. From its coffered ceiling and tasseled sconces down to its marble mosaic floor, no precious stone has been left unturned.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Ruby's always has a nice selection of seafood dishes and oysters to choose from. I really love the seared tuna blt sandwich with wasabi mayo and avocado which I order quite a few times. However, this time, the slices of tuna have gotten a lot thinner than in the past. It was so thin you could hardly taste the tuna with all the other condiments on the bread. It seemed there was more bacon that tuna, as that was the predominant flavor. I hope the thin tuna was not due to cutting back expenses. My husband's halibut was prepared nice and moist. The wine selection is nice and wait staff is very attentive."

  • "Tuna tartar pizza was very salty. Maybe they were trying to cover up bad fish."

  • "We stopped here on our way from NYC and loved the pub feel but the large menu varieties. Waiter was very good, friendly, and offered to,open the window we were sitting next to and let in the fresh air. I had the tuna tartar pizza and it was excellent."

  • "It was such a noisy experience that it was difficult to hear one another--and there were just two of us!"

  • "It was our 1st time eating at Ruby's Oyster Bar; it won't be our last! Our server Andy was knowledgeable, friendly & attentive. His suggestions with picking fresh oysters was exactly on target. Next we had the escargot the sauce was so tasty we needed more bread for dipping! My husband had the bouillabaisse which was filled with flavorful broth & a variety of different fish/shellfish. I had the special which was seared sea scallops (yummy) & short ribs (tender and oh sooo good). For dessert with shared the apple crisp with Langford's vanilla ice cream. We sat upstairs which is charming small & quiet. Downstairs is vibrant and bustling. We are looking forward to enjoying another lovely dining experience at Ruby's Oyster Bar & Bistro!"

  • "The noise level is very high and the tables for 2 are extremely small but the food is very good."

  • "I have to spend some time in the area on weekends for a bit, and this place has worked out for me. This is a large menu with lots of options. There are well-executed French standards as well as some lighter and more modern dishes. They can modify dishes for health related requests and do so without issues and accurately. Proteins are cooked to order and precisely. The wines by the bottle are priced better than in my home state. The list by the glass could use a few higher end options but the Sancerre is quite good. Brunch also did not disappoint. The service is good. The downstairs is loud and lovely while upstairs is more intimate, so you could request tables accordingly."

  • "Lunch on a Friday was such a delight, that we returned on Monday while still in Rye. The salmon Cobb salad is a keeper!"

  • "With a reservation, we still waited 30 minutes to be seated. The tables are much too close. It was like being on the subway. People were constantly bunking into the table while we were eating. The food was good but not worth returning."

  • "We went to dinner on a Saturday night; while our table was ready for our reservation, the table closest to us was overcrowded and too close to our table, making it impossible for waitstaff to walk by. The overcrowding and lack of table service diminished what would have otherwise been a great meal."

  • "I have dined here several times and been mostly impressed. This visit not so. I decided to try the Restaurant Week menu and was quite disappointed. The deviled egg appetizer was not very good: bland and heavy, with a morsel of smoked salmon (?) on top. The server had told me the eggs were topped with chicken liver, which would have better, I'm sure. The gnocchi in a cream sauce with peas and prosciutto was pedestrian at best. Surprisingly, it was delivered while I was still eating the appetizer, a BIG no-no in my book. I sent it back. When it returned it was not warm. The pasta was dense rather than the light bites I had hoped for. The dessert of grapefruit sorbet was very good; definitely the best part of the meal."

  • "Great find! We dropped in on a Friday night in January without a reservation, well cared for and the food was outstanding. Great selections, everything delicious. We had such a great experience we went back on Saturday for an afternoon snack. Later that evening while searching the local area for "someplace else" to go, we could not come up with anything we wanted more...so yes, we went back to Ruby's again for dinner. Looking forward to our next visit to Westchester....as we will most likely go back....again."

  • "Ruby's is great! The tuna tartare pizza is to die for! The service is great. You can walk in off the street for a quick, delicious lunch and you don't have to break up the day by being out in the middle of nowhere at some quiet restaurant. Feels like the city, but the prices are reasonable. There are plenty of small, lunch size choices, so you don't feel like you need a nap afterwards. Soups, salads, appetizers, seafood, you name it. It is also great for dinner, groups of 6-8 for birthdays, or just drinks at the bar. My favorite restaurant in Rye!"

  • "I'm really happy that the brunch/lunch menu is pretty extensive so that everybody in a group can be satisfied with their choice. The service is exceptional and the food is fresh and well prepared. I just wish that the tables weren't so crowded together. It's hard to leave your table without shoving someone else's chair and a crying child can literally be 2 feet from you."

  • "We had brunch on New Years Day and it was wonderful. The service was upbeat and attentive. It was early and not busy yet which was great because we were with an elderly person. It seems this would be a very noisy restaurant at night with a lively bar scene."

  • "We were delightfully surprised to find this gem of a local restaurant for a New Year's Eve dining experience. We're pretty critical of the meal that we eat out, and this was no disappointment. The serve staff, was in a word, exceptional. Friendly, knowledgeable, and highly professional. Definitely worth a repeat visit."

  • "We went for brunch the Sunday before Christmas. As always, Ruby's was full and energetic -- speaks to how much everyone loves Ruby's for its always good food and drink as well as a fun atmosphere. Unfortunately, we had a very rude waitress who basically ignored us because, as she told us repeatedly, "she had a party of 15 upstairs" (we were a party of six). Waited for everything -- water, drinks, appetizers and food. When we called over another waitress and asked her to help out, our waitress got even more negative and annoyed with us and ignored us even more - hard to believe. She made us all very uncomfortable and unwelcome, not typical of Ruby's usual good service. Food, when it arrived, was very good."

  • "The food was pretty good but the service was very very slow. We had to ask for our water, ask for extra cups and place settings for friends who joined us 5 minutes later... we didn't feel welcomed at all!"

  • "When we are in Rye for the weekend, we always go to Ruby's. The seafood is so fresh. We love the steamers when they are a special. The mussels are so good, too. We have tried practically everything on the menu and it never disappoints. The waiters are very friendly and efficient. We will keep coming back."

  • "This is our go to restaurant in Rye. It never disappoints. The special appetizer were steamers so we never pass those up. They're very good. Then I had the mussels with french fries. The wine sauce in the mussels were so delicious. My husband had the salmon and that was also very good. We will keep on going back!"
