Diner Reviews
  • "I ordered the Ruby Foo signature drink and it was unacceptably weak. FYI, I weigh less than 100 lbs and I had not eaten in 12 hours. The first thing I consumed when I sat down was the Ruby Foo and the drink didn't even make me slightly buzzed. Please don't skimp on liquor in cocktails. After a long day, its an absolutely intolerable imposition on my sanity. That aside, I loved the Spicy Beef Udon. Perfect blend of spice and texture hit the spot."

  • "We had a friendly waiter at first he took our drink order and chatted a bit. Another waiter brought the drinks and then took our order. He was not attentive and was very distracted. We left without ordering dessert. I have been here multiple times. Never had service by someone who clearly did not want to be there."

  • "It happens, but due to some confusion we were not even waited on for 10+ minutes. Had to ask for waiter. Even then very apologetic waitress still did not improve it much. 10 more minutes before drinks arrived. On more than one occasion food for another table was brought to ours. One of our dishes never came, but we were all sharing so it did not matter too much. They did comp our drinks, and appetizer. After we paid and were about to leave that one dish finally arrived nearly 30 minutes after the others. That said, the food was really good and the waitress tried to make it up to us."

  • "Only ordered one thing from lunch menu -- the assorted dim sum -- which was very disappointing. Tough and doughy, all tasted pretty much alike and not very tasty at all."

  • "We love this restaurant whenever we come into the city to see a broadway show, but over the years the decor has gotten a little worn out and I really wish the owners would update it!"

  • "We dined at Ruby Foo's the other night. From the time we walked in the door we could not have been treated better. Everyone seemed happy to be there. Server was really helpful about suggesting dishes compatible with food alergies. Food was great! Service was great! We will definitely go back."

  • "We brought our near 80 year old parents to NYC for their first visit. We have eaten here ourselves many times. The menu always has food that appeals to the softer palate of our elders as well as the robust palate of the rest of us. We mixed a variety of appetizers, fried rices, neutral to spicy entrees for all and sushi for the kids. Wait staff was very attentive and helpful, food was delicious as usual. It was delivered to our table in coordinated stages that fed everyone something before the next batch. This is a true mid-town gem. If treating out of town folks to dinner and a show, this is a perfect spot. The portion amounts were just right so we didn't have to mess with leftovers."

  • "Perfect location; table was ready on time. The kids all found something they like."

  • "I went on a date to Ruby Foo's for dinner before seeing a play. Overall, I feel like you're paying for the location and the ambiance, as both of those were great, but the food was nothing special. The food wasn't bad by any means, but for the price, I thought it could have been better. But that being said, it was a cool place with modern Asian decor and the service was very good. And the location was a short walk away from the theater, which was very convenient."

  • "Went for dinner after a show and had a 5:15 reservation. We were pressed for time and asked for a later reservation time. We were given a later time without any problems and had a great meal. Service was very efficient and the food was very good as usual. I would definitely return."

  • "Ruby Foos is our go to restaurant when we see a Broadway show or for a special occasion. We've been to this pan-Asian restaurant many times over the years and always enjoy our food and the friendly and mostly efficient waitstaff. It's centrally located to all the Broadway theaters."

  • "Made a reservation for 6pm and we were seated immediately. We all had mains , wine and a dessert and made it out by 7:30. Very friendly staff though busy. Pleasant visit, would do it again."

  • "Was fun for tourists. I would not go again for dinner unless I was showing a younger person the sites"

  • "Second time eating here, second time happy ! First time dinner, second time for lunch both were good."

  • "The food was pretty good, but the kitchen was extremely slow. The wait staff and manager did a good job of communicating and rush the food to make sure that we were able to leave in time to make our show. In the end though, we were rushed through our meal and didn't get to eat the dessert that we wanted to order."

  • "Always a great experience at Ruby Foos. The food was great, service was stellar and the company even better. Great for group dinners but a bit challenging on volume"

  • "Terrible service.....waiter was not friendly and rude....they forgot one entire entree so 6 out of 7 people were eating and the 7th one was not ...."

  • "Food was tasty, especially the ribs but the decor was run down looking and the location was tourist central. Kids loved it anyway."

  • "I thought Ruby Foo's was going to be a tourist trap with mediocre food. The quality of the food more than made up for the somewhat limited menu. Our entree's were delicious, as was the desert. Our meal was fairly priced."

  • "The reservation was honored and we were seated in quiet part of the restaurant to accommodate our party of six. The menu was varied. The young man who served us was friendly, helpful and attentive. We thoroughly enjoyed the meals. I have no restraints in recommending the restaurant to friends. K. Bernhard"

  • "friendly, great service, food was good, one suggestion; we felt rushed when our entre arrived moments later after we just received our appetizers, work on your timing."

  • "I took a girlfriend there for a birthday lunch and she totaly enjoyed it. she started out w/a Mai Tai, she likes fruity drinks and was very pleased. Edamame and the malaysian wings for appetizers. the Wasabi Wonton Salmon is amazing, paired w/the forbidden black rice was a great paring, we shared food. I had Bento box w/spicy beef udon and it came w/a chocolate on choclate slice of cake. Perfect little box w/miso soup, house salad (think it is sesame dressing) and the beef udon were all the right amounts of food."

  • "Ruby Foo's is an Asian restaurant with a good selection of Sushi on the menu. Because of this the Chinese portion is very limited compared to what one would expect. The food was good, but nothing to write home about. It was a typical chain restaurant."

  • "Highly disappointed. Food nothing more than P F Chang --- and not that good. I have passed by Ruby Foo's many times on my travels to NYC and the outside looked intriguing. However this restaurant has no redeeming qualities. Atmosphere and food presentation is lacking, tables too close and lighting is horrible. I would not recommend this restaurant for children, teens or adults. There is neither a fun quality nor a romantic dining experience. I felt as though I were in a "glorified cafeteria". I would like to add that I have lived and traveled all over the world for years; I have dined at all levels of restaurants to include "hole in the walls" with great dining experiences. I will never walk back through the door at Ruby Foo's."

  • "Don't waste your money on this restaurant that is just trading on the past. The food was awful. Greasy, and tasteless! We eat out a lot and this was the worst dinner we could possibly have. The staff does try and are pleasant. The ambience in the restaurant is 1950's after 100 years."

  • "One of the best thing about Ruby Foo's is that the qualify of the food is consistently good!"

  • "We dine at Ruby Foos whenever we are in the area. There has never been a time when we were not satisfied."

  • "I was looking for a fun place to take my friend before going to the theater and that would satisfy both of our tastes and Ruby Foo's was perfect. The food was incredibly fresh, very tasty and the service was perfect - not too much and never felt ignored. We weren't there for the pre-theater rush so I don't know what it's like during those busier times. "

  • "I'm not particularly keen on time square restaurants but Ruby Foo's consistently has quick service and good food which makes them my go to when I have to eat quickly and then catch my bus. "

  • "Staying in the Upper West Side, made a snap decision to see a show with a group of girlfriends, party of 7. Decided to hit "The Foo." Used to go there pre theatre years ago, hadn't been for 5 or 6 years. Menu has been updated, lettuce wraps still there, still very good! Bao was more of a taco, but buns were soft and pork was fabulous, chicken pad Thai was awesome! Not a bad bite all night and out in plenty of time to hit the show. Two thumbs up!"

  • "We were looking forward to our old standbye where we've always had good food in an enjoyable environment. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. The decor needs an update which we could live with, but when the food was in need of better preparation and not tasting like it just came out of a can or container, we knew the place was in trouble. We were there pre theater and the place was not very crowded which was unusual. The kitchen was not so busy that proper food preparation was not possible. We had to return the overcooked steamed edamame and the pad Thai was cloyingly sweet. The dumplings were pasty. In fairness, the maître d was willing to take back the dishes that were inedible and very understanding of our disappointment. "

  • "We picked Ruby Foo's because we were looking for decent Asian food close to the theater district and it certainly was a good choice. It was a blind pick since we were visiting from Florida, but we would eat there again."

  • "The menu offered an interesting mix of Chinese, Japanese and Thai dishes. We tried a variety of cuisines in our group and everyone liked everything. No bad dishes. Portions were small but prices were reasonable - especially for NYC!"
