A word from Rubirosa
Rubirosa is Angelo (AJ) Pappalardo's family-run neighborhood Italian-American restaurant and pizzeria.

The menu at Rubirosa is comprised of Al DiMeglio's (Olana, Osteria del Circo) take on Italian-American classics including a wide array of house-made pastas as well as its flagship thin-crust pizza dating back to a 51 year old family recipe.

The family recipe originated at Joe and Pats pizzeria in Staten Island which is the namesake pizzeria of AJ's father Giuseppe. Our menu is complimented by a unique Italian focused wine, cocktail and spirits program by General Manager/Wine Director Bari Musacchio and talented Bar team.

Rubirosa is located in the heart of Nolita and its clientele bridges the gap between the old and new neighborhood regulars. Angelo Bianchi helps to create a fun crowd in Rubirosa's cozy and comfortable atmosphere that welcomes every occasion from a family-style group dinner to drinks and antipasti at our cozy bar

Greeting/host service needs some attention - food was good, scene was good. Lack of "red saucy" Italian places makes this stands out - parm across the street remains a superior option if you can live without the scene..

It was a good restaurant, small and noisy. I ate by myself and was put at a table right at the place that they punched in the orders . literally on top of me. The server was OK. Seemed to rush my dinner as I was in and out in slightly less than 1 hour. My rice balls were very good, the black and white pasta was a bit on the soggy side, but there was a fair amount of seafood in it and the portions were of a nice size. Price wise-not expensive at all. I don't have an wine and so can't comment on the selection. This place was recommended by a foodie living in NYC. Maybe it was an off night, but I won't be running back as it dodn't really leave me wioth a great impression.

I try to come here once a month and I'd come more often if it was easier to get a table! Reasonable prices for incredible food - can't find too many places like that in NYC. For a table of two you're fine sharing a small pizza but for three people definitely get a larger size. The house wine is delicious too!

Booked a table for two about a month in advance. Only options were 6 and 9:30 forward. Did the 9:30. Had to wait a little while past 9:30 but was able to order a glass of chianti pre-sit-down. Once we sat down, ordered short rib ravioli and cavatelli, with a side of meatballs. All were excellent. Didn't try the pizza, but will next time.

This is my second visit and once again, I enjoyed every bite. This is well prepared Italian food at it's best. Large fresh green salad with shaved pecorino, tagliatelle with seafood that tasted of the sea, and rustic bread and good wine. Service was attentive, sound track fun. I'll be back!

The Food was fantastic, atmosphere was great, my only complaint was our server wasn't to interested in offering suggestions or any help in the way of the menu. Didn't pay much attention to us and forgot to bring a few things we had asked for. Other then that the food was amazing best pizza I've had in a long time.

We are frequently in the neighborhood and decided to try Rubirosa. Greeting and seating was warm and went well but we had that waitress, you know the punch line of every bad waitress joke. She lacked personality, charm, grace, was surly, absent and made me want to ask for someone else to serve us. The food on the other hand was generously portioned and quite tasty. We shared a small, (incorrectly named as it was gigantic), mushroom pizza and a lamb gnocchi. A decent glass of wine accompanied the meal and we shared a family style table with a group of travelers. We might give Rubirosa another try but with so many enjoyable places nearby, poor service just won’t cut it.

The service was extremely terrible and waitress was very rude. The pizza may have been good but we were so offended that the entire meal was just a terrible experience. This restaurant needs to teach its staff the definition of customer service. It is not ok to talk to customers in such a condescending matter. Needless to say we are not coming back. There are plenty of great pizza joints in NY including Lombardi's which is right around the corner. Your money is much better spent there instead.

I've written a previous review and just can't stop raving about Rubirosa. We usually come here for dinner and I love their house cocktail "The Daisy" but since it's become impossible to get a reservation over open table we decided to try a lunch visit. The menu is slightly different (no muscles so we tried the ceasear which we loved)! We got the vodka pie once again which is amazing, it's light, tasty and the crust is such a great texture. Service is fantastic, our waiter Scott did a great job suggesting appetizers (we did the calamari and my son got mozerella sticks) and he was just over all helpful, attentive and super sweet!!! Always too full for dessert but can't wait to try the banana split one day with snicker doodle!!!!!

I've been to Rubirosa 3x now and each time I'm just as happy as the last. Order the vodka pizza. Don't try to get all fancy and add meats and various toppings, the vodka pizza alone is hands down, the best. I also LOVE their grandma's briochole. The meat is tender, sauce is perfectly paired and the toast it comes with doesn't disappoint. The salads were okay - worth skipping. The artichoke was also good, but not worth ordering again. Just stick with what they know best - the pizza! And to end your meal, make sure to order the Neapolitan ice cream sandwich. Then walk home...

No need to go down way down to SoHo for basic Italian food, though the meatballs are really really good. Ultra thin crust is different, but not better than typical foldable, thin crust NY pizza. Afraid to say, just another basic red-sauce Italian -- probably overhyped.

With so many places to choose from I relied on reviews from others. You won't be disappointed here. Pizza was awesome and the sandwiches were great too. We are from CT and are used to Pepe's in New Haven. The service was great. Heads up, the kitchen closes from 4-5 to prep for dinner. However, you can still get pizza during this time. It is unusual that we can find a restaurant where everyone was happy with their meal and this place accomplished that.

This is a nice, quiet place in Little Italy. Most restaurants are too commercial, crowded and the staff practically accosts you as you walk by. This place is quiet and comfortable. The thin crust pizza is one of the best I've had. Need to try the vodka thin crust. Thinks its their specialty.

We came to Rubriosa after flying in from Texas and visiting the 9/11 Memorial and Museum. Needless to say, we were famished. Website reviews liked that Rubriosa was a little outside the stereotypical Little Italy fare. We decided to order three different dishes and share-family style. We began with the caprese salad. The house made mozzarella was divine-fresh, lightly salty, firm. Next, we had the special-a risotto, prosciutto, creamy dish that was fabulous. I wish I could remember the name and all the ingredients. I just know the specials are worth trying. Finally, the tie-dye pizza was a flavorful mix of vodka sauce, tomato, pesto and house made mozzarella. For true, authentic, Italian food, this is a great place.

Rubirosa might have a bunch of "nonnas" cooking in the back. Their base for every dish is the marinara...pure, not acid, robust sauce. The pastas are OUT of this world, salads are great and the desserts, ok...nobody has to wait for San Gennaro's Festival to have fluffy, delicate and airy zeppoles. Their food is the best!!! Can't wait to go back.
