A word from Rubirosa
Rubirosa is Angelo (AJ) Pappalardo's family-run neighborhood Italian-American restaurant and pizzeria.

The menu at Rubirosa is comprised of Al DiMeglio's (Olana, Osteria del Circo) take on Italian-American classics including a wide array of house-made pastas as well as its flagship thin-crust pizza dating back to a 51 year old family recipe.

The family recipe originated at Joe and Pats pizzeria in Staten Island which is the namesake pizzeria of AJ's father Giuseppe. Our menu is complimented by a unique Italian focused wine, cocktail and spirits program by General Manager/Wine Director Bari Musacchio and talented Bar team.

Rubirosa is located in the heart of Nolita and its clientele bridges the gap between the old and new neighborhood regulars. Angelo Bianchi helps to create a fun crowd in Rubirosa's cozy and comfortable atmosphere that welcomes every occasion from a family-style group dinner to drinks and antipasti at our cozy bar

  • "Still dreaming about the vodka sauce pizza days later. get it. 5 stars for that one"

  • "This is ultimate place in the city to get authentic New York City thin crust pizza. The Supreme and vodka are both hands down the best pizza I've ever had. Great spot and a must do if visiting anywhere near NYC."

  • "Took my teenage cousins from N.C. to Rubirosa for brunch. 11 pm that night, they were still talking about how great the pizza was!"
    Dined on 8/9/2014
  • "We enjoyed pizza, pasta and risotto, all superb and fresh. Sauces were delicious and atmosphere was fun for my family of 5."

  • "We had a fabulous time at Rubirossa last Thursday. The meal was very excellent...my Black and White Pasta was to die for. Our waiter was knowledgeable, friendly, and fun! And we want to thank the restaurant for their attention to making our 50th wedding anniversary celebration so special! We will be back again soon!"

  • "Excellent, as always! Had the vodka pizza, rice balls and mozzarella sticks..."

  • "No need to go down way down to SoHo for basic Italian food, though the meatballs are really really good. Ultra thin crust is different, but not better than typical foldable, thin crust NY pizza. Afraid to say, just another basic red-sauce Italian -- probably overhyped."

  • "I suggested Rubirosa to a new guy that I am dating and we both thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! The atmosphere is great- usually busy and the food is excellent. In my humble opinion- Rubirosa is perfect for intro-dates as it is not too pricey and the dress code is pretty casual. I highly recommend!!"

  • "My kidneys were angry at me after dinner. The meatballs were the only things that wasn't over salted."

  • "Anytime I have a visitor from out of town, Rubirosa is the go-to. We always have a positive dining experience with amazing food and service and always leave happy. The vodka pizza and arugula salad never disappoint! This time was the first time we ordered dessert and it won't be the last! The banana split special was unreal and don't worry...we didn't leave any behind."

  • "Delicious pizza in a great atmosphere! My husband and I very much enjoyed our dinner here. The service was outstanding, as was the food, or course! We also loved the house wine! Yum"

  • "The pizza here ranges amongst some of the best I've ever had. We have 3 adults and 3 teens and large pizzas filled us to the gills. The classic and supreme pizzas were amazing with the right sauce/cheese to crust ratio... Check it out, you'll be happy you did."

  • "With so many places to choose from I relied on reviews from others. You won't be disappointed here. Pizza was awesome and the sandwiches were great too. We are from CT and are used to Pepe's in New Haven. The service was great. Heads up, the kitchen closes from 4-5 to prep for dinner. However, you can still get pizza during this time. It is unusual that we can find a restaurant where everyone was happy with their meal and this place accomplished that."

  • "My favourite restaurant in NYC!!!! Amazing salads, pizza, pasta and dessert! Everything on the menu is amazing!"

  • "Must get the tri color or vodka pie....best ever!!!!!!!! So tasty and not heavy. The tri color comes in a heart shape and has vodka, pesto and regualr sauces. Cute neighborhood spot. Ambiance depends on which room you are in, love the front room, dark and cozy but the food is worth sitting anywhere even the bar. Usually an hour wait for walk ins but great appetizer selection at the bar is always an option."

  • "This is a nice, quiet place in Little Italy. Most restaurants are too commercial, crowded and the staff practically accosts you as you walk by. This place is quiet and comfortable. The thin crust pizza is one of the best I've had. Need to try the vodka thin crust. Thinks its their specialty."

  • "I found this restaurant on OT and it had great writeups on it's food, so I made reservations for my friend and I. This restaurant is in a lively, yet quiet neighborhood. The service is great, the food excellent, the drinks delicious! This restaurant is definitely a winner! Well worth a visit."

  • "We came to Rubriosa after flying in from Texas and visiting the 9/11 Memorial and Museum. Needless to say, we were famished. Website reviews liked that Rubriosa was a little outside the stereotypical Little Italy fare. We decided to order three different dishes and share-family style. We began with the caprese salad. The house made mozzarella was divine-fresh, lightly salty, firm. Next, we had the special-a risotto, prosciutto, creamy dish that was fabulous. I wish I could remember the name and all the ingredients. I just know the specials are worth trying. Finally, the tie-dye pizza was a flavorful mix of vodka sauce, tomato, pesto and house made mozzarella. For true, authentic, Italian food, this is a great place."

  • "Rubirosa might have a bunch of "nonnas" cooking in the back. Their base for every dish is the marinara...pure, not acid, robust sauce. The pastas are OUT of this world, salads are great and the desserts, ok...nobody has to wait for San Gennaro's Festival to have fluffy, delicate and airy zeppoles. Their food is the best!!! Can't wait to go back."

  • "Rubirosa is one of the great neighborhood restaurants of New York. I work a few blocks away and have been coming here regularly for lunch since it opened. The room is a little cramped and not the most charming, but the service and the food are outstanding. Try the Rubirosa Sandwich!"

  • "This was our 1st time in NYC and we had to change our reservation to the next day. The hostess was wonderful in helping us with our change. The food was fresh, hot and perfect. We will be back when we come back to NYC. As a first timer in NYC we could not have asked for a more friendly beautiful and awesome food."

  • "I have been to this restaurant several times and it gets better every time....their pizza is wonderful thin crust and tasty and love the pasta especially the one with seafood. I keep thinking about the pizza so I would recommend this restaurant highly. It is a casual restaurant with a great ambience. A must try"

  • "They had they best gluten free pizza! The service was fantastic. The waitress was very helpful with directions and told us about a free app for the subway."

  • "The pizza is amazing. Vodka pizza was our favorite. We also got the braciole appetizer which was wonderful as well. It is a casual place with moderate prices. Definitely not fancy."

  • "The food was great. the portions are a good size and the meals tasted very Italian in flavor, not bottled sauces. We didn't have the pizza but our table next to us did and they said it was very good and it looked great too."

  • "we love italian - we've eaten it everywhere. Rubirosa's was amazing. Ordered the chicken park and GF classic pizza and it was, by far, the best GF pizza crust we've ever had!"

  • "I made a reservation, however we arrived 30 minutes early and we're still seated right away. No hestitation. Staff was all very friendly. Ambiance was excellent for a group of friends. Service was excellent. No complaints. Would easily recommend Rubirosa to a friend and return again for another great dining experience."

  • "This restaurant was great. Hard to get a reservation so we had to eat early, but overall a good experience. The pizza is thin crust and the pasta is freshly prepared. Great wine list. Lively atmosphere. "

  • "We loved the supreme pizza! I'd heard great things about the vodka pizza, so we tried it. It was good, but not as good as some other pies. Our server was helpful and made a good recommendation on wine! "

  • "We always make sure we go to Rubirosa when we land in NYC from Australia. We love food and good service, and this is one of our favourites. "

  • "I've been to Rubirosa's many times and each time it gets better. It's a small cozy place so make reservations. We ordered the generous house salad with pecorino cheese and a garlic dressing. Perfect for two. I ordered the succulent and huge meatballs (3 per order) and ate them all up myself since hubby is a vegetarian. We also ordered the large vodka pizza with artichoke and mushrooms and the tangy, tasty sauce with crunchy thin crust was made to perfection. To top it off, they always plays a mixture of alternative 80's to classic rock or new punk. What more could I want? I go back there every time I'm in NY."

  • "Very nice Italian restaurant in Little Italy. We had ravioli and pizza. The ravioli was outstanding and also the pizza really good and crispy. Really worth a visit!"

  • "Rubirosa's Vodka pizza has always crazy crispy dough and rich flavor topping and it makes me happy when I bite the slice of pizza. Besides, Handmade pasta and octopus salad are also awesome. Even place is tight and narrow, but you must love this place. If you really sew how real New Yorkers are having fun with Italian foodies, must come here."

  • "Very fun space! The two of us shared a small pasta, a small pizza, and dessert. We were shocked at how big the portions were considering the price - I was expecting tiny plates of food, but everything was substantial. We ordered the black and white tagliatelle with seafood, and everything was cooked perfectly - it was also loaded with seafood. We then shared a "small" pizza that was actually pretty massive (we were able to get halvsies of two flavors). The crust was a bit soggy, but overall very flavorful. For dessert we shared the strawberry rhubarb crisp with sour cream gelato, which was gooey and delicious. It was big enough to feed a small army, but we couldn't stop eating it, despite being full from dinner. Will definitely return soon!"

  • "I had 3/4 of a pie left over that I had asked for them to pack to go...it came in a bag what I didn't see is that they put each slice on a paper plate and stacked the plates in the bag one on top of each other.I had a mess of left over pizza by the time I got home."

  • "Great food, but the space was kind of tight. We were literally on top of another table and it was a struggle to get out of the restaurant. But the food was amazing. I would go back!"

  • "I had a great dinner here for my friend's birthday. There were 5 of us and the menu allowed us to do our own thing or go with the family style options. The ambiance and portion sizes reminded me a little of Bucca di Peppo. We had a great time and the food was delicious - everything we ordered was great. I saw big groups here and tables of two so it's a good option for any party size. Will definitely be coming back."
