A word from Rubirosa
Rubirosa is Angelo (AJ) Pappalardo's family-run neighborhood Italian-American restaurant and pizzeria.

The menu at Rubirosa is comprised of Al DiMeglio's (Olana, Osteria del Circo) take on Italian-American classics including a wide array of house-made pastas as well as its flagship thin-crust pizza dating back to a 51 year old family recipe.

The family recipe originated at Joe and Pats pizzeria in Staten Island which is the namesake pizzeria of AJ's father Giuseppe. Our menu is complimented by a unique Italian focused wine, cocktail and spirits program by General Manager/Wine Director Bari Musacchio and talented Bar team.

Rubirosa is located in the heart of Nolita and its clientele bridges the gap between the old and new neighborhood regulars. Angelo Bianchi helps to create a fun crowd in Rubirosa's cozy and comfortable atmosphere that welcomes every occasion from a family-style group dinner to drinks and antipasti at our cozy bar

  • "waiter was very friendly and sat us down promptly. Had the octopus salad to start - cooked perfectly with a tasty dressing to accompany the bed of salad/ potatoes it sat on. Had black/white tagliatelle and the cavatelli for entree - both delicious and good size. Didn't get a pizza as didn't want to overindulge but they looked delicious and will go back for one! great food and vibe, will be back!"

We had the rice balls, braciole, special risotto, gnocchi, and rigatoni at our table..each and every one was amazing! It's a small and loud place, but adorable and the service was great!   • "Ate at Rubirosa with the family on New Years Day and ordered 2 pizzas with 4 different topping combinations (supreme, vodka, peperoni and broccoli/sausage). By FAR the best pizza we've ever had! The supreme was probably my favourite but all were awesome! Large pizzas are gigantic and could be shared by at least 3 people. Will definitely go back next time I'm in NYC."

  • "we were only 5 minutes late - it was a 12:45 reservation and we arrived at 12:49... I even checked my watch twice! The hostess had an awful expression her face. when we arrived, we gave her our name and she mumbled, i gave away your table b/c you are late... I said, we are only a few minutes and she ignored me and said, "follow me". she seated us in the back next to the kitchen. the table was terrible. i did not complain b/c it was not worth it. however, her attitude was not necessary. aside from the terrible hostess, food was delicious."

  • "I chose this restaurant for a NYC shopping trip gift for my Italian mom and sister. Located in the heart of Little Italy in NYC, Rubirosa did not disappoint! We are Sicilian, so we're tough critics of Italian food, and I can honestly say the meal at Rubirosa was authentic and delicious. I would highly recommend this restaurant for its cozy ambiance and delicious fare. Make sure to order a side of meatballs for a real treat!"

  • "I was introduced to this place by a co-worker, and it was excellent. Their best dishes would be the meatball pizza and the carbonara. The pizza was thin, cooked well, and tasted great. Carbonara was cooked correctly, al dente. The cheese and sauce were creamy and flavorful. I would recommend this place to anyone, and the hostess was very kind, and allowed me to wait 20 minutes for my party to arrive. It's a bit crowded, so I would recommend reserving this place in advance."

  • "I was in NY to take the Christmas Lights and Cannoli Tour to Brooklyn with my daughter, a good friend and her daughter. We stayed in Chinatown/Little Italy and picked Rubirosa for dinner. I've never been there before but have had dinner in Little Italy at other Mulberry St. Restaurants (can't remember their names). I will remember Rubirosa. The place was small and had a neighborhood bar vibe to it and was quite cozy. We ordered a large original pizza with cheese and half mushroom slices, plus had mozzarella sticks and calamari as appetizers, two bottles of Mascoti and 2 glasses of white whine. Everything we ordered was delicious. The pizza was the best I've had in NYC so far. Better than Grimaldi's. I highly recommend this place."

  • "We had a great meal at Rubirosa. We arrived late, and they had already given our table away. It was a busy night, with lots of rain outside, so it took over an hour in a cab to go 3 miles from midtown. We ordered a salad to share, so yummy and fresh tasting. Loved this salad, i believe it was the house salad. We split the rabe and sausage pizza. Excellent. I would strongly recommend this place. The staff was great to accommodate us."

  • "Loved this place. In a city full of amazing restaurants, I worked hard to find something special. This was a highlight of our trip. Very quaint and vibrant. The food was beyond wonderful. We had the Vodka pizza - mostly because others recommended it. WOW!!!!! So delicious. The crust was perfectly thin with enough chewiness and crunch. The sauce was special. We also ordered the Sunday Sauce which had several meats and a delicious sauce which we had over spaghetti. We shared a bottle of Italian wine and loved very bite, sip, crunch and moment of our experience."

It tastes the way gluten free pizza use to taste when people were first trying to come up with alternative doughs. This one is too dense and over powers the sauce and cheese.   • "No pretension, solid food. The housemade pickled peppers and cauliflower -- which gets slathered onto the slow-roasted beef sandwich -- is a real treat. The gnocchi was a bit mushy and looked a bit like Spaghetti-Os when served up in a shallow bowl. Probably not the best choice. But the place has an authentic, lived-in and eaten-in feel to it. Seems to draw more regulars than tourists."

We ordered the lasagna for 2. When it first came out we were a little worried because it looked kind of small for a meal for two. The lasagna was good and quite filling. The gelato was excellent! The pumpkin gelato and carmel gelato were my favorites."
