  • "My wife and I really enjoyed dining there. Food and service was excellent. Had a wonderful experience."

  • "Trying to find a place around 10pm can be difficult but luckily this place was still open and we decided to try it. Kat was a great server/bartender, well versed on the menu and very helpful. Get the shrimp n crab beignets appetizer, very tasty. I wanted classic so we got étouffée and I loved it, and they can also kick it up a notch spice wise for those real Cajun eaters. They also serve cheese/andouille fries, outrageously delicious. The kicker was the dessert as we found a special creme brûlée that I had never seen on a menu, white choc macadamia brûlée, it rivals the brûlée specials I still remember while living in Europe."

  • "I came to this as a recommended Cajun/Southern restaurant and the menu certainly reflects that. I had a very good jambalaya though the catfish ordered by my friend was frankly rather bland. It was moist and nicely friend, but the batter was just... nothing. Overall, a recommended place though!"

  • "service, ambiance, especially the food is excellent, as always."

  • "Wouldn't have seen this spot in that little strip, lucky to have found some awesome Yelp reviews to lead me here. Seated earlier than my reservation, which was nice. Server was mildly attentive, but that's how these neighborhood spots go, she seemed to have a lot to talk about with other tables. It wasn't really a hindrance. Food made up for any tiny inconvenience, it was amazing and extremely authentic. The small dining room was attractively decorated if that matters to your dining experience, we enjoyed the shadowboxes. Would have loved to try dessert, but the entrées were too bountiful. We'll be back."

  • "We hadn't been to RTs in a while, and as we started eating, we asked ourselves, why not? The restaurant decor is definitely dated, but the food is outstanding. The crawfish beignet appetizer never fails to deliver. I had some leftover from my main course-combo shrimp and crawfish etouffe-and it was just as good the next day. I wouldn't go for the service or ambience, but the food is wonderful, if you like creole style, lots of seafood and delicous sauces."

  • "New Orleans' style cajun food isn't usually one of my favorites, but this place never disappoints. Actually, I can probably remember most of the dishes I've had there--in detail--because they are just that good. Take the chance on this off-the-beaten-path spot, and you will not regret it."

  • "I have dined episodically at RT's since the 1980s. I love it. First, it is simple: no airs; superb food; quiet; and great service. My server for the last 26+ years has usually been Susasn. She is perfection.. She cares about her guests. She always remembers me! Food is cooked to perfection and served perfectly. If someone wants good food with Louisianian ingredients and preparation, RT's is the only place outside Louisana where it can be had. Always sit at a table where Susan serves (although the other servers are good, too)."

  • "I grew up in Louisiana and love RT's version of Mom's dishes. I'm still looking for the dinner or appetizer that's not quite right. I've enjoyed the meal each time. Wish there was a little more room around the tables though."

  • "If you want authentic Cajun/Creole cooking without going to "Nawleans," RT's is the place. I ordered the crayfish, red beans & rice, one of RT's specials. What an answered prayer to my taste buds! The service was delightful. Note: there seemed to be an inordinate number of "regulars" In there, which to my mind, speaks volumes to the longstanding popularity of RT's. The waitstaff were personable and on the ball without hovering around. There was an impromptu walk- in party of 25 while I was there, which the waitstaff handled well. They needed my table for the party, and paid for my dessert (caramel custard, YUM!) in exchange for moving to another table. If I lived here, I would be one of the "regulars.""

  • "RTs is the place to enjoy the great taste of New Orleans cuisine without traveling to the Big Easy. Try the Sazerac … if you dare!"

  • "This restaurant is a MUST GO if you are in the Alexandria area. By far, the BEST restaurant I have had the pleasure to dine at in the area. The food is exquisite, especially the Crawfish & Shrimp Beignets, those were TO DIE FOR. No, I am not exaggerating. The steak I had as my entree was "melt in your mouth" delicious. The ambiance wasn't anything to rave about, but with out of this world food and first-rate service, it was irrelevant. Count me in as a frequent diner at this wonderful establishment."

  • "I've been going to RT's for over 25 years. It's an upscale pub. The food is excellent as are the wait staff. I love the crawfish dishes. The other seafood is always tasty. "

  • "Soft shell crab is one of my favorites, so when it was a special , I had to try RT's version. Crab was very meaty and nicely prepared. I was not disappointed. Accompanying vegetable of green beans was nicely seasoned, though a little over cooked for my taste."

  • "I read the reviews on this restaurant and they were great so we decided to try it while in the DC area. It's a pretty unassuming place and the ambiance is challenged but the food is fantastic. We tried several disches amongst the four of us and they were all very tasty. Great Find!"

  • "mussels with andouille sausage were very nice and the gumbo was great. nice she crab soup too. would have been even better if kids items came with a healthy side. but i will be coming back over and over for sure!"

  • "RTs has been a local favorite for years, and they always provide a great dining experience. The wait staff is knowledgeable and courteous, and the food simply outstanding. Worth a stop for those looking for excellent cajun seafood and other delicious entres. And...do not skip the chocolate chess pie for dessert. You will not be disappointed. There is adequate free parking in a lot across the street from this iconic neighborhood gem."

  • "Rt's is everything you want in a neighborhood 'joint' -- great food, casual atmosphere, the comfort of a familar dish after a busy week. It was my neighborhood joint more than 20 years ago and coming back is like coming home. Old favorites are still on the menu interspersed with some new and interesting dishes. But like an old friend, it may age a bit but rarely disappoints. The shrimp in the Jack Daniels shrimp are smaller than in the past and there is a bit less lump crab meat the the taste is everybit as breathtaking. The soft shells the night we were there looked that mutants -- the biggest fattest and more succulent we'd ever had. And still the best fried oysters in the region. I don't miss living in Alexandria but I sure miss RT's!"

  • "RTs has been one of our favorite places to go for a while now."

  • "New Orleans food is hard to find outside the Crescent City. That makes RT's rare. We loved the crab imperial, luxuriously creamy and utterly fresh. The tossed green salad with the mustard vinaigrette is as fine a salad as you'll find. When it comes to main courses, I always get the oysters nez pique - fried to a golden brown, topped with a brown roux-based sauce with tasso ham, seasonings that awaken the palate and rice that is the perfect vehicle for the gravy. My wife swears by the she-crab soup that is graced by a generous amount of lump crab meat. She delights in the chocolate mousse. Don't miss the Pabst on tap and the old fashions."

  • "We are visiting from Illinois and found restaurant on hotel area map we received. Checked out online and went. Great place persons like Al Gore and Bill Clinton have visited this restaurant, per waitress. We hope to go back before we leave DC. I recommend this restaurant. "

  • "A great casual neighborhood restaurant. Storefront shop opens to a bar in one room, and 2 large family friendly dining rooms. The shadowbox art on the walls is worth a serious look; it pops & brightens up dated booths & tables. Best, while the dining room was busy, the noise level was sufficiently low to make it possible to carry on conversation. Service was great; fast and friendly. The menu was primarily New Orleans and cajun style seafood (lots of Étouffée), yet broad enough to find something agreeable if you prefer turf to surf. My shrimp & rice dish had a great peppery bite to it; my friend's parchment cooked shellfish made her happy . Our order was served quickly; the presentation lovely. We will return."

  • "A real Cajun gem. Greeted by a very sweet barmaid named Kate. Makes a really mean martini. Cajun sea food done really well. Wait staff was exceptional. Attentive but not hovering over the table. Wine list was small but decent, Will return. Had a very enjoyable evening."

  • "If any place merits "Neighborhood Gem." this is it. Year after year, RT's is a reliable source for New Orleans-style food while others have come and gone. A chocolately roux (no tomato) underlies many dishes -- including the crawfish etouffee we can't seem to not order. The shrimp and crab beignets seemed more generous with the seafood but were lighter and greaseless with a delicious remoulade. Good attentive service. Serviceable selection of wines by the glass."

  • "Went to RTs after hearing how great the food was. Decided to order one of their specials that day, and while it was definitely yummy, the amount of salt was ridiculous (way too much). I believe my girlfriend enjoyed the jambalaya a lot more though and would have given it an outstanding rating. The salt was something I could have gotten over until... we were rushed out at the end. A waiter came by and asked if my girlfriend was done. She said sure, she'll take the rest home and eat it for lunch the next day. He says okay, takes the plate, and never returns with a box. A minute later, while the fork is in my hand, our table's waitress comes by and asks me if I'm done. I tell her "Almost" and she takes it away..."

  • "Friendly neighborhood place with excellent food; lively conversations at every table, and just enough noise so you can't hear what anybody else is saying. Perfect for Washington."

  • "While the food and service were very good the decor of the restaurant is frozen in the 1980's with drab green banquettes, blond wood, and outdated ceiling fans. Nothing has changed in 25 years and it is time for the interior of this restaurant to be as good as the food with a new layout, new color scheme and fresh accessories."
