Was not impressed by the dishes nor the ridiculously miniscule portions. For the price you pay, you could pretty much go to any other Italian restaurant and have a feast. Unfortunately, the celeb name behind the restaurant can only take it so far, the food simply has to be good, and it wasn't.

Buratta, fritto misto, and prosciutto were outstanding, while the eggplant polpettini was very disappointing (all filler, unable to identify eggplant). Our waiter, Anthony, was attentive and pleasant although not always timely in pouring our wine. This is the kind of place where one could dine 5 times and still not taste all the small-plates. Definitely a place to return but, as it seems destined to be a tourist hang-out, it could quickly lose the allure.

What a fun and cool new addition to the Chicago restaurant scene. Food was delicious other than the sole which was overly salted...but the waiter and manager took care of it without a question. The service was outstanding and it has a great ambience. In my humble opinion, I think RPM will fast become a classic Chicago restaurant.

Had a reservation for about 6 weeks. Not worth the hype or wait. Restaurant is beautiful. Simple shabby chic. Bar scene was vibrant. I would go back to sit in bar for some wine and small plates. The food was ok. Nothing special. Pasta was ok pizza ok nothing wow like I need to eat here again. Sorry guys. Maybe next time. But not making a reservation for six weeks from now to have that caliber of a meal! Hit the bar if you must.

It's a great space, wonderfully redecorated. The Giuliana salad and spaghetti are my favorites, but I was happy with everything we ordered. The cocktails are unique and delicious. It adds to the fun when the Rancic's are there. The only flaw is it's not advisable to linger too long as it gets crowded. Luckily, our server did not pressure us.

Understand it is a new restaurant and didn't expect perfection, but the service was not good. The packed bar had only 3 bartenders, so it took over 5 minutes to order a drink. Then our bottle of wine was not at the bar, so it took another 10 minutes to get the bottle. Once at our table, it took over 10 minutes for our server to appear.

I have mixed feelings about this place; the food is good, just don't go when you are too hungry because you don't get a lot. I paid $20 for mushroom risotto and it was gone in literally 6 bites. The place is also trying a bit too hard to seem trendy, we ended up eating next to a DJ booth which was somewhat distracting. On the other hand the service was exceptional. So if you've got some extra money to burn and want to feel 'hip' this is your place, otherwise there are much better options nearby for italian (check out Rosebud or even Maggiano's) .

  • Italian joint or celebrity spot?
    OpenTable Diner Since 2001
    Dined on 3/28/2012
My wife and I weren't sure if this was going to be a celebrity restaurant or more of a down-home Italian spot (she is a big Guiliana fan and thought it might be called "Mama DiPandi's"). It turned out to be a "see and be seen" celebrity restaurant and both of us found the food good but unexceptional (I had lobster ravioli and she had something called "spicy crab" with green noodles). I didn't dislike it but think it will go the way of most celebrity places- it will be packed while it's hot but gone shortly afterward.

This has easily become my new favorite Chicago hot spot (as well as my boyfriend's- who is much harder to please!) I went for my birthday last Tuesday, and the experience was nothing short of amazing. The service was outstanding & I was even lucky enough to receive a birthday greeting from Mr. Rancic himself! We both shared a few of the small plates & pasta- the lobster caprase salad & the spicy king crab pasta were both amazing. All of the dishes we tried had a fresh twist on Italian food & definitely stood out from other Italian places in the area. The coconut gelato was also to die for! I came here on account of being big fans of G&B and was interested in seeing the end-result of their restaurant endeavors. Although it's not what I was expecting, I cannot complain about the quality of food. A bit overpriced, but delicious nonetheless. The kale salad, truffle bread, and classic spaghetti were all amazing. Parmesan potatoes were nothing special. For dessert, I got the cannolis, which was a light and tasty option. Everyone has been raving about the tartufo, which is very comparable to an oversized Ferrero Rocher or ice cream Crunch bar, but it was much too overwhelming and rich for me.

After watching the development of this restaurant on the Rancic's show, I was anxious to visit. They (with the help of the Melman's) really knocked it out of the park! The food is fabulous, authentic Italian. Lots of wonderful small plates and tempting entree's. We sampled 9 plates at our table and EVERYTHING was wonderful. The decor is sophisticated, the service was terrific and the prices are great! We can't wait to go back as we feel like we want to try everything on the menu! In sum, the food was excellent, however the portions were far to small for my liking. We ordered a fish appetizer and it literally consisted of tiny bites of fish with some chick peas on the side. The spaghetti and meatballs were excellent as well as the wood grilled octopus. The atmopshere was really trendy (we saw Brian Urlacher there) but not snooty. I recommend this restaurant, but if you aren't prepared to spend a week's paycheck here, be prepared to leave a bit hungry.
