Diner Reviews
  • "The noise level was too high. At the end of the evening when we were nearly the last in the the ding room we could finally stop yelling at each other. The macadamia nut crusted Mahi Mahi was good, the scallops were good. The Bone-in Spencer steak was swimming in a mediocre brown sauce. The Teppanyaki Shrimp the Shrimp were cooked perfectly. The rice noodles were flavorless. The Pineapple upside down cake with coconut ice-cream is a winner as well as the caramel sauce mac-nut tart. The coffee bread pudding was disappointing. The Lobster Pot stickers were half deep fried, half a gummy mess, no lobster flavor and a total FAILURE. The appetizer roll with Wabu Beef and Shiso micro greens, Lakanilau Roll was also real winner."

  • "The Mango Mojito was great and I couldn't stop at one. Food: very good also"

  • "My family and I love Roy's. They have a great gluten free menu. The service is always great. I, especially, love the blackened Ahi for an appetizer, the braised short ribs for entree, and the flour less dark chocolate soufflé is amazing!"

  • "The food was okay. The fish was a bit dry. The desserts--especially the chocolate peanut butter soufflee--were amazing. We had a group of 5 for my niece's 22nd birthday and the waiter was super-accommodating in taking photos with our smart phones. The restaurant actually gifts you with a fun birthday photo at the end of the meal."

  • "I used to dream about the food at Roy's When he first got started in Honolulu. Loved going to that little shack off Cocohead. Had brunch for Mothers Day in Woodland Hills and although they tried to present a gourmet treat everything was just "OKAY" For $40 a person we expected more. I'll go back for dinner and stick with the Asian Fusion cuisine. Haven't written them off yet. Although the Roy's in Kaanapali, Maui was a disappointment. There were several large Asian families in W.H. For brunch. usually a good sign. They we're ordering the Asian cuisine. My advice is stick to that."

  • "Happy hour specials are great. Would love a more expanded menu though. Great prices! Scallops were great, as was the Mac and cheese. My mom thought the butterfish was too salty for her liking. But other fish in the trio were tasty."

  • "Celebrated our 22nd Anniversary here! Excellent service, and food as always. We were given a special dessert for our anniv. Ambience also very nice."

  • "There were only 3 scallops served as an entree; felt more like an appetizer. For over $30, I was expecting perhaps 5/6 scallops and they weren't even that big. I have been to this restaurant many times and this was the first time I had the scallops."

  • "This restaurant is lovely. My husband and I have been dining here for a few year now, and every time we come we try to have something different. However, it always exceeds my expectations and more. The food is amazing, and love the decor."

  • "Taylor made our dining experience a wonderful one! We went early, had a quiet table in the back of the restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. Of course we saved room for lava cake! We shall be back soon."

  • "The food was excellent. The drinks were excellent. Believe in or not, the service was even better than that! Roy's is my new "go to" restaurant!"

  • "Tim escorted us to the table and Samantha was our server. Both were "excellent". They, and the food, are positive reasons to visit again. Thanks for a wonderful dinning experience."

  • "We dined on a Sunday evening. Early. People began filtering in. Everyone was alert and wished us a Happy Anniversary. Our waiter Taylor was prompt and helpful. ROY'S TRIO was great main course choice. We had nothing negative to say about this very pleasant event."

  • "Overall, the staff was quite friendly and our waiter, Taylor, was excellent. Their gluten free menu felt limited, however. Match that with small portions & lofty pricing, one can look elsewhere for an intimate dining experience."

  • "Everything was very good, would go back again….had to request bread which is a very delicious pretzel bread but only got 2 little pieces, only complaint! :)"

  • "I've been to this Roy's location many times and usually order the same thing. The appetizers and dessert have been consistent but the entree (Butterfish) was lacking. Pretty sure the presentation changed from the last time I ordered it (about one year ago), which included a smaller portion. The main problem I had, though, was the quality of the fish. It was a little burned and way over-marinated. My wife, who ordered the same dish noticed the same thing. It was markedly different from the last time in a bad way. I'll have to reconsider Roy's as our go-to for celebrating occasions, especially after forking over about $160 after tip. The quality of the fish just didn't do it for me this time around. "

  • "The cuisine was outstanding! Far exceeded my expectations. I hadn't been to Roy's in ages... The place was packed, even for 5:45 but it wasn't distracting from the wonderful dinner."
    Dined on 5/17/2014
  • "My wife & I were commenting this latest visit to Roy's how much we like the fact that Roy's adds new items to the menu pretty frequently. You can always get the old favorites, but it seems there's always something new (and good) to try. Make sure to order a specialty drink as well, they are delicious!"

  • "Not so great waiter. If there is anything I hate it's watching my food sitting finished and having to make eye contact with the waiter, like go get my food. Mediocre waiters at a mediocre resteraunt Roy's falling to the waist side."
    Dined on 5/15/2014
  • "We mentioned on OpenTable at the time of the booking that it was our anniversary, and they were so kind to customize the menu. Every member of the staff seemed to know it was our special occasion, and they all wished us well."

  • "Was there at dinner for Mother's Day. The place was packed, however the service was impeccable - we felt like we were the only guests. The timing of our food was great, the taste was perfect - nothing was compromised due to the special day. Never felt rushed, just the opposite - we felt welcome and that our business was appreciated. There are many choices out there, but Roy's is always on the top of our list. Thank you!"

  • "Had a great time, top notch service all around, the food was spectacular, we will be going back for sure!"

  • "Mother's Day brunch was a sad state of affairs - underwhelming appetizers to over cooked chicken and tasteless ribeyes. Wait staff were more concerned about the time of day than how much food went back to the kitchen. Sadly not even the wandering manager saw our finished plates and offered to clear them...I guess there are other people for that Roy's is good typically for dinner with service to match Mother's Day was a waste of my "mothers day""

  • "My wife's favorite "special occasion" restaurant never fails. Great place to meet friends and family; noise level is appropriate for conversations and the food is always good. Service is wonderful with friendly and cheerful staff."
    Dined on 5/10/2014
  • "Our dining experience was okay. The food is pretty good, but touristy. As a true seafood lover, I prefer my seafood not tarted up in silly ways. The meat dishes were very good - filet mignon, pork belly dumpling and short ribs were all great. The desert was excellent - pineapple upside down cake and a chocolate souffle (which was actually a molten chocolate cake). The service was attentive, but too quick. The servers were trying to remove our dishes before we were finished. The cocktails were weakly made. It was like dining in Downtown Disney: slightly overpriced and touristy."

  • "One of the things that always stands out about Roy's is its service. The food was fabulous as usual, but the service really stands out."

  • "Everyone from the hostess to the waitress, to the Maitre d, to the bus boys were attentive, polite, and did their jobs well. The restaurant was even nice enough to print up the first page in the menu wishing me a happy birthday. They also gave ma a complementary chocolate brownie with fresh fruit for dessert. We ate only appetizers and sushi rolls, but everything was delicious and presented lovely. Highly recommend this restaurant for those looking for a little twist on Asian and sushi cuisine."

  • "We had a wonderful time, celebrating two birthdays at Roy's. They printed a birthday message to my wife and our friend inside the menu. The food was great, the sushi was wonderfully fresh, and the service was fantastic."

  • "My first visit I tried the black cod, which was excellent. This time I had the mussels w/ coconut curry as an appetizer and the seared ahi as the main course. The mussels were done perfectly and the curry was very tasty. The seared ahi was wonderful, with a surprise soy-mustard sauce that included wasabi, and pickled ginger on top. The dish was a great way to introduce something close to nigiri sushi to those who might be slightly squeamish."

  • "Their service was amazing! From the beginning they wished my mother a happy birthday and they went above and beyond to help us out. From substituting coconut milk in the coffee to bringing a complimentary dessert for my mom's birthday to taking our photo and giving us a copy… the night was amazing. For the food: the scallops were by far the best. then the wagyu sushi. the wagyu roll was ok… i would rather do more Nigiri pieces though. Miso soup was good but I can pass on it next time. the Roy's trio had a great combo of fish, the COD being my personal favorite. The Canoe appetizer is a must for a group"

  • "Always busy for a reason, great service consistently and amazing food. My favorite is Lobster pot stickers to start, the out of this world Butter Fish and the Chocolate Soufflé. Love their combination appetizer platters and the pre fixe menus when they offer them - great value."

  • "I took my wife and two kids to the restaurant for her birthday. They personalized the menu with a happy birthday message for all of us, brought a chef special appetizer over, and ended the dinner with a small dessert. Roy's clearly understands customer service and how to make things special. I had the Ahi which was perfectly prepared with a light sauce. We all had a great experience and the food was awesome."
