Diner Reviews
  • "Absolutely superb food and the wait staff was the best I've seen. Top notch restaurant. The food and experience make it one of the best around."

  • "Roy's is worth a visit where ever you are. We are never disappointment. Food preparation is always fantastic, the flavors are wonderful. And who can resist dessert!"

  • "It was great to use open table for our reservation. We've eaten here many times and always find consistently excellent food. The scallops were perfect. Portions are ample. Never a slip up in service. Just all around great dining experience."

  • "Every bite was pure perfection and the location and views are superb!"

  • "For a Restaurant of your level, on a dining setting, all tables should have tablecloth, not just a few tables, should provide a basket of bread & butter not just a single very hard roll per person, (having to ask for it), on a $ 42.00 bottle of Riesling wine you should provide a bottle of wine with a cork (I would even settle for a synthetic cork) not a twist off cap (very embarrassing for the customer). Hopefully these comments are as constructive criticism to help out a great establishment, the food was great and the service very good just need polishing from management training, providing managers notice these details."

  • "The experience of booking dinner reservations online is a great idea! Everything was seasoned perfectly with so much flavor. I recommend the beef tataki, ahi poke and the shrimp for starters. The boneless kalbi shortribs and 16oz steak was fantastic! If we could go just for desert we would because the pineapple upside down cake and chocolate souffle was amazing! The prices on the menu were reasonable. What makes this particular Roy's unique is the location and most of all the Aloha of the staff. From the time we walked in, service was very professional and sincere."

  • "The greeter at the door was very pleasant and professional. The table had a nice view of the lake and the the waiter gave use our menus and the prefix meal menus for the evening. The waiter had sampled the prefix meal and gave us his rendering of what was good. The prefix meal was a one time deal for the month and it was very very good. The wine that was paired with it was done well. My wife had the Mai Tai and would say it is the best on the Big Island. The overall cost of a meal for two was $150.00 for the both of use together. That is a three course meal with desert and alcohol drinks. I thought it was a good value for the overall meal and experience."

  • "The food was delicious! More importantly all waitstaff were so friendly and efficient. Restaurant a little noisy but it didn't detract from our great meal to celebrate my husband's birthday."

  • "THE WAITER WAS PROFESSIONAL AND QUITE KNOWLEGIBLE ABOUT WINES AND SELECTION. KEPT US WELL SERVED WITHOUT BEING TO INRUSIVE."

  • "As soon as we walked into Roy's we were greeted with hello and a Happy Birthday to the 18 year old birthday teen who's birthday we were celebrating. I had reserved online with a request for a special dessert. Our food was delicious, the fish i ordered was very yummy. Our waitress and food server were efficient and friendly. At the end, they did indeed bring us a special chocolate fudgy dessert that wasn't on the menu. If I lived in Hawaii, I would eat there often!"

  • "My husband and I have eaten at Roy's in Chicago, Maui and Kauai, enjoying every meal! While visiting the Big Island we ate at Roy's Waikoloa Bar and Grill-DELICIOUS! Excellent service and food! Hope we have an opportunity to return before heading to Maui to join up with our grown children and grandchildren."

  • "Whenever there is a rise in any city Whatever city we are visiting, we try to have dinner at Roy's. Here on the big Island of Hawaii we took our 13-year-old grandson to dinner. He loved the scallops. And molten chocolate cake. The restaurant is very busy and is quite exceptional."

  • "This was my eighth visit but my first review. I love their food, the seafood is terrific. Lots of great appetizers, pot stickers were delicious."

  • "This place usually rocks! This time was good - however, I had the chef's recommended wine pairing with each course and the waiter was behind with the wine every time. I had almost finished my dinner when the wine arrived - and I went slow to wait for him and had to ask twice. Also, the meat has to rest after you cook it - so after it sat on my plate for a few minutes it was a lot better than it was in pre-mature delivery. The beans were undercooked and hard to chew but sure tasted good - eek! Usually a great experience - this time was less."

  • "As usual, the food quality and service were outstanding. Presentation of the food and prompt service continue to be the hallmark of Roy's."

  • "Good food and atmosphere was awesome..we enjoyed our dining at your restaurant and you had a lot if choices for dinner"

  • "I expected better food. The potstickers were good and their poke was okay. The short ribs although tender had minimal taste. Fish was good but didn't like the braised daikon. Dessert was good - worh waiting 30 minutes for. Been there, done that - would not go again for a special occasion."

  • "The ambience was stunning, service impeccable (professional and attentive staff, your drink remained filled, no empty plate was left behind on your table, every need was met) & the menu provided a variety of healthy choices including gluten free options which is fantastic & rare, especially in fine dinning. The food was absolutly delicious & the aesthetics & presentation was phenomenal. Such a perfect experience from start to finish!"

  • "We really enjoyed the food at Roy's but it was filled with families and large groups. The noise level was high and it was definitely not a romantic type atmosphere. The food though was good as well as the service."

  • "We visited Roy's while staying in Waikaloa and had a wonderful experience. We were seated promptly, immediately acknowledged and given some edamame to gnosh while reviewing the menu. The Prix Fixe menu changes daily and is very reasonably priced for the quality. The chocolate souffle is peerless! The only downside to the restaurant is the noise level which does impact quiet conversation. We will absolutley return on our next visit to the Big Island"

  • "Had another great meal at Roy's. They never disappoint."

  • "Odd vibe in this place. The maître'd was quite ignorant and cold. The staff looked like they were on edge, and the encrusted tuna my husband had was so hot (and he looooves chilli) that he couldn't eat it. Disappointed"

  • "We celebrated our 30th at Roy's while vacationing in Hawaii and had a wonderful time and great food. We both had the dinner with win pairings and were very pleased. We had a nice selection of foods and wines."

  • "Easy to get reservations, seated promptly. The restaurant was packed, but service was great and so was food. It was very loud, but as the evening wore on the crowd thinned and the noise level was better. Can't goo wrong with Roy's"

  • "I have been to Roy's many times, but I never took our children. Roy's has an outstanding kids menu and it's reasonably priced. All of us had a great experience at Roy's Waikoloa."

  • "The portion size keeps shrinking and the prices increasing. We split a salad and got about two bites each. The short rib which used to be my favorite was a good portion but was dry and seemed overcooked. The server was cordial but refills for drinks were not offered. She reviewed the menu well, but after that was not very attentive. We've been to five Roy's both on the mainland and in Hawaii. This used to be one of our favorites, but no more."

  • "We've lived in Waikoloa for a year and a half now and this was our first dining experience at Roy's. Boy, have we been missing out! We decided to give it a try for our anniversary and couldn't have been more pleased. The entire service staff was very thorough and attentive. Our server Dustin was very knowledgeable about the menu and explained how many of the items were prepared. Our water glasses never got less than half full before they were filled and dirty plated were cleared almost immediately. Wait times for food were short, food was presented beautifully and tasted fantastic! My husband had the duck, I opted for the shrimp. Portion size was just right! We were even treated with a custom complimentary dessert for our occasion"

  • "Service was great; ambiance wonderful; presentation beautiful; food creative and delicious. What else could you ask for?"
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "We were a party of 4 who all ordered from the Prix Fixe menu. We all enjoyed the food immensely and my boys thought the Macadamia Tart was superb. Service was a bit off as wine pairings did not arrive with the courses. No complaints at all about the food. The ambience is certainly "iffy" for a restaurant of this calibre though. We were seated between an elegantly dressed couple and a group who looked as if they had just come up off the beach. I realize this is Hawaii and most people are on holiday, but the implementation of a dress code would also change the ambience. Maybe I'm just getting old and stuffy? Go for the food - just don't expect the whole fine dining experience!"

  • "Great food. Seated two tables of small children on either side of us. For the cost, not too happy about that."
    Dined on 6/19/2014
  • "We first encountered Roy's 20 years ago on Maui. The food was inventive and very good, so we were looking forward to this visit. The server was very good, but that's where our enthusiasm ended. The food was pretty much undistingished. We had the macadamia encrusted mahi mahi and the Szechuan baby back ribs and shrimp combo. We wouldn't recommend either. The shrimp tasted like they were old. Too bad."

  • "Very accommodating to our needs! Provided great suggestions for 8 people resulting in terrific food and services."

  • "As has been the case in all the Roy's we have visited (including Las Vegas and Palm Springs) the food was superb and our waiter was terrific (we have a soft spot in our hearts for Jersey boys). I'm still thinking about the scrumptious pineapple upside down cake dessert I consumed. Ironically, our only criticism is that the atmosphere and decor of the restaurant, which is on the Big Island of Hawaii, was decidedly less engaging than the other Roy's we've visited. This may have something to do with the somewhat dated complex in which the restaurant stands."

  • "We celebrated our 51st Anniversary with a dinner at Roy's Bar & Grill in Waikoloa Resorts. The reservation system worked very well and our table was waiting for us when we arrived. The table was by the view windows overlooking the water feature. Very nice. The service was excellant from the hostess, the waiter, and the water boys. We were taken care of very well. The meal was excellant. I had the butterfish and my wife had the salmon. Both were prepared well and had nice presentation. The desserts were delicious! We both had the chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream. It had to be ordered 20 minutes ahead of time which worked out well as it came piping hot right on time."
