  • "I usually don't like fusion food but I thought the food at Roy's was delicious for fusion food. The flavors were there and nothing overwhelming or out of taste. We had the appetizer plate for 2 which had a lot of food on it and all tasted really good. We also had the flying dragon roll and the tiger roll and both were good. The entrees were prawns with fettuccine and macadamia crusted monchong. We had the chocolate souffle for desert. The only negative about the restaurant for me was the noise level was really high, only because the restaurant was packed."

You can't go wrong with the fish especially the butterfish (wow) and the sauces that accompanied were creative and complemented very nicely. Save room for dessert. The chocolate soufflé is worth every calorie."

  • "Trying to decide how best to spend our last night in Hawaii was a no-brainer...it had to be Roy's! Having researched the great dining options prior to my trip I really wanted to create a lasting impression on my companion. Choosing Roy's ticked all the right boxes. The service by all staff, including our server Dean, has to be commended. Talk about first class and extremely friendly! Made us both feel like long time customers rather than first timers. Can't forget the food & the extensive wine list. In the end we chose the sashimi sampler, steamed opah & grilled shrimp with all three blowing us away with the flavours & texture! Anyone visiting Hawaii simply has to make sure Roy's is on top of the must do list!"

  • "We came to Hawaii for our 10th anniversary and the folks at Roy's made it very memorable. The scallops were divine; served crusted with sesame on a bed of rice and pork broth. We also ordered the Macadamia Nut crusted Opah. This was good as well but the scallops were definitely the star of the show. The butterfish as an appetizer was as good as the other people's reviews describe it. I would definitely come back here again. Plus you know the restaurant cares about customer service, our waiter gave us a free "replacement" dessert without us prompting because our chocolate souffle looked a little over done. The replacement was superb. My wife had already eaten half of the first one and couldn't fully enjoy the second. I did though!"

  • "Reviews glowed so I booked in the hope of being blown away, but we did not find any standout dishes...except the crabcakes! Butter sauce was plate licking-worthy! Restaurant had no real décor or ambience and the meal felt rushed because it was so busy and the bus boy was leaning over us (still eating) to clear away dishes."

  • "Restaurant is aesthetically pleasing and staff welcoming. We were seated in a booth which suited us. Prices are reasonable. We decided to go with the tasting menu, which gave us an assortment of food to try without re-reading the menu a hundred times. Tasting menu included Starters, Entree and dessert. The food came out quickly. All the food was great. Our favourite was the dessert - chocolate soufflé. Top 3 of the best chocolate soufflé we have ever had. The staff are friendly and attentive. If you feel like treating yourself to fine dining, this is a good place to go."

  • "This restaurant was recommended to us for good sushi, and we were not disappointed. The staff provided excellent service & the food arrived in a reasonable amount of time. There were only two issues I had with this restaurant. The first issue was the reservation system. Their web site sends you to OpenTable, which worked fine, but told us that the only two slots available for the day we wanted were 5:15 and 9:00 pm. We took the early one as we had an early day the following morning. When we got there at 5:15 the place was almost empty. By the end of dinner an hour later the place was still only half full. Needless to say we were more than a little annoyed by this. The other issue was that the prices were on the higher end for what you get."

  • "This is the newest Roy's that my husband and I have tried. The staff is knowledgable and friendly. Though located on a busy corner in Waikiki, the restaurant has done a good job of isolating diners from the street noise and has also created a comfortable atmosphere with an open kitchen. Roy's at Waikiki gets the gold star award for their version of the Hawaiian Martini. The liquor soaked pineapple spear (not allowed by law in other locations) sets it apart from all others. Makes up for a fairly limited wine list. My menu favorites are the Waima-Nalo salad and the Misoyaki Butterfish. Excellent! My husband's Capresse and Macnut crusted Opah was good. Would definitely recommend this restaurant though it could be a bit pricey for a family."

  • "We were celebrating our anniversary. The chocolate souffle (warm and crusty with a beautiful chocolate surprise in the middle) is a must and on top of that, our server brought us a chocolate raspberry torte decorated with "Happy 31st anniversary, Love from Roy's" (free on the house). We loved the friendly aloha of the wait-staff. Our server definitely knew her menu and convinced us to try the scallops with risotto. Yummy! The presentation of the food was extraordinary ... the only down side was I thought that one of the slices of miso butterfish was a tad bit undercooked. A wonderful dinner to celebrate a milestone. Roy's was a bustling place, however, and not the quiet romantic spot that some might have chosen."

  • "We have been to Hawaii 3 times and have dined at Roy's 6 times. After our first year there, we book ahead before we leave for our first night in Hawaii and we have our last dinner there before heading off to airport. The food is exceptional, the staff are amazing and on our last visit my husband was completely bowled over by the lady whom came and re folded my napkin and replaced our six year olds ( while we were at the toilets) and found out she was the general manager, she moves chairs, tables, nothing is below her. An amazingly run restaurant which delivers on food and service every single time. I recommend it to anyone going to waikiki. We love it"

  • "I saw Roy's on the cover of a magazine when I arrived in Oahu. Being in the cover....I decided to take a chance. My chance proved worth the risk. I tried the sushi, fish, and braised short ribs. I was not disappointed by anything I tried. And no meal is complete without dessert. I ordered the chocolate souffle. One word, amazing. Glad to know it's one close to home in Baltimore."

  • "What can you say? It's Roys! Excellent food quality and combinations (as usual) but unusually tucked away in the Helumoa Road area of Waikiki so not as prominently placed as the Hawaii Kai Roys. Dress was a little less formal because of location/tourist population but restaurant atmosphere itself was formal/upscale. Outside tropical bar great for people-watching and reservations a must; manager said its the most frequented of all the Roys restaurants."

We have dined at Roy's on Maui, at Sumerlin in Vegas, in San Francisco, San Diego, etc. and this one is the most energetic. The noise level can be a bit loud, but we had a booth this time which was a bit quieter."

  • "I had heard great things about Roy's. I was told that this was a "must go to"restaurant while in Hawaii. I got the scallops over risotto in a broth that they poured into my dish, a nice added touch, my mom got the beach trio it came with salmon, Mekajiki, butterfish which melted in your mouth and my dad got the slow cooked short rib that fell apart. We had a wonderful night and the food was Devine! The service was superb! This is a pricey restaurant worth every dollar and penny! Roy Yamaguchi founded this restaurant and appeared on Iron chef!"

  • "The evening started early for us with the sun still out and a lovely bottle of Champagne. The service was impeccable with attention to detail. Food fantastic. Every dish had not too much of anything. Highly recommendable. Make a reservation and if you go slightly early you're guaranteed the best!!!"
