Diner Reviews
  • "and it won't be my last. Roy's Waikiki can be for special occasions, group parties, family dinners or tourists, too."

  • "We had eaten here before and brought friends. First hint it might not be so great was seating - we were early and restaurant empty - they took us to dark and lousy location and we would not sit there but she had to back to front for permission too be us but it still wasn't great. Waitress was not friendly, did not describe things well, seemed irritated that we asked. Then it took more than half hour between courses, poor experience. I've been to various Roy's and always enjoyed it but not sure I'll go back."

  • "We came here for our anniversary dinner. We chose it based on ratings but it did not live up to our expectations. From the cocktails to the butterfish, everything was a bit lacking. The molten chocolate cake is the only reason I'd go back. And the service was great-- our wait or was very pleasant and attentive."

  • "Had a great anniversary dinner at Roy's. Great sushi, entrees were perfect. Dessert was wonderful. Service was outstanding. This a new favorite."

  • "We were a couple and sat outside, the ambience was very nice with the lights in the trees. The staff were excellent and very knowledgable on the food and wine.."

  • "The tasting menu was great. Paired with wine, actually a good value for the location. Excellent service."

  • "service at Roys is always 1st class, food is always amazing. Roy never misses the mark!"

  • "Service is incredible. Literally the best service I've received at any restaurant and I've eaten at restaurants throughout the US and parts of the world. They go out of their way without being asked to - from helping you take a stroller down the stairs when they see it to bringing your child a small plate of quesadillas, apples, and other snacks without asking. Beyond kid friendly, incredibly friendly, amazing food that has bursting flavors and some great cocktails too. Can't beat Roy's. Definitely a must when in Hawaii - and we will be back"

  • "The macadamia crusted mongchong was excellent. We were prepared that the meal would be the most expensive we chose while in Waikiki. 2 entrees and 1 desert totaled $80 (before tip). It was a great meal and in our opinion worth the splurge. We had a 7:45 reservation and were seated by 7:30."

  • "I've been to Roy's Waikiki twice. On both occasions, my meal was perfect. I'm thinking of returning on this trip so that I can order other items from the menu."

  • "I dined at Roy's a year ago, and I had a great dining experience. This experience was not the same. The host staff members did not acknowledge me for 30 seconds after I approached the podium. They casually asked for my name, but they did not bother greeting me. The server was polite and friendly, but he made cursory menu suggestions. The food was plated attractively, but the food was served lukewarm. The price point was nearly $300 with tip for a party of four guests. I would be hesitant to return to Roy's based on this experience."

  • "We have never had poor service, less than great food or leaving with a feeling of wanting more...."

  • "Short version: Been to this Roy's many times - always excellent. Longer Version - Roy's is one favorite for my companion, so had to come here while in Honolulu. 4.5 stars. Service was outstanding, we left nothing on the plates. My companion had the crispy whole snapper - excellent. I had the beach trio which my companion "stole" my mahi mahi - again nothing left. Only minor gripe was they drowned my salmon in too much sauce - but it was still good. Would we go back - yes. Roy's is always consistent."

  • "Topped off vacation to Honolulu with dinner at Roy's. Ordered from the prix fixe menu - 3 sampler appetizer, braised beef short ribs and chocolate desert - all delicious and mouth watering! Servers attentive and helpful!"

  • "We have been dining with Roy's (the original in Hawaii Kai) since '84 and now here in Waikiki since it opened! Partner Diva and GM Lou run a tight ship and this place rocks! The service is some of the finest anywhere in the entire industry and the food always fresh, exciting and delicious! Everything is yummy from Sushi Rolls, to legendary Blackened Ahi, Crab Cakes and don't miss the Butterfish! Of course, the hot chocolate souffle is to die for. Reservations a must! Though we love to sit at the bar and watch the world go bye! Rarely gets better than Roys!!"

  • "Roy's Waikiki staff embodies good customer service! Our food servers were great - friendly and very personable. The waiters for our table gave us excellent customer service and made sure we had everything we needed, kept our water glasses filled and promptly boxed our leftovers. They helped make our special occasion dining experience especially memorable with the surprise of a slice of cake (with a candle!) for my daughter who was celebrating her birthday! She loves going to Roy's Waikiki whenever she's visiting in Hawaii."

  • "Our wait staff was very friendly and explained the menu in detail. They even have us a special dessert for our honeymoon celebration ! Food was phenomenal!"

  • "Will not go back. The food was okay but not worth $50.00. I will not go back.. I will not go back ever. I will never go back again..."

  • "Great food, well presented and tasty. Staff is very friendly and professional"

  • "The service was spectacular. Everyone was very inviting and attentive. The food was sublime and our server was knowledgeable about all of it. The prices were moderate, but for the quality of the food and service, you get a good value for your money."

  • "As you walk in everybody greets you with a nice welcome. When you are leaving you get a nice thank you for coming from each person as you pass by. Very attentive staff. Always checking to see if every thing was ok refilling our water etc. as well as asking if there is anything else that we may need."

  • "The food was amazing and the service was first class. Would definitely recommend Roy's for lunch or dinner"

  • "Roy's Butterfish is consistently the best fish I have ever eaten. I am hard pressed to order other items because it is just that good. Pineapple Upside Down Cake is also quite good as are the Fresh Pineapple Martinis. The service is wonderful, very attentive. We have never been to a Roy's that we didn't like but this location is our favorite. Manager Diva and waiter Hoku make it a particularly enjoyable experience."

  • "Following good recommendations we visited Roy's and were not disappointed. Attentive, polite service; fresh, perfectly seasoned food (a mix of fish and ribs between us). A great desert too. Best meal we had in our stay in Waikiki. Not cheap but good value."
    Dined on 8/5/2014
  • "Fabulous fusion menu. Best meal we enjoyed during our recent stay in Waikiki. We were a group of four so tried various appetisers and main dishes and all were outstanding. Enjoyed Roy's famous martins Easy online booking service!"
    Dined on 8/4/2014
  • "The price is a little pricy but the food and the service worth every penny! My whole family enjoy the dining experience from the beginning till the end."
    Dined on 8/3/2014
  • "Every bite we had was delectable--there just wasn't enough of them and the service was on the slow side--although still very warm and full of Aloha. We got a $45 bottle of sparkling wine, a miniscule $17 appetizer, and a $33 and $38 main course and after tip our bill was $167. So $83.50 per person--that is a bit high don't you think? Wine stemware also needs to be upgraded. I would recommend people to try, but probably wouldn't return since I left a litte bit hungry."

  • "We ate at Roy's several times during our recent visit to Honolulu. Chris S. was our favorite waiter, took extremely great care of us and all of our needs. He is very funny dude, while maintaining an extremely professional manner. In our book, it is a toss up between the Butter Fish or the Monchun Fish specials. Both were great."

  • "Roys was rated first among seafood restaurants in Honolulu. We went out of our way to go there and found it noisy, crowded, and expensive for just okay food."
    Dined on 7/29/2014
  • "The food is really really good. I LOVE the short ribs and the prix fixe meal is really amazingly delicious and well-priced! The children's menu is very balanced and offers a good selection. Service was impeccable; it was better than some five star restaurants I've been to with their real attention to detail and a great manager at the helm!"
    Dined on 7/28/2014
  • "Very noisy restaurant but that's because it's a hotspot for tourists. Was a bit disappointed that some of the food options that are found on the mainland menus weren't available at this location."
    Dined on 7/26/2014
  • "I usually don't like fusion food but I thought the food at Roy's was delicious for fusion food. The flavors were there and nothing overwhelming or out of taste. We had the appetizer plate for 2 which had a lot of food on it and all tasted really good. We also had the flying dragon roll and the tiger roll and both were good. The entrees were prawns with fettuccine and macadamia crusted monchong. We had the chocolate souffle for desert. The only negative about the restaurant for me was the noise level was really high, only because the restaurant was packed."

  • "If you're looking, Roy's is your place. Amazing butterfish, big portions. Great drink choices and a friendly staff"
    Dined on 7/25/2014
  • "Service is impeccable and the food is outstanding! We plan to eat here every time in Waikiki and they never disappoint. Great experience and we love the food. Have eaten at other Roy's, but this location outdoes them all!"
    Dined on 7/25/2014
  • "The bar outside was nice and they had good drinks and an excellent bat tender. We went there to try the sushi and it was nasty. The appetizers were good but they didn't stack up to Roys in guam at all. Don't believe the yelp comments this place is a tourist hype trap."
    Dined on 7/25/2014
  • "A friend and I were in Waikiki celebrating my birthday. I decided that my birthday dinner would be at Roy's. They seated us immediately. Server addressed us immediately. Food was great. I will be sure to go again if I am ever in Waikiki!"

  • "Was here for our special honeymoon dinner; food was very very good! The staff is very knowledgable and welcoming and the management made us feel at home and helped us have a wonderful celebratory dinner!"
    Dined on 7/22/2014
  • "Went here for my birthday dinner. Service & food were excellent. It was a bit pricey but it was worth it. We had the macadamia encrusted mahi mahi and the braised beef ribs as part of the 3 course meal. The desserts were awesome. Highly recommend the chocolate souffle and the macadamia nut tart.tart"
