Diner Reviews
  • "Topped off vacation to Honolulu with dinner at Roy's. Ordered from the prix fixe menu - 3 sampler appetizer, braised beef short ribs and chocolate desert - all delicious and mouth watering! Servers attentive and helpful!"

  • "We have been dining with Roy's (the original in Hawaii Kai) since '84 and now here in Waikiki since it opened! Partner Diva and GM Lou run a tight ship and this place rocks! The service is some of the finest anywhere in the entire industry and the food always fresh, exciting and delicious! Everything is yummy from Sushi Rolls, to legendary Blackened Ahi, Crab Cakes and don't miss the Butterfish! Of course, the hot chocolate souffle is to die for. Reservations a must! Though we love to sit at the bar and watch the world go bye! Rarely gets better than Roys!!"

  • "Roy's Waikiki staff embodies good customer service! Our food servers were great - friendly and very personable. The waiters for our table gave us excellent customer service and made sure we had everything we needed, kept our water glasses filled and promptly boxed our leftovers. They helped make our special occasion dining experience especially memorable with the surprise of a slice of cake (with a candle!) for my daughter who was celebrating her birthday! She loves going to Roy's Waikiki whenever she's visiting in Hawaii."

  • "Our wait staff was very friendly and explained the menu in detail. They even have us a special dessert for our honeymoon celebration ! Food was phenomenal!"

  • "Will not go back. The food was okay but not worth $50.00. I will not go back.. I will not go back ever. I will never go back again..."

  • "The service was spectacular. Everyone was very inviting and attentive. The food was sublime and our server was knowledgeable about all of it. The prices were moderate, but for the quality of the food and service, you get a good value for your money."

  • "As you walk in everybody greets you with a nice welcome. When you are leaving you get a nice thank you for coming from each person as you pass by. Very attentive staff. Always checking to see if every thing was ok refilling our water etc. as well as asking if there is anything else that we may need."

  • "The food was amazing and the service was first class. Would definitely recommend Roy's for lunch or dinner"

  • "Roy's Butterfish is consistently the best fish I have ever eaten. I am hard pressed to order other items because it is just that good. Pineapple Upside Down Cake is also quite good as are the Fresh Pineapple Martinis. The service is wonderful, very attentive. We have never been to a Roy's that we didn't like but this location is our favorite. Manager Diva and waiter Hoku make it a particularly enjoyable experience."

  • "Following good recommendations we visited Roy's and were not disappointed. Attentive, polite service; fresh, perfectly seasoned food (a mix of fish and ribs between us). A great desert too. Best meal we had in our stay in Waikiki. Not cheap but good value."

  • "Fabulous fusion menu. Best meal we enjoyed during our recent stay in Waikiki. We were a group of four so tried various appetisers and main dishes and all were outstanding. Enjoyed Roy's famous martins Easy online booking service!"

  • "The price is a little pricy but the food and the service worth every penny! My whole family enjoy the dining experience from the beginning till the end."

  • "Every bite we had was delectable--there just wasn't enough of them and the service was on the slow side--although still very warm and full of Aloha. We got a $45 bottle of sparkling wine, a miniscule $17 appetizer, and a $33 and $38 main course and after tip our bill was $167. So $83.50 per person--that is a bit high don't you think? Wine stemware also needs to be upgraded. I would recommend people to try, but probably wouldn't return since I left a litte bit hungry."

  • "We ate at Roy's several times during our recent visit to Honolulu. Chris S. was our favorite waiter, took extremely great care of us and all of our needs. He is very funny dude, while maintaining an extremely professional manner. In our book, it is a toss up between the Butter Fish or the Monchun Fish specials. Both were great."

  • "Roys was rated first among seafood restaurants in Honolulu. We went out of our way to go there and found it noisy, crowded, and expensive for just okay food."
    Dined on 7/29/2014
  • "The food is really really good. I LOVE the short ribs and the prix fixe meal is really amazingly delicious and well-priced! The children's menu is very balanced and offers a good selection. Service was impeccable; it was better than some five star restaurants I've been to with their real attention to detail and a great manager at the helm!"

  • "Very noisy restaurant but that's because it's a hotspot for tourists. Was a bit disappointed that some of the food options that are found on the mainland menus weren't available at this location."
    Dined on 7/26/2014
  • "I usually don't like fusion food but I thought the food at Roy's was delicious for fusion food. The flavors were there and nothing overwhelming or out of taste. We had the appetizer plate for 2 which had a lot of food on it and all tasted really good. We also had the flying dragon roll and the tiger roll and both were good. The entrees were prawns with fettuccine and macadamia crusted monchong. We had the chocolate souffle for desert. The only negative about the restaurant for me was the noise level was really high, only because the restaurant was packed."

  • "If you're looking, Roy's is your place. Amazing butterfish, big portions. Great drink choices and a friendly staff"

  • "Service is impeccable and the food is outstanding! We plan to eat here every time in Waikiki and they never disappoint. Great experience and we love the food. Have eaten at other Roy's, but this location outdoes them all!"

  • "The bar outside was nice and they had good drinks and an excellent bat tender. We went there to try the sushi and it was nasty. The appetizers were good but they didn't stack up to Roys in guam at all. Don't believe the yelp comments this place is a tourist hype trap."

  • "A friend and I were in Waikiki celebrating my birthday. I decided that my birthday dinner would be at Roy's. They seated us immediately. Server addressed us immediately. Food was great. I will be sure to go again if I am ever in Waikiki!"

  • "Was here for our special honeymoon dinner; food was very very good! The staff is very knowledgable and welcoming and the management made us feel at home and helped us have a wonderful celebratory dinner!"

  • "Went here for my birthday dinner. Service & food were excellent. It was a bit pricey but it was worth it. We had the macadamia encrusted mahi mahi and the braised beef ribs as part of the 3 course meal. The desserts were awesome. Highly recommend the chocolate souffle and the macadamia nut tart.tart"

  • "From the minute we entered Roy's we were hiven excellent service & the choice of menu was so great we decided on the tasting menu including wine, it was all fantastic"

  • "Roy's had a reputation for being the best by the beach and they did not disappoint. The servers were nice and friendly and efficient. The food was excellent. You can't go wrong with the fish especially the butterfish (wow) and the sauces that accompanied were creative and complemented very nicely. Save room for dessert. The chocolate soufflé is worth every calorie."

  • "We visit Honolulu often and had never dined at Roy's before. The food was outstanding but expensive. It was well worth the price, but it was so noisy there that we could hardly hear each other. I do not think we will dine there again ."

  • "Took my Mum to this place for her bday while we were in Hawaii and we enjoyed it. The staff went over and above, brought out a small bday cake for her. The staff were awesome and the food was great! Looking forward to going there again when we come back to Hawaii. Mahalo :)"

  • "Great food but the service was really poor. Asked to see the single-malt list and waitress brings me Macallan12-year! Ordered a white to go with the tomato and mozzarella salad and the wine appeared after I finished my salad. Roy's usually great. This one, not so much."

  • "Love this Resturant food is terrific. My husband had the short ribs. Amazing. I had sushi all was wonderful so fresh so creative we finished the meal with the bread pudding yum yum. Sit at the bar in the kitchen area great show love watching and talking to the cooks. Overall great experience."

  • "Food was good though not spectacular. Small portions and high prices make it hard to recommend this restaurant. The wines provided as part of the three course dinner meal were absolutely terrible and in my opinion undrinkable. Excellent service."
    Dined on 7/18/2014
  • "Everything we had was fantastic. Service was very good. We had the crab cakes, short ribs, scallops, and macademia nut torte. All very good. Also suggest the Hawaiian pineapple martini. Portions are a good size-desserts definitely can feed two. Or three.."

  • "Trying to decide how best to spend our last night in Hawaii was a no-brainer...it had to be Roy's! Having researched the great dining options prior to my trip I really wanted to create a lasting impression on my companion. Choosing Roy's ticked all the right boxes. The service by all staff, including our server Dean, has to be commended. Talk about first class and extremely friendly! Made us both feel like long time customers rather than first timers. Can't forget the food & the extensive wine list. In the end we chose the sashimi sampler, steamed opah & grilled shrimp with all three blowing us away with the flavours & texture! Anyone visiting Hawaii simply has to make sure Roy's is on top of the must do list!"

  • "Typical Roy's. Great food, great service and a nice dinning experience."

  • "We have been coming to Roy's Waikiki for the past two years while living in Hawaii. Tyler's team is by far the best ever. Others are good but he is the most polite, most knowledgable, most attentive. So another perfect evening thanks to Tyler."
    Dined on 7/17/2014
  • "The food is very good. We had the tasting menu with the wine pairing. The service was excellent. We would definitely go back. The only negative was the noise level. It was a bit loud and you had to talk loud so people at your table could hear you."
    Dined on 7/16/2014
  • "We came to Hawaii for our 10th anniversary and the folks at Roy's made it very memorable. The scallops were divine; served crusted with sesame on a bed of rice and pork broth. We also ordered the Macadamia Nut crusted Opah. This was good as well but the scallops were definitely the star of the show. The butterfish as an appetizer was as good as the other people's reviews describe it. I would definitely come back here again. Plus you know the restaurant cares about customer service, our waiter gave us a free "replacement" dessert without us prompting because our chocolate souffle looked a little over done. The replacement was superb. My wife had already eaten half of the first one and couldn't fully enjoy the second. I did though!"

  • "Reviews glowed so I booked in the hope of being blown away, but we did not find any standout dishes...except the crabcakes! Butter sauce was plate licking-worthy! Restaurant had no real décor or ambience and the meal felt rushed because it was so busy and the bus boy was leaning over us (still eating) to clear away dishes."

  • "Restaurant is aesthetically pleasing and staff welcoming. We were seated in a booth which suited us. Prices are reasonable. We decided to go with the tasting menu, which gave us an assortment of food to try without re-reading the menu a hundred times. Tasting menu included Starters, Entree and dessert. The food came out quickly. All the food was great. Our favourite was the dessert - chocolate soufflé. Top 3 of the best chocolate soufflé we have ever had. The staff are friendly and attentive. If you feel like treating yourself to fine dining, this is a good place to go."
