Diner Reviews
  • "We had a wonderful evening at Roy's, and it was one of our most overall enjoyable dining experiences - from the food to the service to the very personable management. It isn't too often you find such a vibrant and caring general manager such as Kal, and he made our visit even better. We can't wait to go back."

  • "Our first time to Roy's. We didn't except too much but it was go awesome. We kept our dinner to sharing 5 apps and 2 adult bevs (alittle pricey) but WELL worth it! Must try the short rib app! OMG!!!"

  • "Never disappointed with the quality of food when I come here. The pineapple dessert is a must try! Save room for it!"

  • "I took my mother here for her birthday dinner. From the moment we stepped in to the time we left we were treated like VIP customers! They went above and beyond in celebrating her birthday. I would highly recommend this restaurant for celebrating any birthday for having a wonderful meal. You will not be disappointed."

  • "our visit was disappointing. we used to eat here often but Now I remember why we haven't been back sooner. not only has the food quality slipped but svc was subpar and didnt justify the high pricetag. The server was nice but was either new, overwhelmed, poorly trained or a combination. She didn't know the difference between black & silver sake and said she had never tried either (servers should sample every food & drink on the menu so they can recommend), she offered more edamame but never brought it, our waterglasses didn't have straws, when we asked for more straws she never brought them, we asked to see the dessert menu before the end of the meal & we had to ask for it twice, then to top it off she spilled food on my new dress!"

  • "Roy's has gone down a notch in its quality, variety, and imagination. What used to be an adventure in seafood is now just another fish place, with a noise level that totally makes any form of conversation almost impossible (and this was in the small dining room away from the even louder bar). For my Outback seafood experience, I'm going back to Bonefish. The variety, preparation, and ambience makes it a better choice."

  • "It was delicious! It would be difficult to say which fish I liked best...Mahi Mahi vs Butterfish!"
    Dined on 7/26/2014
  • "As usual, Roy's exceeded our food expectations! I had the trio ( macadamia mahi, salmon, butterfish ). Awesome!! Unfortunately, we had a huge issue with timing and with service. Our Trip Advisor reservations were for 7:00, but we did not get seated until after 7:30. Our water and drinks did not arrive until over 20 minutes later, almost a full hour after our reservation time. Our food was delicious, however our waiter, although pleasant enough, did not come back until we were almost through eating to ask how everything was. The straw that broke the camel's back? The noise level. It was many, many levels above energetic ... you could not hear the person across the table without raising your voice to an uncomfortable speaking level."

  • "The Alaskan Cod was as moist and delicate as melted butter. The best fish I've enjoyed in a long time. I highly recommend this entree. The service at Roy's is always amazing. Having more than one attendee per table is welcoming for the fine dining experience."

  • "We got seated in a side room, next to a large group. The acoustics were awful, not a romantic section of the restaurant. The front desk hostess to could be friendlier, not very personable at all."

  • "We have not been to Roy's for a number of years, but decided to give it a try again. They have a page of the Chef's special creations. These change often. Their take on steak tartare was very tasty. The egg yolk is a nice touch, but they cut the chunks a little large for my taste. Their short ribs are divine. The petite filet and lobster tail was wonderful. The ribeye was cooked perfectly. They really pay attention to the detail and our server was always there to make suggestions or answer questions. Unfortunately the portions are so large, we had no room for their special deserts. Ah, maybe next time!"

  • "As much as we have enjoyed Roy's thru the years, last two visits on Saturday night have been so noisy that our server had to yell to describe the menu items. It seems to come from the bar area. Recommend to sit in the back of the restaurant to have the dinning experience Roy's is known for & that you expect at that price point."

  • "I have eaten at Roy's many times. Each time it seems to be declining. The service was ok. I ordered Cod lettuce wraps and there was no cod in it! they were barbequed little nuggets of bread-seriously nothing resembled fish. My friend ordered the special and it was so fishy smelling that she could not eat it. We ended up sending both of the dishes back--kindly and apologetically. Waiter was not happy, but we each ordered an appetizer in its place. If I come again, I will stay with the sushi. Luckily we were place in a booth so it was quiet enough to talk, but the main area and bar area are very loud. If you want to be able to converse with your company, ask for dining in the back of the restaurant."

  • "The service was good, food is very unique and tasty. The food portions are small for the price so plan accordingly."

  • "I usually eat at Roy's when I travel to Tampa. The food has always been excellent. During my most recent visit, I ordered the Mahi Mahi. It was obviously not a fresh catch. I hope this was just an anomaly. The upside down pineapple cake was, as always, decadent."

  • "After being seated in a booth as requested, we were greeted by our server Jake..definitely try Roy's Hawaiian Martini...this evening we ordered a special filet and lobster dinner, accompanied with Kim Chee vegetables..our entrees were served beautifully plated, and filets perfectly prepared. For dessert, shared the chocolate volcano soufflé ( yum) with cappuccinos. The manager stopped by always appreciated. Roy's excels in consistently providing delicious food with friendly service in a beautiful setting. It is one of our favorite eateries."

  • "The food was great, had filet and half lobster and meat and sauces were fantastic. Had lobster pot stickers (great) and crab cake (very good) for appetizers, and the pineapple upside-down cake was fantastic too, although it took over 30 minutes after we finished dinner to arrive. Crowded and noisy, but it was a busy night and they put us in a good location for noise..."

  • "We have consistently been disappointed in the hostess experience every time we go to Roys. Even with a reservation, you will wait and the hostess treats you like you are inconveniencing her. Really sets a bad tone. Thankfully the food is mostly wonderful enough to overcome, however, I found the shrimp teppanyaki the most disappointing flavorless dish I have ever had at Roys."

  • "We love Roy's. The food is delicious the service and staff are exceptional. We have never had a less than outstanding experience there. It has become our favorite special occasion restaurant and with their Aloha hour we go there once every week or two for happy hour."

  • "For once a wait staff that's not working on their mid term paper while they're deciphering your drinks order. This is a quiet, efficient, adult restaurant with a menu that's definitely not boring and a staff that's attentive and knowledgeable. All that would be meaningless if the food did not live up to it. Thankfully it does. Delicious food beautifully presented in perfect portions. The ingredients are fresh and the execution impeccable. Added to my favourites list."

  • "Atmosphere: seriously lacking in the theme. Not enough elements to provide a "hawaiian" feeling. No flowers, no bright colors, all beige. Someone dropped the ball on the decorating of this restaurant. The atmosphere did not reflect a fine dining experience that I would expect, given the fine dining prices. No dress code? Service: our server gave us the feeling that we were dining in a fast food establishment, and simple requests, like butter with the lobster, seemed to be a hassle. I would not have known about the steak and lobster 2 course special if I had not received an email about it prior to our visit to the restaurant. The server never mentioned any specials or gave any recommendations. Food: The food was great."

  • "Went with high expectations. Urban spoon and Yelp both praised its food and service. Apperently my experience was the exception. I ordered the butterfish with the szechuan beans as an app and the wife had the fillet (med well) and lobster. The beans were good but had both chili peppers and some kind of current meat (pepperoni?) in them. My butterfish was a little under done - just too soft. Presentation, sauce and Kim chee were excellent. The wife's surf and turf was 50/50: the lobster was good with a nice presentation but the fillet (med well, remember?) came out barely med rare - it was purple/red in the middle. That spells FAIL to me. The pineapple dessert was dry. It could be better but mine was not For $150 it came up short"

  • "Me and Mrs ate there last week. Food was great. I had some self-imposed dietary restrictions and the chef was very accommodating. Because of my diet, I could not eat one of the main ingredients and it was left out of my dish. So, I was still a bit hungry afterwards. I sort of mentioned that to my wife in the presence of the waitress. Soon, Kal Harris (the General Manger/Managing Partner) of Roy's came up to our table. He got me another portion of the food, which was even better than the first, and also provided a complimentary desert on top of the one we already ordered. I have been around the world a few times over and I got to tell you that Kal Harris is by far one of the top restaurant managers I have ever encountered!!! "

  • "Went for dinner on Morher's Day. Nice ambience, nice table, nice wait staff, but we waited uncomfortably long to get our meal. The must have been terribly short staffed in the kitchen because no one around us had food either. Once our meal came, it was delicious. "

  • "The Mother's day brunch was not as impressive as I had hoped. The selections did not impress. The Lobster and Eggs Vol Ment(excuse my spelling) was not desirable. My wife and daughter was not overly impressed with the eggs benedict over a crab cake which tasted like a salmon cake. My son's steak and eggs was the only meal that was satisfactory at the table. Usually we are overly impressed with the dinner menu, preparation, and taste. Mothers Day (a special occasion) left us wondering what we paid 200 dollars for. It felt like a waste of money. "

  • "The staff was exceptional in creating the perfect evening for my wife, her mother and myself. They bent over backwards to ensure my mother-in-law's food was exactly how she requested it. Everything delivered to our table was cooked and prepared to perfection. The desert, the Pineapple upside down cake, was, as my wife stated, unbelievable. In this day and age, a value that is priceless."

  • "I made reservations for my wife's birthday. I can say it will go down as one of the most remembered meals for us. I could not have asked the service to have been any better. The table was decorated beautifully and a birthday card in the menu. The food was superb and not rushed. "

  • "My friends and I have visited Roy's and enjoyed it several times over the past few years, but on our most recent visit, we were disappointed both by the food (dry and overcooked) and the service. Our server had what we agreed was among the shrillest and most piercing voices we had ever heard. Furthermore, she paid scant attention to the table, and I finally had to ask her where our dinners were after a long wait between courses. The atmosphere in the restaurant seemed darker tan I remembered from only a few months ago, and it is beginning to look outdated. "

  • "Wonderful experience. Confetti hearts decorated the table. Paper insert in menu wishing us a Happy Anniversary, then saved and rolled up into a scroll. Picture taken by server and put into a Roy's frame to remember our special evening. Attention to detail this restaurant does."

  • "The fusion of Asian and European Cuisine is done perfectly at Roy's. The ingredients are top shelf, the preparation is careful, the result is awesome. Roy's also excels at the service side of the restaurant business, the servers are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The décor at the Tampa Roy's is not as elegant as the Roy's in Las Vegas but who cares? The food is so good and the service so efficient who's looking at the walls?"

  • "Very expensive. I had an appetizer, the mussles. They were under cooked. I was nauseous for three days afterwards. However, I had the ahi and that dish was exceptional. Wished I didn't order the mussles. My wife enjoyed the butterfish trio."
