Diner Reviews
  • "We were there for my wife's birthday and it seemed all the staff and management knew it. They came by to say HB! A great touch to make her truly feel special on her special day."

  • "Fantastic food, a little noisy, but fantastic food!"

  • "Great restaurant but hard to heard people talking at your table. Noise level - very high but food really good"

  • "My girlfriend was celebrating her birthday and she loves Roy's. I made a reservation on Open Table and put in a note that it was her birthday. They staff led us to our table and they had sprinkled glitter all over it and custom printed our menu's with her name on them! The service was fantastic, friendly, and they brought us a dessert with a candle in addition to taking a picture of us both and printing it in a Roy's frame so we could take it home. No other restaurant does so much for a special event and we both really appreciated the entire evening."

  • "Awesome sushi. Great appetizer. Great Hawaiian cocktails. Really reminded me of Hawaii. Needs Hula music."

  • "I've been here so many times I can't count. Again the food and service were fantastic. It just goes to show when you have a good thing going, don't mess with it! However, with that said, the addition of the nigiri and sashimi things are even better. Great food and a great night out."

  • "Have been to few Roys in different cities. They all are on the mark in delivering good food with friendly service, same with Tampa Roys. Wait staff was knowledgeable about menu, make sure your meal is satisfactory and drinks are always flowing. Management came by twice to ask how the evening was. Ordered the lakinalua roll, which is our favorite. Calamari app was crispy, slightly chewy and tasted great with the aioli. The shrimp with sambal noodles was spicy and tasty. The five-spiced hanger steak was juicy and tender but the five spice flavor did not work for us. Always end the night with decadent chocolate soufflé. Only negative point, it was quite loud and at times you might have to lean over to conversate."

  • "First Roy's experience was Hawaii. Hard to beat. But Tampa did a great job. Weak coffee at the end, but great service. Scallop entree a little light with three pieces only But the pork belly underneath was heavenly. In all, I would always say 'yes' to Roy's.p"

  • "My multiple dinners at Roy's are consistently one of the best, if not the best, meals in town. The food is always incredibly top rate from the appetizers down to the desserts. I don't know how they do it, but I've never had a badly prepared or even mediocre dish. Always excellent. You do pay for this excellent food -it aint cheap! But, it's worth it for a special night out. It should be mentioned this Tampa location is the flagship Roy's location, with parent company OSI's world headquarters a couple of blocks away. So, I'm sure the OSI execs are always in this location. Gave 1 star down on ambiance because for some reason we're always seated in a back corner of the room sometimes used for large groups and it really isn't 5 star back there"

  • "All aspects of the restaurant - food, service, etc. was terrific."

  • "The dining experience was superb! Fabulous food. Terrific Margarita! And service to match. Thank you."

  • "Roy's was our first date so we have made it a tradition to go back for our anniversary the past 2 years. It's been amazing both times. They customize our menu and treat us extra special. At least 4 different people stopped by to see how things were. The service was excellent, food was amazing and overall it was great. Last year I was pregnant and the server recommended me a sushi roll created by a pregnant chef. It was so special that she knew that and also that she knew what fish pregnant women were able to eat. Above and beyond. I wish we could afford to go more often. See you next year!"

  • "The wife and I went out for our monthly date night. Food was great. Our server was great. Couldn't have asked for a better experience."

  • "As always the food was excellent, despite the fact that this was our first visit to this location. We were also kept entertained as staff tried to set up parts of our dining area for a late night birthday celebration for 20 + people. Will definitely be back when in Tampa"

  • "We have been to Roy's many times. The food is simply excellent, well-prepared and presented. First class service. Our only complaints: no waiting area for patrons waiting for a table; and the place can be a little noisy. But we readily tolerate these minor issues. This is a great place for special nights out."
    Dined on 2/28/2014
  • "Roys has an wonderful menu, with imaginative entrees and top notch sushi. The desserts are also excellent. Service is attentive, but not hovering."

  • "Had to get the scallops (again) just awesome! Everything was great and our server took good care of us."

  • "food is always good. I got a living social deal and decided to drive the extra on our way back from Orlando. the service was attentive and great. the only issue was my waiter misunderstood my appetizer order and brought the wrong thing but quickly corrected it and seemed like there was no additional wait. will be going back."

  • "DISSAPOINTED: We come to Roy's a few times a year and is never this bad. Roy's should stick to the regular menu. We had lukewarm poorly executed food and bad service for a lot of money. Won't be back for a while and never for a prix fix menu."

  • "We arrived to celebrate Valentine's Day on Thursday. Our sever Sarah L. was awesome. Her attentiveness to making sure our evening was special didn't go unnoticed. The food was good, but her service was the star that evening. Thanks again for making our first V-Day one we'll always remember."

  • "We love how every meal is a great experience. The butterfish and ahi tuna were excellent. Also finally got around to trying their newish house Malbec, which is a good wine by the glass."
    Dined on 2/10/2014
  • "We were a party of four who ordered butterfish, scallops, filet mignon that were outstanding, according to my family and salmon for myself, which I discovered halfway through could have improved by spending a few more minutes on the hibachi. Service was outstanding. My recommendation is to be specific about degree of doneness when ordering. As for my Mai Tai before dinner .......... a little more fruity and a little less sweet is the way I remember from way back when"

  • "Food was okay, definitely nothing that wowed us and it is not worth the price for the most part. Drinks were good!"
    Dined on 2/7/2014
  • "We have been longtime customers of the restaurant. On this occasion, we noticed that the restaurant has moved to very small wine glasses (same glass for all varietals) into which they make a very small pour. When we asked the server about the change, he, embarrassed, told us that it was part of corporate's "responsible vending" initiative. Unfortunately, however, the initiative still includes the same high by-the-glass prices. This is not a smart way to grow high-end restaurant clientele."
    Dined on 2/7/2014
  • "The staff does a great job of making each experience special. The food is outstanding, and the service is always great. Love the butterfish (black cod), especially when the portion is hearty."
    Dined on 12/28/2013
  • "Ate in the original about 20 years ago in Hawaii and was impressed. They did an okay job, but had to ask for bread and wait about 10 minutes, food was okay, but nothing great."
    Dined on 1/29/2014
  • "I'd requested a "business meeting/quiet location" and had to ask for another table location. The entire time our party of 3 was at the restuarant, we felt rushed. Food came out way too quickly. We kept telling the waitress and her staff that we were in no hurry, The food was good but felt like it was overpriced. When we arrived Roy's was empty. When we left it was quite vibrant and seemed like a great place to have fun, food and friends."

  • "Everything was great from the Hawaiian martini to the sushi to the lobster potstickers. They are so eager to please and work with you on any food or side combination. The seafood is so fresh!"

  • "Restaurant Appearance: Like the look of this restaurant. Lots of wood and has a classy feel. Reservations-Open Table. Hostess:First seated in separate room from main dining room. Was so cold we asked to be moved/something we rarely do. Nice except for our original seating. We were gladly moved. Wait Staff: Our waitress-very good. She was nice & available. Only complaint w/her was we had to ask for bread. Bread was pretzel rolls which were GREAT! Cleanliness: Very good Waitress came to our table in a reasonable amount of time. Food - Shared Truffle mushroom soup - very good, Split a Caesar salad-tasty, split the Tai Chicken dish-plenty for two Presentation: Split things for us which is always nice Dinner - portion very good Good service"

  • "This is my third time at Roy's and it's typically pleasant and memorable. We had the butterfish and ono, delicious, well prepared and beautifully presented. Pineapple upside down cake was nice, but not particularly special this evening. An enjoyable and consistently good restaurant especially for special ocassions."

  • "Trio entre was much smaller then anticipated. Husband left hungry after 170.00 dinner / Kitchen appetizer to entree time was at least a 35 -40 minute. Everything we ate had salt salt and more salt. / Would rather eat at bonefish grill"
    Dined on 1/18/2014
  • "I arrived on time but my guests were delayed. Enjoyed a drink while waiting on them. Never felt rushed even though the place was fairly packed and I waited 30 minutes for my companions to show up. The food was quite interesting and very tasty. I had the "butterfish" (black cod I think) well prepared. My friends also enjoyed the chocolate soufflé which is amazing."
    Dined on 1/18/2014
  • "Food is great, go before 10pm or they ask you if you want something else because they want to go home."
    Dined on 1/10/2014
  • "It was a quiet night at Roy's for a late dinner. It was great as usual. They even made up a homemade steak sauce for my girlfriend's surf and turf."
    Dined on 1/9/2014
  • "in Tampa for business and wanted a good meal without having to travel too far. Food was decent, wine pour a little light. Server was great, very attentive and knowledgeable (we talked about the pineapple upside down cake as it was one of 2 desserts needing 20 minutes advanced prep time). I had decided not to get desert (post-holiday season desire to rein myself in!) but he showed up with it anyway explaining that it was on him as he didn't want me to leave without trying it! Needless to say I inhaled it and loved every bite :)"

  • "Had a great experience for our anniversary dinner. Was quiet on a Sunday night, that was a positive. The food was all very tasty & perfectly cooked, no complaints. An overall great experience."

  • "Love the butterfish and kobe sushi. The best period give it a try you will not be disappointed."

  • "Great food. Don't forget to order the Belgium ChocolateLava Cake!"
    Dined on 12/22/2013
  • "Noise level made conversation somewhat difficult. Food was good but not as outstanding as the last visit. Perhaps it was what we ordered."
    Dined on 12/18/2013
  • "We have been to several Roy's in Hawaii and decided to try the one in Tampa which we found to have the same delicious Pacific Rim dishes known at his restaurants. Decor was very nice, but were first seated in the back of the restaurant where several large parties were so the noise level was really bad. The manager was quick to move us to a much nicer booth type table away from the back which was much nicer. Our server was outstanding and we really enjoyed the whole evening."
