  • "I was disappointed with our current experience at the Sarasota Roy's. The portions of Butter fish at $34.00 a pop were VERY small leaving me feeling hungry at the end of the meal. Four out of Six of my party felt the same way. Two had other fish and were satisfied with their meal. I hope this is not a sign of the future because I do like Roy's."

  • "Roy's Sarasota has always been a favorite of ours. We love the menu, the style and the friendly service. However, this visit was not up to the Roy's standard. The new menu has intriguing new choices that sound delicious, but were bland, even overcooked. The decor is looking tired, not well maintained, and it appears the experienced wait staff has been replaced with much younger servers that just don't have the rhythm down."

  • "We were four having dinner. Three had a quality meal. The fourth one found that the seafood pot was not up to par. Mussels which were the majority of the dish were low quality and should not have been served by Roy's. The Manager I spoke to at the end of the meal apologized only with no other gesture. Unfortunately he is not the same Manger I am accustomed to see. The waitress also spolied the surprise to one of the attendees for whom we were celebrating her birthday. Waitress came before taking the order by saying: I understand that one of you is celebrating his/her birthday which made the birthday desert an expectation instead of a surprise!"

  • "It had been years since dining at this restaurant. They honored our reservation request regarding a table and we were seated promptly by a very nice gal with a big smile. A waiter immediately arrived and wished us a "Happy Anniversary". After ordering a drink, we opened our menus and there were "Happy Anniversary" cards for each of us, a nice touch and a surprise. Our cocktails were excellent and the dinner, also beautifully prepared. The special dessert that arrived was for people celebrating that evening and it too, was delectable. There was to be some sort of picture taken but we were on our way to a show and left. We shall return as it is a very accommodating place."

  • "Rarely does a person complain about the food being too hot when brought to the table, but at Roy's everything is served at blistering temperatures. And when the dishes cool off enough to eat, much tastes pretty much the same. Even the pricey signature lobster pot pie is most memorable for the slightly bitter spice seasoning encountered in other menu items and the soggy, characterless pastry lid. Nonethless the place is a popular choice for those bored with life on Siesta Beach and needing something a bit exotic, however manufactured the experience."

The lobster was very tasty and especially easy to eat the it was prepared. Lobster pot stickers for an appetizer were great but could have used a little more sauce. Overall an exceptional dining experience."

  • "Took advantage of "Savor Sarasota" as a chance to try Roy's was not disappointed, except that we did have to ask for the SS menu. We had each of the selections at our table; all were generous portions and well-prepared, but weren't amazing, with the exception of the two dessert offerings. One was a cheesecake with a coconut ice cream and the other was a chocolate lava cake/ ice cream presentation; both were mouth-watering!"

  • "We went to try Roy's again because they were included in the Savor Sarasota program and after pleasurable memories from a few years ago. We were disappointed that the Savor Sarasota menu for Roy's was not included in our original distribution by the hostess and when requested was verbally recited, incorrectly, by our server, who apologized after having to ask for a reorder on an entrée that had been taken off the Savor Sarasota items."

Our waitress and the team with her were on top of everything without being intrusive or pushy. The pace of our repast was perfect. The service was wonderful, the food was great. We were very pleased with our sushi appetizer as well as the caesar salad and main course. Scallops and then the tempura sea bass. The pineapple dessert was not as good as we expected. The manager was there with a little mum for me to celebrate Mother's Day along with a $20.00 coupon for our next time at Roys. We will return.... sooner this time!"

  • "I brought my father in to celebrate his birthday. The service was impeccable, as usual. I especially appreciated that our server, Brandon, was patient with us as my dad can be finicky. To start, we got to enjoy the tastes of small appetizer, compliments of the chef. The Ebi roll I had was superb, I get it every time I go to Roy’s. My father also enjoyed his appetizer of the lobster pot stickers as he nearly licked his plate! I loved the braised shot rib and my dad equally liked his dinner which was a chef creation- tempura battered California sea bass. I think his only complaint was that there wasn’t more! Finally, we were treated with a complimentary chocolate dessert for my dad’s birthday. It was a nice touch to end our night at Roy's."

  • "We spent another wonderful evening at our favorite Sarasota restaurant, Roys. My wife enjoyed the butterfish, per usual, and it was exceptional, but that is always the case. The ahi tuna was which I ordered was like butter and definitely sushi grade. Local chef Carl Berka continues to experiment and put local unique items on the menu which you must try. I would highly recommend this restaurant above many others in the area."

  • "We have been to roys a few times and always find the staff unbelievably attentive, friendly, helpful and nice! They are very eager to please. The food is always wonderful. Their rib appetizer is perfect for sharing and so delicious. Everyone at our table loved their entrees, whether it was the osso bucco, butterfish, tuna or steak. All were cooked to perfection. Would highly recommend Roys."

  • "I had the most amazing experience at Roy's on New Year's Eve. The best wait and managing staff and expensive but excellent food. We will remember it forever. However, my experience on Monday was a little less memorable. Our waiter and even the hostesses didn't seem to be at the top of their game and didn't connect with us at all. It really changes the entire atmosphere of the dinner. I used to wait tables and I know its not always possible to put forth an excitement to be there waiting on customers. But, it is part of the job. Food was okay, but not as I recall it on NYE. Part of the tuna actually had a strong fishy flavor to it - I would return to reassess because one not so great experience does not for me make it a bad restaurant."

  • "I was pleasantly surprised by the number of extremely interesting and unique dishes. The wait staff was extremely attentive and my waiter recommended an entree that was suberb. I also had the hand roll lobster sushi appetizer that was different than any sushi I have ever tried (I eat sushi 1-3 times/week). The only disappointment was the pineapple upside down cake for desert. Dry and not very flavorful, especially relative to the rest of the meal. I will definitely go again for the other entrees and appetizers."

Top this off with coffee that was weak and flavorless, we had a costly dining fiasco! Sorry, but this Roy's does not represent the norm for a Roy's restaurant. The head chef was in the house, but apparently, not on his mark, this night."

  • "Roy's is one of my favorite restaurants to dine at when traveling. So when given a chance, we always try and dine at one if it is available during our travels. We were recently in Sarasota and found there was one there. Needless to say we made reservations and glad we did. Great food, service and restaurant. No complaints whatsoever. Got the seafood trio. Wonderful. Loved the butter fish dish the best. Great restaurant."

  • "This was a good reminder for us that we really need to get to Roy's more often. The food and service are fantastic (the Butterfish is by far our favorite) and the service is wonderful. The happy hour and appetizer specials in the bar area are also something to take note of - $6 for any appetizer on their bar menu as well as any drink on their happy hour menu. We had a great time."
