  • "We spent another wonderful evening at our favorite Sarasota restaurant, Roys. My wife enjoyed the butterfish, per usual, and it was exceptional, but that is always the case. The ahi tuna was which I ordered was like butter and definitely sushi grade. Local chef Carl Berka continues to experiment and put local unique items on the menu which you must try. I would highly recommend this restaurant above many others in the area."

  • "We have been to roys a few times and always find the staff unbelievably attentive, friendly, helpful and nice! They are very eager to please. The food is always wonderful. Their rib appetizer is perfect for sharing and so delicious. Everyone at our table loved their entrees, whether it was the osso bucco, butterfish, tuna or steak. All were cooked to perfection. Would highly recommend Roys."

  • "I had the most amazing experience at Roy's on New Year's Eve. The best wait and managing staff and expensive but excellent food. We will remember it forever. However, my experience on Monday was a little less memorable. Our waiter and even the hostesses didn't seem to be at the top of their game and didn't connect with us at all. It really changes the entire atmosphere of the dinner. I used to wait tables and I know its not always possible to put forth an excitement to be there waiting on customers. But, it is part of the job. Food was okay, but not as I recall it on NYE. Part of the tuna actually had a strong fishy flavor to it - I would return to reassess because one not so great experience does not for me make it a bad restaurant."

  • "Been to a few Roy's places before and were very pleased; this one, not so much. Greasy food started with the appetizers and continued through the main dinners. Top this off with coffee that was weak and flavorless, we had a costly dining fiasco! Sorry, but this Roy's does not represent the norm for a Roy's restaurant. The head chef was in the house, but apparently, not on his mark, this night."

  • "Salmon was extremely salted. Must of drank a gallon of water just to get rid of salt taste. Pea pod side dish had some weird fish flakes that smelled and also made dish very salty. Very disappointing meal."

  • "I was pleasantly surprised by the number of extremely interesting and unique dishes. The wait staff was extremely attentive and my waiter recommended an entree that was suberb. I also had the hand roll lobster sushi appetizer that was different than any sushi I have ever tried (I eat sushi 1-3 times/week). The only disappointment was the pineapple upside down cake for desert. Dry and not very flavorful, especially relative to the rest of the meal. I will definitely go again for the other entrees and appetizers."

  • "This was a good reminder for us that we really need to get to Roy's more often. The food and service are fantastic (the Butterfish is by far our favorite) and the service is wonderful. The happy hour and appetizer specials in the bar area are also something to take note of - $6 for any appetizer on their bar menu as well as any drink on their happy hour menu. We had a great time."

  • "For the last 3 years, my wife and I watched the Super Bowl at Roy's in Sarasota. The manager has recognized our pattern and was good enough to send us a nice appetizer as a gift. The food was great as always. The service was fine, although, being recognized as the "mayo party" got tedious fast. But, overall, another good visit, can't wait till next year."

  • "This was our first time at this location. My wife and I were going to celebrate our anniversary and the sitter fell through so took our kids with us. The service was amazing - they were very attentive to the kids as well. The food was delicious, we had butterfish and scallops. The kids had chicken tenders. For dessert, we had molten chocolate cake. The server took our picture and made the night very special."

  • "Roy's was a great choice for our dinner with out of town guests. Very friendly, attentive service is notable throughout. Appetizer choices are excellent . The Ahi seaweed app was outstanding! We tried entrees of scallops and macademia crusted mahi which were top notch. The chocolate souffle was wonderful as well (and plenty to share). Roy's will not disappoint you for a high quality meal with outstanding service. Easy valet parking helps make it a pleasant experience."

  • "We love Roy's, usually service is excellent along with the food. We ordered wine and needed to unwind from a hectic day and advised our wait person. We ordered a special trio, but requested not to put our order in until we advised. Within 5 to 7 minutes our order arrive at the table. We were surprised and disappointed as Roys always had such good service. The manager came over and apologized and brought over an extra desert, even though we ordered a desert. The problem was the young wait person wasn't listening to us, she just wanted to take the order. Plus the trio was just warm and not tasty which was also disappointing."

  • "This was our first time to a Roy's.I had the seasonal tasting menu which included an appetizer of fried dumplings, the macadamia encrusted mahi mahi, short ribs, and a dessert of vanilla bean cream. The dessert was not my favorite so I probably would change it next time to the chocolate souffle - which my husband had. He had a garden salad, which he said was nothing special, the tempura red snapper that he enjoyed very much, and the aforementioned very tasty souffle. We did enjoy most of the food but a few were just ok like his salad and my dessert. Therefore, it is a bit overpriced for not being excellent. Our bill was $91 before tip with just the food and no special drinks just water. Will try happy hour in the bar next time."

Thinking that there was a chance they would read the details of the reservation but expecting they would not... We arrived and were seated promptly. Then we were provided a special menu that said Happy Anniversary with a cute note from the restaurant. In addition, we also received a sample of the cheesecake with 'Happy Anniversary' drizzled in chocolate... It was the little things they did to make our night special and memorable. They ended it with a picture they took of us to capture the moment and printed the picture while we waited. We will definitely return!"

The wine list at Roy's is probably stocked with too many little-know wines at elevated prices, so we have found it more enjoyable to bring our own bottles. The establishment usually charges $20 corkage, but sometimes waives the fee. Overall, Roy's is an enjoyable experience, great for sharing an evening with friends."
