Have been to Roy's Chicago previously. Sarasota was just as good. I am gluten free and they accommodated wonderfully. Everyone in our party loved their food even my daughter with the kids beef short ribs! Absolutely go there for a nice dinner. It is expensive but worth it.

Were not able to honor our 7:45 reservation. We were seated after 8. Waitress forgot drink order completely, and when reminded we never got drinks , when she came to check on the meal, she did bring a complimentary round. We enjoy Roys and go several times per month, but this was hopefully a one time shortcoming.

Always a go-to restaurant for our family, it seems as if the management has changed and so has the quality. We received a dinner salad that was brown and wilted, yet charged for it although it was returned uneaten. House wine was not up to par and not consumed. Roy's was always a 5-star for my family...now, it is very mediocre and at that price point and there are other places to eat a nice dinner at a high price point like Roy's where we can get more consistent food. Very unfortunate...

In the past we’ve had exceptional meals here. This October we found quite a change in the standards. Arrived. Waited for valet. Entered the restaurant. No one at the front desk. We waited. Chipper waitress. Food quality overall was good. Ordered the filet, which was almost $40. It was about 20% inedible gristle. Side dishes were OK. But at this price point? The manager explained to us that we got the “end of the tenderloin” and that it had more gristle. Really? Which, BTW, was not a thick plump filet, but about ¾” thick and flat. And no, the “managing partner” was not present. The manager in the dining room was fairly new, trying to cover the bases. We'll be back, but not for a while.

  • Somewhat Disappointing - Just OK

This was our first visit to Roy's - my elderly mother and myself - and, at best, it was just OK. My meal - Lobster Potstickers (appetizer) and Beef Ribs (main course) was well prepared and tasty; my mother's main course (A shrimp dish served over noodles), despite being billed as a somewhat spicy dish, was bland and lacked flavor. The server was enthusiastic and helpful, but the whole meal service seemed quite slow, especially considering that there were only 3 or 4 other tables occupied while we were there. The menu is on the pricey side, and compared to restaurants of similar calibre and price, I would rate the overall experience as just average.

we had a good meal - I had the tasting menu which I will not do again with so many other delish options available. The salad was bland with a too spicy after taste and the hanger steak needed a lot of chewing. My son had the chicken which he loved. Lobster pot stickers delish. And the coconut ice cream was fabulous!

Roy's is supposed to be a 5 star restaurant and it ticks off all the boxes. Fancy menu check. Wine list check. Servers in uniform check. 5 star price check. However given the money spent this place just seems to by checking the boxes. There is no passion here, nothing new and nothing special. It was by no means a bad meal but it just wasn't special. The food was meh, the service good but nothing that excites me. This place is resting on its laurels a bit too much.

We hadn't been to Roy's for a while but were lured back by a $25 giftcard. We now recall why we haven't been reglulars. While much of the food is reasonably tasty, dishes are overpriced and portions can be small. For example, while the blackened tuna main course was fine, the portion was miniscule. Simlarly, their signature lobster pot pie was tasty; however, lobster was almost a non-participant. We also had their specialty appitizer for 2 priced at $27. It had small portions of 5 or 6 appitizers. Two of them were reasonabley good. The othere were at best mediocre.

We've frequented Roy's a lot over the years this was the first time I didn't think it was worth the money. Food was rather bland, service was just OK nothing was bad but certainly not worth the $500 check. We usually go for our teenagers birthdays, but even they said we need to find a new special occasion restaurant.

Roy's is consistently good - especially the food. Normally the service is excellent. This last time our waiter was a bit inattentive at times and wouldn't leave us alone at other times. The servers also mixed up our orders and Linse had a bunch of strange black grease on the bottom of her plate, then the servers actually forgot to come back to clean it up. We'll chalk it up to one sub-par experience in an otherwise great restaurant with very tasty seafood and a calamari appetizer that keeps us coming back.

We dine often at Roy's in Sarasota and they continue to deliver outstanding food. Chef Carl had some new appetizers to try - we loved the calamari, lightly fried, crispy and well seasoned. However the tuna poke did not meet our expectations. Having had this dish all over Hawaii, this version had an overpowering sense of spice which masked the wonderful flavor of Roy's tuna. The butterfish never disappoints and my hubby said the hanger steak melted in his mouth. The bok choy served with our dinners appeared to be braised in a butter sauce, yum. The black forest cake was remarkable. Pieces of rich chocolate cake surrounded by whole pitted cherries, delectable sauce and whipped cream, wow, its a party in your mouth!

I was disappointed with our current experience at the Sarasota Roy's. The portions of Butter fish at $34.00 a pop were VERY small leaving me feeling hungry at the end of the meal. Four out of Six of my party felt the same way. Two had other fish and were satisfied with their meal. I hope this is not a sign of the future because I do like Roy's.

Roy's Sarasota has always been a favorite of ours. We love the menu, the style and the friendly service. However, this visit was not up to the Roy's standard. The new menu has intriguing new choices that sound delicious, but were bland, even overcooked. The decor is looking tired, not well maintained, and it appears the experienced wait staff has been replaced with much younger servers that just don't have the rhythm down.

We were four having dinner. Three had a quality meal. The fourth one found that the seafood pot was not up to par. Mussels which were the majority of the dish were low quality and should not have been served by Roy's. The Manager I spoke to at the end of the meal apologized only with no other gesture. Unfortunately he is not the same Manger I am accustomed to see. The waitress also spolied the surprise to one of the attendees for whom we were celebrating her birthday. Waitress came before taking the order by saying: I understand that one of you is celebrating his/her birthday which made the birthday desert an expectation instead of a surprise!

It had been years since dining at this restaurant. They honored our reservation request regarding a table and we were seated promptly by a very nice gal with a big smile. A waiter immediately arrived and wished us a "Happy Anniversary". After ordering a drink, we opened our menus and there were "Happy Anniversary" cards for each of us, a nice touch and a surprise. Our cocktails were excellent and the dinner, also beautifully prepared. The special dessert that arrived was for people celebrating that evening and it too, was delectable. There was to be some sort of picture taken but we were on our way to a show and left. We shall return as it is a very accommodating place.

Rarely does a person complain about the food being too hot when brought to the table, but at Roy's everything is served at blistering temperatures. And when the dishes cool off enough to eat, much tastes pretty much the same. Even the pricey signature lobster pot pie is most memorable for the slightly bitter spice seasoning encountered in other menu items and the soggy, characterless pastry lid. Nonethless the place is a popular choice for those bored with life on Siesta Beach and needing something a bit exotic, however manufactured the experience.
