Roy's - San FranciscoFun fishI had the fish trio - the mahi mahi was great, and the salmon was excellent - this is a fun place to eat fish dishes cooked with a delicate touch and attention to detail. I would definately come again when in San Francisco, and I'm from Vancouver, so I'm not easily impressed re fish!6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMThe happy hour at Roy's hasThe happy hour at Roy's has some great food choices at cheaper prices. Went here for dinner but decided to just order the happy hour appetizers. Service was pleasant and the atmosphere is upscale but not stuffy.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMThe waitress was great. OfferedThe waitress was great. Offered menu suggestions and was very attentive. Food was good and the presentation was lovely.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food!we went there for a birthday and had a great time trying different items on the menu and sharing them. I am a big fan of seafood, especially the raw/rare kind. They had a great selection to satisfy many tastes and were very attentive even on a busy night.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMMother's day visit..All of Roy's restaurants never dissapoint. Food is delicious, service top notch.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWe arrived early so we justWe arrived early so we just sat at the bar and enjoyed the appetizers and drinks. we will return for dinner some time.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMwould like alittle less noisewould like alittle less noise ... perhaps noise absorbing materials place in main dining room... Great Mother's Day Brunch! Never disappointed when I go here!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMy new Fav!We were looking to go to a new place to eat in the San Francisco and heard that Roy's was great place to start the night off! What great place, great staff, great food!Perfet food,We love Roy's don't miss this place.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMNever DisappointedI have never been disappointed by any dish. The chef sent an amuse-bouche to our table. It was a breaded shrimp with a mousse/pate and was very good.
I ordered the Big Island Ebi Roll appetizer. This dish is wonderful. The shrimp is perfectly cooked and the cream cheese gives it a wonderful creamy taste. No one should fear this dish being hot or spicy - it is not.
For dinner I had the Corvina Sea Bass. All I can say is ORDER IT!! Get it while it is offered. This fish is wonderful and sweet. If your someone who has been adverse to eating fish, give this a try.
For dessert I had the Mango Creme Brulee and was nicely surprised at the wonderful taste. A unique twist on traditional creme brulee and it works well and tastes great.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMsuperb serverwe got seated with no hassle, the service is super and very friendly, the food is great and delicious the butter fish is best and the ahi tuna is classic, the best dessert i 've have is chocolate souffle. bit pricey but its ok its once a year that birthday comes. we had a wonderful time and really enjoy the food5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMThe signature macadamia MahiThe signature macadamia Mahi Mahi was not as good as in the past. All else good. But, strikingly attractive staff with attentive service made it a memorable time.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMExpensive but worth itVery nice ambiance. Restaurant is larger than the average San Francisco eatery and we appreciated not being squashed together so closely with other diners. Food is mainly from the sea but they have delicious land options such as short rib, and good dessert options. I enjoyed the "lifestyle" cocktails - skinny version of well-known drinks at 150 calories each. Would give five stars if it was cheaper. For a special occasion, much recommend this place.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWe asked for a quiet tableWe asked for a quiet table and really had a wonderful spot! Our waiter was very attentive and the food delicious!4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were here this past SaturdayWe were here this past Saturday night. Our reservation was for 9:15 but we got there a little past 8pm. There was no table available but we were given the option to seat by the area where we can watch the staff prepare the food. That was such a great experience...we loved it. We were so glad we were seated where we could see all the action. It was like being at a dinner and a show. And, the sushi chef was great. He gave us a couple of appetizer samples which were amazing! We both loved the ambiance and the food! We ordered calamari as an appetizer which was amazing, our main course were both wonderfully made and the lava cake dessert was to die for! Thank you for such a great experience.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a great experienceWe had a great experience at Roy's. The food was good. The service was good. We will go back.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe are very lucky to haveWe are very lucky to have Roy's in San Francisco. The cocktails are delicious and the food is out of this world. It can be a bit noisy during Aloha hour and up to 30 minutes following; after that, the noise level is decent. We had scallops with "dynamite" crust, short ribs, and as an appetizer - lumpia. Everything was delicious. You can't go wrong at Roy's.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMNice food and great serviceThis is a wonderful place for a special meal. The food was excellent, portions were huge and the service was standout great. Would highly recommend.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMVery consistant to Roy's inVery consistant to Roy's in Hawaii. You get a good fusion experiance4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMRoy's is always good! FoodRoy's is always good! Food consistently outstanding. San Francisco restaurant is not what I had expected after experiencing all locations in Hawaii. (Was expecting it to be a little more elegant, quiet and romantic for the occasion we were celebrating. We had a table for 2 that was far too big...we could barely hear each other with the distance and how loud the place was.) All in all, would still highly recommend this place! Our favorites are always the mixed plates.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMI have always enjoyed diningI have always enjoyed dining at Roy's SF, as well as their restaurant in Hawaii Kai and Pebble Beach. A great dining experience, good food, and attentive staff.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat service/ great desertService; great, the waitress was very nice/ fun and positive attitude.
Food; some of the dishes too pricy not that good.
The best main course is mahi mahi
Desert: best desert love everything. Fruit pie, strawberry cheezecake, chocolate souffle4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMTheir specialty dish, butterfish,Their specialty dish, butterfish, was EXCELLENT. And the pineapple cake was also very good. My guests, who both had the macadamia nut mahi mahi, said that the dish was a bit too dry.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGood for business lunchesI went there for a business lunch and our table was up on the loft. It was quiet enough for business discussion. Quality of food is as expected for Roy's...tasty. Our group ordered the poke and lobster dumpling for appetizers. Poke was very good; dumplings were deep fried and were a bit "hard". Three in our group ordered the blackened fish (forgot what the fish was) and it was more spicy than any of them expected. I ordered the butterfish and it was perfectly cooked and "yummy". We shared a delicious Kohala Molten Chocolate Cake with ice cream and fresh fruit.
Overall, I would go back again especically for business lunches since it has the right ambiance. Otherwise, price is on the high side but it's Roy's.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMHave been to Roy's severalHave been to Roy's several times and recommend to all. The food is great and the desert-Chocolate Cake is great.4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMRoys provides consistent excellentRoys provides consistent excellent service and high quality seafood. Food was plentiful and perfectly prepared. I did find it too noisy for easy conversation, but it comes with the territory.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful service and theWonderful service and the staff let us close down the restaurant. No rush to get out. It was so wonderful.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMIt's all about the sauceWe have been to Roys on Maui (2 of them), Scottsdale, and now San Francisco. This was our second visit to San Francisco. At Roy's, it's all about the sauces. Your read the menu's description of the sauce and think "I want that." Only then do you look and see if that comes on chicken, fish, beef, or pork. This is the opposite of how we usually order a meal.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMThe service was outstandingThe service was outstanding the food was mediocre.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food is always deliciousThe food is always delicious and the service impeccable. Highly recommend the butterfish, always a pleaser.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMWith the low-lighting, whiteWith the low-lighting, white tablecloths and table candles, Roy's is a great place for an intimate dinner. They offer a great selection of tropical-themed cocktails and their wine list is decent.
The food is a mixture of Hawaiian, Asian, Seafood and done very well. For appetizers, I recommend the lobster potstickers and kalua pork lumpia. The butterfish (sauce on the side - otherwise it's overwhelming) is very light, flaky and very good. I also recommend the seared ahi, which is a good cut of ahi, simply seasoned and seared.
Service here is also really good. The waiters are always willing to help with the menu and provide their favorites.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMAn off-day for one of my favoritesI hadn't been to Roys for a couple of years but it had been my favorite place. The butterfish was legendary, the lobster potstickers were amazing, and the iced tea had a delicious tropical infusion. This time, the butterfish was hiding a few bones, the potstickers were overcooked, and the iced tea was plain. Service was excellent and the food was still very good overall. I'll chalk it up to an off-day for the kitchen -- unfortunately these are painful off-days at this price point! -- but I definitely won't wait 2 years to go back for more.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMRoy's is one of my favoriteRoy's is one of my favorite places. All menu items have excellent flavor. Can't go wrong! Their chocolate Suffle sets the bar for all others to achieve!3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMFood is excellent as always.Food is excellent as always. Excellent food and service! Innovative preparations and freshest ingredients. My mouth was happy for days!3/9/2013 12:00:00 AMSo so...Not very special for the price. Food could have been better with attention to details.3/6/2013 12:00:00 AMRoy's serves flavourful Hawaiian-inRoy's serves flavourful Hawaiian-inspired cuisine, which includes influences from Japan, China, southeast Asia and of course, the mainland US. So you'll see an abundance of seafood, and its signature butterfish is literally melt-in-your-mouth good. While it is part of a chain started by Roy Yamaguchi, it has more of an upscale vibe that caters to tourists and locals alike. Maybe not the best representation of Hawaiian food, but short of visiting the Aloha Isles, it's a fine medium.2/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
