We had a lovely, leisurely meal with great service. Unfortunately, there was a large, very loud party nearby that was a constant source of distraction. We appreciated our server's suggestions and left feeling very satisfied. We'll definitely go back on another visit.

  • The appetizer and dessert

The appetizer and dessert menu was delightful. However, my main entree Surf and Turf was mediocre. The meat (cooked as requested - medium rare) was partially inedible due to the meat not being tender. It was hard to cut through the meat, and the part that was edible was too chewy. A little disappointed about my main dish, but I still enjoyed the evening.

Food overcooked... service was slow, so loud you can not hear the special person across from you. Not recommended for a romantic night out!!!!!!!!!!!! Bring a group of friends and enjoy the Martinis (I should drink more).... it is the only way to enjoy Roy's. It was supposed to be a special night of dining with the a very special person in my life. A local pub would have been a good alternative providing the same ambiance.

  • I went to Roy's for a business
    OpenTable Diner Since 2008

I went to Roy's for a business lunch. The service was impeccable - the host even changed our napkins from white to black because several of the ladies were wearing dark clothing. The food was also outstanding: there were several unique choices on the menu and everything was perfectly prepared. My only gripe is that too many of the dishes on the menu contain shellfish in some shape or form - a disappointment to someone who doesn't eat shellfish, but loves seafood.

Lovely decor, very comfortable and roomy (unusual for San Francisco). Excellent service - swift but not pushy. A little pricey however, but a lot of attention and expertise, so I did not feel cheated. Dessert was wonderful, and the main courses were very good. This would be a good place for a special occasion. I didn't sit at the bar, but it looked like a fun spot for the end of the week after work, to celebrate.

  • We first discovered Roy's
    OpenTable Diner Since 2008

We first discovered Roy's in Kauai and it quickly became our most memorable dining experience of all the island restaurants we've tried. Menu selection, quality of food, taste, service, and presentation are all outstanding. The lobster pot stickers, ono with curry sauce, and butterfish were the favorites. The cocktail menu for SF wasn't our favorite. We hope the SF Roy's picks up the recipe for the chocolate macadamia nut martini we had in Kauai. The best martini ever poured!

Roy's is one of my favorite restaurants. Whenever I'm in a city with a Roy's I always find a night to have dinner there. The food and service are always outstanding. A little expensive, but worth it.

Wonderful dining experience! The prix fixe menu was a great find and their selection of cocktails was wonderful. (I'm only sad we didn't make it through the entire list!) Food was divine and the staff was beyond friendly and obliging. Thanks Roys!

  • The previous visit to Roy's
    OpenTable Diner Since 2008

The previous visit to Roy's last year was better than this visit. We order the fixed price menu and it was less of a "deal" this time than last time. The food was tastey, but not worth the price. It took WAY too long to have our 3 course meal served (over 2 hours). We may look for another restaurant near the SFMOMA.

  • What would we do without Roy's?
    OpenTable Diner Since 2002
    Dined on 12/21/2007
What would we do without Roy's? It's only now (2009) being joined by several restaurants in the Fremont/Mission/1st thru 3th Street area. Great menu choices and always good quality and perfectly served; pricey but worth it. Good service, can be very noisy when crowded. Best to go Mon-Thu, late lunch or early dinner. Bar is great---loads of choices, great bartenders who often get distracted in their own personal conversations with each other and other servers (don't take it personally.) Definitely a choice for special occasions.

On a scale of 1 to 10 I would rate our dinners an 11. Among the delicacies we enjoyed was a lobster appetizer. I DO NOT eat shelled seafood (mental not physical issue), but it was superb. What I am most sorry about is the Roy's in Manhattan closed so we can't enjoy the restaurant closer to home.

Roy's is a great place that prices its self off the map. Incred. fish selection and superb, yes I said it, preparation and presentation. Good staff with good food/wine/booze combo-knowledge, but damn, two people with wine just under $300, so, unless I am in Hawaii at the Original local, bye-bye Roy...JBJ

  • Roy's was one of my favorite
    OpenTable Diner Since 2005
    Dined on 3/25/2007
Roy's was one of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco. I would always introduce my clients to Roy's when they travel from around the world to see me. I would dine at Roy's at least twice a month but my last meal was the worst. The food arrive cold and I invited a party of 30 people to this poor excuse for a restaurant. As a matter of face all the food was cold and the service was poor at best. I will never go back to Roy's and I even left a message for the manager to give me a call so that I could provide some positive feedback, but no call from the manager was forth coming. Hence, no more of my business. Roy's will never hear from me again. This restaurant is going down hill as far as I am concern.
