Not every restaurant pays attention to the comments in the reservation - some of the fancier restaurants I've been too seem ignore them. This was not the case at Roy's! They not only were ready for us with a "Happy Anniversary" greeting but were fantastic for our two year old son. His appetizer hit the table 30 seconds after we sat down and the chefs hat was a big hit. Roy's menu is fun and broad and the food was fantastic. A great night!

So sad that the hostess was on a power trip and clearly did not want to get us four ladies-special trip for myself, friend and our 2 daughters-week end girls trip a table outside....it was so loud inside and hard to talk but our server and server assistant were beyond amazing! I would not recommend this Roys to my family or friends due to the fact the host staff seems to not want to Wow the guest as they were not busy but put a damper on our night. So sad that this is how restaurants treat patrons. I am an leader of a chain and will be sharing this story with my team in mtgs.

Seated by the kitchen in a booth. Very unprofessional kitchen staff. Thought I might be at Denny's. Even heard some foul language coming from the group of adolescents running the food preparation. Manager was dark haired, bushy haired and black rimmed glasses. He was adding to the mayhem and couldn't care less for his guests. Never did come by our table. Food was good, not excellent, service was good, not excellent. An expensive meal and expensive wine for 2 dining patrons that was ruined by the animal house environment that was preparing the food and the do nothing Manager who was in charge.

First time dining at this particular location but have been a Roy's patron for many years. Had a reservation for 7 pm. Requested to sit outside on the patio and was told it would be a short wait. A short time later a hostess came to seat us and proceeded inside. Explained to her that we had been waiting for an outside patio seat. Waited a bit longer and then were seated. Service was very slow. Server was good and prompt with attending to our table but took a long time for the food and later our dessert. Dessert was a disappointment as we ordered the melting chocolate soufflé as we have on many occasions. This time it had been over cooked. Server was very kind and did not charge us for this item.

Generally, love Roys, but I have to say this visit was disappointing. The service was very slow, and in fact our initial server was replaced by someone else between drinks and dinner (causing about 1/2 hour wait to order). First of all, my Pinot Noir came in a white wine glass. Clearly not the end of the world, but when I ordered my next glass, I asked for a pinot glass and the waiter quipped that "it will still be the same 5 oz pour!" I was not asking for MORE, I was asking for the appropriate stemware. I ordered the Ahi, and the cut was not great and I had to cut around a lot of the white membrane. Taste was fine, but the colleague I was having dinner with mentioned that he had never seen someone to have to work so hard to eat Ahi.

Of all the eating out we enjoy in San Diego, we have not found a more enjoyable dinner than the Roy's Trio plate of fish. Each of the sauces are wonderful and we always need extra rice to soak up each last drop of them. The price is a little steep at $35.50 a plate and with the restaurant dropping off the the 1000 point Open Table list, we tend to go more to the Seasons 52 for a fine dinner. Does the restaurant know that many of us use this 1000 point list to pick fine restaurants in new cities?

The food is always magnificent. What really impressed us was how kid friendly they were. We would normally NEVER take the kids to a nice restaurant like this for a lot of reasons, but mostly just keeping them contained and finding a palatable menu choice for them. From the quesadillas as soon as we sat down to the ice cream sundaes for dessert, Roy's did a great job of helping us keep them happy. So impressed.

We waited for a window seat and then enjoyed three hours of the wonderful view and great hospitality. The assistant manager and wait staff treated us like we were their family - making sure that all was perfect. Although we enjoy Roys in La Jolla this was our first visit to the harbor side restaurant - but we will definitely return. Thank you all for the great appetizer and dessert that you provided.

We've eaten at Roy's many times: in Oahu, Maui, Las Vegas and now San Diego. This was the worst experience I can remember. We ordered a Filet Mignon cooked medium that came brown throughout. It was tough and chewy so we sent it back. The 2nd steak was mostly raw. I'm not talking pink....it was raw like just out of the package. A guest at a neighboring table had the exact same experience. My wife's filet was cooked correctly but even her filet was tough and chewy. Not the meat quality you would expect from Roy's or anywhere for the price point they charge. I ordered a lobster pot pie. I searched the entire pie and couldn't find anything more than two slivers of claw meat. The pastry...not good. All-in-all a very sad experience.

Great setting along the water in San Diego…definitely get the patio seating vs. indoor as it is far more worthwhile. Wonderful cocktails and great menu - esp. the specials. But be prepared to make hard choices as a lot of dishes sounded excellent. Poke represents nicely, as does the Butterffish. My companion had the fish trio sampler as she couldn't decide and thoroughly enjoyed. Desserts were even up to high standards. Service was quite professional and prompt. Not the cheapest place by far, but worth the money.

I went to Roy's on Maui and was surprised to find a restaurant within the Marriott Marquis on the Harbor in San Diego. The service was top notch and the food wonderful. I had the excellent Caesar Salad and the "Starter" Szechuan Spiced Pork Ribs (Smoked and Glazed in Roy’s Original Mongolian Sauce). The ribs were everything I hoped they would be and more than enough for a light eater (half a rack/6). I would highly recommend Roy's especially if the guest has never been to a Hawaiian eatery. It is as authentic as you can get...even in Hawaii.

So sad. This used to be our go-to place for special occasions. A few years ago they had mastered amazing food and outstanding service. Alas, it's all gone. Food is dull and mediocre. I don't know what kind of disgusting sauce they put on the edamame but it's like sticking your fingers in lukewarm butter. The customer service was nonexistent. Dreadful. Wait staffed harried and sparse. We arrived on time for our reservation to be shown to our table only to find it was occupied by another couple who decided they'd rather sit outside but didn't feel like moving. So, at 5 months pregnant wih twins and huge I stood up for twenty minutes waiting for my seat to keep from "inconveniencing" the demanding other couple. No apology from staff.

My wife and I celebrated our 4th anniversary and Roy's San Diego Waterfront did an impeccable job on catering to our needs. The waitstaff was friendly and wished us a happy anniversary. Our busser was on top of things like filling up our water glass and clearing our table at the right times. The food was incredibly, mouth-watering delicious. Kudos to the chef and kitchen crew. We sat outside as it was beginning to mist a bit - in between mist and sprinkle. As it began to rain a little harder, our server gave us the option of seeking cover at the bar or getting seated inside. We decided to stay outside and our server brought over one of the bit patio umbrellas which gave us full coverage! We started off with Prosecco and then we received a gazpacho type appetizer on the house - tasty! We then shared what had to have been the richest, most succulent seafood dish I have ever had - the Misoyaki "Butterfish." I will do an injustice in attempting to describe it - just go to Roy's and order it! It is ridiculously delicious! Do save room for Roy’s Melting Hot Chocolate Soufflé. That's a must, as well.

I went here for dinner with co-workers. I ordered the chef's special that evening which was the Halibut. The Halibut was cooked perfectly, nice and flaky, great seasoning and texture. My co-workers all got the fish trio, a combination of Roy's famous fish dishes. All raved about how much they enjoyed their dishes. For desert, we ordered a round of the famous chocolate soufflés - what a way to end a meal, in the top 5 desserts that I have ever had. I would highly recommend this place.

Wanted to try the Spring Trio, since the Roy's Trio has been a stable for me for the past year. The price was nice and enjoyed the steak and shrimp, but the tuna portion was too small to really enjoy. I would rather pay another $5, bringing it up to the cost of the Roy's Trio, and had an enjoyable serving of the seared tuna. The wife enjoyed the Roy's Trio. Server Daniel took good care of us as before, but we really shouldn't have had that super delicious tornado dessert, with extra elements of decadent joy!

The food was delicious as usual at Roy's. Nice fusion of Asian and American flavors. The only complaint was that the noise level was high and it was hard to hear the other people at the table. However, some of that was due to a particularly loud table of 4 women not far away.

They made our dining experience totally delightful. However, I am sorry the the Baja roll is no longer available, as that is an item that I always look forward to enjoying. This is my favorite restaurant chain. Food was excellent. My 6 yo daughter's dish of chicken tenders was fabulous. I think I might have liked it better than my dish. The Lakinlau (sp?) roll is my favorite appetizer, but it seems to be disappearing among the restaurants but is still on it here. Views of the marina towards Coronado were beautiful. We have come here every time we visit San Diego.

My family and I eat at this Roys Waterfront Location every time we are in San Diego and they always amaze me. The food is outstanding and the service is impeccable. Andrew Mayer has this restaurant running at a high level and Adam the Executive Chef and his staff deliver dishes that will blow your mind...you must have the lobster potstickers, the short ribs and the Soufflé Dessert. The food never disappoints and they also have outstanding dishes for kids. Our children, ages 1 and 7 both had the salmon and loved every last bite of it. By the way it is refreshing to see a kids menu with more than chicken tenders and a burger on the menu!!! Please keep up the great work Roys San Diego Waterfront.
