  • "Great setting along the water in San Diego…definitely get the patio seating vs. indoor as it is far more worthwhile. Wonderful cocktails and great menu - esp. the specials. But be prepared to make hard choices as a lot of dishes sounded excellent. Poke represents nicely, as does the Butterffish. My companion had the fish trio sampler as she couldn't decide and thoroughly enjoyed. Desserts were even up to high standards. Service was quite professional and prompt. Not the cheapest place by far, but worth the money."

  • "I went to Roy's on Maui and was surprised to find a restaurant within the Marriott Marquis on the Harbor in San Diego. The service was top notch and the food wonderful. I had the excellent Caesar Salad and the "Starter" Szechuan Spiced Pork Ribs (Smoked and Glazed in Roy’s Original Mongolian Sauce). The ribs were everything I hoped they would be and more than enough for a light eater (half a rack/6). I would highly recommend Roy's especially if the guest has never been to a Hawaiian eatery. It is as authentic as you can get...even in Hawaii."

  • "So sad. This used to be our go-to place for special occasions. A few years ago they had mastered amazing food and outstanding service. Alas, it's all gone. Food is dull and mediocre. I don't know what kind of disgusting sauce they put on the edamame but it's like sticking your fingers in lukewarm butter. The customer service was nonexistent. Dreadful. Wait staffed harried and sparse. We arrived on time for our reservation to be shown to our table only to find it was occupied by another couple who decided they'd rather sit outside but didn't feel like moving. So, at 5 months pregnant wih twins and huge I stood up for twenty minutes waiting for my seat to keep from "inconveniencing" the demanding other couple. No apology from staff."

  • "My wife and I celebrated our 4th anniversary and Roy's San Diego Waterfront did an impeccable job on catering to our needs. The waitstaff was friendly and wished us a happy anniversary. Our busser was on top of things like filling up our water glass and clearing our table at the right times. The food was incredibly, mouth-watering delicious. Kudos to the chef and kitchen crew. Highly recommend this place."

  • "We sat outside as it was beginning to mist a bit - in between mist and sprinkle. As it began to rain a little harder, our server gave us the option of seeking cover at the bar or getting seated inside. We decided to stay outside and our server brought over one of the bit patio umbrellas which gave us full coverage! We started off with Prosecco and then we received a gazpacho type appetizer on the house - tasty! We then shared what had to have been the richest, most succulent seafood dish I have ever had - the Misoyaki "Butterfish." I will do an injustice in attempting to describe it - just go to Roy's and order it! It is ridiculously delicious! Do save room for Roy’s Melting Hot Chocolate Soufflé. That's a must, as well. "

  • "I went here for dinner with co-workers. I ordered the chef's special that evening which was the Halibut. The Halibut was cooked perfectly, nice and flaky, great seasoning and texture. My co-workers all got the fish trio, a combination of Roy's famous fish dishes. All raved about how much they enjoyed their dishes. For desert, we ordered a round of the famous chocolate soufflés - what a way to end a meal, in the top 5 desserts that I have ever had. I would highly recommend this place."

  • "Wanted to try the Spring Trio, since the Roy's Trio has been a stable for me for the past year. The price was nice and enjoyed the steak and shrimp, but the tuna portion was too small to really enjoy. I would rather pay another $5, bringing it up to the cost of the Roy's Trio, and had an enjoyable serving of the seared tuna. The wife enjoyed the Roy's Trio. Server Daniel took good care of us as before, but we really shouldn't have had that super delicious tornado dessert, with extra elements of decadent joy!"

  • "The food was delicious as usual at Roy's. Nice fusion of Asian and American flavors. The only complaint was that the noise level was high and it was hard to hear the other people at the table. However, some of that was due to a particularly loud table of 4 women not far away."

They made our dining experience totally delightful. However, I am sorry the the Baja roll is no longer available, as that is an item that I always look forward to enjoying. The newer rolls on the menu were scrumptious, as were the short ribs!"

  • "I went to this restaurant based off the reviews on OpenTable. You cannot beat a better view isn't this all the outdoor dining. It was a gorgeous evening. The menu had a lot of choices so I literally looked at the waitress and said suggest everything and I basically bought what she suggested it was very good. I had some sushi as well as some scallops for a main course. "

  • "This is my favorite restaurant chain. Food was excellent. My 6 yo daughter's dish of chicken tenders was fabulous. I think I might have liked it better than my dish. The Lakinlau (sp?) roll is my favorite appetizer, but it seems to be disappearing among the restaurants but is still on it here. Views of the marina towards Coronado were beautiful. We have come here every time we visit San Diego."

  • "My family and I eat at this Roys Waterfront Location every time we are in San Diego and they always amaze me. The food is outstanding and the service is impeccable. Andrew Mayer has this restaurant running at a high level and Adam the Executive Chef and his staff deliver dishes that will blow your mind...you must have the lobster potstickers, the short ribs and the Soufflé Dessert. The food never disappoints and they also have outstanding dishes for kids. Our children, ages 1 and 7 both had the salmon and loved every last bite of it. By the way it is refreshing to see a kids menu with more than chicken tenders and a burger on the menu!!! Please keep up the great work Roys San Diego Waterfront. You have a loyal customer for life!!!!"

  • "I have eaten at several Roy's locations, I wanted to share this experience with my wife and 3 friends. What a nice surprise it was to discover that the restaurant was adjacent to our hotel and overlooking the harbor. We were seated promptly. And our server, Daniel, was excellent from beginning to end. His explanations and recommendations were very helpful. The food was all wonderfully prepared, presented and served. We needed 3 separate checks, which Daniel handled easily along with a Roy's gift card. All in all, it was a great dining experience."

  • "Unlike most night...this night was a bad one for Roy's . Our party orders the steamed mussels and they arrived to the table cold. The manager tried his best to make things right by bringing a FRESH batch that was hot and brought some potstickers for the table to make up for the error. Everyone's dinner came and the fish dishes were exceptional. I made the mistake of ordering the usually juicy short ribs. This night they came so tough that I couldn't cut them with a steak knife instead of the fork tender ribs that have always come before. Both pieces were dry and tough. I called the waiter back and he was apologetic and brought me another dinner... and while the second one was better...it was not up to the standards of Roy's. So sad"

  • "We celebrated my husband's birthday here on March 6, 2014. The scene and atmosphere was very great. The Lobster popstickers are a must have. My only complaint was that a very loud party of about 16 people came during the middle of our evening and it was very hard to hear. I just wish we were a little more separated from large parties."

  • "You can't beat the dining experience of sitting outside at Roy's by the fire pit with the fresh air and stars in the sky as far as you can see. The sushi rolls that Roy's serves are the best in town. The service from Josh, server slash bartender is right on with product knowledge and a great sense of humor. Josh, the Manager, makes sure everyone is happy. My wife and I just love this place and look forward to going back time after time!"

  • "...just not what I expected. I was hoping to find a restaurant with hawaiin influenced cuisine but without the cheesey tiki bar feel. The only thing hawaiin was the poke which they didn't even have that evening. The waiter was very good at upselling the drinks (I asked for tap and got Fij.) Filet mignon was well marinated and butter poached lobster was very good. I enjoyed the lobster gyoza and pork belly dumplings. The ambience is nice, and though they say they validate parking, there was no attendant in the lot and we ended up paying $16 for parking anyway. Overall a good restaurant, I had just expected less big city atmosphere."

  • "Overall, always like Roy's for food preparation, imagination, and service. This was a sub - par evening. The waiter messed up the wine order and brought a Pilot instead of a Cab, then took 15-20 minutes to fix his mistake. Then, wife's so called Butterfish was baby food mush, overcooked and my peppercorn crusted Ribeye was a big pile of gristle and connected tissue....could not eat. To be fair, the apps and desert were great, but entrees were a big dropkick. Mentioned the problem to server, but he just brushed it off. Net, still like Roy's but for +$300.00 for 2 people, expect more for sure....."

  • "We have been to Roy's a few times (different locations around the country) and have always enjoyed it, but the San Diego location fell short. When we arrived, the hostess started complaining about her day as she was seating us which was a bit awkward. She then proceeded to sit us at a table that was in a corner that was away from all views and looked like it was a temporary setup where a coat rack would normally be. It was a little odd to be seated there, when there was a large number of open tables. The food was quite good, except that the steak was cooked rare instead of medium well. Meanwhile, the table next to us had the wrong desserts brought out."

Food consistently good nonetheless, always enjoy the menu options at any location in Hawaii or California, though most others are quieter and more relaxing.
