  • Private Party Facilities: Lanai Room: This is the smallest of our 3 private rooms. There is beautiful artwork on the walls that make great backgrounds to pictures. This space is conducive to business meetings & / or pharmaceutical dinner programs with a speaker & presentation.

    Maui Room: This is our medium sized space right next to the Lanai Room. The Maui Room has beautiful Hawaiian artwork on the walls. This space is conducive to business meetings & / or pharmaceutical dinner programs with a speaker & presentation.

    Big Island Room: The Lanai & Maui Rooms combine to become the Big Island Room. Semi-Private Wine Room = This is a portion of the Main Dining Room that we section off with screens to seclude you from the general public.

    On one side of this space is a direct view of our Red Wine Room, the other, our Exhibition Kitchen.

    Waina Hui (wine club) is our monthly gathering of friends to sample wines from around the world and to share in the enticing flavors of Roy’s Hawaiian Fusion cuisine.

    Cost is $25 per guest and tastings are held monthly from 5:00-6:30pm and include a sampling of Roy’s signature appetizers. Reservations required.

  • "We've been going to Roy's in La Jolla for years, and will continue to do so. However, on this fateful evening, this was the first time EVER that we had to wait 40 minutes for a table even WITH a reservation. It was a Friday evening, not all that bustling, and there were ample tables available. Yet, we still had to wait for 40 minutes--this unfortunately didn't set the tone for a pleasant evening. We did enjoy our meal regardless... hope this doesn't happen again :("

  • "We have been going to Roy's for almost 8 years - but not anymore. That was absolutely our last time. The food has changed for the WORSE. They took a perfect Roy's menu where for the past 8 years, every meal was outstanding, and changed it to something very very mediocre. Even the little things are bad - imagine serving a mai tai with slice of lime instead of pineapple. Imagine serving calamari with jalapeno. There are so many good restaurants in San Diego, there is no need for us to go back to Roy's until they bring back the old menu. And we are not the only ones making this observation. There is no comparison between the old menu and the new - the new is just BAD."

  • "The bar scene is extremely noisy, it overshadows the food and everything else. We asked to be seated as far from the bar as possible which made it somewhat tolerable. Perhaps this is an attraction for the younger crowd, but I am from a generation that still values conversation. The food was quite good, but the noise did not improve it."

  • "Excellent lunch selection, available only on Fridays. The calamari appetizer was wonderful and set the stage for the fine food that was to follow. The lobster rolls with french fries were great as was the grilled chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries and the shrimp pasta. Everybody left happy and sated. Wish it were open for lunch all week long!"

  • "We have been patrons of Roy's in Oahu for 20 years. This place in spite of being owned by Outback has maintained the high standards of Roy's vision. Though Roy's in Hawaii has a broader choice of fish, everything at Roy Yamaguchi in La Jolla is excellent. The wait staff, bartenders, kitchen provide a wonderful experience. If you can't get to Hawaii, this place is the next best thing."

  • "The food and service were very good. However, being in our 70s, noise is a big issue with us. This is a very popular spot for the younger bar crowd and that means NOISE. I can understand the restaurants catering to that because it is good for business. Fortunately, there are also some very nice restaurants where the noise level is more tolerable. Those are our first choice."

  • "We went to this Roys (pardon... Roy Yamaguchi's Pacific Rim Cuising...sheesh) to avoid making dinner one night. We had 3 different waiters come ask to take drink orders (we ordered with the first one), and somebody filling the water glasses who seemed disgruntled. We ordered the "trio" of fish, and it was meh. Small and overpriced (IMHO), and the taste of everything was just blah. My wife didn't even bother finishing the fish since it was so blah. Even though the place wasn't very crowded, it took us a long time to get our food, and seemingly forever from when we finished until we saw a waiter to get us the check. Overall, we were not impressed. I don't think we'll be going back."

  • "Restaurant experiences are typically dependent on three things: service, food, and atmosphere. Service: After being seated, we waited about 5-10 minutes before we saw our waiter but after that, the service was first-class. Very attentive wait staff. Food: The food is good, but at those prices, I would expect it to be outstanding. Overall, it's pricey for what you get. Atmosphere: I love the atmosphere here. Especially the tiki torches outside, they make you feel like you might be in Hawaii."

  • "We have eaten at many Roy's throughout the United States. The food is almost always outstanding. This time there were some issues that made the meal just OK. My wife ordered one of the chef's specialties that night-a fish similar to a swordfish (sorry can't remember the name) that was a little over done. I ordered Roys trio which gives you three great portions-hibachi salmon (overdone), macadamia crusted fish (excellent), and the butter fish (mushy and swimming in a pool of syrup). The dessert (chocolate soufflet) was excellent as always. I think it may have just been an off night in the kitchen. I would not hesitate dining there again."

  • "Beautiful restaurant and nice staff. But the food wasn't anything special. The Hawaiian Poke was not good at all. The mussels were just so-so. The Butter Fish was pretty good. It was all over-priced, but that is probably because of the location."

  • "Service was running late so it took a while before we were seated even though we had a reservation. The manager made up for it with free appetizers and everyone was very apologetic about it. Food was great, the fish trio was just absolutely amazing and they have a kids menu as well. My son was happy with his pasta with butter and chicken fingers. Service was great, almost to a fault. The secondary wait staff kept asking if we were done and wanted to clear the plates right away. Not sure if he was just zealous or if they were running late with other reservations. Overall, great food and great service."

  • "My husband & I chose to celebrate Valentine's with dinner out on the 13th. It is less crowded than on Valentine's Day. We were seated right away and given several selections for wine. Both were excellent. My husband is on a low sodium diet & they were able to accommodate this dietary need. Both our dinners were excellent. One of the managers, Sid, came by to chat with us which was nice. My husband is Hawaiian so we conversed about Hawaii some. We ordered a dessert to share that was delicious. Upon receipt of our bill the waiter told us that the dessert was without charge thanks to Sid. Thanks to Sid, we will definitely go to Roy's again for another special dinner."

  • "We visited Roy Yamaguchi's for the first time for an early Valentines dinner and were pleasantly surprised with the experience. The hostess didn't acknowledge us when we walked in, as she was on the phone, but the hospitality manager saw us waiting and was quite friendly and seated us immediately. With this being the first time dining at the restaurant, he offered us an appetizer sampling that was outstanding! Our server was very accommodating as well. The dining experience was delightful and we will definately be back to try other dishes."

  • "We were graciously seated at a spacious table of our choice. The 1988 cocktails were great though on the sweeter side. The Lobster Potstickers were delicious but the Kim Chee Vegetable left more to be desired. The Horseradish Crusted Boneless Ribeye was done to perfection. The Teppanyaki Shrimp combined well but the portion size was more of an appetizer than an entree. The service was courteous and timely. Thank you."

  • "The dining room is quiet and serene. The lobster potstickers were good, although the lobster essence was faint. The trio of fish was also good, however the potato in the dish was raw. The best one of the trio was the miso butterfish. I would suggest ordering only the miso butterfish in the future. We also had the prix fixe meal, which was lobster bisque, pork osso buco and a sesame cake desert with butterscotch pudding. The soup was very flavorful. The pork osso buco was very tender but had no glaze and hardly any sauce. It was very plain and unappetizing at first glance, The chocolate souffle is a misnomer. It is really a lava cake and overly sweet. It was disappointing. Overall, OK dining experience if you know what to order."

  • "I came here on 2 occasions and have been impressed both times. The drinks are perfect, not too strong and not too sweet...love the Hawaiin martini and Roy's mai tai. I tried the canoe of app and a side of the lobster potstickers. Hands down my favorite was the potstickers...a pocketful of flavors with a crunch of the fried wontons dipped in butter sauce...o heaven in my mouth. I also had the trio of fish...OMG must try if you love fish. My favorite out of the 3 was the butterfish. Love the name and it fits it perfectly because it does taste like butter...melts in your mouth. My only 1 complaint is the chocolate souffle...be forewarned...it is NOT a souffle. It is more like a molten chocolate lava cake."

  • "I love Roy's. I've have had consistently excellent dinners there for years so I was quite excited to dine there New Year's Eve. I doubt I would do it again. They had a 4 course menu that perhaps was too ambitious because they had the majority of their regular entrees listed, so dinner took a well over 2 hours. There were two disappointments food-wise which was a surprise. The Ramen soup was just warm and it should have been hot. The flavor was excellent - but only warm. The big disappointment was the poached lobster. I've had it before with their filet and it's amazing. This time I got the runt of the litter and had to scrape the shell for any meat and for $85 it was not acceptable. This was an epic fail on their part."

  • "Came here on NYE with family. The ambience was nice so we were excited about the food. Our appetizers were pretty good we got a roll, tuna albacore, and tuna tartar. Shellfish chowder was probably the best thing we had very yummy and hearty and not too fishy. The entrees were bad. Three of my family members got steak. They said the sauce on it was not good and steak not cooked how they asked. I got their wasabi crusted halibut-- all I can say is OVERCOOKED. very dry I had to wash down every bite with water. The only decent entree was their tiger shrimp. Desserts- my fiancé liked their bread pudding and the whole table agreed that their chocolate soufflé was yummy. service wasn't great and we felt rushed. Probably won't be back."

  • "It's been a tradition of ours for years to dine at a Roy's on Christmas Eve. SO glad we kept that tradition alive. Menu has been expanded and Roy would be proud of what Chef Charles & crew is doing. New appetizers (try the Pork Belly Dim Sum) and Salads ( homemade KimChee...for just $4.95!) were two items over the top! The short ribs are always fantastic (ask for more sauce) and the Smoked Shutome w/quinoa was to die for! Roy's is noisy because people are having a great time....so get over it! If you have to have peace and quite, bring ear plugs but come for the meal and service.Your taste buds will be glad you did! - John & Beth"

  • "We loved the ambience, and Cody our waiter was attentive, however the food was disappointing. We ordered Kim Chee vegetables to be served with our Hangar steak entree. We were disappointed when the vegetables were served cold. We were told the chocolate souffle was house made, and I doubt that as I've tasted something similar from Trader Joe's."

  • "Roys Is Consistentl Excellent. The Food Simply Cannot Get Better. Be Sure To Have The Poached Lobster And Fillet Mingion Combo. This Is Not Lobster With Drawn Butter. That Is Too Pedestrian. ThIs Is Lobster Poached In The Butter To Cook And Wow What A Difference. Melts In Your Mouth. The Fillet Was Hands Down The Best I've Ever Had. Cooked Exactly The Way I Asked And Not A Second More, Or Less. Seasoned Perfectly So You Get The Full Flavor A Perfect Filet That Is Not Masked."

  • "Food was decent but not a good value for portions and price. I had the shrimp salad, and it barely passed as a salad entre as the protein portion was very skimpy. Spend your dollars for a nice dinner here. I had a reservation for lunch, but a table was not ready and it took the hostess about 10 minutes to even acknowledge us. Then we were taken to a table that was way too large for our party of 3 (which we politely declined, to wait for a more appropriate table)."
