Diner Reviews
  • "Scott, our waiter was great. Our steaks were great. The appetizers were great. The portions are just so small for the price that you pay. You get way more food at Outback."

  • "If you want to have the best Seafood in town, please visit Roy's, I highly recommend the Crusted Mahi, Mahi."

  • "Awesome presentation! Small portions. If you and your spouse like to share meals this is NOT the place to do it. Aloha Hour offers good $6 drink/appetizer specials in the bar. The berry dessert had very little fruit and the dab of "sour cream ice cream" was actually sweetened sour cream We should have tried the pineapple upside down cake as the berries were a disappointment. Our server recommended it as she said it was a chef's creation and it may not be on the menu when we return. Don't order it or you will be disappointed."

  • "Although a hustling and busy bar and dining room, the friendliness and attentive staff is outstanding, the food and variety excellent. Wine list is notable and bottle service on the spot."

  • "Came here for dinner recently with my significant other and the experience was fantastic. We weren't celebrating anything but many employees did approach us to ask if we were and to ask us if we needed anything. Our server, Heather, was great. She provided attentive service without hovering around so we were still able to get an intimate dinner although the place was busy and very lively on a Friday evening. Will be back!"

  • "Despite the tacky outside (tiki torches!) Roy's is lovely inside. The bar is very lively, and if you want to talk over dinner, best to request the non-bar adjacent room! Menu is broad but not overwhelming, wine list is good, martinis are EXCELLENT, service friendly. Best is that it is convenient to our favorite Pasadena movie theater, the Laemle Playhouse on Colorado"

  • "We were hosting another couple, who don't particularly prefer fish, so they had the short ribs and loved them. My wife and I had the Butterfish, and enjoyed it tremendously. We dined outside, had the server turn on the heater, and enjoyed the evening. Service was good... we'll always be back!"

  • "Everything was superbly presented for our birthday dinner, and tasted up to the presentation. Ahi and Salmon are both recommended. The miso soup is just spicy enough, not like any other, and not to be missed!. Our discreetly attentive waiter recommended we split one, owing to the size of the full version, and there was plenty in the split, served in uniquely ovaled bowls. We also split a lovely caesar salad caressed with shaved white cheese. We were visited by a tie and coat manager to insure all was perfect. The memorable evening concluded with a gratis flan dessert adorned with a candle, and a no cost memory photo of the event's participants in a Roy's frame. Go enjoy! Advise them on Open table of your event's special nature!"

  • "We took our toddlers to Roy's for their first fine dining experience. We were a bit apprehensive, but the staff took wonderful care of us. We did go at 6 on a Monday night to avoid too much mayhem. We would definitely go again on the next special occasion."

  • "Had the pleasure to finally try Roy's in Pasadena and I thought it was a good experience not a great one. Service was top notch, only a few dishes stood out to be such as the short ribs, the egg rolls, shrimp with kimchi and the tuna roll were lacking flavor. Tried the fish trio that came with butterfish, salmon & mahi mahi and the only fish that stood out to me was the Mahi Mahi, extremely small appetizer portions for full dinner price, maybe I should have ordered the full order of fish instead of the actual trio sampler. Maybe I will try again, but I doubt I will be rushing back to eat soon, with so many food options in Pasadena, there is more to enjoy."

  • "We went to Roy's for our anniversary and they could not have done more to make the evening better. We were wished a happy anniversary by many of the staff, got a sorbet with Happy Anniversary on it. and a souvenir picture. The food was delicious and the service outstanding. We recommend the stead and lobster and the short ribs. The highlight of the meal was the chocolate lava soufflé. This was the best anniversary dinner ever and we will be going back every year and many times in between. This gem of a restaurant is not to be missed!"

  • "Roy' s is ALWAYS accommodating! My boyfriend and I have dietary restrictions. I specify that on my Open Table reservations and they never fail to follow instructions. It give us great joy to dine there (Pasadena location) either at the bar for Happy Hour or in the main dining room with friends. Thank you."

  • "Our 2 year anniversary dinner at Roy's Pasadena exceeded our expectations!! Excellent service right from the get go. The hostess recognized our small gifts and asked the occasion. A dessert tray and complimentary picture and frame were given to us without myself asking. Waiter was awesome, honestly and regretfully forgot the name. Food was excellent, we got the kimchi, butterfish, and tuna."

  • "We had a great time celebrating our anniversary. The food was great, cooked to perfection. Our server, Jonathan M (Johnny), was the greatest! If possible asked to be seated in his section, he will definitely treat you right."

  • "I have never had a bad experience while dining at Roy's. The staff are amazingly helpful and friendly. They even gave us personalized menus for our birthday! The food is incredibly good. I have never eaten anything I didn't like here. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone!"

  • "Went there on a warm, busy night and waited for a patio table outside. Finally got one. During the waiting process, the friendly hostesses kept making sure we wanted to continue waiting, keeping us posted on progress outside. Also, the manager Mike came over to us to explain that the patio is first-come, first-serve basis, so even though we had made a reservation requesting an outside table, it was going to be pot luck. He was very nice and attentive to us. Our server, Quentin, was also friendly and attentive. Couldn't have enjoyed the experience more. Short ribs and butterfish were very tasty. The attitude of the manager and staff made all the difference and for that, we will happily go there again soon."

  • "I always appreciate the extra attention you give customers on their special occasion. Only recommendation is that the servers learn to introduce themselves at the table. It is helpful to know their names while occupying a table for two hours Food was excellent! Had the Chilean sea bass special."

  • "The service was great. Food was ok. Not what i expected. When u pay $120 for dinner u expect more. I'm really not a picky person so I know the food wasent great since I actually was happy with it. We has the calmari. pretty good but a very small portion. Main course( salmon & mahi mahi) there just wasent enough flavor. But the dessert was great."

  • "My girlfriend and I went during the 7pm dinner rush. The noise level made it hard to hear each other and the service was slow since there were so many people. But as the night went on and customers left, the noise level died down and service got better."

  • "Even though I had made the reservation on Open Table several weeks early we were seated at what appeared to be the worst table in the restaurant. Hostess was unable to help when we asked for another. Didn't expect that."

  • "Food was excellent, service was great.. a little pricey, so watch what you order, appetizer & desert, took us over our budget BUT, was worth it. Would do it again.. The staff also went out of their way to recognize my girl friends B'day which I only mentioned in my reservation..GOOD Job !!"

  • "Got there early and sat at the bar and we had manhattens in my favorite large martini glasses. Seated at our reserved time. Waiter was great and manager came around make sure all was well. Ordered the trio from the net, yummy. Didn't have room for the chocolate molten cake but is a must and and we still ordered it and force fed we other. One more Roy's checked off the list. We will be back."

  • "I thought that it might be a mistake to try an Hawaiian restaurant in California, and so it was. There is nothing wrong with the food, but there is nothing special about it either. I guess if you would never go to Hawaii it is worth a shot, but even as someone from the UK, I know that it was not the real thing. I will not return."

  • "This was another repeat visit to Roy's Pasadena for me (Super Bowl Sunday). I invited an out-of-state friend, who is a gourmet cook, to experience Roy's. She said that indeed it lived up to my raves and was delighted to learn that there is a Roy's in the Las Vegas area. She had one of the specialty drinks, while I had water, since none of the wines on the Wine List is sweet enough for me. I had the filet mignon (5 oz.) and lobster combination while she had a trio entrée. We shared the chocolate soufflé since I only like chocolate ice cream and this is served with vanilla bean ice cream. It is perfection! I prefer to sit away from the bar area where the TV is located. I would have rated Roy's 5-star on ambience if there was no TV."

  • "We dine at Roy's every Friday and special occasion, there is always a different menu. The food is so fresh and tasty. The staff is terrific."

  • "Food was outstanding - flavors were interesting, and perfectly balanced, not strange. It did not strike us as "Hawaiian" - but more Asian fusion. We started with the lobster bisque and lobster potstickers, both delicious. Our entrees were the cod (butterfish) and a nightly special swordfish with a creamy mustard-crab sauce. Both were outstanding. We will not forget this meal. The restaurant is spacious and comfortable. Tables are far enough apart for privacy. The restaurant was nearly full when we dined there and seemed to be running smoothly. Our only complaints were that our starters came out just lukewarm, and that our entrees were served immediately after we finished our starters."

  • "We celebrated our 24th wedding anniversary, we started with cesar salad with crab, I had the rack of lamb, my husband had beramundi fish, and ended with 5 desert, you should visit Roy's for all your special occasion."

  • "From the outside decor to the overall design of the restaurant my experience was very memorable. Because this was a first date I knew that Roy's would provide for a perfect mix of prompt service, quality cuisine, and overall great time."

  • "We were early for our reservation (very early) and they we're busy but the hostess managed to seat us at a table. We had requested a booth but it was our anniversary and we were early so we didn't mind. The food and the service were outstanding. Thank you for helping to make this a memorable night for us!"
