This was my third visit to Roy's this week! We enjoyed "happy hour" out on the patio. Totally pleasant experience. This was a Friday night when inside was very full and busy and NOOISY!!! So we opted for the patio and it was lovely. Heaters kept us very comfortable and it was quiet enough for us to actually have a conversation! Highly recommend the Happy Hour...delicious horsdoeuvres and drinks were $6.00

The first time I went to Roy's I was disappointed and this time was no different. Small portions, nothing extraordinary from a culinary perspective and exorbitant fees which are not justified. I think Roy's has an identify crisis. Not Hawaiian, not a steakhouse, not a seafood restaurant. They claim they are "fusion" of all three, but they don't do any of them well. They are not a "jack of all trades," but certainly a "master of none."

Not all Roy's are created equal, but the Pasadena location is a solid place to dine. Steaks are drenched in sauce, so if you that is not your preference, ask for it on the side or not at all. We had some leftovers and after we grilled it again at home, it tasted much better without the sauce. If you have a birthday, they will give you a very small muffin for the "special" dessert. Plan to bring your own cake. BUT, their pineapple upside down is amazing: decadent, but not too sweet. chewy, but not old. bready, but not to cakey.

Our experience is always OUTSTANDING until November 2nd. We were celebrating our anniversary and here's what occured: Reservation 5:30pm, waited 25 min. manager realized that we were just standing there when the dining room was pretty empty finally got seated. We were Immediately greeted by our server, very nice, ordered our drinks, tea pot had no cover (got cold quickly). We received our appertizer within 20 minutes of ordering. So far so good....then the meal took over an hour to receive from when we finished our appertizer, our shrimp was undercooked, black rice was undercooked, lobster and steak was exceptional. Didn't want dessert we've been there for 3 hours and had another outing to attend. We hope this is a one time mishap.

A typical Roy's experience, only this time the service was a bit off. Our server took our appetizer order, but then took forever to take our dinner order. Then there was this young lady who kept asking if she could clear our plates, even though it would seem from our perspective that we were still eating. Both looked like rookies, so I'll cut them some slack, but hopefully they'll learn how to serve better.

Once again our experience at Roy's was all positive. The hostess was great and held our table even though we were a few minutes late. Bar was active scene for a couple of pre dinner drinks. Our table selection for a party of two was right next to a large dinner group with kids but this was the only draw back to the evening. Food was great. Service was even better. Definitely becoming one of our neighborhood gems.

We love Roys but Sunday night was not good. the appetizers were fine. the Ahi entrée was not good, the cut of the fish was wrong. My teppanyaki shrimp was water, an order on Ponzu salmon was ovrcooked to the point of being burned on one corner. The pineapple upside down cakes were dry and overcooked. This has always been our go-to restaurant but now may be our gone-to restaurant. very very disappointing and made us sad. tho Roy, the waiter, was a gem.

I thought that -with the exception of one enterprising server - the service was amiss that night. The edamames were warm and soggy - fresh mushy ones brought twice - and I felt the butterfish lettuce cups were not good value for the $15 for 3, each consisted of a tiny piece of fish with some slippery noodles in a bit of lettuce. The ribeye was delicious, but had gristle. I was not offered a coffee refill. The mac & cheese was tasty but a bit dry. The pineapple upside down cake was as great as always. Roy's Pasadena is usually a wonderful "go to" destination. This was my most disappointing visit.

We told the waitstaff we had to make a show and they dropped the ball on getting the food there in a timely manner yet initially they pretended to be concerned about the time. The food was fair but my husbands short ribs were fatty and tasteless. My butterfish was flavorful but ultimately the rushed experience left my dinner party with a bad taste.

I had my Birthday dinner at Roy's Pasadena. I had the Lobster Pot Pie, which was good. The Calamari was delicious for an appetizer. The cocktail (Hummingbird) I enjoyed. The service was slow, although the waiter was very personable and helpful. However, the dinner out was nice amongst my friends and family, but the evening was not that memorable. The presentations of the food for everyone was beautiful, except for my Lobster Pot Pie. Desert of the chocolate souffle was tasty, but not very special. At the end of the evening, the dining experience was pleasant, but not a night I will treasure as a food experience and the service was simply too slow for weekday night.

I was distressed at the hostesses putting is in the "back room" where it felt we'd belong if we had a passel of unruly kids. We were moved to a corner in the main room, still not desirable. I have a feeling we were being put in the most undesirable areas due to the fact we booked on Open Table, though this is the first time that has happened. The girls at the front desk seemed like they were just going through the motions. We both really liked our dinners and our waiter was very nice. I'm most likely not going to go back any time soon since I can think of so many other restaurants in Pasadena where they are thrilled to have us!

Excellent surroundings, superb service, and fabulous food. I have been to Roy's in Pasadena, Woodland Hills, Los Angeles (closed now)and Hawaii. The consistency and quality are top rated for me. How can you miss? I had the braised short ribs and my husband had the trio of three different fish. The wedge salad was amazing! The blue cheese dressing and toppings were different and so tasty. There was pickled red onion. Wow! Something to try.

We're repeat customers of Roy's all over SoCal. The food is always good, but this time the service was particularly outstanding. The waitress was knowledgeable about the menu and engaging. Our water glasses were never empty and people (even the manager) came to check up on us periodically during dinner. I asked for a small bowl so I could let my husband try some of my food, and the waitress came out with 2 choices of size! Service is better here than some fancier places we've been to.

My husband and I went to Roy's to celebrate our anniversary. It seemed like almost everyone else at the restaurant was celebrating an occasion as well which was nice. Our waiter took our photo and put it in a frame for us to remember our special night. The food was fantastic. We shared the red curry chicken samosas which was my favorite (3 large, puffy ones), the Roy's Trio (macadamia nut crusted fish, misoyaki butterfish, and grilled salmon), lamb shank, and chocolate souffle which you need to preorder. The lamb shank was well-prepared, although it could have been more tender. The Roy's Trio, while it offers you 3 types of fish, comes in small portions. The souffle was heavenly. We will be back.

Even though the patio is facing Colorado Blvd, we were rarely made aware of its proximity. When darkness came, they lit the tiki torches, which lit the entire area in a nice light. The menu is seafood centric, but we both ordered the Prix Fixe menu and were not disappointed in the three courses. We are moderate eaters and found the portions refreshingly suitable. The $10 corkage fee went missing from our bill, which made our gift bottle of wine even better. Our server took a couple of fantastic photos of us - one with our camera, and then one with their camera. She gave us a hard copy print in a frame of the photo she took. It sounds like a gimmick, but these days it's nice to get a real photo once in a while. We'll be back.

With just enough new menu items to keep regulars from getting bored, Roy's continues to offer top-quality food and service. The bar menu is fun, but the real attractions are the fish dishes with a bit of Asian influence. Service is generally very friendly and attentive, and they accommodate children well. Butterfish (black cod), mahi mahi, scallops, and the pineapple upside down cake are all not to be missed. Or, opt for the giant pork chop or beef short ribs. If I'm to be honest, Roy's does "Hawaiian" food better than most Hawaiians probably eat, because it's not inexpensive and would cost even more in the islands. But you won't have any regrets if you bring someone here for a special occasion.

Good, not great Sunday night. Service was more than fine, knowledgable staff, who was very attentive from the moment we sat down until we left. The food was disappointing. Other than the pre fixe, and the Miso Butterfish, the trio and the filet were just ok. Serving size of the fish trio was more than fine, but all three seemed like they were missing something. The filet was not the best cut. We tried the fried rice and green bean sides and both disappointed. The fried rice, no taste, and the green beans, very little lop cheong, but tons and tons of chili peppers, more than a dozen. The desserts saved the meal, the upside down pineapple did not disappoint. The menu was quite different, with more choices - maybe less is better.

Food should have been much more special for the prices. Definitely an expense account or business entertaining budget. For example, $13 shrimp salad, while tasty, maybe had 2 shrimp on it that had been cut into pieces. Disappointing, mainly because premium pricing didn't relate to premium dishes. Noisy inside,
