Diner Reviews
  • "Over the last 10+ years I've been dining at Roy's at several of their locations including the original location in Hawaii. One of the reasons I continue to return is for the consistency in their food, service, and my favorite drink, 1988; which is named I believe after the year the restaurant was originally opened. This was the first time that I ever left and was not happy with the food or the service. I will not expand on that comment because it's not a typical experiene for dining at Roy's. I will end on the recommendation of trying it for yourself, everyone is entitled to having a bad night."

  • "ALWAYS AMAZING - Great teamwork between staff. Last time it took (no lie) 15 min to get coffee and we had to wait 20 min beyond our reservation time to be seated, but besides that it's always flawless."

  • "Roys in Orlando has great food....better than in Maui. A bit loud....but having been there we know that. Service / attention to detail is VERY good."

  • "Roy's is our special occasion place. Birthdays, anniversaries, engagement, etc. We have had our special staff over the years but most have moved on. We met Ty (Tyler) our waiter for the first time last evening. He was great! Thanks for the great service."

  • "I may just be getting harder to please as a long time foodie, but I was expecting something a little more special. Don't get me wrong, everything was really tasty and the service was good, so no complaints. IMHO, the "chainification" of the celebrity chef establishment may be profitable, but dimishes the experience....and isn't that what a GREAT meal is all about??? I recommend the restaurant, but suggest you manage your expectations."

  • "My daughters and I dined at Roy's as a special treat for the last night of vacation. I am so pleased that we did! The service and food was fabulous. We had a very disappointing evening at Moonfish the same week and were thrilled with the level of service and quality of food received at Roy's. Try it, you will not be disappointed."

  • "This was one of my favorite restaurants in the country! I always looked forward to returning to Roys and sampling their Asian Fusion cuisine. This visit, I learned that Roys had been purchased by the same restaurant group that owns Outback, Bonefish Grill, among others. The waiter informed us they they had hired a chef from New Orleans, who was introducing his own spin on Roys famous menu. The result was the worst of both worlds. Want once was Roy's trademark clean tasting seared Ahi Tuna infused with Asian favors, was now served with greasy mashed potatoes, and soggy bok choi. The wine list went from amazing to pedestrian. What was once a great restaurant is now unremarkable. Save your money, and dine elsewhere."

  • "this was our second visit to Roy's. We were visiting Orlando both times and a year between visits. The service and food were consistently fantastic. Our waitress was knowledgeable and willing to answer all of our questions about the menu. Her suggestions for interesting and different apps and entrees were spot on. The floor manager even offered us some white rice as a side knowing that we were missing that little something with the meal. A great meal. We'll go back again when in Orlando."

  • "This was my first time eating at a Roy's Restaurant. The local menu items are specific to the chef. I had the Calamari and the Ahai Tuna. Both were awesome. Will be back!"

  • "We just dined at Roy's last night and I think food was definitely worth trying unless you are not open for new flavors. It was kind of noisy but that's pretty much the same in every busy location in rush hour. Overall, I would recommend the place if you haven't been already."

  • "The restaurant was very busy. We waited for 15 minutes to be seated, with a reservation. The hostess was very friendly but service was lacking. We felt rushed, they took our drink menu away before we could look at it and didn't refill our drinks for an excessive amount of time. The food was perfect absolutely perfect. The chef GAVE us a cheese quesadilla for our daughter and we didn't even order it! Just saw we had a kid and gave it to us! Noise level was very, very high and I felt bad for the couple having their anniversary dinner right beside us because you have to shout across the table to hear each other. Also, we policed our 3.5 year old but she's still a kid and moves around. Why seat a kid by a couple who's celebrating something?"

  • "We have been eating at the Roy's in Orlando for years. We are never disappointed with the menu, the quality or taste of the food."

  • "The constant subtle changes to the menu throughout the year, keep it fresh whilst keeping the favourites intact, that's why we are regulars at Roy's. We had the Tempura shrimp to start which is enough to share and tastes fantastic! I tried the new rib eye steak with Mac and cheese with truffles, outstanding as was my wife's dish which was the Thai chicken. Service is attentive and very knowledgeable and happy to explain the menu in detail should you wish."

  • "I wanted to have something different and the hawaiian-fusion combined with southern and european cuisine convinced me. Didn't regret; service was outstanding, friendly and always had time for a chat or answering questions. Had the price-fixe-menu with lobster bisque, ossobuco and a butterscotch/sesame-cake. Each course was perfectly executed and tasted great. Also had an additional desert, the upside down pineapple cake which was according to my girl outstanding as well. Only very tiny downside was the espresso they served was too much liquid and tasted watery and burnt. Another positive remark: no "happy birthday" singing staff. They took a picture and put it in a happy birthday frame. To me that's enough :-) Thanks, had a good time."

  • "The noise was so loud that you could not hear each other even screaming. Luckily we were moved to another table but way too late."

  • "We enjoyed our meal at Roy's Orlando. We were promptly seated. We were seated in the side room that could be used for private parties. The ambience in that room is not as nice as the main part of the restaurant. Since we were there on a Monday, we took advantage of the Monday Dinner special. Everything was very good. We had two waiters that did a good job but they lacked communication with each other. One would ask us a question and then a minute later the other would come by and ask the same question. They need to divide their tasks better so as not to waste their and our time gathering the same info. I would definitely go back--prices are steep--so it will be a while."

  • "We really like the food at Roy's and go there on a regular basis. But the service is rarely top notch. The emphasis seems to be on catering to entirely to the convention crowd. There is little to no recognition for regular customers unless they are personal friends of the manager. We eat out 4 to 5 nights a week. Like the food, but the experience is not so tasty."

  • "I was very pleased by the reception and service we received for our meeting venue in the Napa Room. The restaurant can accommodate group functions, including screen and projector. I was able to select a menu with good choices prior to the event. It was wonderful. We were able to open the curtains to bring in the natural light and a nice view of the lake that surrounds the back of the restaurant. Very Nice.! Great place to host a group event."

  • "I've never had Hawaiian food before, but I'm assuming this is the best place to get it beside Hawaii. Had a are time choosing what to get, it all look so good. I wish we came here twice when we were on vacation."

  • "Roy's menu is nearly unique - a fusion of Hawaiian and Japanese prepared in a classical French manner. Excellent fish!"

  • "You'd be Goofy if you missed this fabulous place. Roy's fusion cuisine hits the mark in Central Florida. Chef Mac Lynch brings his New Orleans style to this Hawaiian inspired gem. The andouille crusted snapper was a hit as well as the tried and true hibachi salmon. This place is a must go!"

  • "Really enjoyed the excellent food and good service. Our waiter explained the menu in detail and how it would be served. Thought the restaurant looked a little tired and was cold enough to be uncomfortable."

  • "Food Quality was less than expected for the pricing. Fish prep on all three versions were dry as well. Cocktails were very good. The service was outstanding at this location from the hostess to bar to table."

  • "Fine and/or foodie dining in Orlando is a challenge, isn't it? Roy's provided reasonably good food, as expected, but not a memorable meal. Very nice blackened ahi appetizer. Service -- especially hostesses and server assistants and to a lesser degreee servers -- is amateurish, but maybe that's normal for Orlando. Found the beer list to be bottle-only and pretty uninspired. We're living in a wonderful age of high quality beer -- what's the excuse for having only the standard national brands, plus one bottle from Hawaii? To me, it shows a lack of corporate inspiration and lack of effort at reaching new customers. Ultimately, if I need to return to Orlando, I might go back to Roy's -- not enthusiastically, but what are my other options?"

  • "Having eaten here for many years we never get dissapointed. There is always someting new to try and its always good. They have specials for price fixe and specials for a shorter period of time. The main items are usually fish and they prepared it well and different. Most have a island slant. This time I had a combo of duck leg, Short rib and crab cake with noodles and mixed island vegatbles with a chillie sauce. Salads are wonderful also, this time I have the Maui Wooie shrimp salad and it was not to be belived, wonderful pieces of shrimp and fresh greens and slices of tomatoes. Deserts are another good bet , try any of the nights specials and you cannot go wrong. The service is always great and not pushey, always helpful when needed."

  • "My first time at a Roys - all owned by their Exec Chefs. On the basis of prior reviews I booked in for dinner with my CEO. Wow what a great (lucky) choice. The food was amazing, service timely, polite, informed and enthusiastic without being invasive. I'll be looking for the other 19 Roy's when in the USA and definately revisit when in Orlando. Relaxed First Class dining."
