  • "Food was poor and delivered mild warm. The server realized that I need more sauce with my tempura fish and offered to get me more. She stopped and spoke to another server and that distraction was enough to forget! This was not a great experience or a inexpensive meal."

  • "My husband and I celebrated our anniversary at Roy's and are so glad we did! Our server was on great. He made great recommendations and was very attentive. The food we had was melt in your mouth delicious! It was our first time there so the chef gave us a couple of lobster pot-stickers to try. YUM! We shared the spicy tuna roll (forgot the name) for an appetizer and we both had the butterfish entree. OMG....the butterfish was amazing. It was cooked perfectly and just melted in your mouth. Everything was great and we will definitely be going back!"

  • "First time at Roys and didn't expect it to be so healthy,and delicious. No bread basket and carbs but edamame with great seasoning. I had the butter fish and my husband had the Opah, both were well prepared and melted in your mouth. We had a mango mojito (delish) and a Hawaiian martini both were excellent. We had the chocolate souffle, with vanilla bean ice cream, wonderful! Our server was Cayenne who was so warm and welcoming and took great care of us. She really shines at this establishment. It is a little pricy but we really enjoyed ourselves."

  • "They were very accomodating. We called because we were running late due to traffic coming from the South bay and arrived an hour after our reservation. They seated us within 10 minutes and were friendly. Service was great as was the food! Can't wait to go back when I'm not pregnant for more of the sushii!! Coconut ice cream was to die for!"

  • "Great ribs, appetizers (Canoe for two), Rib-eye was yummy. Mixed trio was OK. Salmon tasted on the farm side and Halibut ( not fresh), Butterfish was fresh. Excellent service. Roy's welcomes you and makes you feel special. We were celebrating our son's birthday and had an extra special dessert from Roys."

  • "We have been to several of the Roy's locations across the US and Hawaii and have never been disappointed. My go to dish is the blackened Ahi tuna which is a signature dish and shouldn't be missed if you enjoy Ahi. The service is consistently attentive without being intrusive. Nice wine list. If you are a chocolate lover, save room for the molten lava cake! The cake is truly molten and delicious!"

  • "Heres a real bottom line review...the service was A Plus. The food was A Plus. My girlfriend enjoyed the butter fish while I had the trio of salmon, crusted mahi, and butter fish and we were not disappointed. The fish was cooked perfectly and flavored flawlessly. Desert was excellent. My girlfriend enjoyed their signature soufflé while I had the bread pudding. Both were excellent. Next time we'll try steaks."

  • "We went for our anniversary, and while I made a resv 3 days in advance, we were sat in the very back dining room, while there was plenty of room in the main dining room. Not much to look at & the music in the room was way too loud. Music was a mix of hip-hop and rap - not what I expected in a Hawaiian Fusion restuarant. However server Thomas, made the experience lovely and the food was terrific! Make sure you ask to be seated in the main dining room, unless you want your own space to have a party."

  • "The food was definitely standard good. But this is Roy's! Lobster dumplings: can't taste the lobster. Mac and cheese: can't taste the truffles and the bacon added none of that characteristic saltiness. The pork chop special tasted wayyyy too smoky without a juiciness of the pork flavor itself to back it up. Was instead dry and flavorless itself. I'm being picky. But it's because it's Roy's. Do better, guys."

  • "Kudos to Roy's for updating and expanding the menu. We had the calamari, the seafood trio and the seabass tempura. All were excellent and the trio portions were larger than before. A+ for the food. C- for the service, though. It took a long time to be greeted by our server and then she seemed to dislike us for some reason. Water, drinks, food service all took much longer than usual at this Roy's. Not sure what her problem was but it ruined an otherwise great meal."

  • "We dine here quite often and find it to be very consistent with great seafood, appetizers, etc. The chocolate molten cake can't be beat. I see some other reviewers complaining about the cost and/or the parking valet at $6 --- all the restaurants in Fashion Isl are $6 or more and some of the others are far more expensive. There is always self parking and other more casual eateries."

  • "The chef definitely injects some creative flair, but everything we ordered was very pricey relative to the overall value received. Seafood entree portions were miniscule with hardly enough sides. Sushi rolls were ample, but also overpriced. Their signature molten chocolate dessert was also overpriced. The waiter (Thomas) had an "interesting" affect and reminded us of his name half a dozen times. He seemed insistent to take our wine order before we selected our entrees. Reservations at the beginning of their Sunday evening was a very busy and noisy time. Diners were a mixed bag of evening attire and beach casual. The recepsionist's attitude was somber and not welcoming at all."

  • " I wanted to take my dear friend out for a nice dinner, but not impressed. Had heard good things. However, for a $100 tab, I expect more than 1 cup of pasta with 4 medium, overcooked shrimp, with the shells still on and a glass of okay wine. If the pasta had some extraordinary flavoring or the shrimp was perfectly cooked, it would still be uber expensive...the pasta was a flat overcooked fettucine-type noodle. To add to expense, valet parking was $6.00 (not including the tip), and my car was literally less than 20 steps away from the valet podium...Wow! I am willing to pay for a good meal, just getting tired of the boring-overpriced food around OC."

  • "Our waitstaff was excellent-friendly, knowledgable and attentive. The room we were seated in was too cold. I'm not usually one to complain, but we could not be moved so they kept saying they would turn down the ac but, of course, it would always get turned back up. Kind of ruins your evening to be shivering. The appetizers were good, shorts ribs and lobster ravioli. But my dinner, steak and lobster, was dry and over cooked. The steak was very gristly and the lobster was just 3-4 bites. I would not recommend it to a friend, and we all went away thinking it was over-rated."

The service & atmosphere remain very good but the food quality and consistency has been poor for the last 3 visits -- a continual decline in food freshness, seasoning, etc. We were served stale/old fish & even the guy that delivered it watched to see how our reaction to the smell and appearance of several dishes. They did remove 2 obviously spoiled items from our bill. We eat high end food & do not mind paying for it when it is good - an average of $100+ per person is typical. The appetizers (3) and four entrees were marginal at best. The drinks were good - hard to mess wine and standard mixed drinks. The deserts (3) were the best part of the meal."

  • "Lovely quiet booth, good servers. The Cesar salad was garlicky and very good. The macadamia encrusted mahi with lobster creme sauce could have packed a little more flavor but the piece of fish was fresh and generous. The seared ahi with wasabi was excellent. Next time I'll have that."

  • "We had the 2 course Lobster tail and filet mignon special and it was good. The disappointing part was that we were there to celebrate my husband's birthday. The waitress took a picture of the entire party. The usual thing was to print the picture and present to us with the Roy's picture holder. The waitress never did and we forgot about that. Once we got home, I called the restaurant and see whether I can pick up the photo the next day. The hostess took my cell and said they will check and call me back. It is 5 days later now and no one has called. I was bummed because that's the only picture with the entire party."

  • "I ordered an item from the Chef's menu, highly recommended by the server. I cautioned him that I like my fish nicely seared on the outside, but cooked medium at most, flaky and moist. He assured me that would be the case. When I got the fish, it was hard as a rock. So he brought me a different dish, mushy butterfish, but by then my wife has already finished eating. And I got charged for the slightly more expensive second order, not the first. We will not be back."

  • "We dine here at least once or twice a month and the food and service are always great. We went for brunch, but wound up ordering off the non-brunch menu. This is a nice way to go if you want fish or beef, which were not on the brunch menu. Appetizers of Ebi roll and potstickers were good, miso butter fish and short ribs also great. Topped off with the chocolate lava cake with ice cream."

  • "Celebrating our daughter's birthday and graduation so I was hoping the restaurant wouldn't disappoint and it didn't! Roy's has been a destination restaurant for us on vacations and special occasions but recently we were getting a little disappointed (bored) with the menu selections except for the chocolate soufflé of course so the variety of menu choices here were fantastic! We had the black cod, the scallops, filet mignon, the fish trio, and the crab and fish chef special. All was excellent. My daughter appreciated the birthday dessert! Thank you Roy's for a memorable evening!!!"
