  • "This is the second time we've been to Roy's, first time was at the Palm Desert/Rancho Mirage location. Love this place. Brought three kids. Not a kid restaurant, but definitely kid friendly. Mussels were yum. Black Cod was delicious and cooked perfectly. Salmon and Mahi were great as well. I'm not a big fan of lobster dumplings in general, but others at the table enjoyed at them. Ate so much, couldn't fit any dessert in my belly. Highly recommend."

  • "Roy's Newport Beach has been one of our favorite restaurants for years. They know how make guests feel welcome and the restaurant's atmosphere is filled with aloha! Since we all have very different tastes, the thing that stood out most was that everyone cleaned their plates - EVERYONE! I think that speaks volumes to the quality and selection Roy's shares. They were also happy to customize dishes, substituting the lobster in the surf & turf dish for the misoyaki butterfish (my favorite). We started with our favorite Lakanilau appetizer and of course finished the evening on a sweet note by ordering their awesome chocolate lava cake! The birthday boys each received a special dessert on plates personalized with their names. Perfect evening!"

  • "The food never seems to disappoint! We treated two friends. I had a wonderful steak, I believe a rib eye and it was mouthwatering seasoned. We treated another couple for their first time at Roy's. I also ordered a canoe which was a mix of Japanese style appetizers. I shared this with the table and it was welcomed. I don't recall the entrees and appetizers our guests ordered. Peanut Butter and chocolate soufflé... yummy!!! Service was good, however, not great as I usually expect. I will say though that the maître d' was very accommodating for specific food orders. We had a gluten free requirement at the table and he made sure to accommodate accurately."

  • "We have been going to Roy's for many years and have always enjoyed it very much. This time, it felt rather plain. The decor has not changed since they opened, leaving it feeling a bit dated and the food was just...fine. We were celebrating my daughter birthday and they were great about putting confetti on the table and having a special birthday message inside the menu and on her dessert plate however we also ordered the molten chocolate cake which arrived overdone and not molten. We left feeling less than impressed."

Our waitress Tina was very nice and her assistant also. Tina took a souvenir picture of our celebration. The manager Donnie came around to congratulate us and offered his service if anything extra was needed. We would return to celebrate any other celebratory occasion."

  • "Our server was AMAZING! I have an uncommon food allergy and our server went above and beyond to make sure the food I ordered did not contain anything that would cause an allergic reaction. I know they are all suppose to take it seriously, but I have never had anyone go as far as to cross check even the spices used. Definitely made me feel at ease!"

  • "We had a good meal at Roy's in NB. Their Butterfish is always good and my husband enjoyed the fish trio plate. The Cesar salads were average. They didn't taste just made fresh, not crisp. Overall we enjoy the food and service, but the decor needs an update. It's rather dull and boring. The half dead plants next to the booths made it seem like an old Chinese restaurant. Time to redo the interior with a newer lively, fun vibe."

  • "We were elated to finally find a restaurant in OC that would take our party of 8 on a Saturday night at prime time (7:30pm). Everywhere else rejected our reservation request for a large party (very frustrating). Thank you Roy's for making us feel so welcome. They printed the birthday boy's name in the front our our menus with birthday wishes. They greeted us promptly, made great suggestions for family style appetizers, and brought a complimentary dessert. The best part was that they took a photo of us, framed it, and gave one to each couple at no extra charge. We never felt rushed, and at the end of the night everyone commented what a fabulous experience they had."

  • "The fish we ordered was very good, but the server ruined the entire meal. She was unpleasant, curt, and had an attitude. When we spoke to the manager, he gave us the usual reply that he would speak with her, but this server was one of his best. If this is true then I can see why there were many empty tables after 8:00 p.m. When we arrived on Saturaday at 7:15 p.m., the restaurant was full; however, there were many empty tables when we left at 8:00."

  • "My boyfriend and I chose Roys in Newport Beach to celebrate our anniversary. They really went out of their way to make sure that this was a memorable and enjoyable night! We had table decorations, personalized inserts inside of our menus, complementary sushi slice and dessert, and not to mention exceptional service! The food was amazing as well! I would definitely recommend this for any special occasion or romantic dinner night out."

  • "We arrived on time for the 8 pm reservation. The front desk was busy - and took them 15 minutes to seat us. Very loud atmosphere - after having been to Roys in Kauai, I was expecting a similar atmosphere - not the loud and over-saturated environment we walked into at the Newport Beach location. Why would a well-established environment like Roys not be staffed to handle a Friday night ? Other than the loud atmosphere, and being understaffed to handle the bustle, the food was great, and our server was very attentive - ergo 3 stars."

  • "I took not boyfriend here for his 27th birthday and the experience we had could not have been better! They made a huge effort to make sure you have everything you need and are so attentive to every question and need you may have. The service was amazing and they had the food to match. A bit on the higher side for prices, but you get what you pay for. The creative spin the chef adds to classic meals makes this place unlike any other. If your looking for a place for a special occasion, this is it."

  • "For as creative as the Roy's franchise is, you'd think they would try a little harder to offer more gluten free, or gluten adaptable recipes...They only offered TWO entrees -- SERIOUSLY?!? Very lazy chef. I ordered the mahi mahi (GF) which was wonderful, but the asparagus served with it was old and woody. Service was below Roy's standard...waitress seemed tired and bored. With the competition from Red-O and Fig & Olive in the Fashion Island area, Roy needs to up its game! As my friends noticed, Roy's felt a bit aged."

Our table had celebratory confettis, the menu was customized with a Happy Birthday wish with my name. And of course, every dish we ordered was delicious, lobster potstickers, butter fish was to die for, and pineapple upside down cake. We would highly recommend Roy's as a restaurant to celebrate your special occassion, or if you just want to treat yourself to great food and great service."

  • "We have been to several Roy's reataurants over he years. Have always admired the inventive cuisine which depending on the kitchen in operation at the time is more or less successful. Always seemed a tough concept to spin into a chain because it takes talent in the kitchen to execute Roy's recipes well. That said, the Newport Beach store has their act together and put out some perfectly executed dishes. Everything was well executed and we enjoyed very bite, especially the shrimp and ahi. The service was friendly and efficient but lacked polish. Feels like they want a Hillstone style of crisp upscale service but are delivering more of a Cheesecake Factory experience. Servers need more polish and training. But the food will bring us back."

I enjoyed the gluten free price fixed menu which consisted of pork belly satay, mahi with lobster sauce and the trio of tropical sorbets. My husband enjoyed the 12oz rib eye with pepercorn sauce, truffle mac and cheese and spicy green beans. Really exceptional, but again it was the service that really sets this restaurant apart from most others."

  • "We have dined at the Roy's in Guam, Maui and now Newport Beach, CA. We always have a wonderful experience. This time we were celebrating my son's upcoming marriage. We had one diner that had a gluten intolerance and they quickly brought out a Gluten Free Menu. Everything was delicious but I would highly recommend the Lobster Mac n cheese if available. At the end of the meal our waitress asked if we wanted her to take a picture, she then took a picture with Roy's camera and a few minutes later brought back a photo in a cute frame. We will always seek out a Roy's when we travel."

  • "Reservations on a weeknight were at 8:00, and the place felt like it was closing up. Sushi was forgettable, but I had a nice salad with shrimp... and that was pretty much the highlight of the evening. Service was badly disorganized, but consistently disinterested. Server seemed to have decided we weren't worth the trouble after we declined to pre-order dessert. Probably just caught them on a bad evening, and I would try again as I enjoy other Roy's."

Started with the Lobster Bisque which was exceptionally delicious. Then came the Osso Buco...tender and served piping hot...just like I like it! Wonderful. Often, restaurants like Roy's treat their diners as if the diners should feel honored to eat at that restaurant. Not at Roy's. The food was great and the service was even better.   • "My title sums it up. Braised Short ribs were fatty and an awful flavor. I have been to 3 different Roys and not impressed. For 170 dollars I can think of Better options. If I did go back it would be for happy hour and the souffle. The pours on the wine were also inconsistent."

  • "We haven't dined at Roy's for a few years due to all the new restaurants that have opened in the area. We were pleased that the food is just as good as it was before. Mahi, steak, tuna tartare and Ono was prepared perfectly. The miso truffle soup/broth was delightful. I would recommend skipping the Caesar salad on the menu. A very wimpy portion served and nothing special about it."

A small group of five, we were seated in a very spacious booth and were well taken care of by one of the best servers (thank you Jeremy). Not only was the service great, the food was just as fantastic. My wife ordered the Butterfish and gave me a bite and it blew me away. Wow! A must-have. I ordered the Prix Fixe menu and it too was fabulous. For only $37 I grabbed gyoza to start, the mahi mahi and beef shortribs for the entree, and cheesecake for dessert. It was great and even better for the wallet :) Will definitely be back. Again, special shout out to our server Jeremy for taking such great care of us."

  • "We had another wonderful dinner at Roy's - Before we dined we enjoyed an exceptional Happy hour at the bar - A Great Hawaiian Martini at the bar ( $6.00!) For Appetizers we had the Lobster Sushi , and Hawaiian ribs ! My wife and I both enjoyed the Tuna , which was prepared rare and perfect ! The wine list was well balanced and a number of good wines by the glass. One disappointments , Roy's no longer serves it's famous Macadamia nut tart , hoping they bring it back soon !"

  • "Have always enjoyed Roy's in Hawaii, and stumbled across this one in Fashion Island when I came in from another entrance. It is not easily seen as it is behind two others. The servings were good, and at a much better price than the ones in the islands. The butter fish was especially good. I had the Thai chicken curry, and the chicken was tender, but not in the curry that I thought it would be in as there was only a spoonful of curry over the rice."

Great ambiance, all decorated for new years with balloons everywhere. Service was fantastic and food was delicious. Haven't been here before, but will definitely go again."
