A word from Roy's - Kaanapali
Welcome to Roy's Ka'anapali! Since opening "the original" Roy's Hawaii Kai in 1988, I have set out to explore "new directions," blending classic European cooking techniques with unique influences of Asia and the Pacific. Guided by the freshest ingredients and my own sense of freedom, the menu is constantly evolving.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Our server was so attentive to be almost fawning, so can't complain here. However I do notch them down for not mentioning that the pineapple upside down cake requires extra time. The main menu cautioned about the soufflé so we ordered early. When we received the dessert menu my first choice was the upside down cake but I was unwilling to wait an additional 20 mins for prep (had to get sleepy children home). So I had to settle for the Macadamia nut tart instead, Where I had to notch this Roy's down is the ambiance, the architecture is boring and sterile rectangle. I don't know maybe the architect was attempting an austere modern look, it is not working. In addition this layout results in a very noisy experience if the restaurant is full."

  • "Although this is a chain the food was excellent and the service was great as well. We started with drinks at the bar and while the first bartender was rather grumpy, the next bartender coming back on shift was fantastic and personable. This Roy's over looks Kaanapali golf course and then the hotels along Kaanapali Beach. Not as pretty as some and better than other Roy's. The butter fish was delicious."

  • "Fulfilled expectations for consistently good food and service. Ambience a bit more casual and noisy than usual as this Roy's is adjacent to golf pro shop and functions in part as a club house."

  • "We visited the Roy's in Chicago and it was always a great experience. The Roy's in Maui is very different and not for the better. We made our reservation on OpenTable two weeks before our trip and we expected it to be a highlight of the trip. We were seated in the back by three tables with 7-8 kids (0-4 y.o.). The restaurant was part of an old golf course club house. I usually only focus on the food in my reviews, but the environment was so terrible it distracted from the really tasty food. Meal = tasty; ambience = terrible. Service was good. Go to one of other great restaurants if you plan to spend this amount of money."

  • "Absolutely a fantastic meal at Roys. Everyone loved their meals. The dragon roll appetizer is amazing. The blackened ahi is the best I've had on the island. My wife and son rave about the chocolate souffle."

  • "This was our fourth Roy's visit - first to Maui. Food was great - but server lacked attention to details. Server should have reminded us about dessert options during meal order - NOT just after delivering the meal. The server had no finesse in providing us the dessert menu appearing to just drop it on the table - surprising my friend. No one returned to refill our wine glasses."

  • "service was a bit slow - had to wait quite awhile to be served"

  • "And it was beautiful, as always. The wait staff was friendly and helpful, the service was great. However, we ordered the seafood combination and the fish was overcooked. We had scallops, opah, and white shrimp. Ironically, the scallops were perfect (hard to do), but the shrimp and whitefish were so over cooked. The manager apologized and took the meal off our bill without issue. Again, they were very friendly, but we were disappointed."

  • "Ate here with two friends from out of town. Never had a bad meal here. Pork pot roast was awesome. The others had fish and they thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks for taking care of our gluten allergic friend."

  • "I was here with my family on Spring break. We chose Roy's because it was right across the street from our condo at Ka'anapali Alii. It is on the golf course, so nice view. Check in was the only thing that wasn't so great. We felt like they could have cared less about us being there. Our server at the table was friendly and efficient. I had the pot roast and it was very tender and flavorful. We will return if we come back to Maui."

  • "We've been to Roy's before and wanted to celebrate an anniversary. Food prices are low in comparasion to other restaurants we dined earlier in the week. Welcome news."

  • "Took quite awhile to be greeted by the server. My pork chop wasn't particularly warm. The red wine by the glass is served at room temperature, not great on Maui. A disappointing meal for sure."

  • "My wife had the butter fish that was outstanding. I had the macadamia nut crusted Majikami which was great. The Chocolate Souffle is a great ending to a great meal."

  • "I recently enjoyed my first ever visit to Roy's and I do mean ENJOYED. It was a great experience and the food was awesome, from the seafood trio to the chocolate soufflé, the food was off the charts! Very good service. A bit energetic and noisy, even at 9pm."

  • "Finding really good food in the area of Kaanapali can be challenging (especially if you only want to walk) so Roy's is a great place to have in the neighborhood. Steaks especially are amazing and the service is comparable to a fine dining establishment on the mainland."

  • "The unique seafood dishes always bring us back to Roy's--and the Molten Lava Chocolate Soufflé! The preparation is always perfect and the flavors delightful. This restaurant never disappoints us and we return every time we come to Maui."

  • "Roy's reputation was not enhanced by our latest visit. The classic trio was bland unless I added their hot sauce which resulted in not tasting the fish. The souffle at the end was wonderful but not enough to make up for the rest. There are many other better places on Maui. We won't be back at Roy's."

  • "My husband and I plus another couple visited Roy's in Lahaina for the first time last week. Three of us ordered the fixed price dinner (appetizer, two entrees, and dessert) without the wine flight, and the food was exceptional. The fourth person ordered the bacon-wrapped fish and loved it. Our waiter was well-informed and attentive, but thankfully, did not hover over us constantly. We had a table next to the window, and the view was pleasant. Also, there was enough space around the table so that we did not feel cramped. The only downside was the level of noise; the restaurant was packed, and at times it was a tad difficult to hear what our dining companions were saying. That said, we will definitely be returning to Roy's again!"

  • "The venue is lovely. We got a nice table overlooking the golf course and hotels. The food was delicious, especially the chocolate soufflé. The bar drinks were also very good, generous and tasty. One of the best Cosmos I've ever had. Dennis the waiter was very friendly, chatty and professional. My only complaint (minor) is that we were given the bill while we were still eating our dessert. I find that tacky, like we're being rushed out the door. The place is quite noisy, but I guess that's hard to avoid unless the room is given better acoustics. Overall, excellent dining experience. It was it second time going to Roy's and we will go back for sure upon our next visit to Maui."

  • "Had an early lunch and enjoyed our dining experience. There was only one server and as the restaurant filled, service sort of lagged. No complaints about the food, not the most gluten free friendly menu but they were able to accommodate my wife. Roy's overlooks the 18th hole of the golf course. The pro shop is in the other half of the building. We will eat at Roy's again."

  • "High quality restaurant which is evident from the time you walk in. Location is nice with a view over the golf course. Service was excellent. Lots of menu choices with seafood and steak. We chose the short ribs and a steak. They were both large servings and had excellent flavor. The MaiTai was one of the best we had in Maui."

  • "Great service and 99% of the food was great. Potatoes au gratin came out cold the first time. Brought a hot dish out. Very bland. Chef should think about some salt or spices. Got to have the pineapple upside down cake."

  • "We have eaten at many different Roy's. In general the food is consistently good. The dish is visually pleasing and the taste enjoyable. Most have a good wine selection also. Our only negative to this particular Roy's is it was very noisy and difficult to converse across the table. It is in a club house with a lot of glass which may amplify the noise level."
