Diner Reviews
  • "Every year on our pilgrimage to Kaanapali we stop in at Roys for a great meal. We have found little difference in the quality of food or service since they moved from Kahana years ago to their new location on the golf course here in Kaanapali. We have always experienced great service that is attentive to every detail and great tasting food. The place gets busy each night so if you are looking for quiet and romantic, it is best to have an early or late dinner. If you love chocolate, never miss the chocolate lava cake. It is over the top. The prices are significantly higher than the mainland, but it's Hawaii. Enjoy."

  • "We have eaten at the Roy's Ko'Olina many times and love it. We took a trip to Maui, so we decided to try the Roy's at Ka'anapali. It was as wonderful as the Roy's we are accustomed to. Service was excellent! Food was even better. We look forward to trying out more Roy's as we come across them."

  • "We had recently visited the Roy's in Vegas, which we loved. The food here was just as delicious, but I thought the service and ambience weren't quite as good. We still enjoyed it though."

  • "Drinks were great. Food and service was outstanding. Our waiter was very knowledgable, and courteous, as was all of the staff."

  • "We were here in Maui with our daughter and her husband who had just spent two weeks relaxing after he returned from his deployment in Afghanistan. They live in Nashville and we live in Seattle so it was the first time we had seen them since he returned and we wanted this to be a very special night and Roys did not disappoint. Our waiter who did not know we were celebrating was informative and friendly the rest of the staff was very attentive. The food was amazing. We each got something different and decided everything was great but decided the Blackened Tuna and the Mejiki were hands down the best."

  • "The food was good but a bit too pricey. Definitely go for the pri fixe menu to get the best experience."

  • "That says it...we can count on Roy's for exactly what we received, great service and food. We also had a view of the gorgeous sunset."

  • "My wife and I had a GREAT dinner date; our experience was OUTSTANDING. Menu items -- to include the wine -- list was stellar. We have dined before at Roy's, in Rancho Mirage, CA; we were not disappointed at the Kaanapali location. We'll certainly visit this location again. We highly recommend!"

  • "always fun to go to roys and the food, service all worth it."

  • "As always with Roy's, you get a great menu with a moderate price. This particular site is not the usual ambience that exists at most Roy's locations. You get the feeling that they converted a Denny's into an upscale restaurant. The place is loud and there is not the fine dining feel of other sites, but if you are taking the whole tribe, and are looking for a good meal and very good service then it is the right place. Definitely not the romantic, or fine dining experience."

  • "They should put a disclaimer on this location of "Roy's" because it is not Roy's! It is a Dirty, dank 80's country club lunch room.... With no view and a limited menu. Food was served on plane white cafeteria plates with no style. Strange. Roy should close this location."

  • "I eat at Roy's every year that I come to Hawaii. I've been coming for the last 18 years. It never gets old!! I love that restaurant and the food."

  • "We had a reservation for 7:30 on a Thursday evening. When we arrived there were three hostesses and one said the wait would be 5-10 minutes. No problem...until we waited and waited and waited. Finally seated after half an hour with no apology or sincere care. No manager on duty. Ashame when the good was delicious and we were repeat customers. Not sure if we will return to this Roy's as they don't know how to properly accept (read decline) walk-in customers when they already have customers with reservations."

  • "Nice place - been to various Roy's. But this time service a bit slow and vegetarian options a bit limited - normally pretty good as they have a custom menu. Limitation was everything was tofu, nice to have would have been an alternative. BTW, mine was nice (Japanese treatment), but my wife's was a huge chunk that ended up being cold inside. Nice cocktails though and lovely setting"

  • "Very disappointed that other locations on the mainland are better than this one. No wonder they closed the kihei location. The food needs to improve or there won't be any locations left in maui."

  • "1st time we've been to the new location on the golf course. You can't quite see the ocean but you can see the sunset and the beautiful golf course views. When making the reservation I noted it was our anniversary dinner and they brought us to a table right next to the window that had been decorated with streamers for our special occasion. Our server made us feel special and helped guide us in our food selections since my husband has nut allergies. We were brought edamame as a starter (on the house) Both the tomato and beet salad were extremely flavorful. I had the Ono special while my husbands choice was the rack of lamb. We both absolutely loved our meals and savored every bite. The wine was superb and the chocolate souffle devine!"

  • "Me and my partner had an 8pm Reservation. When we arrived the host attempt to give us the worst table at the restaurant. WHen we asked for a different table (The restaurant was half empty) the lady that was walking us to our table rolled her eyes and started to give us a major attitude. She was very rude and ruined our experience by treating us like garbage. We debated leaving the place but we didn't know where to go and it was already 8pm. With that being said our waiter was kind and did try to turn things around. We complain to the manager and he said that this particular lady just put in her two weeks notice but did nothing was done to improve our experience. Thanks to this lady and the manager lack of action we will never come back"

  • "My wife and myself dined on a Saturday night and had a wonderful meal from beginning to end. We had a short wait for our table, but the bar was open and the bartender was very helpful in suggesting cocktails and on-tap brews. Roy's signature cocktails are excellent and the bar and restaurant staff was very pleasant, prompt and helpful. The chocolate dessert (get it with the peanut butter filling) was one of the best desserts I've ever had. It was a truly great night spend dining on our honeymoon."

  • "Table given us was on aisle to kitchen. Being we made reservations a month ahead time, had the worst table. Food was good, but not at level we expected."

  • "The food is very fresh, and without question, you MUST order the chocolate souffle. Simply put it was THE best one I've EVER had in my entire life! The chocolate goo just poured out like lava from a volcano. The main course was pretty good too, but after tasting that dessert my mind forgot about the main course."

  • "It was okay. The drinks were really good though however I guess I was expecting something better from the reviews that I read. I came here to celebrate my birthday. Our waitress just seemed more standoffish than anything, she was not overly friendly yet she was not rude either just seemed to have more of a whatever attitude. It may have been a long day for her. The food was good but I am not sure for the price. Over all I would recommend giving it a try and not taking my opinion."

  • "The food at Roy's is excellent. Well executed, well presented, and delicious. The service is beyond reproach, best you will find anywhere. This is not for the thrifty however, plan to spend a good deal for your meal. The food and service is wonderful but it is very expensive. On Maui this was our most expensive meal next to the Feast of Lele. I do recommend Roy's for a special dinner out, especially if your on a special vacation to the Island."

  • "I've been to many Roy's restaurants, and this one comes in at the bottom. The selection was very small, and some of the things (the "soup of the day") were unavailable (our server told us it had been burned, but told another table they just hadn't made it). Our server was just going through the motions and we never felt he really cared whether we were there or not. The food was tasty and good, but not anything I'd go out of the way to eat. I think Roy should perhaps check out this place to find out how they're doing (they're not). I'd suggest you give it a miss."

  • "What a great place! 5 stars all the way! Service was top notch and the food was excellent! They made sure you enjoyed what you ordered and if not immediately ordered what you should have! We loved it!"

  • "I've had the pleasure of eating at 6 different Roy's locations. The Kaanapali location carries on the tradition of freakishly good service the West Maui locations were known for. We often tell friends about a young waiter at Roy's Nicolina 12 years ago who carried my 22 month old son for 45 minutes, so my wife and I could fully enjoy our meals. We had an early reservation and the place wasn't busy. When my son returned, he was the proud owner of a die cast '32 Ford with surfboard on top. Now that is great service! That same strong emphasis on service is evident at Kaanapali, but the star of the show at Roy's is always the innovative preparation of fresh fish and of course, the chocolate soufflé. They've managed to raise those bars too!"

  • "The fish lovers had great fish and I even ate some of the calamari with Thai peanut sauce. The pinapple upside down cake was a delicious finish for the 3 of us to share. The mojitos were great as was the wine. The service was attentive and gracious. We had dinner with a teen on our group and we all had a wonderful evening."

  • "Roy's is pretty reliable. This Roy's is set on a golf course with a gold course view. It is a little upscale but casual too. You have lots of choices in Maui - this may be not be at the top of my list but is reliable for a tasty, easy going meal."

  • "We had a table near the window as nightfall came on the horizon, which added to a nice ambiance. The meal was plentiful and delicious. The wine selection was of good variety and perfect for our table needs. Everyone on staff was courteous and helpful, attentive to the table at the right times. I highly recommend this for a great dinning experience."

  • "For me, Roy's is the reason to come to Maui. The food is innovative, well prepared and presented to a choir of "ohhhs." Having the Classic Trio of fish, I was enthralled with the tenderness and the tastes---Primo. Our anniversary will always be remembered for the attentiveness of the wait staff and the ending signature Chocolate Soufflé. A perfect dining experience for Maui or anywhere on the planet! Roy's has been a long-time favorite and the newer Kaanapali location is a sensational restaurant. A must when in Maui."

  • "The drunks at the bar were so loud it ruined the entire dining experience nod it was just 5:30 pm. The tables face the golf course and setting sun but with a heavy sun shade down you couldn't see anything and it felt like you had a table facing a blank, dark wall. The food, when it came was fine but our waiter was so in attentive, or rather so engaged talking to w girl several tables down, that he barely got back by our table until after our main courses were served only to ask if we wanted to order the soufflé that the menu said took over 30 minutes to prepare and should be ordered BEFORE your entrees arrive. We declined and were delighted to finish our meal and leave. We've eaten at other Roy's but would never come back to this one."
