Diner Reviews
  • "Everything was great until I pulled a hair out of my mouth from the calamari appetizer I had been eating and the server was at our table just in time to see me do it. While there were apologies all around, the only thing they did was remove the cost of the appetizer from our bill. I would have thought that an upscale restaurant like Roy's would have done something more. And, while I understand that these things happen despite the hair nets worn in the kitchen, it does not make me want to go back any time soon."

  • "Anything that was requested by my elderly and eccentric mother-in-law was fulfilled with respect and kindness. The next day she was still talking about the treatment she received. Our party had either the butterfish or the salmon. Everyone enjoyed their meal immensely and every plate was clean except for the bok choy cores. A really enjoyable dinner."

  • "This is the best restaurant I have been to in a long time. I eat out quite a bit and love trying new foods. Roy's had awesome food, our waiter Justin was phenomenal and very knowledgable. I had one of the chefs specials. Every single bite was mouth watering. We will definitely be coming back."

  • "Our first two visits to Roys were years ago in the state of Hawaii. The food here is as good and ambience much better. Service this trip was certainly excellent."

  • "We liked going to Roy's where we found a creative and spicy menu that illustrated many interesting choices. While i was not expecting heat in any of the dishes I ordered, it still showed up like Serendipity: the fortunate finding of something unknown before. The service was excellent and our server (Kyle) worked with our small special requests to leave things out (like onions). I am looking forward to returning to Roy's to try more of the menu."

  • "I was really looking forward to ordering Roy's Trio. I had it before and it was Delicious! This time, it was overcooked and tasted nothing like the last time:( The other 3 people enjoyed their dinners but did not rave. Nothing special. Given the pricing, the food needs to be special. We also ordered Roy's Lava Cake for dessert. What happened to it? It is much smaller than it used to be! It IS tasty but too small. Again, a disappointment. The waitress graciously removed the charge for my dinner and the other couple had a $25. Off coupon. The cost per couple was about $110. That is a lot to pay for food that is just good:( The chairs in the back dining room (which is quieter than the main dining room) are very uncomfortable."

  • "Enjoyed our date night at Roy's. Very nice place with good food. Great service! I liked that it feels intimate but there is alot going on."

  • "From the moment we walked in, we were catered to. The calamari, samosas, and pork spare ribs were delicious."

  • "We treated our parents to dinner on Fathers Day and they enjoyed it immensely. Everything was delicious, especially my husbands andouille encrusted fish dish--I have NEVER tried okra that tasted that good! The fried rice and mac & cheese sides were a bit of a disappointment but nonetheless good. The pineapple upside down cake for dessert was a winner, as always. My only irritation was the server's immediate push to what was far and away the most expensive wine on the list in the category we were interested in and I knew it would be before I even opened the list to look and it was suggested before really spending any time questioning us about what we like, drink, etc. Came off as very "trained"."

  • "Celebrated my wife's 70th birthday with dinner at Roy's. What a lovely and tasty experience! The martini's were perfect and set the stage for a super meal. She had sea scallops and I enjoyed the "butterfish" (an in house special). We will go back to Roy's."

  • "First rate restaurant. Not knowing the area, we made a reservation at Roy's and it was wonderful. great service, attentive but not intrusive. Terrific menu. Everything was first class."

  • "despite being in a non-descript strip mall. this is one of THE nicest finds in the Jacksonville area; Service from front door on is excellent, staff knowledgeable; food outstanding!"

  • "Everything was great about Roy's - food ( appetizers, entrees, desert,,etc) and service; except the price. This is listed on Opentable at $$ when it should be 3 or maybe 4 ( like Capital Grill), so we incurred sticker shock ( $12 appetizers, several entrees priced over $30, wine by the glass is on the high side also). I would recommend the restaurant but check the menu online before going. These prices are on the side for Jax and Jax Beach fine dining restaurants. And Opentable should change it to at least 3 $$$."

  • "Made a special night even more special. Special menu to congratulate my son and friend graduation, over the top service, appetizer were terrific( ordered a bunch of different ones for tables) entrees were also good the only complaint was hanger steak a little tough. Services was top notch and attention to detail was spot on. It's in my top 5 restaurants for Jacksonville."

  • "This was my fiance and I's first time dining at Roy's. Everything on the menu sounded amazing! With a little help from our very informative waiter about his favorites, we were able to finally make our choices! The restaurant is a little dark which was a little hard to look over the menu, but our overall experience here with the taste of our food, to the atmosphere, to our waiter, it was amazing! Definitely recommended and can't wait to go back! "

  • "Food was excellent. Love that fact that the Roy's franchise has added a local flair to their menu. It's nice to know that you can have the consistent choices at each Roy's location but then also have something of a local flavor if you want something different."

  • "We chose Roy's due to the varied brunch items made available for Mother's Day; the food, however, did not live up to the expectations of what we have received at Roy's in the past. The appetizer and entre items were just average."

  • "Our most recent visit to Roy's was to share an intimate dinner with a close friend on leave from Afghanistan. I requested that we I requested that we be seated in the Wine Room. a quiet, private function room in the back of the main dining area. I was informed that that it is usually closed weeknights. I explained the nature of our visit and was told they would see what they could do. When we arrived the hostess explained that they had opened the Wine Room just for us. That proved to just be the beginning of a wonderful evening. As usual, the food, beverages and service were superb. This was just the latest in a long and memorable list of great dining experiences at Roy's."

  • "We had not been to Roy's in a while, and previously only for dinner. Our prior experiences were good, and food (especially fish) was always excellent. The prices have always been high, but felt to be worth it. We went this time to splurge on Easter brunch, expecting the same. It included a tiny appetizer and a very small entrée, both just ok. This was $34. Any beverage such as coffee and juice was additional; a single mimosa was $9. Dessert was also a hefty additonal cost. Although the service was excellent, we did not feel the limited food experience justified such a high price. We do not plan to go back for brunch again."

  • "The chef special dishes are worth trying especially the flounder with bleu cheese grits and fried whole okra. The service is excellent! Our server Corey was very attentive, knowledgeable regarding the menu among other things and has been at Roy's for sometime. The dining experience is worth the price."

  • "The staff at Roy's treat you like family, probably better than family. Like to pick and choose what is on your plate? Not a problem, and we often make up our own entree, using the restaurant's menu as our guide, when we feel the need to venture (but the menu selections as printed are fabulous!). My husband has a shellfish allergy, and the sushi chef Brian will always make a great version of a featured sushi roll, but sans shellfish, for him. Hands down the best sushi in town, but the overall good and service experience is what makes Roy's our hometown favorite place to go."

  • "Booked a reservation. Immediately seated upon arrival and then NOTHING. 40 minutes later not one person had even spoken to us. We got up and left. It was prom weekend, there were several large tables seating 12 or more, but there were 6 or 7 tables that were empty. The noise level was unbelievably loud, even though we were seated in a back room. Unable to have much conversation with the person seated across the table from me. We did speak to the manager upon leaving and informed him that we had never even been approached. He offered to comp meals and make amends, but we were not from the area and a gift certificate was not applicable. Very disappointing evening."

  • "Roy's is one of my favorite restaurants. Even if you don't like sushi, the lobster rolls will knock you off of your feet. The fish is extremely fresh and they fuse alot of different flavors together to create something special for your palate. The service was very good, but it was lacking a little something when compared to other locations I have visited. They didn't go above and beyond like the Roy's in Las Vegas, some of the other FL locations or the one we used to have in Atlanta. I think this is just sort of a neighborhood restaurant in Jacksonville Beach so they may treat customers a little differently. I would still recommend it and I would definitely go back when I back in Jacksonville again."

  • "The food has always been good here. This time what was memorable was the service. Our waiter (with the great beard) is the type of waiter that is pleasant and personable but also knows the food on the menu so well that he doesn't have to try to recite the words, it just comes out as normal conversation. Good wine list, The cobia special was flavorful but not overbearing. The NY strip was cooked correctly and quite delicious (I usually prefer a rib-eye). My wife's vegetarian dish was awesome...sometimes a rarity at these type of places. Next time we go, I will ask for the same waiter...I just need to remember his name!"

  • "The food is always fantastic but this week things were slow from when we first sat down. The service was slow as well as getting food was very slow. This has never happened to us before. Tables sat 30 minutes after us were paying their check before we saw our entrees. We don't care for having to site in the back room. It's cramped and feels like you are in "a back room" and not part of the restaurant. I'd rather sit at the bar and eat. The bar service is always impeccable. Our food was delicious as always just incredibly slow."
