Diner Reviews
  • "We made reservations at Roy's for our 7th wedding anniverary. From the moment we walked in the door we were treated like royalty. The service was top notch, the food was incredible, and the atmosphere was perfect."

  • "Booked a reservation. Immediately seated upon arrival and then NOTHING. 40 minutes later not one person had even spoken to us. We got up and left. It was prom weekend, there were several large tables seating 12 or more, but there were 6 or 7 tables that were empty. The noise level was unbelievably loud, even though we were seated in a back room. Unable to have much conversation with the person seated across the table from me. We did speak to the manager upon leaving and informed him that we had never even been approached. He offered to comp meals and make amends, but we were not from the area and a gift certificate was not applicable. Very disappointing evening."

  • "I love this chain. I always make an effort to visit this location when in town. The food is awesome and great service. I will definitely be back."

  • "Roy's is one of my favorite restaurants. Even if you don't like sushi, the lobster rolls will knock you off of your feet. The fish is extremely fresh and they fuse alot of different flavors together to create something special for your palate. The service was very good, but it was lacking a little something when compared to other locations I have visited. They didn't go above and beyond like the Roy's in Las Vegas, some of the other FL locations or the one we used to have in Atlanta. I think this is just sort of a neighborhood restaurant in Jacksonville Beach so they may treat customers a little differently. I would still recommend it and I would definitely go back when I back in Jacksonville again."

  • "Though not a typical sushi restaurant the choices were enough ... And our server helped guide me. Excellent."

  • "The food has always been good here. This time what was memorable was the service. Our waiter (with the great beard) is the type of waiter that is pleasant and personable but also knows the food on the menu so well that he doesn't have to try to recite the words, it just comes out as normal conversation. Good wine list, The cobia special was flavorful but not overbearing. The NY strip was cooked correctly and quite delicious (I usually prefer a rib-eye). My wife's vegetarian dish was awesome...sometimes a rarity at these type of places. Next time we go, I will ask for the same waiter...I just need to remember his name!"

  • "Met a blind date there. Service was great. Menu selections made it easy to please any taste. We sat and talked for an extended time after the meal and never felt rushed. Very good experience."

  • "The food is always fantastic but this week things were slow from when we first sat down. The service was slow as well as getting food was very slow. This has never happened to us before. Tables sat 30 minutes after us were paying their check before we saw our entrees. We don't care for having to site in the back room. It's cramped and feels like you are in "a back room" and not part of the restaurant. I'd rather sit at the bar and eat. The bar service is always impeccable. Our food was delicious as always just incredibly slow."

  • "My wife and I celebrated our 29th anniversary at Roys. They went out of their way to make the evening the special for us from the custom menu all the way through to the dessert. We had the lobster potstickers for appetizer and it was delicious, my wife had the Spicy Hot Pot and I the 14oz New York Strip, again both delicious. For dessert we had the chocolate souffle which was a great ending. The staff and management were wonderful and did everything possible to give us a memorable evening."

  • "Upscale in all respects, excellent seafood dishes with a Hawaiian flair. Open area to kitchen which makes for a vibrant noise level pretty much throughout the dining room. Great service, knowledgeable wait staff and all dishes in our party were delightful."

  • "We usually love Roys and have been there on many occasions. However, on a special event night, evidentally they try to squeeze as many tables into the restaurant as they can, leaving little room to walk and much less a big enough table for two to set your drink and plate. The prices were also raised for this evening (Valentine's Day). The hostess looked and acted to be about 13 and was not very helpful. We asked for a larger table since my husband is 6'5" and they had us at a table about the size of a school desk. When they took us to the 2nd table, it was the same size! I politely said that we asked for a larger table, not different location. The hostess then said that's all we have and just glared at me. Very rude and unprofessional."

  • "For the many times I have eaten at Roy's I have not once been disappointed. From the team that greets you at the host stand to the servers knowledge of the menu, and always seeing a manager on the floor just incase you need them you cannot go wrong. I haven't even mentioned the food. Not once have we had an issue with our food. The food is so good that I think even if service wasn't great I would still go back for the food. Not a bad thing can be said about this restaurant."

  • "I took some relatives to Roy's for dinner on a Friday night. I made reservations through Open Table. Even though Open Table was not showing availability, I called the restaurant, and they graciously accommodated us. Dining with 3 octogenarians can be a challenge, but serving them requires the patience of a saint. And our waiter was just that - a saint. Between dietary restrictions, requests to split entrees, and having to check a hat (who wears hats anymore?), the service was excellent. I can highly recommend the black cod with bok choy. The manager was kind enough to give a complimentary glass of sherry. The server even brought the hat back to the table so that we wouldn't forget it. It's nice to see service is not a lost art."

  • "Roy's consistently provides high quality and creativity. Crispy Thai style calamari is my new go-to appetizer - perfectly balanced with sweet, sour, spicy, tangy - it raises the bar. Wagyu beef gyoza were devoured. Pork tenderloin was succulent, but was outshone by its companions- sweet potato gnocchi and Brussels sprouts. Short ribs - always amazing. Mani mahi was flawless and fresh. Service was warm and professional. We lacked for nothing."

  • "The food and service are exceptional. Unlike other Roy's-the chef here also has a signature page of dishes he has created. The wilted spinach and arugala salad bursted with flavor. The Ahi Poke tantalized my taste buds. the star of the show was the short rib bi bim bap. the fried egg added unctuousness! highly recommend it!"

  • "It had been awhile since dining at Roy's. As such, my wife and I decided to go there for a change of pace. Unfortunately, our meals were average at best. She ordered a snapper dish that left her questioning as to the authenticity of the fish. I had a wahoo that was not especially pleasing. While our server was pleasant and the atmosphere lively, the meals did not live up to our expectations. We left quite disappointed and probably will be a very long time before returning."

  • "Roy's in Jacksonville Beach is a wonderful experience. The staff is exceptional and the creativity of the food is amazing. You will enjoy everything about Roy's. I have gone to other Roy's restaurants around the country, but the Jacksonville Beach location is the best! If you are a Foodie you will enjoy the experience."

  • "Service was mediocre and food was less than spectacular for spending $250 for a party of 4. How do you burn pineapple upside down cake? Why do you have to "request" infused pineapple with your Hawaian martini? Just seems like Roy's is making the turn from high quality, high margin to lower quality higher margin by cutting corners and making decisions that changes everything that made them special to begin with. Not sure I'm ever going back. Last year they screwed up Valentines weekend by not offering the corporate email menu that went out to customers and now they served a mediocreChristmas Eve dinner. if I'm going to give my money away, I'd like to leave with a better sense of value and appreciation than I did after this meal."

  • "Great service and an excellent dinner. One of the best restaurants in Jacksonville. Only complaint was being sat next to the bar at a very small table when the restaurant was almost empty. Should have asked to be moved. Its becoming very hard to have a nice quiet dinner these days. The meal, though, was terrific!"

  • "I tried the Andouille crusted snapper with whole fried okra and blue cheese grits. FABULOUS! I had different cheese grits before but never blue cheese. My wife got the tuna and that was another exceptional meal. The wait staff are very friendly and professional as is the manager. Our favorite place to dine."

All the people were very friendly and attentive. They have a wide selection of food choices so it took us some time to finally decide our choices for dinner."

  • "My first reaction when entering the restaurant was the staggering noise level, and the restaurant was not yet full! Once seated, I noticed that the decor is showing it's age, one part of the lamp that was in the back dining room had a hole in the globe? What? The room just had a dingy, aging look to it. The food was all good, but portion sizes were puzzling. A nice piece of Andouille Crusted Snapper, on top of about 3 tablespoons of blue cheese grits? Skimping on grits? One of the cheapest starches around? The side of broccoli and blistered cherry tomatoes was very good."
