At Roy’s Hawaiian Fusion Cuisine, our menu features the finest seafood with a focus on delicacies from the oceans around Hawaii. Each creation is a fusion of flavors found in our freshest local ingredients with European sauces and bold Asian spices and served with the spirit of Aloha, creating a dining experience that leaves you feeling like you’ve found paradise. The Desert Ridge restaurant is located inside the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa. We feature lanai seating surrounded by tiki torches overlooking the gardens and water features of the JW Marriott, and a spacious dining room. In the kitchen, Chef Mako Segawa brings his imagination and artistry to the plate every night. Chef Mako is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and has worked beside Chef Roy since 1992.   • "We come here about 4-5 times a year. The food is consistently good as are the drinks. The serice is also generally very good. Perhaps most important is how they really cater to young kids: kid menu, kid cups, kid appetizer and desert were on the house!! We will be back. And we really like that the menu changes occasionally now to add variety for regulars."

  • "Great happy hour (Aloha Hour). Order 3 appetizers and call it dinner. Or, have dinner, which is terrific. I had the braised short ribs with mashed potatoes and a rich gravy. My wife had the butterfish. Hard to say which was better. The new dessert, a light carrot cake, was really special."

Portions were a good size but not overly generous. I would recommend trying a couple of different appetizers and splitting the desserts as well.   • "Roy's is one of my favorite restaurants and I try to eat here anytime I am in a city that has a location. This visit did not disappoint - the food and service were excellent as always. My only small critique would be that they have removed the chocolate souffle from the Prix-Fixe menu as a standard desert option (you can still get it for an up-charge). Not a big deal, but I actually did not get the Prix-Fixe for that reason and just ordered what I wanted seperately (maybe their intention?). As I said, not a big deal and will certainly continue to visit Roy's every chance I get."

  • "After a great experience at Roys Chandler, we opted to take a family friend who was staying on the north side of town out to the Roys in Desert Ridge. We arrived early & went to see if we could be sat early for the dinner, but after 10 min standing at the hostess desk, nobody had checked to see what we needed. Our waitress was one of the most inattentive & slow I've ever had. Drinks took over 20 min, food took even longer. My filet was so well done it was almost a gray brown inside (ordered med). I sent it back & it took her well over 20 min to replace my order - by then everyone else had finished. We had to chase her down for everything and with a 5:30 seating, we didn't leave until almost 8:00 pm. I do not recommend this location."

Maybe we were there on an off night but we had to ask for refills on our drinks and the staff was not very attentive like you would expect at a place like this. The food was a bit dry tonight so nothing special to rave about. Again, maybe it was an off night but wasn't impressed and not worth it at those prices. I eat at plenty of nice places weekly so I know how the service and food should be but just didn't come together on this visit."

  • "Decided to go back to Roy's for our anniversary after a great time last year. I have to give them kudos for the awesome service. They put a ribbon on your table and everyone that came by wished a happy anniversary--very sweet. Someone even researched that my husband drank O'Doul's--impressive. Hubby also raved over the short ribs, but I was a little disappointed with my fish dish, it seemed a bit overcooked. We got some yummy chocolate treat for dessert. Overall, a wonderful evening!"

  • "Have been to Roys several times around the country; increased pacing is making us feel like we were part of a machine, not a dining experience. Food quite good, service razor prompt, we felt incredibly rushed in the eagerness to turn the table ( major golf weekend in Phoenix, so demand was high). We were seated at 7:20 and out the door at 8:40, with our table already being stripped just as we turned the corner after getting up. I believe in efficiency, but wow, this was too much. Pushing us to order drinks, wine, dinner, politely saying "are we ready yet" just a few more times than necessary. It reminds us that the most leisurely and elegant open table is our own, for a whole lot less money."

  • "Took a friend for her birthday dinner. We ordered the kale salad - delicious. She ordered swordfish. I don't even like swordfish and this was divine. Would totally order it here. I ordered shortribs - they were just ok. About half way through, they got a bit chewy. I mentioned it to our server who asked what he could do. I knew we were having desert (and the portions are large), so I said he needn't do anything - just letting him know so the chef could be aware. A little later, the manager came by and asked about it. Without hesitation, he said, "Obviously I'll be taking care of that. What else can I do?" We didn't need anything else. Desert was Lava Cake - delectable! Brought a complimentary dessert for my friend's birthday. I'll be back!"

  • "We had an excellent table and an excellent waiter. The pineapple martinis were delicious and different. Two of our 3 entrees were perfect, bu the macadamia crusted mahimahi was overcooked and dry and had to be sent back. The re-cooked one was excellent too, but took way too long. The two other diners were 90% finished their meals when the re-cook ed mahimahi arrived, taking away from what otherwise would have been an outstanding evening."

  • "We, family of 8, chose Roy's to celebrate my daughter's 14th birthday. The entire experience was exceptional. The Coconut Shrimp and the Lobster Wontons were amazing. Every entrée was tasty (Salmon, pork loin, steak..) and the chocolate soufflé topped off the meal. We will return."

  • "From entering to leaving, the service at Roy's was fabulous. It's located in the Marriott Desert Ridge, so you expect some level of service, but from dropping my car at the valet to picking it back up, everyone was extremely friendly. The appetizers were very good - my 13 year old LOVED the coconut shrimp - and the main courses were very good as well. My one issue is the main course wasn't as hot, temperature-wise, as I'd like. For whatever reason I seem to have this issue with most of the Bloomin' Brands restaurants - the food just doesn't seem like it's the correct temperature. Nevertheless, I'd recommend it highly as I'm sure my issue is strictly personal preference."

  • "Restaurant is located in a Marriott Resort. While there were more open tables upon arrival for some reason we got the one near a table with three children. Had I realized it sooner I would have requested to be moved due to the noise. The open kitchen was on the other side of us which made the setting noisier. In addition, the server staff liked to congregate at the kitchen and chat when not serviing their tables."

  • "We have been going to Roys for years. The food is very interesting and tasty. However there's very little on the plate! We first ordered the Caesar salad. The presentation was poor. It was good, however not large enough. It doesn't cost much to add more romaine. Next the main course. My husband had rice, not enough. The plate was large and there was a nice piece of fish with little else. I had fish, no rice, extra vegetables. There were no extra anything. And what's with the edamame. Americans want bread! For the price we paid, we felt it was not worth it."

I'm pleased to report that Desert Ridge compares well to the best in the chain. Expertly prepared dishes attractively presented and expertly served. And oh, so many friendly people. Mahalo Roy's.
